Even though it’s only been a few weeks since we’ve heard something from Monsieur Adi, it feels like a lot longer, but maybe that’s just because we are usually so smitten by anything he puts together. Lucky for us, he’s recently remixed “Make it Better”, the newest single from The Knocks, and it stays true to his form in all of the best ways. The original version is pretty fun with it’s whistled melody throughout the tune (which work great with the high pitched vocals), but as he always does, Monsieur Adi takes it to another level, read more and hear the song

My first exposure to the African dance sounds of Amadou & Mariam was at last summer’s Bonnaroo festival. On day 2, there was an entire tent devoted to the music of Africa and even though I didn’t want to go see the husband and wife duo from Mali, who are both blind and met at Mali’s Institute for the Young Blind, my friends dragged me along, and boy am I glad they did. It was by far one of my favorite shows of the whole festival, and perhaps the most high-energy performance I saw that weekend. They doread more and hear the song

One of my most favorite albums that I’ve picked up as of late has to be the soft but powerful sounds of Gemini, the debut album of Jack Tatum, better known to many of us as Wild Nothing. And it seems I’m not the only one who is feeling this somewhat nostalgic but fresh album. It’s already been named in many mid-year best album of the year lists and has been working its way up mine as well. The lead track “Live in Dreams” is a great representation of the sounds on this album. It’s sort of anread more and hear the song

It’s happened yet again, just as I was about to give up on my inbox, I got to this gem from Our Husband, the project of Aussies Nathaniel Morse and Freya Adele. The song is called “Villages” and it is now playing for the fifth time in a row. I think what I like most about this song is the way it builds up its layers, each more beautiful than the last. It starts out with the main guitar riff, then in comes Nathaniel’s powerful voice, followed by an even more soothing guitar, only to be topped byread more and hear the song

If “December Sunset” is any indication, then Pink + Blue, the debut album of LexiconDon, is not to be missed. I can’t say I know much about the history of Alex Koons and Fabian Ordorica’s project, but based on this track alone I can say that I can’t wait to hear more. “December Sunset” is bright (most overused word on dailybeatz.com) and fresh and we all know that I like a song that adds layer upon layer. But instead of just dropping a multi-level beat on you and expecting you to buy into it, they actually let youread more and hear the song

Just because a track is a few years old, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t see the light of day once it’s time has passed. And such is the case with “Midnight Love”, the house/lounge track from Tennishero, the Swedish duo of Jens Anderrson and Alexander Berg. I would say that compared to it’s percentage of the world’s population, Swedish music is WAY disproportionately more awesome than you would expect based on the numbers alone. “Midnight Love” is the type of song that has a great beat, but that knows it can make you want to dance without tryingread more and hear the song

How bout some ambient Australian electronic tunes today? I recently caught this track by accident and at first thought it was kind of too abstract for me, but then it got really pretty. Really, really pretty. It’s from Tantrums which, much to my surprise, was actually made up of two chicas, Jade McInally and Sarah Phelan. It’s just that typically this sort of electronic music is made by men, so it was pretty cool/refreshing to see some ladies jumping into the game. You can get this and a ton of other tracks (whose weirdness or lack thereof Iread more and hear the song

Yesterday we brought you our conversation with Bear in Heaven, and today we’re happy to share our chat with solo project turned full band Here We Go Magic. Drummer Peter Hale sat down with us at this year’s Pitchfork Festival to shed some light on how the band came to be and where they’re going next.

DB: Thanks for sitting in the heat with us for a few minutes! Have any of you been to Pitchfork Festival before?

PH: No, we haven’t. We’ve played the Pitchfork stage at a few festivals — Primavera and South by Southwest —read more and hear the song

Let’s take a break from my crazy electronic music to hear a nice and catchy and upbeat tune from LA-based singer/songwriter Evan Voytas. The track is called “I Took a Trip on a Plane” and sounds just as light and sunny as that moment when you break through the clouds on a cross country flight and can feel the warm sun shining in for the first time. But unlike a real flight, with this track you don’t have the problem of overheating and being unable to get that little air conditioner to blow its cool air on yourread more and hear the song

Besides catching so many of my favorite bands at the 2010 Pitchfork Fest, I was lucky enough to spend a few minutes talking with a few of them as well. Joe Stickney, drummer from Brooklyn’s psychdelic/futuristic/outerspace-ish rock group Bear in Heaven, took some time to talk with us about the band’s past, present and future.

So have any of you guys been to Pitchfork Fest before?

Nope, this is our first time.

How do you think your set went yesterday?

Day 3. Ah, day 3. You cruel temptress, with your best lineup ever when you know that I barely have the energy left to make it there in the first place. I knew day 3 would be a great and exhausting day, but I don’t think I really had any idea how right I would be. I think I caught a at least a little of every act save 3 or 4 that day and I have the pictures to prove it. Things I learned on day 3 (plus a whole boatload of pictures from day 3):

So I guess Doomtree is this record label/rap crew/hip-hop collective and their resident DJ (not to mention producer and graphic designer. You know, one of those all around talented people that you admire, but whose powers you secretly hate/want) is Paper Tiger, and while Doomtree has some releases out there, Paper Tiger is releasing his first ever solo album entitled Made Like Us. If this first track “The Bully Prank” is any indication, it sounds like this might be a killer album. This track’s just about got it all.
What a weekend. Despite the steamy temps, this was perhaps my favorite of the three Pitchfork Fests I’ve attended. But I figured instead of writing about it, I’d just show you what i saw. Check out about a million pictures from days 1 and 2 after the jump. Later this week, we’ll also be bringing you about a million pictures from day 3 as well as a few interviews we got at the fest as well with some of our favorite bands.

I’ve heard the name Teeth come up quite a bit over the past few weeks. And much to my surprise, all these people were talking about a happenin’ musical, and not the vagina-dentata themed film of the same name. But based on this track, remixed so masterfully by Dreamtrack, I know that this “Teeth” will make me cringe much less, and in fact, even smile. Right out of the gates, the beat carries this one and lets up only enough to build up to its huge drop a few minutes in.
Here’s another gem that arrived in my inbox recently. And it seems we’ve got another Russian entry onto the site thanks to Upstation courtesy of their great reworking of London’s Zoot Woman who is not a woman at all, but rather the British electronic band made up of Adam Blake, Stuart Price and Johnny Blake. Besides adding a great beat, Upstation really kicks it up a notch giving their remix a much jazzier flavor than the original. It seems to have much of the same flavor as the other Russian act we’ve posted here (at least theread more and hear the song

With all of the massive amounts of music I’ve absorbed, loved and hated this year, one thing that always seems to get me is glitchy electronic music. I don’t know what it is…maybe it’s the fact that everything sounds raw and spontaneous, even though I know each bloop and bleep has been carefully and strategically placed, but it never fails to catch my attention. Today, LA’s Will Wiesenhall aka Baths is the glitch meistro du jour. His debut album Cerulean was released a few months back and based on the tracks I’ve heard so far, “Aminals” is perhapsread more and hear the song

Despite the millions of “Bulletproof” remixes out there, I’ve never posted one, so I think it’s around about time I change that, especially considering how holy cow this one is. I can’t say I’ve ever given La Roux a fair chance, but all my friends seem to be fans and everyone who saw her at Coachella said she was one of their highlights, so she must be doing something right. Four piece live electro pop band/DJ crew Glasnost turned up the heat on this already dance-worthy track on its head with one of the more high-energy remixesread more and hear the song

It’s time for another edition of the remix roundup! Today, we’re going to focus on a few remixes I’ve gotten in the inbox that were just taken to places that I never would have even dreamed based on the originals. Now, I know what you’re thinking. A remix roundup? Really? You post a remix just about every day. Well, that just may be so. But in this case, these remixes are so shockingly different from their originals that they just had to go together. So deal wit’ it.

Remember last week when I posted that killer slow jam Wave Machines remix? Well today I’m happy to bring you another slow jam on that same level. But this time it’s HEALTH that’s getting the treatment courtesy of Baron von Luxxury.
Are you surprised that I’m posting a real-life song and not another remix? Me too! When the mood hits you, it just hits you. Drivan is the project of Swedes Kim Hiorthøy, Lisa Östberg and Louise Peterhoff and Kristiina Viiala of Finland. “Det gör ingenting” is the first track released from Drivan’s debut album Disko, released on 8/18 and if you are a fan of Scandinavian quasi-minimalist electronic tunes, you need to listen to this one.
If you visit any of the largest music blogs around town (which I would surmise at least a few of you do), you’ve no doubt heard about Florida native Mike Diaz, more recognizable as dreamy electronic artist MillionYoung. Appearing on the web last fall seemingly out of nowhere with his Sunndreamm EP and going strong ever since, MillionYoung is becoming an artist to watch this year. He’s currently on tour and took a few moments to answer a couple of questions for us.

How did you first start making music? Did it start out as a hobby orread more and hear the song

This weekend we will be heading to Chicago for our third consecutive Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park. There are so many reasons this fest is so great especially when compared to the other huge fests I’ve gone to in the past.

Maybe one of the best parts of the fest is the ratio of big name acts to the small size of the festival grounds. There are only 3 stages at this fest, 2 of them being right next to one another, and a third just a 5 minute walk away. And there’s really only music goingread more and hear the song

It’s taken some time to grow on me, but I’m starting to come around to High Violet, the latest album by The National. But one of the tracks that I’ve absolutely loved since first listen is “Afraid of Everyone”. I think I’ve said it before, but while I think the happy, slow tempo version of The National is all fine and well, I think it’s their darker side where they really are at their finest. I think it’s because I think lead singer Matt Berninger’s deeper than the BP oil well voice (too soon?) just fits so wellread more and hear the song

As you may recall from our album review of Jason Amm aka Solvent‘s latest album Subject to Shift, we rather like the blips and bleeps of this album and it’s been getting some good play in our rotation as of late. And the lead single “Loss For Words”, a tale of the trials and tribulations of computer love, is one of the highlights. Fortunately for us, Solvent himself has given the track a more upbeat remix, so now there are even more ways to enjoy this tune. That’s never a bad thing. Check out the video withread more and hear the song
