You may have fallen victim to the latest Skype update which has unfortunately been able to make the software even worse than before. This guide will help you restoring the old version and block Skype from ever updating again.

The Guide

1. Uninstall the current version of Skype from the Program and Features list accessed via the control panel.

2. Open notepad as an administrator and open your hosts file located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Add the following to the end of the file and save it: 127.0.0.1                   download.skype.com

4. Press Windows Key + R and Type: %temp%

5. Check the temp folder for a pre-existing SkypeSetup.exe and Skype directory, if either exist delete them both.

6. Download this older version of Skype and install it (http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.21.0.104.msi) If the link is dead use: SkypeSetup_6.21.0.104

7. Press Windows Key + R and Type: services.msc

8. In the services list look for a service called “Skype Updater”, right click it and open properties.

9. Set the service to disabled.

10. You’re done.
