You may have noticed that I’ve been very quiet over the past 3 – 4
months. In fact, the last time I posted something to my blog was
way back on the 28th of July.

This is because I have been completely innactive in Network
Marketing. I just stopped.

Why?

I started a joint venture SEO company and wanted to focus
all of my attention on growing it. And it’s going remarkably
well considering neither of us have any experience getting
other people’s websites to rank in google. It’s not going to
make us millionaire’s just yet, but all of our clients are
seing improvement and we are planning to expand next year.

So why am I writing this email?

3 weeks ago there was a family tragedy that has changed my
perception of things. It made me think a lot. About life and how
it’s so short and precious and what I want to be doing with mine.
All the things I want to experience but haven’t so far. Basically I
want the time and money freedom to be doing the things i want to
do, whatever they may be.

Whilst I am currently enjoying building an SEO company, I know that
while it is better than a 9 – 5 job, it still doesn’t have the
level of freedom I’m looking for (until we get it making money on
auto-pilot that is .

The only thing I’ve come across that can provide the lifestyle of the
rich and famous for regular people who are motivated and hard
working, is Network Marketing and Internet Marketing.
Combine the two and you’ve got a match made in heaven.

So I’ve made the decision to return to Network Marketing
because there are a LOT of things I want to do next year
and I see Network Marketing as the only way of doing them
short of selling a kidney.

achieve the same things that I’m hoping to achieve.

In the previous Cold Calling Tips article, I discussed how generating your own leads is the best way to make calling your prospects a more enjoyable and successful experience. You’ll notice that it doesn’t actually have any application once you’ve picked up the phone. Well today I will reveal possibly THE most critical part of becoming good over the phone that you can apply to any phone call whether you’re phoning bought leads or leads you generated yourself.

So what’s the most important element when calling your prospects?

Posture!

Yep, I’m sure you’ve heard it before and if not, it basically means that you are the one in control of the conversation and hold all the power. You have to have the mindset that you are a professional who values your time and are looking for the right person to work with you.

What Having Good Posture Is:

• Posture is being a leader
• Looking for the right people to work with
• Doing a quick interview and directing to information
• Value your time above all else
• Asks the questions and controls the flow of the conversation.

What Having Good Posture is NOT:

• Wasting your time with poor prospects and negative people
• Trying to convince people that your business is for them
• Answering question after question dictated by your prospect
• Willing to work with anyone
• Getting emotionally involved with the outcome of a phone call

How to Improve Your Posture:

#1. Understand that Network Marketing is a numbers game. You are NOT looking to work with anyone, you are looking for quality people who share the vision of the opportunity. Accept that no matter what, most people will say no to your opportunity but a few will, which is who we are after. Don’t become emotionally involved with the outcome – It’s just a process.

#2. Value your time. Don’t let people waste your time. If they are clearly negative and not right for you business, say “sorry, but I don’t think this is for you” or something to that effect and move on to the next one. Set yourself a time limit for your phone calls. When you are first phoning your leads, you are trying to qualify them and directing them to information if they are suitable. This should take no longer than 3 – 5 minutes.

#3. Belief. Having a strong belief in your company and products will always help your posture on the phone. If you don’t truly believe in what you’re doing, the person on the other end will pick this up. If you’re only 50% positive about your business and the prospect is 60% negative or skeptical about it, who’s going to influence who? You can build you belief by being more involved in your company. Using the products, attending events and webinars. And if you still don’t have belief in the company, then maybe it’s not for you.

When you follow these rules of posture, your conversations go more smoothly, you will appear to be the leader and you will maximise your most important commodity - time. It is also a hell of a lot more enjoyable and the anxiety is gone, because with posture you don’t have bad conversations. You just have good ones and very, very short ones .  And those “right people” you are looking for? Well, they are far more likely to work with someone with posture. Wouldn’t it be great to work with motivated, like minded professionals who don’t nag all the time?

Cold calling. It sucks. That’s why I don’t do it. I don’t call random people out of the blue. They are expecting my call and often are looking forward to it, eager to find out more about what I do.

So Network Marketing Cold Calling Tips #1 is to generate your own high quality leads.

Bought leads are often a waste of money. The leads are usually low quality, they don’t know who you are, don’t want to know who you are, and it’s not a lot of fun.

If you generate your own leads and do it properly, the people you talk to will be of a higher quality, will want to talk to you, and will want to know more about you and what you do. It is WAY more enjoyable to do it this way around.

Affirmations are without a doubt one of the most powerful tools in the Personal Development arsenal. As the great Mohammad Ali once said “It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.” Yet the vast majority of the population don’t use affirmations and probably don’t even know how to write a powerful affirmation.

Just this past weekend, I was reminded of how powerful affirmations can be. On most weekends I play tennis. And lately I have been struggling with injuries and other things, and just haven’t been enjoying my tennis. My response to this hasn’t been great to say the least. Whenever I got behind I basically stopped competing, using that I wasn’t enjoying my tennis as an excuse to not try. Needless to say I lost most of these matches.

So I wrote down a new affirmation: “I give my absolute best all of the time in every situation”. I had only been reciting it for about a week when I played this last weekend. And once again I found myself in the same situation. I wasn’t playing particularly well, my opponent was, I lost the first set, was down a break in the second and I wasn’t exactly enjoying that. But whenever I had thoughts of doing what was easiest in that situation, my affirmation kept popping into my head and I tried a little bit harder.

I didn’t think I could win that second set but I decided I was going to give my very best till the very end. At 4-2 down I made every return and managed to break serve. Back in the match! We kept holding serve so the second set went to a tiebreak. I get off to a bad start, double faulting twice, something I was disgusted at and got down 4-1. Once again my affirmation popped in my head, I tried that little bit harder and after some tough points I ended up winning the set!

I know that a tennis match is a trivial victory in the grand scheme of things but I thought it was a great illustration of how powerful, positive affirmations do work. Just think how you could use affirmations to change the biggest problems in your life or with yourself?

So my brother has recently joined the original, the grandfather of MLM, Amway. Or as my dad says, the NFL (No Friends Left) club. I was astonished to find out that the average age of people joining Amway these days is 26, they’re still growing and completely debt free. Kind of makes you wonder what all the Amway naysayers are looking at. Amway’s not my kind of deal but I definitely respect what they do and a lot of companies could learn from them.

Anyway, turns out my bro is a natural. He is building his business quite quickly even though he doesn’t have a whole lot of time to devote to it. He’s just reached 10+ at the last event and was recognised on stage. I took some video of it but it is really bad quality because I left the video camera in the car and had to use my phone. But I’m going to share it with you anyway. He’s the 5th one who talks and says he’s a tennis player.
