Bloggers group to hold SoCCSKSarGen BlogFest 2010

The SoCCSKSarGen Bloggers will hold the BlogFest SoCCSKSarGen 2010 on 11 December at the Grand Royale Ballroom of the East Asia Royale Hotel, General Santos City. It is put as the largest gathering of bloggers in the region.

More popularly known as the Sox Bloggers, the group is composed of more than 200 bloggers and new media enthusiasts who have bonded together for the common advocacy of projecting South Central Mindanao in a more positive light through their blogs. For the past three years, their blogs have increasingly influenced other people’s perceptions about the region and have won in different blog award bodies such as the Philippine Blog Awards and Digital Filipino’s Emerging Influential Blogs Search.

BlogFest SoCCSKSarGen 2010, aimed at enhancing the blogging capabilities of its members and increasing their passion for its advocacy, will feature several web luminaries who will give talks on different topics. Invited speakers are: UP Prof. Danilo Arao (Journalism Ethics for Bloggers), Google Inc. Philippine consultant Aileen Apolo (Making the most of the Internet and Google), Zamboanga blogger and IT consultant Ryan Elumba (Spicing Up Blogs With Animation and Video), Head for New Media for the Office of the President Jay Jaboneta (The Role of New Media in Nation-building), Avatar Media and Davao blogger Maria Jose (State of the Philippine Blogosphere), Web Developer and ENoa Corp. Online Marketing strategist Dale Palileo (SEO and Traffic Generation and Monetizing your Blog), Tactical Technology Collective member Bobby Soriano (Internet Security for Bloggers), REACH Networks Country Account Manager and Travel agency operator Michelle Solon (Exposing Local Gems on New Media), and E-commerce consultant/trainor and author Janette Toral (New Media and its Role in Businesses).

Sox Bloggers’ lead convenor, Avel Manansala, is expecting bloggers from Mindanao to attend the BlogFest, although some bloggers from the Visayas and Luzon have also registered for said event.

Robinsons Movieworld delivers 3D excitement

Remember your first experience with the wonders of 3D cinema? You know, back when the 3D glasses you had to put on to enjoy the then-nascent technology had a lens in a different color from the other, and were ridiculously huge and made of cardboard? It was anything but wondrous, and that would be putting it mildly because so crude was the technology then that not a few people emerged from the 3D cinema experience nauseous, even physically ill.

Fast-forward to 2010 and 3D experience in movie theaters everywhere is anything unlike before it. Gone are the hugely funny-looking and extremely uncomfortable cardboard glasses, and in its place is specialized eyewear that sits well on your face and even looks cool enough to wear outdoors. It was May 21st, Sunday at around 5 o'clock in the afternoon when people of the locale, community leaders, media, students and volunteers gathered to extend their support and sympathy to people living with HIV and suffering because of AIDS.

Doctors and some academics were invited to attend, but only a few came. Still, it was a tremendous success and the most nostalgic, yet dramatic candlelight that ever took place in the locale. It was the first time to happen, actually.

The program started at around 5:30 p.m. at the city's freedom park along the downtown area. We opened it up with a smashing HIV/AIDS Ads Screenings and followed with a film showing the youth of today's generation sponsored by DKT International, makers of frenzy & trust condoms. At around 6 p.m. sharp, we started to gather all the folks at the freedom park and distributed the candles to those who were present and willing to participate. The crowd reached an estimated volume of 500.

We had printed t-shirts for the staff, invited guests and local officials, and to the participating youth organizations and NGOs. We distributed condoms to the youth, and the students especially, and were able to create a dramtic and nostalgic effect on the highlight of the event -- the candlelight.

The candlelight started with a prayer by a young girl who drew a remarkable response from the audience; people were so quiet and so sympathetic to the mood and tone of the candle lighting; the second prayer was delivered by the Salvation Army who honored the victims and those people who keep on fighting against the global pandemic.

The mother candle was first lit by the young girl, followed by the representative of the Salvation Army, then to the staff and crew, community leaders, officials, and guests, then to the crowd forming a ribbon to represent hope and life for the humanity struggling with this global pandemic.

After the candle lighting, we changed the mood. We put life into the event letting our band entertain the crowd. And then we showed a film on what is AIDS and what is responsible. We talked about the true scenerio of the Philippines and the global pandemic, and the "Do's" and "Don'ts" on responsible sexuality. Students were so attentive and cooperative.

We had games in between, and let our leaders speak up and deliver their messages to the public. We gave out leaflets and brochures to enhance the information dissemination. We let some students share their experiences through our skilled staff in terms of their sexual agonies, and everything that affects their healthy lifestyle and sexuality.

We ended up the Candlelight with so much hope in our hearts and the feeling of success that money can't buy, and we will continue to do this no matter how tiring, despite how discrimination and financial constraints affected us. Still, I believe that by continuous prayers and non-stop effort to help other folks, especially the corporate sector, will support us in this campaign. Stop Aids! as we are lighting the path for the next generation.

That's my story! I hope that others will not stop in their campaign. It was hard to start, but just go on. There is help along the way. Continue to strive! Continue to help other people! After all, if we stop this, who will do it?!

IT WAS PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGE that the boxing champ Manny Pacquiao had already move his residence from General Santos City to Kiamba Municipality. This way forward is amid the 2010 election plan of the People’s Champ Miscellaneous (PCM) to campaign for Pacquiao in the congressional race for Sarangani district. The mayor of Malungon municipality, Reynaldo Constantino who act as Pacquiao spokesman had already announced the possibility of forming a new political coalition in Sarangani province.

I went to Lagao at J. Catolico Avenue corner Geronimo Street with a clear intention in mind: to participate the plurk fiesta eyeball and to see not just the color of Orange Bistro, but the food in the plate they usually serve to their customer - like the Vegetarian flavored with Special Orange Ice Tea.

It would have been the plurk fiesta snack that never was, with too much sample foodstuff being served to us. The snack was twisted into a great meal sponsored by Orange Bistro with much colorful and elegant presentation.

Tinagtag is made of finely ground rice mixed with sugar, then fried into crisp rice rolls. Tinagtag, is an indigenous delicacy for generations and best known among the Maguindanaons Pakaradyan (feast) which may come as a wedding celebration, Tanda (baptismal rites), Salangguni (pamanhikan), Qadtamat (Koran reading), among others. For the non-Maguindanaon, Pakaradyan is equivalent to any Filipino fiesta celebration and banquets.
