I’ve been watching a lot of Amazon lately. Not on the computer but on TV.
All because of Roku. I originally thought that a Roku was some sort of fuzzy animal from South America. It’s actually a device that connects to the internet. Through dozens of Roku channels, you can select television shows and movies to watch.
Pretty cool. And pretty economical. I cut the cord to cable years ago because I didn’t want to pay for all those channels I didn’t watch. This way, I pick exactly what I want to watch. Many channels are free, though the selection may be limited.
Amazon is one of the channels with thousands of live streaming videos to choose from. With an Amazon Prime membership, many shows are free. Most new TV episodes and movie releases cost $1.99.
Even without joining Prime, the videos are still available for instant purchase. That’s how I watched Downton Abbey. And now I am hooked on the series.
A year of Prime membership costs $79, and a Roku starts at $49.98 for the basic version, on up to $99. That’s less than a typical monthly cable bill.
 
Lights Out
Storms this week caused a power outage at my place. We got off easy compared to many places. It gave me a new appreciate for my Kindle Fire. Even though I couldn’t read a print book in the dark, I could read perfectly fine on the Fire with its own light and long battery.
Thank goodness because I couldn’t watch TV through Roku without power.
