It’s a bit crazy to think of how much more I love Belle & Sebastian more now than when their 2006 album The Life Pursuit came out. It wasn’t that the last album wooed my so much, but more that I sort of rediscovered their entire catalog. And that’s a good thing. So I was pretty excited to learn from our friend Frank at Listen Before You Buy that they’ve released a new track early to their Twitter followers and, as can be expected on the internet, as quickly as that happened, they shared it with theread more and hear the song

Alan Palomo’s Neon Indian has just digitally released a deluxe edition of the 2009 album Psychic Chasms and it is deluxe fo real, coming with a 9 song bonus remix disc entitled Mind Cntrl: Psychic Chasms Possessed. But if this Anoraak Remix of the title track is any indication, there is nothing possessed about it. In fact, it seems to be right up there among the more beautiful things I’ve heard recently. The original track, which I must admit is almost a bit difficult to listen to at times, has been given a complete makeover, one thatread more and hear the song

I’ve declared many times recently that Ellie Goulding might be one of the best artists out there to remix, because besides her original tunes being so great, just about every remix you ever hear it grade A top notch awesome. But I’m starting to believe that Groove Armada might be a close second in the very same category. Check out this otherwordly take on “I Won’t Kneel” by the Bloody Beetroots.
Even though I’ve always liked hip-hop, I’ve never considered myself a huge hip-hop fan for whatever reason. But despite all of that, I’ve always been a major fan of Outkast (me and everyone else, right?). In fact, one of my unexpected favorite moments from this years Pitchfork Festival was during the Big Boi set when he started performing Outkast hits among his own and I really realized how much I loved their tunes. I think it was partially surprise because for some reason it had never crossed my mind that Big Boi would be performing Outkast songs (I’mread more and hear the song

If you would have told me that I would love a Delorean tune with a little dubstep flavor, I probably would have first laughed in your face, then I may have done that Three Stooges eye poke thing to you, and maybe kicked you in the nuts when you least expected it, grimacing in pain. Luckily, I was told that I might like it over the computer, so the theoretical “you” in this case were spared. Although I don’t know if this technically qualifies as dubstep, I don’t really care. Because just hearing that weird vocal sample inread more and hear the song

I don’t exactly know what bedroom pop means. But this song should be called bedroom pop. Cuz it’s total bedroom music, if you catch my drift, wink wink, nudge nudge. I mean, the original version of this killer Active Child tune was already enough to drive a couple of kids (over 18 of course) straight into the bedroom. But then Classixx straight up mid 90s TLC R&B’ed it up and made it even more ripe for all kinds of innapropriate, but in a very nostalgic and appropriate way. This remix just oozes sexy time, and isn’t thatread more and hear the song

But to make things a little more interesting, the video features real-life representations of 30 music blogs, and they’re holding a contest to see who can name them all.
We’ve been big fans of Andre Anjos’ Remix Artist Collective (RAC) for quite a time now. But for real yo, this might be our favorite remix of his to ever hit our ears. I guess it probably also has something to do with the awesomeness of Anamanaguchi itself. This fearsome foursome makes some killer tunes using lots of 8-bit sounds from some sort of hacked nintendo and gameboy. And you can definitely hear it in the tunes.
As someone who’s tried and failed numerous times to write any sort of musical lick worth repeating, I’ve got to say I’m pretty impressed with Brooklyn band Paul and the Patients who’ve embarked on a journey to write a song a week for a whole year. Now, surely there are others out there on similar quests, but in many cases, quantity comes before quality. In this case, however, it seems that quality and quantity coexist in a world of catchy but not cheesy tunes.
Oh Land is the musical project of the beautiful and talented Nanna Øland Fabricius by way of Copenhagen, Denmark. I’m talking straight up classic beauty too. And this classic beauty is the perfect compliment to her music, which is slightly electronic at times, but all with an underlying je ne sais quoi that makes it feel timeless and fresh. And leave it to Yuksek to take this timeless tune and give it the slow burn treatment, bending time signatures and melodies, but in the end making sure that Nanna’s clean and pure voice remains the star of theread more and hear the song

Remixes of the xx in my inbox have been about a dime a dozen for months now, so it’s all the more impressive when I listen to one that is pretty awesome. Such is the case with this LAZRtag remix of “Stars”. Probably the biggest reason this remix is such a smashing success is that Luvtek and Addison have managed to pump up the jams without losing the quintessential minimalist vibe that make the xx who they are. They could have gone huge and over the top, but they showed the restraint necessary to keep this remixread more and hear the song

For the second Saturday afternoon in a row, I finally decide to give a listen to a much hyped brand new track that seems to have the internet abuzz with excitement. Last week, it was Cee-Lo Green, and this week, begrudginly, it’s Kanye West. Well, Kanye West plus a few million other cool people. But for me, the most interesting part about this star-studded track is that, surrounded and unintimidated by the hip-hop powerhouses all around her (not to mention indie powerhouse Bon Iver who, honestly, I wouldn’t have recognized in this track were it not for theread more and hear the song

I can’t exactly find any information about Cosmetics, which might be a result of there not being too much info out there about them, or a result of having a name that is extremely difficult to search.
What’s one of the only things better than one insanely talented and creative Ghostly International artist putting out an atmospheric jam? Well, two of them, of course. Scott Hansen, aka musician Tycho and aka amazing visual artist ISO50. And fellow Ghostly artist Mux Mool has done a mighty fine job of remixing “From Home” as part of the reissue of Tycho’s Past is Prologue EP, released earlier this year. Don’t forget to check out Mux Mool’s Skulltaste as well if you haven’t already, it is mighty worth it.

Call me crazy, but I think the music world, if not the world at large, is a better place with Wild Nothing in it. Jack Tatum’s unique blend of 80s melodies over a chilled out but upbeat backdrop have really made some waves over the past several months with the release of his debut album Gemini, so we are all pretty excited to find out that he’s already releasing the Golden Haze EP in CD, 12″ and ,of course, digitally, each version with it’s own tracklist. Take a listen to the title track below. I especially enjoy theread more and hear the song

Mark Ronson has been putting out some great tunes this year (as always) in advance of his newest album Record Collection coming out next month (remember that killer tune with our girl MNDR?). And my favorite thus far might be this little 2 minute 30 second ditty featuring the spot-on flows of the one and only Ghostface Killah. It’s definitely got a total old school feel which almost instantly reminded my of another old-school flavored track I love, April March‘s “Chick Habit”, which I thankfully was reminded of recently by my girl Gina over at Oneread more and hear the song

I’m not sure if you noticed, but we recently did some housekeeping around here and cleaned things up a bit. We’re kind of looking at this like kicking off our next chapter, whatever that may be. And what better way to kick off our new chapter than with a remix of the very first song we ever posted? It seems extremely appropriate, don’t you think? With their first ever North American shows now under their belt (and we’ve heard some darn good things about them), Empire of the Sun seems to be all over the web these days.read more and hear the song

Despite it’s harsh name, this new tune from Cee-Lo is nothing but upbeat, soulful fun. It’s one of the first tracks we’re hearing from his upcoming album Lady Killer and in some sort of (seemingly successful) attempt to get the song to go a bit viral, lots of us were sent an email with nothing more than a link to this Youtube video. It’s funny how there’s nothing at all happening in this except the worse appearing on screen like some sort of futuristic closed-captioning system, yet at least for me I couldn’t stop watching.
Just last week, Shinichi Osawa put together a fantastic summer mixtape for one of the best music sites out there, Too Many Sebastians, and one of the greatest parts about the mix is that it covers so many different styles of music. The first track on the mix is Osawa’s take on one of our favoritest tracks of all time, the achingly beautiful “These Days” by Velvet Underground partner in crime Nico.
