Here’s what happened to 4 of our DailyMuscle members last week:

One member’s husband is undergoing stem cell treatment. She hasn’t been able to make it to her usual morning workouts for 2 weeks.

Another fell victim to a scam and lost a significant amount of money.

A third got posted further away for work and had to completely change her routine and start over with new evening classes.

Another client got married

Now here’s the part that made me pause…

Despite all that, guess how each of them showed up?

The first one texts to say she misses class and asks for workouts to do so she can keep moving at home when she has time.

The second made it work despite her financial crisis (we told her not to worry about her fee this month) — and she still came to class and left feeling better each time.

The third? She didn’t say “this is too hard.” She just said, “Let’s try evenings and make it work.” And she did (and made some new friends in the process).

The fourth client? She got married on a Tuesday and showed up for her workout as usual on Saturday morning as if nothing special happened… legend… cos it was already her routine.

Most people wait for “the right time” to start.

But these women are living proof: there is no perfect time.

There’s just now.

And I get it — life gets messy. But if you wait for it to be easy, you’ll be waiting a long time.

Some of you have been waiting.. and it’s been more than 10 years… and it doesn’t get any easier the longer you wait.

I often say this to the clients I work with:
The hardest part isn’t the workout. It’s starting… or starting again.

And once you do… momentum takes over.

That’s why the ones who see real change aren’t always the fittest or strongest.

They’re the ones who show up, even on the hard days… and especially on the hard days.

Always cheering you on,

Noel Chelliah
DailyMuscle LightHouse
Helping people who hate gyms find a fitness home they love.

P.S : If this speaks to you, if you’ve been “meaning to start again” or “waiting for the right moment” Our next 6-Week Challenge is currently open for early-bird enrollment. My team and I will personally hand-hold you as you kicktart this new fitness journey.

If you’re ready to enroll, you can LEARN MORE here.

No pressure. No judgment.
Just a simple way to reset your momentum — one small, powerful step at a time.

**Past participants and existing clients qualify for a special rate (ask us!)

This is not the sexiest health/fitness topic but I needed to share a disturbing trend now sweeping through Malaysia.

… arriving from Hollywood to Malaysia : people using the diabetes drug Ozempic to lose weight.

If you’ve been scrolling fitness content on your socials… you’re probably seeing what I’m seeing too – Ozempic… Wegovy.. Saxenda pushed by doctors with questionable fitness/exercise and weightloss experience … seemingly selling these meds like it’s candy.

Some clinics are even allowing you to purchase them online with a quick simple online consultation.

What is Ozempic, Saxenda and how does it help with weight loss?

Ozempic is a once-weekly injectable medication to help adults with type 2 diabetes manage their blood sugar.

Ozempic helps with weight loss in a number of ways, from how full you feel to what you feel like eating… it also slows down digestion, keeping food in your stomach for longer, also makes you feel full sooner, so your appetite decreases and you eat less food.

Ozempic might also interact with your brain’s food reward system: in addition to telling your brain that you feel full, Ozempic may affect how you feel about different foods, such as reducing your enjoyment of high-fat foods.

Imagine losing the desire to eat your fav greasy, carb-loaded treat… would that be a good or bad thing for you?

Although not officially a weight loss drug, people who take Ozempic may lose modest amounts of weight while on the medication.

Due to a Wegovy shortage coupled with Ozempic’s weight loss effects going viral on social media, people without type 2 diabetes have begun using Ozempic off-label for weight loss.

Now combine this with us Asians and our obsession with slimming centers, slimming massages, SlimDoc, Fat freezing etc… we are suckers for anything that promises easy and ‘effortless’ weightloss… you can already imagine how many people are already on these.. and hopefully doing it correctly.

Is this cheating?

Now whether getting help via meds is right or wrong, I’m not here to judge. I do know that there are people out there who’s only option to bring their weight down is this… and they’ve dropped their weight significantly and improved their health – WIN!

At the same time… there’s also perfectly healthy adults who take it purely for vanity reasons, lazy to make lifestyle changes and prefer a quick-fix approach. Questionable.

Ozempic and weightloss – the missing link

Either way… so many are doing these meds without considering the importance of exercise in the equation.

Maintaining and building muscle mass while taking Ozempic is SUPER-important!! This is where resistance training comes in because the weight loss promoted by Ozempic takes an aggressive hit to your lean muscle mass.

In any sensible weightloss program… the goal is to lose bodyfat and preserve as much lean muscle mass as possible. (strength training signals your body to hold on to your precious muscle).

Skipping the exercise component altogether will likely lead to loss of muscle mass at the same or greater rate than fat mass, which has scary consequences for your health and longevity.

And you can’t really blame your doctor.. because majority (not all) doctors don’t have the knowledge to start you on a fitness / resistance training program.

If you (or someone you know) are on these meds and need help finding a program that supports your goals, my team can help you.

Meds or no meds, always cheering you on!

Noel
Team Lead @ DailyMuscle

PS: Curious to get started with us?

We have a number of ways we can work with you based on your goals and budget.
We also have a no commitment trial if you just want to give us a sample.

To learn more, schedule a call with a coach HERE.

In the landscape of modern weight management, GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro have revolutionized the approach to battling obesity and type 2...

In the landscape of modern weight management, GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro have revolutionized the approach to battling obesity and type 2 diabetes. These drugs, which act by mimicking a hormone that makes you feel fuller sooner and longer, have seen a surge in popularity thanks to their effectiveness. However, a critical component often overlooked in the conversation about these medications is the importance of integrating exercise to counteract potential side effects such as muscle loss.

Understanding the Impact of GLP-1 Medications

While medications like Ozempic are praised for their ability to help patients shed pounds, they can also lead to decreased muscle mass, an unintended consequence that might compromise overall health and metabolism. This is where exercise comes into play. Physical activity, particularly strength training, is crucial as it helps maintain and even build muscle mass, ensuring that your body remains strong and your metabolism stays active.

The Benefits of a Specialized Fitness Program

At DailyMuscle, we recognize the unique challenges faced by individuals on these medications. That’s why we’ve launched a special fitness program tailored specifically for users of GLP-1 medications. Our program is designed to complement the pharmacological effects of these drugs, ensuring that you lose weight in a healthy and balanced manner.

Here’s what our program offers:

Personalized Exercise Regimens: Understanding that everyone’s body responds differently to medication, our coaches will create a personalized workout plan that caters to your specific needs and goals.

Strength Training Focus: To combat muscle loss associated with medication, our program places a significant emphasis on strength training. This not only helps in preserving muscle mass but also aids in increasing it, which is vital for maintaining a healthy metabolic rate.

Habit-based Coaching: We believe in empowering our clients for long-term success. Our program includes habit coaching to help you develop and maintain healthy lifestyle choices that extend beyond the duration of medication use.

Community Support: Weight loss journeys can be challenging, AND you don’t have to do it alone. Plug into our community support system where you can connect with others who are on similar paths. Sharing experiences and tips can make your journey more enjoyable and sustainable.

Why Exercise Should Be a Core Component

Exercise isn’t just about aiding in weight loss; it’s about enhancing the quality of life. Regular physical activity improves cardiovascular health, boosts mood, enhances sleep quality, and increases energy levels.

Losing weight and staying healthy can sometimes feel like a puzzle, especially for women in their 30s and 40s who are managing work, family, and personal time. Recently, many have started talking about new helpers in the weight loss world—medications like Saxenda, Ozempic, and Semaglutide. Now also available in Malaysia with a doctor’s note (and fast gaining popularity) and with options nowadays to get a prescription discreetly online, these medicines are becoming popular choices for those who find diet and exercise alone aren’t cutting it.

A Quick Look at Saxenda, Ozempic, and Semaglutide

These medications work by making you feel fuller, longer, cutting down on those pesky cravings and helping you eat less. They’re a part of a newer set of tools for those finding it tough to lose weight through diet and exercise alone. But remember, they’re not magic pills; they’re more like a hand holding yours as you walk the path to better health.

Why Exercise Still Matters

Even with these medications, moving your body remains key. Exercise isn’t just about helping the medication do its job; it’s about keeping your muscles strong, your heart happy, and your energy levels up. Plus, it’s a fantastic mood booster. In our sunny Malaysian climate, finding fun ways to stay active is also a great chance to enjoy the outdoors or find a cool, new class to join.

Work with a Personal Trainer/Coach That Understands Your Unique Needs with these Meds

We get it; life’s hectic. That’s where our small-group training sessions come in. so you get personalized coaching without having to pay the prices of personal training.

Also, knowing that you’re here to train while on these meds will allow us to tailor your program to help you see the best results while you’re undergoing treatment.

They’re a perfect mix of getting that personal attention you need to stay on track and the fun of a group setting. It doesn’t matter where you’re starting from; we’ve got something for everyone. These classes are a fantastic way to make sure you’re getting the most out of your effort, keeping those muscles toned, and actually enjoying the journey with friends who get it.

Responsible Use of Weight Loss Medication

As Saxenda, Ozempic, and Semaglutide become more accessible in Malaysia, it’s vital to approach their use with a mindset focused on health rather than mere aesthetics. These medications are intended for individuals dealing with obesity and related health concerns, not for those seeking minor weight adjustments for vanity reasons. Misuse can lead to adverse effects and undermines the purpose of these medical advancements.

In Malaysia, obtaining these medications requires a doctor’s prescription, ensuring that their use is monitored and tailored to each individual’s health profile. Consulting with a healthcare professional is the first step towards understanding whether these options are suitable for you, ensuring your weight loss journey is both safe and effective.

DailyMuscle Understands Your Weightloss Journey with Medication and We’re Here To Support You!

Our gym is so much more than a place to sweat; it’s a community where we’re all cheering for each other. Whether you’re thinking about medication-assisted weight loss or looking for supportive, fun exercise classes, we’re here with open arms. Our small-group training and group classes is all about finding joy in movement and sharing the journey with others who understand the ups and downs.

Losing weight and getting fit isn’t just about the numbers on a scale; it’s about feeling good, having more energy to play with your kids, and fitting in that ‘me’ time in a way that makes you smile. Whether you’re exploring medications like Saxenda, Ozempic, and Semaglutide, or just looking for a friendly place to start getting more active, we’re here to help you find your balance, your strength, and your happy place in fitness.

Effective fitness doesn't require hours at the gym. The key is finding the right balance that fits your lifestyle and fitness level

As a busy mom in her 30s or 40s, you might be wondering how you can fit a beneficial workout into your packed schedule. You’re not alone, and the good news is that effective fitness doesn’t require hours at the gym. The key is finding the right balance that fits your lifestyle and fitness level, especially if you’re someone who might be a bit hesitant about traditional, hardcore gym routines.

Understanding Your Ideal Workout Duration

The magic of fitness is that it’s highly personal, and there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to how long your workouts should be. Whether you’re looking to stay active, lose weight, or gain some muscle, the length of your workouts can vary based on your personal goals and daily life’s demands.

For many of us, especially those balancing work and family, a workout around 30 to 60 minutes can be a sweet spot. This timeframe allows for a comprehensive session that includes a warm-up, targeted exercise, and a cool-down, ensuring you’re taking care of your body without overwhelming your schedule. Remember, it’s not about spending hours in the gym but about making the most of your time there.

Tailoring Workouts to Your Needs

It’s understandable if the thought of fitting even a 30-minute workout into your busy day seems daunting. That’s where the beauty of flexibility and personalization comes in. Our gym celebrates all fitness levels and offers a variety of group workouts and small-group personal training options. These sessions are designed to maximize your time, focusing on effective exercises that cater to beginners and those who prefer a gentler approach to fitness.

The Importance of Workout Intensity

How hard you work out can also play a significant role in how long your sessions need to be. High-intensity workouts can be shorter but still offer significant benefits, perfect for those days when time is tight but you want to get the most bang for your buck. Our coaches are here to guide you through finding the right intensity level that challenges you without pushing you too far, ensuring a positive and rewarding experience.

Embracing Professional Guidance

If you’re unsure where to start or how to fit effective workouts into your busy life, professional guidance can make all the difference. Our friendly trainers are here to help you create a workout plan that respects your time constraints and personal goals. With our free consultations, we’ll work together to tailor a program that feels just right, making our gym a welcoming space for those who might not usually feel at home in a traditional gym setting.

Remember, our gym is for people who don’t like gyms. It’s a place where your fitness journey is respected and supported, regardless of your starting point. Let’s find the perfect workout length and routine that brings joy, health, and balance into your life.

I always tell my clients that the hardest part of the fitness journey is to start – so if you’re ready to take that step… my team and I are right here for you!

Noel

PS: Curious to get started with us? We have a number of ways we can work with you based on your goals and budget.

Many people want to lose fat—so will weight training help them do it? Yes! Lifting weights is a great way to burn fat, but here’s...

Many people want to lose fat—so will weight training help them do it?

Yes!

Lifting weights is a great way to burn fat, but here’s something else to consider first:

Many people want to lose fat so they look toned and their muscles are more visible. The look they’re going for usually requires fat loss as well as a little muscle building. You build muscle through weight training. So if you have aesthetic goals, weight training is going to be a great tool for you.

Now don’t get me wrong: 30 minutes of cardiovascular training—running, cycling, rowing, swimming etc.—will burn more calories than 30 minutes of weight training.

For example, an online calorie-burning calculator estimates that a 180-lb. person will burn 410 calories through 30 minutes of cycling at moderate intensity. The same calculator estimates that the same person would burn 246 calories through 30 minutes of vigorous weight training.

So conditioning activities are definitely part of a fat-loss plan and we make sure we prescribe them to clients who want to reduce body fat.

But here are two important things to remember about weight training.

Weight Training Builds Muscle

Muscle is “expensive” to maintain. That means a muscular 70kg. person will burn more calories at rest than a 70kg person who has very little muscle. Fat doesn’t burn a lot of energy, but muscle does. So if you add a little muscle to your frame, you’ll increase your “resting metabolism.” That means you’ll burn more calories simply by being alive.

The number of extra calories burned over the course of a day isn’t extreme, but it’s still significant. Researcher Christopher Wharton estimated 10 lb. of muscle would use up 50 calories on a day without training, while 10 lb. of fat would use just 20. The numbers add up fast: If two people weigh the exact same but one has 30 lb. more muscle, that person will burn 90 calories more during the day than the person without the muscle.

So adding muscle means you’ll burn more calories without doing anything—that’s a huge deal when it comes to losing fat.

And here’s another important consideration: If you don’t use resistance training during a weight-loss program, there’s a risk that you might lose muscle, too. Almost no one wants to lose hard-earned muscle, so resistance training is important to help preserve as much lean tissue as possible while you drop fat.

You Burn Calories After Weight Training—Not Just During

This is especially true if you work out with intensity.

When you train your body hard, it burns calories as you move. But it continues to burn calories after you stop because your body is working to refuel and recover from training stress. You might hear someone use the term “excess post-exercise oxygen consumption” (EPOC). In simple terms, it means your metabolism is elevated as your body works to recover.

This recovery process burns calories and it can continue for up to 16 to 38 hours after training. Some studies suggest that period can be even longer. So doing the right (strength training) workout is really an investment and you’ll reap additional rewards over the next day or so.

Some styles of weight training generate greater effects after the workout than others and conditioning activities can also generate a post-exercise calorie burn. It all comes down to the exact activities and the intensity at which they’re performed.

Work With a Coach

Don’t do fitness alone..

Figuring out the perfect plan for fat loss can be challenging for the average person, but an experienced coach can help you out.

At our gym, we meet with clients to find out their goals and then prescribe the best plan to achieve them – everybody runs their ‘own race’.

If your goal is fat loss, you’ll probably receive a program that involves a mix of weight training and conditioning to ensure you move forward as fast as possible.

All our training programs are beginner-friendly.

We’ll also help you schedule in your workouts with our trainers, and help you navigate the intensity level that is right for you. Finally, we’ll monitor your results and adjust the plan regularly so you’re always getting closer to your goals.

But rest assured that the ultimate fat-loss plan will include some resistance training (hence all our training sessions has this component). It’s a key activity if you want to increase muscle tone and reduce your body-fat percentage.

So does lifting weights help you lose fat? Absolutely— it’s just one piece of the puzzle.

Coach Noel
Team Lead @ DailyMuscle

PS: Curious to get started with us?

We have a number of ways we can work with you based on your goals and budget.
We also have a no commitment trial if you just want to give us a sample.

To learn more, schedule a call with a coach HERE.

If you work out regularly all year, rest assured that you will not lose all your momentum if you miss a few workouts over the holidays.

If you work hard all year to develop your “fitness habit,” you might get a little nervous during the holiday season.

Will you lose your momentum?

Will your cardiovascular fitness suffer?

Will you get weaker?

Will you gain weight?

We get questions like that all the time as the end of December approaches. Here are the answers!

Habits and Science

Habits can be hard to break. That’s a bad thing when you’re talking about bad habits, but it’s great when you’re dealing with healthy habits. You have a long-term fitness habit, and it’s unbreakable.

If you work out regularly all year, rest assured that you will not lose all your momentum if you miss a few workouts over the holidays.

And you probably won’t lose any physical progress at all. The truth is that V02 max—one measure of aerobic fitness—decreases about 4 or 5 percent after about 10 days if you stop training completely. Strength and muscle mass start to decrease after two to four weeks of inactivity.

All that is great news.

First, I know you aren’t going to be inactive over the holidays. Even if you train half as much, you aren’t quitting cold turkey, so you shouldn’t expect to lose any progress.

Second, the holiday period usually runs from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2 or so. That’s just 10 days. So your strength and muscle are more than safe, and if you throw in a few workouts, your conditioning is very safe, too.

As for weight gain, WebMD.com reported that research published in the Journal of Obesity shows the average holiday weight gain is about 0.5 to 1KG… not too bad.

But remember this: You aren’t average. You focus on health and fitness, and you don’t have to gain any weight at all. Yes, some people are off work and don’t work out or move much over the holidays. They sit on the couch and nap after huge meals, and they snack a lot. And they drink too much. All of that can result in weight gain.

But people who have a few great meals with family but stay active can expect to maintain their weight. A hearty meal or two won’t cause instant weight gain, the same way a protein shake doesn’t instantly add rippling muscle to your arms.

The Best Plan

You should enjoy the holidays, and if that means you miss a few workouts, don’t sweat it.

But I don’t want you to break any habits or start feeling worried, so do this: Plan to get in at least two or three workouts between Dec. 23 and Jan. 3. They can be “official gym workouts” or just something simple at your home or the park nearby. We like asking our clients to take easy 30-min walks – and they love how easy this is.

The important thing: Plan these workouts. Put them on the calendar so you do them.

In between workouts, plan two or three “activities.” They can be as simple as walking around the taman to look at lights or heading to the local park for a hike. Put these things on the calendar, too.

If you have big meals on the schedule, eat veggies and lower-fat options in the other meals that day. Eat nutritious food on the days after you feast.

Stick to this plan and enjoy yourself. Don’t worry about a meal or a cookie or lost fitness. You can look at the calendar and realize you’ve programmed six activities in 12 days, and you’ll feel better. And you’ll realize you’re eating nutritious food regularly, too.

People run into trouble when they think, “I haven’t worked out in weeks!” That can set a person back and kill momentum. But if you can always say “I did something for my health just the other day,” you’ll never feel like you’re losing steam.

Don’t worry: A day off or two won’t harm your fitness, and if you stick to my plan, you’ll carry a ton of momentum into your new year.

Here's some thoughts about navigating the year-end holidays without feeling like you’re depriving yourself or 'throwing-away' your fitness!

Hey there, kawan-kawan! As we gear up for the festive season and year-end holidays here in Malaysia, with all its glorious makan and get-togethers, I’m here to share some tips to help you stay healthy while still enjoying the season.

Balance is Key: Feasting ‘in Moderation’

We Malaysians love our festivities and the delicious spread that comes with it. And we Malaysians show our love and connection THROUGH food! So it’s really not practical to ask anyone to ‘refrain’ from enjoying some of these holiday treats.

However… the key is to keep it balanced. Sure, indulge in your holiday favourites, but don’t forget your daily dose of healthier choices. If you had some good nasi lemak for breakfast, balance it out and get back on track with your next meal (instead of turning it into a slippery slope and ‘abandoning’ the rest of the meals for the day.

Plan Your Indulgences and Savour Them

Festive seasons are special, and so is the food. It’s more than just eating; it’s sometimes tradition.. for example.. Christmas is the only time my mom will make some murukku, pineapple tarts, and other sweet treats… and these bring back childhood memories of family gatherings. So, enjoy those special festive treats, but do it with mindfulness. Make every indulgence worth it!

Keep Active: Keep moving!

We’ve all heard the saying: “You can’t run away from a bad diet.” That’s true, but exercise is still important. It’s not just about burning off that extra banana leaf meal; it’s about feeling energised, keeping fit, and achieving your health goals. If your usual routine gets disrupted, try fitting in exercise in the mornings or weekends. A daily 30-min walk works magic for a lot of our clients at the gym. A little planning can make a big difference and not disrupt your fitness journey.

Accountability: Do it with a friend!

It’s easy to back out of a plan when no one else knows about it. So, create some accountability. This could be joining a group class (like our small-group PT, or working with a personal trainer, or just making a pact with a friend!).

It can even be a public declaration to a supportive online / in-person community to create some momentum. No matter how you choose to get your accountability, it’s always better when you have someone to share your fitness journey with.

Looking for some accountability from the team here at DailyMuscle?

Schedule a call with a coach HERE to book a no-strings-attached workout trial.

Most Importantly, Have Fun!

Don’t be that party pooper that has to turn down everything at the dinner table because you’re on a diet.

Sure, you can make healthier choices on what you put on your plate, but, the festive season is all about enjoying these moments – and sometimes, it’ involves food – and that’s OK.

While you’re keeping up with your fitness goals, remember to spend time with your loved ones, immerse in the festive spirit, and yes, indulge in some of your favourite treats. It’s all about finding that sweet balance – enjoying life while taking care of yourself.

Let’s make this festive season a memorable one, with lots of love, laughter, and a little bit of magic!

Yours in health,
