She owed banks the staggering loan they gave her for it of course, but in the 20 years she had it and lived in it, she gratefully saw its value rise; at first, the escalation was glacial enough, but soon, property prices in the whole area began to really take off untilher house was worth $300,000. The ride lasted until 2008 saw the housing market collapse the whole country over; suddenly, on a house that was once worth more than a quarter-million she actually owed a half-million. Right away, the bank that held her loan, had her over in court, for eviction purposes. But there was something rather remarkable going on here. Here they were with nothing in hand and being sued; they should have had no cards to play. But still, upon foreclosure help began to arrive in the form of considerable power and leverage in negotiating how things went.

In the end, she got an all-new mortgage company that valued her house for what it should have been worth on the market; but her monthly payments were negotiated down to a third of what she used to have. What happened was, a not-for-profit lending concern cut the bank that originally had held her mortgage, out of the equation, by buying the debt from them outright; they then sold it back to April at a 25% margin, so that they could have some kind of a safety margin to help deal with any situation in the future where they might default again. If they had been left to their own devices dealing with the bank, they would just have been out on the street with nothing to show for their ownership. Now, they have their dignity back. How does this kind of foreclosure help happen? Actually, according to reports in the New York Times, it all started with the ideas of a bunch of law professors at Harvard, an NGO called Vida Urbana and Boston Community Capital.

What started as an experiment there, apparently a very successful experiment, is now set to be copied everywhere - the idea being that the lender goes in to help the distressed family after the foreclosure sets in, and not before. If you think about it, the banks were the ones who really fueled all this distress. Even as the world around them was coming crashing down, the banks showed no willingness to go with the times. They always insisted that they didn't care what the house's value had fallen to. If you owed them three times what your house was suddenly worth, that's what you paid. The trick has been to put a good scare into them, by actually going along with the whole foreclosure business. This actually throws a scare into them that they finally have nothing - they are owed a great deal, and they are holding a property that is worthless. That's when they come to their senses. That's why foreclosure help is best offered after foreclosure proceedings. It is a wonder the banks don't realize that if there are a lot of evictions because of loan delinquencies in a neighborhood they have been lending for homes in, the banks shoot themselves in the foot by plowing on with their eviction policies. The more they foreclose the homes in that area, the more they fall in value, and the more they'll find families defaulting. Ah, how the power of money leads everyone astray.

If you don't include drama, the short story, and the

If you don't include drama, the short story, and the novel among the fine arts, then there are no fine arts

In western culture, fine art has consistently referred to the art of architecture, sculpture, music, and, in some views, poetry too. Some definitions include drama, and literature (such as the short story or the novel) as members of the fine arts, but others demand that these have no rightful place among the fine arts. They may be included among the humanities, but certainly not among the fine arts. Is this correct?

If we just consider those arts that all can agree are fine art, we will see that each of them, perhaps with the exception of architecture, is produced to express feelings. We can clearly see in ancient Greek sculptures, for instance, the feelings these golden people had for the human body, for its measured, objective beauty. Feelings are certainly explicit in works of poetry, which, like sculpture, interweave both feelings and images to express the attitude of the artist, and ultimately, the culture of the artist, towards his or her world and all that is found in it. Music, most can agree, is fundamentally about feelings, but less about image as we find them in sculpture and poetry. This deficiency in the fine art of music in fact allows us to more precisely define the fine arts as something which is used to express feelings, and allows us to drop the notion that the fine arts must intermix feelings with images.

Now that the fine arts are confined to the expression of feelings, the fine art of architecture can be re-admitted to the fine arts. Unlike all the other arts, architecture is polluted with a purpose other than that of expression. It has, of its essence, a practical utility and that utility is necessary if it is to be considered architecture at all. No less can be said of a Grecian vase, which has a purpose, and yet stands as well, in its shape and delicacy, as an expression of human feeling. Considered without purpose, the vase becomes a sculpture. The same can be said of architecture. Considered apart from its purpose, the building can be appreciated for what it expresses of the human spirit. To the degree that a building does express anything, to that degree we may consider it a production of fine art. It is undeniable that there are emotive differences evoked by a Greek or Roman temple and a Gothic cathedral, between a modern skyscraper and a Renaissance palace. Being image shaped by feeling, as poetry and sculpture, architecture does indeed have a place among the fine arts.

Now, returning to the place of drama and literature, the short story and the novel, in the fine arts, if we apply the essential agreement we have found among all the other fine arts to these activities and products, we must conclude that drama, the short story, and the novel do indeed satisfy the requirement that the fine arts express feeling. Drama, even the cinema, combines image, sound, and feeling to ultimately express a spirit's feelings about its subject. The short story and the novel, non-poetic, but prose, nevertheless does the same. Nor can we say that measure, proportion, balance, objective, mathematical or geometrical distinctions exist between the short story, for instance, and poetry, such that the short story lacks what poetry, music, architecture and sculpture all contain. There are certainly these requirements in any short story or novel composition.

The short story, the drama the novel, just as painting, music, sculpture, and architecture, are arts. It becomes clear that if we will not include them among the fine arts, these not lacking in anything the other fine arts possess, that we are being merely arbitrary. Either each is a fine art, or each is art. Perhaps we need to do is drop the fine and settle that all of these arts are indeed, art. The fine point has been drawn!

Find Someone

Lets face it, if youre trying to remain anonymous these days, it is almost impossible to do so. There is so much information that is public record that secrets are a concept of the past. It isnt hard to find someone. You may have to do a bit of research and digging, but for the most part, finding someone can be fairly simple. However, there are a lot of sites that advertise their services if you want to find someone for free. And sure, they might find the person for you, but if you want any personal information, there is typically a catch. There may be a membership registration and fee that has to be paid before youre allowed to see any information that the site accumulated on the intended individual.

For some, paying those fees isnt a problem they just want to find someone at any cost. For others, paying a fee is absolutely ridiculous and just isnt likely to happen. So, if you arent willing to pay the fee or give out your personal information on the internet in order to gain a membership or access to a site for a few days, what are your options if you want to find someone? Well, there are still many options. Of course, the most popular and easiest way to find someone is just ask around. Ask old neighbors, classmates or friends if they happen to know where so and so is. Of course, while it is the easiest way to find someone, it is often the quickest way to a dead end. If youre going through the trouble of trying to find someone, that tends to mean that no one is able to guide you in the right direction. Popular social sites, such as Facebook and MySpace, are also easy ways to find someone and connect with long lost friends.

People just cant help themselves when it comes to putting their personal information on display when it comes to those sites. It is amazing as to the things that people are posting and sharing with the world. While you can create a fake name or remain anonymous, if youre on those social sites, chances are, someone will find you the real you. So, if you want to find someone, try one of those sites. It is easy to join and very easy to conduct a few searches for some people.

If you arent successful, simply cancel your newly created own page and move forward. There is a site that is gaining popularity rather quickly. Zabasearch is a free way to find someone. However, while it may give you some generic information right away, you will still have to pay if you want a full report. Have some caution though if purchasing those reports. Make sure that it is the exact person that you are searching for. You dont want to pay the fees if it is the wrong person. Of course, weve all seen how easy it is to make mistakes on our credit reports and such. You may be paying for information and assuming that it is completely accurate but it may be outdated information, or worse, not valid information at all. Just make sure that you mission to find someone wont end up being a waste of your time or your money.
Accounting Reports are gauges for you business ship

Just as a ship requires a compass to point its way to its destination, gauges showing it fuel levels, its stability, and a myriad of other factors, instrumentation that is essentially the ship's primary information system, so too does a business, heading for profitability and longevity over the rough and quirky seas of business require an information system which reports its financial condition and position to the captains and hands in charge. This is the objective of a financial accounting reporting system.

If we think of financial reports as gauges telling us of some critical factors that contribute to the success or failure of our business endeavor, then we immediately understand the purpose of such reports. A financial accounting reporting system will generate such reports as the balance sheet, the cash flow statement, a trial balance, detailed transaction reports by account, a general ledger report, a transaction journal, a sales tax liability report, and a variety of other reports that give its readers insights into the health and stability of the business ship. For an illustration of a crucial report that comes out of you financial accounting reporting system, lets look at the all important profit and loss report.

Our most critical report is the profit and loss statement. The profit and loss statement, also called the P and L, can be generated on a daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly basis, especially with automated financial accounting reporting instruments. This report goes for the most crucial island your business ship is headed towards, net income.

The P & L report will show you cash income for the period(s) in question, which is the money earned from your sales and services. Of course, that amount is the total income obtained on all sales. What you sold also has a cost that must be subtracted from the gross sale amount. Your report must show the costs of good sold and sum a total of cost of goods sold (COGS). You are then able to determine your gross profit by subtracting COGS from total income. The result is your business' gross profit.

But wait a moment. It took more than COGS to sell your product. You had other expenses and the cost of these expenses will further reduce your profits, expenses such as bank service charges, vehicle insurance, and even depreciations. Then there are the payroll expenses, the payroll tax expenses, professional fees such as lawyers, repairs and maintenance, utilities such as electricity, and vehicle fuel expense. Your financial accounting reporting system will have to accumulate these expenses into a total expense and this too will have to be subtracted from gross profit to derive a net ordinary income. If you have other income streams and expenses these will have to worked into the calculation, either increasing or decreasing the final amount, the precious net income. If the net income is anywhere near or below zero, you might imagine your ship is sinking, and if it's above zero and near or above your business goals, you're on the right track and should probably keep doing what your doing.

Without an financial accounting reporting system, you're sailing by the seat of your pants. If you don't have one, get one now while your ship is still afloat.

Better Family Communications

Do you and your family members spend more time writing activities into the family calendar than communicating with each other? This has been a problem for some families for a very long time. Families think that being busy means being successful, but the real secret to success and security for the future is to feel like a close family that wins and loses together. Family communications are not what they should be in most families. Block out a few hours here and there on your calendar when no other activities are allowed and make time to be together as a family. The amazing results are almost immediate.

Your teenagers may act as if they don't care how good or how bad family communications are or how much time they spend with you, but know that they crave your attention. It is harder for teenagers to express the need to feel secure and a part of the family than younger children. They need the security and benefit of good family communications more than you could know. No matter how much they grumble and groan, work towards more family time time that can be spent talking as well as doing something together.

Family meal time is a great way to get started opening up more family communications. Many families are so busy that they eat when they can, and the dining room table is rarely occupied by more than one person at a time if anyone bothers to eat there at all. Make it a rule that you all have to eat together at least one night a week and on the weekends. After you have gotten a handle on this, make it two nights a week. You may not get everyone together every night, but you are going to notice that family communications improve after just a few nights at the table together.

You can also make sure that you have one family activity each weekend. This can be something that changes each week, but have a set time. Perhaps you want everyone to be available every Sunday afternoon. Maybe the best time is Saturday mornings. Find what is best for your family. Family communications will grow from these activities. You may not even have to talk much to feel better, and you may notice problems in your children that you had never noticed before. This time is precious for so many reasons.

Many families tried to institute 'family meetings' to try to make sure family communications where what they should have been. These never work, or rarely work. Most families feel the title puts too much pressure on everyone. Instead, work you family communications into the above ideas, and the small moments that you have together. Talk to your kids as you drive them to school, and drink your coffee later. Perhaps you have time to see how they did during the day while you make dinner. Ask them to help and you will find they start to open up without much prompting from you.

The Fashion Industry Fights Makers of Fake Designer Bags and

The Fashion Industry Fights Makers of Fake Designer Bags and Accessories

Try searching for Louis Vuitton or any other august fashion stalwart on Google, and a lot of the time, you'll find near the top of your results, a tempting set of offers for fine designer stuff at unbelievable discounts. You could consider yourself unlucky if you didn't see anything going for less than half off. There's just a little problem. It isn't really 50% off on Louis Vuitton bags - it's just on stuff that happens to look like it - fake fashion. This situation alone - that the fashion majors should have that deal with ripoffs like this, is bad enough. But adding insult to injury, any time a fashion major tries to get the most out of Google search by using its brand name as a keyword, it finds that cyber squatters have gone and bought those keywords already, to get their names up for their fake designer bags and other merchandise.

In fact, things have gotten so bad that companies that get the short end of the stick in the fake business have been appealing to Google to stop giving out registered keywords for sale to unauthorized people. And the courts in Europe are set to rule on whether what Google does is even legal. The entire modern business model the world has of using the Internet as an advertising vehicle could go down the tubes if things were allowed to run this way. It's not like American fashion houses have let this go lightly either. There have been lawsuits, and Google has paid money to settle out of court. So there is no clear legal precedent that anyone has been able to see yet. Google feels it does take a reasonable level of care with its whole keyword reservation system on AdWords. It doesn't allow any unauthorized advertiser to use registered trademarks on the content on a fake website. And when it finds a website selling fake designer bags or other fake merchandise, if the real company complains, Google will stop listing that website. They thought this was enough.

But Google wants to continue to be allowed to sell brand names as keywords to all kinds of parties because when the general user tries to search for, say, Fendi, they don't just want to get to the Fendi website - they want information on the company's history, different product reviews, what Vogue magazine has to say about it, and so on. And if those contributing websites want their pages on the top 10 on Google's search results, buying those keywords would be the only way. Wherever Google has stopped selling brand name keywords, usually, they were made to by court rulings - like in France. Google's practices in the US have to be among the most lax anywhere. As far as Google is concerned, nothing stops Pepsi, for instance, from using Coca-Cola's new brand name in a derogatory way all over its website. And this is a strange anomaly - anywhere else in the physical world, no one can use a registered trademark in the way that the authorized holder should object to.

Google hates to let this go, because it makes major money selling registered keywords to lots of bidders. Louis Vuitton and Google have been trying to get this whole mess sorted out for years. So far, the fashion major has been unsuccessful in getting Google to stop helping out the fake designer bags industry. The courts so far have felt it hurts no one is really going to be led into thinking that you can get Louis Vuitton for $100. So the company, they feel, really has no serious problem. But the company does have a point when it complains that with all these bidders for its brand name on Google, it has to pay Google much more than it otherwise would for each click.

Green Oregon shows the world how to be green

In 2006, at the Oregon Leadership Summit, an influential crew of politicians, was told by economic development expert and Harvard professor, Michael Porter, that Oregon might distinguish itself as a leader in environment living given its already solid advance in green technology - and they listened! Many Oregon businesses were already producing products and services dedicated to environmental living and business was behind green technology all the way. Out of this meeting came the Oregon Business Plan 2.0 headed by the Oregon Associated Business group, devised to put Oregon on the cutting edge, world wide, of environmental sustainability.

Oregon, deeply dependent on its trees, was already practicing environmental sustainability in order to keep its lumber industry competitive and sustainable. Trees are a renewable resource. As well as having a biological importance, that of absorbing carbon from the air and breathing oxygen into it, thereby cleaning and renewing air, trees also provide fuel. One of their lumber companies uses wood, or biomass, to power their electric generators. By using biomass to fuel their boilers, they don't have to burn the two million therms of natural gas that it would otherwise take. Even the emissions are used as process gases. Here's a perfect example of what a company dedicated to environmental living can do.

That's what an Oregon company is doing in deference to the environment. Their achievements can serve as an example throughout the world of how, with just a little consideration for environmental living, companies can reduce their negative impacts on the environment and save some money as well (seen the price of gas lately?). Moreover, Oregon has, per capita, more green buildings than all other state. Since 2001, Oregon has also mandated recycling, encouraged shared commuting, and promoted compositing. The state honors the LEED certification, which is the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design certification of the U.S. Green Building Council, giving preference to those developers who are intent on developing buildings radically oriented to upholding and advancing environmental living standards. A lofty example of such a building is found in Portland, a sixteen story building, 400,000 square feet, that is 61 percent more energy efficient that what even Oregon requires of all building in its major city. Then Oregon, in the Northwest Vesta, boast of windmill turbines powering businesses and home. And this is just what dedicated Oregon businesses have done to advance sustainable living, and set Oregon's green revolution in high relief throughout the world.

Oregon is not only leading in examples, but also in products. Oregon is a leading manufacturer of solar energy cells. She is a leader in the entire photo-voltaic field, and its university is renown for its state of the art green facilities, as well as a curriculum dedicated to environmental living on the professional level. You will find trombe walls, which are heaters that run from collected solar energy, bio-swale filters for cleansing collected rain water atop buildings which returns the water to the rivers. These are just to name of few of the products Oregon is producing to make the world a livable place in times to come.

Hats off to Oregon, the green state that is standing as tall as its pines in defense of the earth and the future of the human race.

Elvis Presley Music is Still Thriving

I used to hang out at local '50s themed restaurant that played what we refer to today as the oldies, music from the '50s and '60s. More than any other band or musician, Elvis Presley music seemed to play all the time.

I did not think much about this, because along with The Beatles, Elvis was probably the most famous and prolific rock-and-roll musician of that time period, but as I started paying more attention to the music being played at stores, malls and several other locations, I realized that Elvis Presley music is still thriving 50 years later.

The first time that I really experienced this phenomenon was when I went to Barnes & Noble one day, and I saw a little girl, probably not more than 12 or 13 years old, in the music department with headphones on, mouthing the words to Heartbreak Hotel. She seemed a little embarrassed when she looked up and saw me smiling, so I said, You know that song?

She laughed and said she loved Elvis Presley music and had several of his albums. She was buying one of his greatest hits CDs at Barnes & Noble, because she said that there were some songs on the CD that she did not have among her collection.

A few weeks later, I was taking my kids to a roller skating rink, where all of the kids seemed to be having a pretty good time, but were rather subdued. Then Elvis Presley's song Hounddog started up, and all of the kids started whistling and cheering, and it just seemed like the speed of the rollerskating increased tremendously.

I grew up after the time of Elvis Presley's prominance, and I was always a big fan, but I am a big music fan in general and was pretty unaware of how well his music has endured. It is not only something that you hear, either, but you can see it in cinema as well.

The first movies that come to mind for me when I think about Elvis Presley music are Honeymoon in Vegas and 3,000 Miles to Graceland. I know that there are many more, but I saw those two movies were on the other day right around the same time, and what an interesting coincidence that was!

Elvis Presley music seems to play wherever I go thse days, and I can see that, even after all of these years, the King would be proud to know that his songs are played all the time and his music is still thriving. I guess there is a reason that Elvis Presley is from a genre of music often referred to as classic rock, because it never seems to go away.
Killer of the Enemy and Child of the Water taught

Killer of the Enemy and Child of the Water taught the Jicarilla Apache the ways of the hunt, and the elk know it, even if the Apache doesn't

Elk hunting is still alive and well among those mythical, yet real, people of the American southwest, the Jicarilla Apache. There, in New Mexico, those regal prey, the bull elks (no calves, thank you), still walk in abundance with their harems, walk slowly, carefully, attentively, for the fear of the stealthy Apache has been ingrained into their tiny brains: after about ten thousand years of surprise attacks by these amber people of the desert red, these bulls know an Apache is something lethal, something to run from, even if they are smaller. They, the Apaches, say the crow will tell the elk when man is near if he does not leave the crow some food. They know; all animals know.

The Apaches, as so many other ancient people, were shown how to hunt elk successfully, what dances had to be performed, what gestures had to be made, what prayers had to be said, by two spirits, by Killer of the Enemy and Child of the Water. They must have taught them elk hunting well: the Jicarilla Apaches are still alive and well, hunting elk in New Mexico. Killer of the Enemy and Child of the Water have not fared as well. Most say the spirits have disappeared.

Today, even the Jicarilla have forgotten the actual dances, the requisite worship for good luck in elk hunting that these two spirits taught the Apache's ancestors after they had immigrated from a distant world across the water. Generations of European influence and Christian teaching have put these two spirits out of the Apache's contemporary memory. In a world where science reigns, no people will still hold to these shadows of the past. Many have even become ashamed to have believed such fables, and contemporary memory will not acknowledge such things as spirits and gods.

Most of the Jicarilla do not remember the elk hunting ceremonies their ancestors once practiced to bring that sweet elk meat to their tongues, food to forward the Jicarilla into the future, into the present, so that they could forget the spirits and have the knowledge of modern man. Today, casinos provide for their sustenance, at least for many of them, not elk hunting. But there are still some who hunt the elk of the ponderosa, of the mesas and flats. They will track the bulls for you as their ancestors did in ancient days. These trackers will be the first to deny the spirits taught them anything, and yet...

Go with one of these Apache trackers on the hunt, watch one move like liquid through pine forests, over the fields of sage, past tumbleweeds, watch as their eyes meditate on the ground before them, on the ragehorn hoofprints impressed on the red clay. Just as the elk fear man after so long a history with them, you will wonder, have these Apaches, even with the spirits lost in the darkness, have they had ingrained in their large brains, through thousands of years of elk hunting, what Killer of the Enemy and Child of the Water originally taught them when they were young and fresh? Do these spirits still operate in these trackers today? The Apache may not affirm this, but the elk sure act like Killer of the Enemy and Child of the Water are still in the air. Perhaps they are.

Getting the Ebook Publisher to Give up Copyright Protection

One wonders why everyone laments how the reading habit is quite lost in today's iPod-gazing world. The e-book reader market has never been hotter - Amazon looks like it cannot lose with its number one product the Kindle, the Sony Reader is a scrappy contender, and Barnes & Noble just came out with its Nook e-book reader. And the Apple iPad and HP's competing iSlate look set to demolish the competition with their versatile slate-type touchscreen tablet computers that can just do everything that a computer, a mobile phone, an e-book reader and God knows what else can do, all at once. So there it's settled, America can't get enough books to read, so red-hot is the market for e-books. There's just one little problem here - publishers are not so sure how they are going to protect their copyrighted intellectual material from a free-for-all once everything is released in electronic form.

Consider what happened when ten years ago; iTunes let the world have its first taste of copyright protection. iTunes said that if you bought a song for your iPod, it could only be played on that iPod, and could not be transferred anywhere else. It was not yours to own, and you could not share it with anyone. And then there were years of struggles between copyright holders and music lovers until finally, the industry gave in, and ended copyright protection. So now here come the Kindle and all its other look-alikes; you buy a Kindle with Amazon, you load it was a few dozen books and you are happy. Until you see a nice shiny iPad. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could take all your ebooks from the Kindle and transfer them to read on the iPad? Well, that does sound like a very nice idea. It's too bad no ebook publisher will hear of it.

That is not even the biggest problem. When people couldn't use their music any way they wished, there was an outcry. People began to write articles and put out blog posts that seemed to get satan and the music labels all mixed up. For something that people seem to consume just as much as music - e-books, where is the outrage. How can any e-book publisher expect you to pay $20 for a book, and lose it the moment that reader dies or you switch readers? There are voices of protest, but not as many as there should be to get the ebook publisher community to change its ways.

How many times do we have to go around the same path to understand that when morbidly fearful publishers install badly-designed copy protection, all it does is make it difficult for paying customer to read a book that's paid for? The customer has to jump through so many hoops every time, that he's just refuses to do it anymore, and the copyright holder has to just abandon the whole thing. Wasn't it wonderful when the music companies just dropped their hated copy protection and DRM?

What happens really when an e-book publisher or a famous band like Radiohead put their music or book out for free, but also sell it in the bookstores for a price? It has been tried, and it certainly doesn't bankrupt anyone. People do download them for free if they can get them without paying for them. Usually these are people who wouldn't be able to afford to pay for it anyway, so you aren't really losing anything; you only gain wider exposure. And paying customers pay too. For now, every ebook publisher is trying to at least make copy protection somewhat sensible. They're making sure that if you buy an e-book for the Kindle, you can play it on any device. Going without copy protection does work. It doesn't look like the music labels are filing for bankruptcy now does it?

Easy Way To Make Money

With the economy in shambles and people losing their jobs more and more each day, people are desperate for ways to make some money and find ways to pay their bills. These are tough times and it isnt easy to make ends meet right now. Scam artists are finding that taking advantage of peoples woes right now is an easy way to make money. Unfortunately, those scam artists are lurking around each and every corner nowadays. When you find yourself searching for an easy way to make money, think twice before signing up for that offer that sounds too good to be true. Yes, there are jobs out there and ways to make money from home, but they are very difficult to find.

You shouldnt have to pay anyone in order to get information on ways to make money or start a work from home job. Simply use some caution before you find that your financial woes have gotten worse from falling for a scam.
With some creativity, you will find that there are some easy ways to make money. Some of them may only make you a few extra bucks and others may bring in more of a steady income. One easy way to make money is to get a job. Of course, it might not be your dream job. And no, it may not be something that you want to do forever, but isnt flipping burgers or cleaning hotel rooms better than having no income at all? You do what you have to do in order to survive and thrive. Another easy way to make money is to just start selling things. Having a yard or garage sale could bring in some quick money and you might find that your house looks a lot less cluttered after youve gotten rid of quite a few things. Listing some things of greater value for sale in a local newspaper, on ebay or even for free on craigslist could be an easy way to make money as well. If you truly need to pay some bills, perhaps selling some things that you dont need is a good idea for you.

If you have some clothing that is in good condition and just taking up space in your closet, see if you can put some thins on consignment at a local thrift or consignment shop. You may get cash for it or simply a store credit. However, a store credit for clothing is never something to turn down!

Another easy way to make money is to start doing some odd jobs for others. You could advertise lawn care assistance, help in running errands, babysitting or anything else that you can think of. Believe it or not, people have pet peeves and some are willing to pay in order to not have to perform those pet peeves. Helping someone else out is an easy way to make money. Perhaps you have a truck and can help others move or haul items around. Maybe you are skilled in playing an instrument and can teach lessons for a particular fee. No matter what you may have in mind as easy way to make money, you can probably make it flourish. Granted, it may not last forever but if it helps to make ends meet for the time being, then take your ideas and run with them.
How To Dress For a Wedding

If you are going to a wedding, you want to know that you are dressing appropriately for the occasion. Besides deciding if you can go and what to get for a gift, this is probably one of the bigger questions on your mind. You do not want to be under dressed, but you also do not want to be too formal. When thinking about how to dress for a wedding , there are a few things you should ask yourself, and even others involved in the wedding if you are still not sure what you should wear.

If you are going to an outdoor wedding in the middle of summer, you can dress for a wedding such as this in light clothing. No one wants to be hot and sweaty at a gathering like a wedding. However, you have to know what is expected before you choose. If the couple is having a small BBQ in someone's backyard, you won't be expected to wear anything special, just make sure your clothes are clean and stain free. If it is a bit more formal, ladies should wear sun dresses and men can wear light fabric pants and a short sleeved, button-up shirt. These are easy to put together, breathe well, and are appropriate for most outdoor but more formal events.

You can dress for a wedding indoors during the summer in a few different ways. If you know the grooms and his groomsmen are renting tuxedos, you can guess that the dress style is going to be more formal. You want to find something that you would wear out to a nice dinner, but that will also help you stay cool. For the most part, the bride and groom are going to choose venues that allow them to stay comfortable, so if you know they are dressing up, you should be just fine doing the same. If you are not sure, just call them and ask.

In the winter months, your options for what to wear when you dress for a wedding are wider. You may be able to tell by the invitation that a wedding is formal, semi-formal, or casual in nature. Winter weddings often come with a theme, which can help you decide what to wear. If you are totally unsure what to wear for any type of wedding, and you are going as a guest, err on the side of caution and wear something semi-formal. This will fit almost anywhere. You may find you are not the only ones that were not sure what to wear.

On the other hand, if you are going to a wedding as the mother of the groom or in some other role, you want to dress a bit more formal than what you would wear if you were going as a guest. You will not look out of place if you are more dressy than the guests that were not sure what to wear. Most people expect that the parents, grandparents, and the siblings of the bride and groom are going to be dressed more formally anyway. If you really can't decide how to dress for a wedding, call the bride or groom for some input, just don't wait until the day before or the day of the wedding to ask.

Dog Adoption - Is it Wrong to want a Purebred?

Dog Adoption - Is it Wrong to want a Purebred?

At the snooty dog contests and kennel clubs, the fashionable have always strutted their prize-winning pooches carefully in keeping with one particular credo - the more purebred a dog is, the more high class it becomes. At a very upscale dog show at London recently, as the contestants walked their preternaturally well-groomed porcelain doll dogs past the judges, at least two members of the audience weren't impressed. They held up protest signs that said something like "Purebred shows helped kill dog adoption". This is really a stand that pushes a lot of people's buttons. The snooty dog enthusiasts hate the thought that their pursuit of perfection in the dogs they love and admire, could be not as superior a path to take as promoting ordinary mutts. And on the other hand are the real dog lovers who just like dogs the way they are - and would really like to promote dog adoption around the country, so that we can begin to do something about the millions of dogs that are put down each year at the dog shelters. They love to point out how even the White House did its bit, by adopting a shelter dog.

Now this problem may not be as straight forward as it sounds. For instance, did you know that of all the dogs you'd find at any adult shelter, purebred dogs would account for about one in four? It isn't as if purebred dogs are all in homes already, eating precious little finger sandwiches made of their favorite dog breadspread. The whole problem with prize dog breeding is that most breeders do it carelessly. Purebred dogs often have very serious genetic defects - they don't get bred far enough from their own family and a considerable amount of inbreeding occurs. About two out of three purebred retrievers in the US for instance, died of cancer. Most of these problems occur when you buy your purebred dog from one of the low end pet stores. Getting them from knowledgeable breeders, will usually lower your chances of finding one with a problem.

Of course, breeders need to not try so hard to breed for a certain particular favorite look. That way you only have a few dogs to play around with, and you end up breeding them together so often, that there has to be inbreeding. If all of this is about how shelter dogs don't get adopted the problem lies in a different place. They say that about 2 million dogs are put to death each year. That is about the same number of adopted pet dogs that die each year of old age with their loving families. Those families would want a new dog to replace the old dog with. The thing is, not enough is done to make sure that dog adoption at shelters is made easy. For instance, they close really early in the evenings, so that it becomes difficult for working families to go to them for dog adoption. In addition, they don't have arrangements with local communities for foster care programs.

Another way to look at the dog adoption problem is this. One out of every two adopted dogs in the US, is returned within a few days of its having entered a home, because there happens to be a personality mismatch between the dog and the adoptive family. What happens to that dog? Of course, they put it up for adoption again, and if they are unsuccessful they put it to death. The entire reason that a purebred program exists is that it makes it possible to breed certain personality traits into a dog, so that it can be be predicted to have a personality that will go with a particular family. As you can see, the dog adoption stands are not as simple as they seem.

Distance Education Classes Can Be Convenient and Difficult at the

Distance Education Classes Can Be Convenient and Difficult at the Same Time

Throughout my college career, I took the bulk of my courses at the university, but I did take about three or four distance education classes, as well. What I found out was, while they can be very convenient in that you can work from home or wherever you want, they can also be difficult, because the instructor has to make up for the lack of lecture time, which usually comes in the form of reading and extra assignments.

I received a bachelor's degree in psychology about 10 years ago, and my last few semesters in college I opted for some distance education classes. I was interning and working and generally a very busy person who had to be a lot of places at a lot of different times.

I had two of my basics that I had not yet taken, including an economics class and a business class, and I opted to do the courses online. I figured that it would make it easier for me to be able to work from home or on my lunch break at my internship.

The distance education classes that I took were more convenient in certain regards. I could wake up later in the morning. I could work on my coursework whenever I wanted to, which was often late at night, and I only had to make a trip to the university three or four times a semester to take the exams for each class.

The problem was, with a lack of lectures from a live professor, there was about twice as much reading as I would have with a traditional college class, and there were two or three books and other supplemental reading for which I also had to pay.

There was also special software that I needed for both distance education classes that I not only had to pay for, but also had to install on my own computer. I am not the most technologically-savvy person, so that presented quite a challenge for me.

Another difficulty with the distance education classes that I took was that it seemed like there was always a quiz or other assignment that I had to work on, and those had to be completed on a certain time scale. While it is often assumed that distance education classes are largely self-paced, I did not find them to be that way.

Now, my sister has taken practically nothing but distance education classes since she started college two years ago and loves them. I am not saying that they are bad or should not be utilized when necessary, but I would be prepared for some difficulties that usually are not addressed when such classes are offered.
For the Major Fashion Designers Websites and Internet Excitement are

For the Major Fashion Designers Websites and Internet Excitement are Last on their List. Why?

Do remember that Seinfeld episode where Kramer has this whole pointless story about how he wanted to return a pair of pants he bought, but by the time he got to the store "he ended up ruining the very pants he set out to return"? Apparently, stories about your clothing can be a big deal - and people can come around in a sort of social networking attitude, to share their favorite clothing stories. That's the whole concept behind Burberry's new venture; the company from England has been making raincoats (or rather trenchcoats, if you are a fan of Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca), for almost an entire century and their new way to stay relevant, is the new Art of the Trench social networking site. As fashion designers' websites go this one is an unbelievable creative leap, and a success.

Many of the fashion houses we know and admire, have grown to their present levels of international acclaim from a single basic product that their founder once thought of. For some, like Hermes, it was a handbag, for Gucci, it was trademark fashionable shoes, and for Burberry, it was the coat. These remarkable fashion icons, haven't ever tried to market themselves to the customer. They are just too lofty a deal for that. But today, with sales to the ultrarich falling, it just seems to the fashion houses, that presenting themselves to the young urban youth market as an aspirational brand, could make up for what has been lost in traditional sales. And this could be quite exciting as designers' websites try to bring their famed sense of artistry and fashion to their online presence.

Art of the Trench is undoubtedly the most successful attempt so far. The website, curiously, allows you to get street level portrayals of people going about their business, wearing trenchcoats. In the beginning, the pictures you saw on the website were just professionally-shot fashion photography. But pretty soon, the idea touched a nerve somewhere, and millions of people have been sending in their own trenchcoat pictures. No other designers' websites have ever thought of a way to just showcase their products on the Internet, and involve people in a passionate way in that attempt. It is quite disappointing if you think about it, but these other companies are icons of fashion too - that are supposed to be so able to judge the pulse of high fashion and what people will love in the future; and they have been left on the sidelines by the Internet - the very iconof today.

Prada, the name that launches a million dreams in starry-eyed rich young people seems curiously short of ideas on what to do with the Internet, if you go by the look of their website. When you buy a DVD of a hit movie, you expect a bunch of extras - the process of filmmaking, the bloopers, interviews - you hope to get inside the very skin of the creative process. Prada however, just gives us a drab look into a series of its products from its latest fashion season, and that's about it. As they begin to sort their plans out, the future for fashion designers websites is sure to be exciting. The same fashion names like Karl Lagerfeld are sure to exploit their rockstar-like mystique by having their creative moments documented on videos on the site, and live broadcasts of the creative process are sure to attract millions of fashion devotees. Top designers have an opportunity here like no other, to actually become fashion gods on the Internet.

Reasons to Buy Designer Kids Clothing

We all want the best for our kids. We stay up at night dreaming about their futures. What school will they go to? What profession will they seek? How can I give them every opportunity in life? However, when they're just little tykes, the best we can do is dress them for success. One way you can do this is by dressing them in designer kids clothing.

What makes average clothes different from designer kids clothing? Well, a lot of it has to do with the tag. Prominent lines like Versace, Dolce and Gabana and True Religion all boast a line of designer kids clothing. More commonly accessible brands, such as Gap, also offer designer kids clothing lines. These name brands are often what distinguish regular clothes from designer for adults, so it is no surprise that the same applies for children's wear.

However, designer kids clothing is also distinguishable based on quality. Cheaper brands, such as Oshkosh or off brands from Walmart and Target, may offer an initial savings, but the clothing bought there is unlikely to last. They are usually made with shoddy workmanship, and are more susceptible to rips, stains and simple falling apart than designer kids clothing. Designer clothes are more likely to last, so if you plan on having more chidlren, you could save yourself money in the long run by buying designer kids clothing that you can pass down.

Another reason to consider designer kids clothing is style. Sure, you may not be completely concerned about your kid looking like a fashion plate on a day to day basis, but having a couple of quality outfits for special events or portraits is definitely a plus. Designer kids clothing is less likely to be emblazoned with Dora the Explorer or Barney, making for a classier look. Of course, three, they also have antlers, a real prize to a deer hunter, almost as desirable as the meat. Let's look at our hunting prospects for tagging one of these bucks.

Are there enough of them out there? You bet. There are more than enough of them now. Deer is plentiful throughout North America, at all time highs. Public land is packed with them, and so is private land. Deer hunting on private land requires a skill outside a hunter's normal skills, people skills. Since deer is more plentiful on private lands, and about 77% of deer hunters pursuing the most hunted deer of all, the whitetails, tag their buck on private lands, you probably want to develop these people skills along with your aim. You just have to know how to ask. If you see a buck frequenting someone's property, walk right up to the owner's house and tell them what you're after. Look for no hunting posts as you scout out areas. No sense bothering someone who has already said no. Don't ignore these postings when deer hunting, since they could be there solely for the protection of people.

Actually finding the buck is no easy matter, but also part of the joy of deer hunting. The deer seek two things: they go where there is food and where there is cover. They love alfalfa and acorns. If you see these, that buck may be close by. Deer also incline towards dense woodlots where they can make their escape if needs be. Look where the brush is thick. Aerial photos and maps give you a good view of the valleys and ridge tops. Look at these to zero in on that buck. Look for mature woods, at their edges, where new woods are starting to grow. Look for hills, where they slope into valleys. Avoid forests with overbearing canopies, since these prevent the growth of brush the deer depends on for cover. Scout, looking for pellets (droppings), for hair scraped or rubbed on brush, for impressions in the grass where they may have bedded, and, of course, for hoof prints. Don't over-hunt an area: deer learn to avoid permanent stands within a year. By four, four and a half years of life, bucks seem to remember others being shot.

Deer hunting, especially a mature buck, means getting to know the buck. They defy all expectations, so you may have to stalk them several times. Mature bucks don't run, not even at the crack of gunfire. They hide. Oh, they may appear often enough, traveling with the wind even, but hiders, that buck could be right next to you, and unless you can smell it, you wouldn't know. The visible ones, however, are the ones that are most often tagged. You may have to track the same buck for several days before you finally catch him. Deer hunting is no slacker's game.

Remember, a mature buck shows intelligence. They know their terrain, probably better than you ever will. Each is different, so don't rely on typical patterns. Young buck are always more visible than the mature ones. The mature ones are smart, and you, deer hunter, have to think of them as individuals. Whatever you do, when deer hunting, don't let them know you're there.

So, here's you starting information. Get more by being the worthy predator and stalking that mature buck. If you get one of them, that makes you a hunter supreme. Good luck, because you may need it.

Beautify With a Decorative Switch Plate Cover and Other Accessories

Beautify With a Decorative Switch Plate Cover and Other Accessories

I'm not a professional interior designer or anything like that, but I still like to make sure each and every room in my house looks great. I scour magazines and websites for ideas, and I also shop at home improvement stores quite a bit just to see what kind of new products have come in since the last time I visited. One thing I've learned over the years is that it's often the small touches, such as a nice decorative switch plate cover or the perfect table lamp, that make the biggest differences in how good a room can look. That's why I now pay more attention to accessories than to anything else.

While I can't deny that a fabulous leather sofa or high-tech entertainment center complete with a 52-inch flat-screen television could go a long way towards improving your living room, how realistic is it to make these kinds of major changes all over the house? Buying new furniture is an expensive proposition, one that few of us can afford to make more than once every 5-10 years or so. But no matter how tight our finances are, we can always splurge on a decorative switch plate cover, area rug, or throw pillows.

A decorative switch plate cover that features a beautiful floral pattern, whimsical abstract design, or even a sports team logo can instantly add some mood to your rooms. For example, try putting cartoon-themed covers over the light switches in your kids' bedrooms to see how they brighten the whole place and make everyone smile. In the kitchen, a decorative switch plate cover with a fruit motif might be the perfect way to complement your colorful paint job and appliances. The home office would benefit from a dignified antique copper accents. There are just so many different designs and styles to choose from that you're sure to find something to match your current decor.

Another cheap way to beautify a room is to add throw pillows wherever possible. Toss a few pillows in fun shapes and colors on the couch in the den to give the place new life. The same can be done in the guest bedroom or master bedroom as well. Go for a more formal pillow style in the living room to renew the ambiance and give your sofa a whole different look.

Replacing hardware such as doorknobs, hinges, drawer pulls, and cabinet handles or changing faucets in the kitchen and bathrooms are other quick, relatively cheap upgrades that can make you feel like you're living in a brand-new house!

The bottom line here is that if you're looking enhance your home by adding a little extra pizzazz throughout the place, your best bet is to think small. Something as seemingly insignificant as a decorative switch plate cover or a vintage brass doorknob can really work wonders, so try some of these upgrades today!
Tips for Decorating on a Budget

You look around your home, and you are bored. The furniture has been the same for years, and you haven't changed a thing since your current senior in college was roaming the house in diapers. Perhaps it's time to consider redecorating! However, will money as tight as it usually is these days, decorating on a budget may seem like a pipe dream. Never fear- here are several money saving options that will make your house seem brand new!

Consider a paint job. Decorating on a budget does not need to be a complete overhaul of your house. Changing one thing, drastically, can give a room a completely different feel. Are the white walls of your living room a little bland? Pick a color in the fabric of your curtains, couch, or even picture frames, and paint your walls. The color will add new life to your room, and you can usually manage to paint a room, including all of the supplies, for around $75. That won't break the bank, and it will blow your mind. Another interesting color change? Paint your ceiling. A dark blue ceiling can make any room pop!

Cruise your local consignment and resale stores. When decorating on a budget, don't be afraid to buy used. A lot of times, consignment stores have strict standards about the level of wear and tear they will accept on their consigned pieces, so the furniture you're looking at will be in really good condition. You will end up saving hundreds of dollars on pieces that will make your house look brand new. You also don't need to buy a whole new house full of furniture. A (like) new armchair, china hutch or dresser can add a new dimension to the room, and can sometimes be found for as little as $50. Now, that's decorating on a budget!

If you have the time and the will, refurbish some of the pieces you already have. That sofa that you've had for thirty years and is nearly worn white? Recover it yourself! There are a variety of books, how to guides, and YouTube videos available that can show you how to do the process, and the materials are not all that expensive. Some people will find the experience relaxing, and it becomes a hobby for them. It doesn't have to be super expensive material, either. Browse the clearance aisles at stores like Hobby Lobby to find upholstery material for cheap! If it becomes something you're good at, you can even do it on a regular basis and make money off of it.
Decorating a Living Room in Any Style

The living room can easily be classified as the heart of a home. It's where everyone congregates to talk, play games, and watch television together. With such an integral importance for family gatherings, it is important to put thought, time, and effort into decorating a living room. There are a lot of options available, so you have to really think about what would best suit your family.

When decorating a living room, you can decide to utilize a casual American decor. This kind of decorating theme usually involves neutral colors, stain resistant fabrics, and traditional pieces. For example, you may choose a tan synthetic suede couch, with rust color pillows for the sitting pieces in the room. Coffee and end tables are usually some kind of darkly stained oak, with special finishing to prevent water rings from forming due to glasses and cups being placed on the surface. This type of decor also usually goes well with carpeted rooms and basic decorations such as lamps and family pictures on the walls. Decorating a living room in a casual American decor allows it to be easily dressed up and still be used on a day to day basis by large families with kids.

Decorating a living room can use a little more creativity, too. One can always decide to take on a more complex theme of decor, such as shabby chic. This decor style is still fairly family friendly, but may require a little more searching to find appropriate pieces. Furniture rarely matches in this theme. Do not be afraid to go to second hand shops to find your pieces! This will not only aid your quest of finding cute, mismatched furniture that still work together in a room, but will also save you a great deal of money. Couches and love seats can be various styles and designs, though most tables in shabby chic decor are made of a light, distressed wood. When decorating a living room in shabby chic style, adorn your walls with white framed pastel prints to put on a finishing touch.

Decorating a living room in a modern style is also an option you can consider. This is usually not recommended if you have young children, as the fabrics are not the best at sustaining wear and tear, and many of the tables are made of glass. However, if you have the checkbook to accommodate decorating a living room in modern style, it can be well worth your while. Furniture is usually very linear in fashion, and a minimalist approach is utilized when selecting pieces. It is often less about comfort and more about fashion. Wall hangings typical for this type of decor are abstract art and mirrors.
Decorating A Baby Nursery On A Tight Budget

Babies are expensive, and we are not always ready when we find out that we are going to be blessed with a new addition to the family. If you find that you just don't feel that you have the money you wish you had, remember that if most people waited until they could afford a baby, there would be far fewer of them in the world today. You can make it work with a little imagination and some money saving tips. You can go about decorating a baby nursery for far less than you probably think. You can have a great looking room without having to take out a small loan to get it done.

You are probably thinking about how you would like to be decorating a baby nursery with colors and a theme, but you may also be thinking that this is just too expensive. It does not have to be. You can paint a room very cheaply, and you can get almost any color you can imagine at any paint store. If you can dream it up, they can mix the color for you, and it is usually the same price as any other color paint. Be sure to choose your color and paint the room with enough time to spare so that the room can be aired out before baby comes home. Look for nursery safe paints also.

For other decorative touches, think about wallpaper boarders or wall stickers. These are often very inexpensive items you can use when decorating a baby nursery. These are more and more common today, and that means you may find whatever you wish when you search. Look online and look in your local home decor and home improvement stores to see what is out there. In comparison to other things you can do, these are by far the least expensive items you can get but they come with a lot of decorative bang.

Think about finding gently used baby furniture when you are decorating a baby nursery on a budget. You have to be careful, as you have to make sure the items you choose have not been recalled and do not have any problems. They should be in very good shape before you put your baby in them. There are many great ways to find good but used furniture items. You can repaint or re-stain them if you wish, but remember to use baby friendly paints and stains when you do this, and as with paint on the walls, do your work long before baby arrives so they can air out well.

There may be some items you want to have that you simply can not afford. These are things that you can put on your baby registry. You may not get them, but you may also get all that you want. Just make sure that when decorating a baby nursery, and then stocking it, that you do spend your money on the essentials first. Then you can use your imagination, and your family and friends, to fill in the rest.

Making Your Own Decorated Cakes

Cakes are used for all types of celebrations. If you got married, you probably had a wedding cake. Most children have one for each birthday, and there are other times when cakes is a great idea for a party. Whatever the case, you have many options when buying cakes. There are box cakes you stir up and bake, and there are amazing creations that you can buy from your local bakery. There are many cakes in between. If you are feeling motivated and creative, you can make some of your own decorated cakes. It may not be as hard as you think.

If you want to start making your own decorated cakes for the special events in your life, or for those that you know, you do not want to make your first one the day before an event is to occur. You have to practice. One of the first things you should do is to find cake recipes that you love. The ones you buy in a box are okay, but there are some amazing cake recipes out there that you can use with your decorated cakes. You want your cakes to look good, of course, but you also want them to taste amazing.

Try out a few recipes that you think sound good, and then see what you find to taste good but that is also relatively easy to make. There are all types of cakes out there, so come up with a few options. Once you know what you are doing for the cakes, you can then worry about how you want to decorate them. Decorated cakes come in two major forms these days, with some being decorated with fondant and some with butter cream. Each is a different way of making decorating cakes, so try out each one and see what you like to do the most. Some people do both and love each one.

In order to work on making your own decorated cakes, you have to first get all the right items. There are a few ways that you can get what you need. You need pans for the cakes and also the items you need to make your decorations and apply icing. These things can all be found in local craft stores, home stores, and you can also find these things online. Look for special shaped cake pans, and also the standard round and square baking sizes, as well as the piping and shaping tools needed to make decorated cakes at home. Look for how to books as well, if you think these would be helpful.

Perhaps the most fun you can have with decorated cakes is coming up with your own ideas for each event. If you don't know what to do at first, look for examples that you can try to mimic. Once you get pretty good at that, you can then come up with your own unique ideas for building and baking your own decorated cakes. Not only are these fun, they can also be the hit of the party. Having a one of a kind cake that reflects the personality of the honored guest is something they will cherish and remember forever.

Decorating Small Spaces in Big Ways

For many of us, trying to find ways to use rooms is not a normal problem. If anything, we are trying to find ways to cram all of our things into spaces far too small all of them. Decorating small spaces can be a difficult task, indeed. That doesn't mean there aren't several ways to make functional, fashionable.

For starters, when decorating small spaces, use your collectibles and decoration. Do you have a lot of books? Put them to work. Don't just buy a bookshelf. Instead, use your heavier books in combination with a couple of heavy duty boards, and stack up two pillars of books to place the board on top of. Repeat the process on top of the board, and place a new board on top. Voila! You have created your own book shelf, simultaneously storing more books in the process in a fun, decorative fashion.

Another problem when decorating small spaces is trying to make the most of the floor space when placing your furniture. It is often tempting to place the furniture directly against the wall in an attempt to clear off space along the floor. Resist this temptation! If you pull the furniture even six inches away from the wall, and hang mirrors on the wall, it gives the appearance of a larger space, and the mirrors amplify this with a sense of elegance. It may sound counter intuitive, but this is one tip for decorating small spaces that works.

When decorating small spaces, you should always make sure to take advantage of your vertical space. Shelves can be your friend. Consider mounting them a foot down from the ceiling, and lining the shelves with things you need to store, but don't use on a regular basis. For example, these shelves can be great for housing good china, board games, DVD collections, family photos, and even your fine jewelry. Not only does this give you more space on the ground level, but it can be considered a kind of protection for your things. Climbing up to the ceiling will not be the easiest feat for a burglar!

Decorating small spaces does require a certain amount of discipline. Sure, that gorgeous bust of Aphrodite is stunning, but is it really the best thing for your ten foot by ten foot living room? You may have always wanted a king size four poster bed, but will it really fit in your eight foot by eight foot bedroom on the fifth floor of an apartment building? Decorating small spaces requires you to be realistic in your creativity. Make sure the things you're planning will fit in the space your planning them for.
Shedding Light on Dating Violence

It is easy to say to yourself, It couldn't happen to me. However, for women across the United States, dating violence is all too harsh a reality. Most of the time, we don't hear about intimate partner violence unless it is classified as domestic violence or requires medical attention. However, this narrow lens fails to show us the full picture, and in situations such as these, knowledge is power.

First, it is important to realize that dating violence can be verbal or physical. If your partner verbally abuses you on a regular basis, this can be considered dating violence. Verbally demeaning or manipulative behavior can have a negative impact on a person's psyche, and put them in harms way as the mental ramifications bleed into their day to day life. Much like physical internal bleeding, it can be difficult to see the effects of this kind of dating violence until the damage is wide spread.

Physical dating violence can seem subtle at first. You may think that a shove out of the way or the throwing of a pillow across the room during a fight is not a big deal, but that violence can escalate. What happens if the next time you fight, your loved one isn't holding a sweatshirt, but a set of keys? What if the next time they shove past you, you fall and hit your head? Even small acts of dating violence are unacceptable.

Dating violence can also transition into sexual violence. Because of the intimacy that occurs in dating situations, if aggression begins to manifest itself in platonic exchanges, it is possible for that to transition to the bedroom. This is particularly alarming, given the stigma associated with saying no if you've said yes in the past. It does not matter if you had consented to sex an hour earlier. If you say no but your partner fails to listen, it is rape.

Dating violence is dangerous, because we often makes excuses for the people we care about. However, if people care for you, they do not abuse you on any level. Whether the dating violence is verbal, physical or sexual in nature, if it occurs, the best thing you can do for yourself is to extricate yourself from the situation. Violence can easily escalate, so do not fool yourself into thinking it was a one time event. If you forgive an abusive partner, it is only easier for them to hurt you the next time around, because they know you'll let them get away with it in the end. It is a matter of protecting yourself and self-respect. Do not tolerate dating violence in any capacity.
Mapping the Terrain of Dating Sites

Today, everything is about convenience. People want to accomplish objectives efficiently, effectively and, above all, with little to no effort. With this mindset dominating the public, it is not surprising that the long cultured art of courting has moved to the digital sphere with dating sites. Dating sites, or websites developed to aid in finding your perfect match, are increasingly popular and accepted. However, what are you going to get when you log on to one of these dating sites? Reviews are mixed at best.

First, you should know that your initial results will likely be far from a fairytale ending. Dating sites usually make you take some kind of personality and lifestyle assessment in order to come up with your ideal matches. Some of these assessments are rather generic, so your matches will be far from tailored or vetted. Prepare to be matched with someone twenty years your senior whose only common trait is a love of Chinese food.

Other dating sites force you to take very specific and probing assessments. The result? You may get rejected! These dating sites only accept what they deem as healthy, happy, stable people as candidates, which is far from fun for our mostly neurotic population. Even if you are accepted, you may not have a match within two hundred miles. Makes dating a little more difficult, doesn't it?

Dating sites also charge monthly fees. On top of having to pay for internet access, a decent computer and a digital camera to get your picture on the web, you'll have to pay what is sometimes
$20 a month to get your information out there. When you add all this into the cost of the actual preparation and dates you go on, it makes dating a much more costly affair than it needs to be.

Another problem with dating sites is that their matches are largely based on what you THINK you want. While some people are enlightened enough to know exactly what they are looking for, the majority of us only delude ourselves into thinking we know.
