WTF? I just received an AARP card!

Seriously? I opened my mail to find a plastic card with my name engraved into it. Complete with membership fees and a list of benefits.

I guess the fine print reads that I can “enjoy privileges if I’m over 50″… did they just assume that I qualify? I hope that their assumption wasn’t based on a photograph of me out there somewhere looking middle-aged. Shudder.

I think they have me on a list because I’m a Good Sam Club member. That must be the reason. Dag nabit! Those kids are on my lawn again! Gotta go…

August Hailstorm

Interesting weather in the middle of the summer… A hailstorm passed over my house yesterday afternoon. The temperature dropped from 85°F to 59°F in about two hours.

The storm started with a slow rumbling thunder as it moved in. Then bright flashes of lightning followed by loud booms of thunder, followed by rain. Then more rain. Then lots more fat rain. Then small intermittent icy rain. And finally – hail. Loud chunks of big hail.

My dogs didn’t know what to think about the noise outside, so I opened the door and let them lay down and watch the storm. Dee-oh-gee crept closer and closer outside until he got hit on the snout with a chuck of hail. He backed in the house after that.

I let them out to and play after the storm passed and they started eating all the little balls of snow. Check out more pictures on my Facebook album: “Summer Madness.”

The Apogee of Bison Tourism

What did I say about approaching wildlife? You get gored, that’s what. If you haven’t heard the recent news about a woman from Utah getting flipped by a bison, you can watch the CBS report by clicking the image below. It includes the video footage that these folks captured while standing so close to the buffalo.

There is speculation about these people throwing a piece of wood at the bison just before it started bucking. But you can see in the video that there is a white stick attached to the bison’s head that he shakes off onto his back. He got pissed when the stick hit his back and naturally he wanted to eat some humans to blow off some steam.

Would Dane Cook just punch that bull in the face?

By the way… apogee figuratively means “the highest point in the development of something; the climax or culmination of something.”

Amazon… Stop Suggesting PayPhrase!

Have you guys noticed the annoying notices asking to make purchasing easier by using a PayPhrase? I don’t care about that! I think that “1-Click” ordering is super easy. Why would I want to type three words and then enter a pin number instead of just clicking one button?

I decided to create a PayPhrase anyway just to get rid of the constant suggestion to do so. I created my own using a random word generator because I didn’t like “Jenn’s Forceful Impressions” or “Jenn’s Individual Courage.” But… I don’t plan on using this feature because I don’t know if I will be able to remember the pin number!

My Wii Works Again!

One day my Wii stopped working. I couldn’t load a disk, I couldn’t even turn it on. No lights showed on the console. The remotes worked fine but they’re obviously useless without the machine.

I thought maybe we had a power surge and the console got electrocuted. But then, yesterday it just started working again. Whoo hoo!

Also… did you know that you can press the Control and the Plus buttons at the same time on your keyboard to make the font look bigger on your browser? Yes, indeed.

CTRL + (makes webpage larger)
CTRL – (makes webpage smaller)
CTRL 0 (zero – makes webpage actual size)
