I admit it. I’m pretty much in love with the bronze wall tile still life constructions created by self-taught artists Jack and Alice McLean.

Each tile is welded, forged, machined and colored with a hot process patina, then constructed and assembled with antique and recycled glass beads collected from around the globe.

I’ve been a fan of Jackie Abrams’ work for several years. In fact, I was certain that I had featured her on DAM before. . .but I was wrong. Oh, so wrong! Without further delay. . .please enjoy Abrams’ wonderful paper and wire woven baskets.

Hex – Red and Grey

Souda - translates to “black feminine” in Arabic
cotton paper, acrylic paint and mediums, wire, beads, waxed linen, sand
19” x 12” x 12”

Talking Sisters
woven with cotton paper and wire, these sisters are coated with several layers of encaustic wax, embedded with lines and layers of conversation
14″ and 15″ high

Bayda – translates to “white feminine” in Arabic
cotton paper, acrylic paint and mediums, wire
16″ x 6″ x 6″

Abrams also collaborates with glassblower Josh Bernbaum, creating vessels like the ones below – a sweet fusion of fiber and glass.

sara renzulli has a way with the animals

Sara Renzulli enjoyed a professional career as a painter for more than 20 years before she taught herself needle felting. She quickly fell in love with the craft and her distinct style of creating animals with natural fibers found a following that continues to grow today. Many of her critters are built around a wire armature and are fully posable. Love.

Asian Elephant, 12″ tall

The elephant above is needle felted onto a wire armature. With a mouth that opens, you can reposition her trunk and ears if you must, as well as the rest of her body.

Lion and Lamb, 15″ long x 9″ tall (Lion)
The lion is needle felted around a wire armature and is fully posable. Whiskers are made from horse hair.
