This is one of those high-impact, sophisticated fashion stories that AOC loves. In the shot above — Aylah Peterson’s eyes, the tilt of her head and face is both honest and compelling. In the text for this story by Jack Moss, he gives high praise to Blazy being so attuned to his clients, which are primarily women.

Blazy has said — probably in the notes for the A/W 2026 show with the caterpillar and the butterfly —

Love Us and Loathe Us

I’ve often said that there are three kinds of gay guys in luxury fashion: 1] men who basically loathe us, but we come in handy as the muse and VIC, and 2] men who truly love women. I’d say the ratio is about 2:1 in the loathe us: love us ratio. And there’s a group of great guys in the middle, who may not be gay at all, and they never sneer at us, when we’re not in the room. Group #1 sneers. Think the Italian futurists.

Tom Ford, hands down, is at the top of the “love us list” of designers. Marc Jacobs is up there as well, and his clothes often had sex appeal at Louis Vuitton. But Matthieu Blazy is reinventing the relationship between the designer and the client on a grand scale — in the world of male designers.

The fashion story takes us to Ladakh, which was never an isolated mountain kingdom; it was the vibrant pulse point of the Trans-Himalayan Silk Road from as early as the 2nd century BCE. Its primary town, Leh, acted as a massive commercial hub where the trade routes of Central Asia, South Asia, and Tibet converged.

Traders coming from China, India, and Persia had to navigate the brutal high-altitude passes of the Karakoram range and the Zoji La pass to reach Ladakh. Oasis settlements and villages in Ladakh’s high-altitude desert survived by operating as caravanserais [resting stops]. Here, exhausted traders swapped pack animals—exchanging horses and yaks for Central Asian Bactrian camels—while purchasing food, shelter, and fodder.

Matthieu Blazy’s Hard Stop

Blazy’s women are so on the move — much like Coco Chanel herself or Chanel’s fabulous CEO Leena Nair — that being suspended in stillness, even lying motionless on black sand — they are out-of-predicted behavior mode.

AOC’s Mycelium Man outsmarts us with a hard stop. I know; I know. Here she goes again with the mushrooms. Get used to it.

Nature’s underground mycelium network is always on my mind; as is Maria Grazia Chiuri’s ‘Less I, More Us’. It’s the absolute opposite view from the Sun King’s perspective.

Blazy’s entire process is so horizontal and so is Leena Nair’s, that I had to ask AI a technical question about volcanic sand, rock and ash.

Somehow, I knew the answer before I asked the question. Is that black sand truly inert — or could the Mycelium Man magically bring it to life?

A New Challenge: Her Little Lucci

The supermodel mother of three boys was recently toasting her favorite bottle of Lambrusco, calling it her fourth child, her little Lucci.

Graham is the founder of Lucci Lambrusco [IG] and she’s very serious about learning the art of winemaking.

Her journey to the unveiling of her fourth ‘young love’ started with a common classic modern move. “I ended up DMing a fifth-generation winemaker in Emilia-Romagna, Italy,” she explains, referring to the northern Italian region where authentic Lambrusco is produced.

Graham told the Miami New Times that her Lambrusco is very different from the too sweet version that was America’s most popular wine in the ‘80s. “It’s dry, it’s acidic, and it’s semi-secco.”

Could It Be That Model Natalia Montero Is Finally Getting Her Flowers? AOC Fashion

Harper’s Bazaar Colombia [IG] makes its fashion magazine debut to major applause for their cover model Natalia Montero and her story in this first issue. Watching Montero’s videos on IG, she moves like a ‘60s-’70s model — which bares almost no relationship with today’s models, who seem to just stand there, more often than not.

Natalia Montero is a big wow. How she moves is a big wow. How she looks is an even bigger wow. All of a sudden, we have Awar Odhiang closing Chanel’s SS2026 show last October, running around the stage with her arms flung open. Then Bhavitha Mandava becoming a Chanel ambassador in record speed, bringing her sophisticated beauty and positivity — okay, joy — and now Natalia Montero is making a big impression.

Montero is not a new girl. She was featured by Porter Edit February 2019 in The New Guard. Also in ‘Neutral Suiting’, appearing with Saidou Diallo in WSJ Magazine and ‘White Nights’ for Vogue UK December 2018. For reasons that make little sense to me — except that rich people often see smiling as associated with low class — Montero hasn’t had the backing AOC believes she deserves.

Purity of Form in Luxury Fashion

In luxury fashion, the Italian concept of purity of form [purezza delle forme] refers to a design philosophy focused on impeccable tailoring, architectural lines, and the removal of unnecessary ornamentation to let the silhouette and material speak for themselves.

It is the art of achieving maximum visual impact through ultimate restraint. Giorgio Armani is widely considered to be the pioneer of modern Italian minimalism.

Considering ‘purity of form’ enters the fashion dialogue at the same time AOC is deeply immersed in a study of Italian futurism. Setting aside the ideological planks of Italian Futurism — including its deep disdain for women — it seems that these two concepts are connected functionally.

After years of being attacked in the Parisian theater of Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri has stripped away everything that can be weaponized against her. Chiuri has left the critics with nothing to look at but the flawless, undeniable geometry of Italian construction.

The Looming Threat of Civilizationism

At AOC this is an unfolding conversation we are observing and discussing without any preordained conclusions. It’s a big piece of analysis in a much larger puzzle called civilizationism.

In June [2026], China issued a white paper titled ‘More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China’s Principles, Proposals and Actions. It stands as a rebuke of civilizationism and its frequent embrace of Eurocentric identity as the gold standard for human development.

This conflict will absolutely impact the success of luxury brands in China and Southeast Asia. It may not resonate particularly well in America either, where new research from McKinsey and BoF cites the importance of personal values as the #2 item on the checklist of American VIC’s.

Sharing this Vogue China fashion story was impacted by an excellent weekend story in The New York Times, ‘The Comforting Resurgence of ‘Grandma Hobbies’ [gifted 30-day link]. Written by Kate Brennan, with photography and video by Lindsey Makuwatsine, the article opens in Traverse City, Michigan at the Green Door Folk School, which opened in 2024.

Millennials and Gen Z make up the majority of the students, mostly local but also arriving from distant places like New York City, with Airbnb units on the property. The article references as well the John C. Campbell Folk School, the oldest folk school in the country, located in North Carolina and the Ely Folk School in Minnesota.
