It’s here! In celebration of our THIRD blogiversary (which is actually on May 17), we’ve put together our third edition of the wildly popular Blogwave Summer mixtape series. Each spring, we ask 20 or so of our favorite blog friends to each send us a summer jam. Then we extremely crudely mix it all together and share it with you. Our friends at Cascine have done it again. And by “it”, I mean that they’ve sent me an email with a song. Which means the song will be awesome and I will post it. This time its from Ditt Inre from Stockholm. Have I mentioned before that Sweden consistently pumps out my favorite music? This track in particular sort of reminds me of what the first Washed Out album might have sounded like if I liked it more and it had less chillwave and more beats. It’s been a while since we made any sort of a mix. In fact, I think it’s been since way back last summer when we spur of the moment made that Relajado mix for all of your relaxation needs. But then the good folks at ex.fm asked us to make their May monthly mix tape and we happily obliged. This mix has no theme, and it’s not really a “mix” so much as a playlist. Lianne La Havas – Forget (Shlohmo Remix)

One of the names that I’ve started to hear being thrown around about town is Lianne La Havas. Apparently she is some awesome British and/or European artist with a super sexy and soulful vocals. Old friend Shlohmo does what he does with her track “Forget” with his understated beats to turn this into the chillout song of the day/week/month/year. This might be the perfect representation of the type of stuff I’m most into at this moment in time. It’s Monday morning. My likely last Coachella has come to a close. And now we continue to lay by the pool for 2 more days before returning home to reality. So now is the time where we talk about highlights. For me, highlights were probably M83 and St. Vincent. So You’re Going to Coachella – 2012 Edition

It’s here! Despite the questionable but apparently easily profitable decision to extend Coachella to 2 weekends with identical lineups (a feat I doubted could ever actually take place), the multi-weekend Coachella festival is upon us. This is my third consecutive Coachella and likely my last as it’s just too expensive to get there from the Midwest and in my slightly older age I’ve taken to exploring the more boutique festivals out there (a la ATP fests, etc). Solar Bears – Cosmic Runner

Is anyone else the most excited for the eventually upcoming new album from Solar Bears? We first heard the stunning “Alpha People” back in January and were surprised with another taste in the form of the appropriately named “Cosmic Runner” and all I want is more. This one’s vocals-free and a lot more in your face than “Alpha People” with some slightly darker undertones and melodies, but there is no doubt that the two tracks are of the same lineage. Wild Belle – Keep You

For only having two tracks out, Wild Belle, the Chicago brother and sister duo of Natalie and Elliot Bergman, has certainly made quite an impression to everyone at SXSW. Maybe I’m just ready for summer but “Keep You” perfectly combines that Jamaican rock-steady with cushioned dream-pop and I can literally listen to this again and again. All I know is I want more! Wild Belle will be touring with Tennis starting this month so check them out in a town near you.

Dive – How Long Have You Known

With each new Dive song I hear, I’m drawn in more and more. Maybe there’s just something about guitars that are just the perfect amount of hazy and tunes that never stop for a break and just keep pushing forward. It’s 11AM as I write this, and it’s hit me that Dive might be my new favorite morning music. Feel like this could be the perfect soundtrack for breakfast any day ever, but can also transition into some nice evening music when the volume is cranked up a bit. Daedelus – Curtains Don’t Talk

Daedelus is a G among Gs. In fact, he’s one of the monome OGs. I was lucky enough to interview him at last year’s Movement Fest right here in Detroit and found that he’s also one of the nicest people ever, in addition to making and mixing the bitchingest tunes on either side of the Mason Dixon Line. I don’t know where that is, for the record. He just made this song for Mixmag and I think it’s a little bit hot.

It was just last night that I found myself wondering when I would get some awesome lo-fi music in 2012. Granted, I’ve been super awful at keeping up with anything this year (well, partially by choice, because I just can’t), but I felt like last year had so much great lo-fi music (a la Puro Instinct, John Maus, etc) and I haven’t found much of that this year. S. Carey – Two Angles

I hadn’t given much of my attention to the works of S. Carey, probably most notably known as the drummer of the Bon Iver gang of rabble rousers, but it turns out he’s got a good thing going all on his own. He’s releasing the Hoyas EP on May 8 and we’ve gotten to hear the opening track “Two Angles”, a slower number that becomes more and more atmospheric and consequently beautiful as it goes on. Does anyone love surprise horns in a song more than I do? I doubt it.

Becoming Real – Snow Drift Love

Since we hold ourselves to a high standard of diversity, let’s move from Australian psych rock to UK beats. After hearing “Snow Drift Love”, a new track from Toby Ridler’s Becoming Real out of South London, it’s not much of a surprise to learn that he opened some shows for SBTRKT late last year. It just occurred to me that I forgot another one of my major SXSW fanboy moments (It seems I had more than I first thought). The first night of music, we hit up I can’t remember which showcase at Club DeVille (I ended up there four nights/days last week so they all kind of blur together) and one of the bands playing was Pond. If you aren’t familiar with Pond, it’s a quasi side project from two of the members of Tame Impala along with a few others. One thing I hardly ever do is listen to mixes. CSLSX & I Break Horses – Violent Sea

As we’ve posted both groups in the past, it wasn’t hard to imagine that this track would be a winner. Philly’s CSLSX is the SX, and I Break Horses put out my favorite album in 2011 that I forgot to include in my favorite albums. AKA I forgot about it and have been listening to it nonstop for a week. And I get to see them open for M83 AND play at ATP I’ll Be Your Mirror this fall. So clearly when they join forces, great things like “Voilent Sea” happen. . When I found out that Talabot was from Barcelona, it only added to my enjoyment since I’m a bit obsessed with that place.
