Danimations’ producer and editor Emma Sterling began her creative journey as an artist and still photographer, and continues practising to this day. Her current show ‘Bloom’ presents a series of floral abstract images which double as vivid yet gentle colour studies. The works triumphantly re-imagine nature through a macro lens, a technique Emma has been practising since 2005. Her work is hanging on the walls of Christina’s on High Street in the charming South Australian town of Willunga (just an hour’s drive south of Adelaide) until September 8th, 2010.

Dan Monceaux and Emma Sterling’s latest artistic video works are on display for free public viewing until August 23rd as part of the 2010 South Australian Living Artists’ festival. The duo presented their latest Supermarket audio-visual performance ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ at the Queen’s Theatre on July 31, and were also nominated as a finalist for the Adelaide Film Festival partnership award for moving image art. Their first new piece, a high-definition meditation on light and motion entitled ‘When Sparks Fly’ is currently screening in the Bang & Olufsen showroom on Grenfell St, while the psychadelic waterslide ride ‘Pipe Dream’ plays on another Bang & Olufsen television in the Queen’s Theatre.

Nightly, an animated monochromatic pixel art pattern-study entitled ‘Bit-Tech’ plays as part of a loop of fresh works on the Rundle Lantern, Adelaide’s impressive multi-storey light sculpture located at the intersection of Rundle and Pultney Streets. After shooting several premium hotels in Adelaide for the European travel website TVTrip.com in 2009, danimations has been contracted to shoot nine more similar videos interstate, this time in Sydney and Melbourne. TVTrip.com is an invaluable resource to travel and holiday planners, providing visitors with unbiased video documentation of hotels the world over. Shot without the actors, models and ’spin’ of other commercial productions, these videos serve as a reliable and accurate resource and assist travellers in making informed decisions when booking travel accomodation. Six months in the making, the danimations-designed Triple Threat Animation project is sneaking lucky punters a preview of its wares at AVCON in Adelaide. Combining the talents of three talented emerging animation teams from Adelaide’s Tomorrow Studio, the project provides a promotional platform and production model for three unique new lines of animated entertainment. Binding them together is a cunning balance of cute, gruesome, colorful and playful elements, each module highly finished and ready to serve. Two pilots for animated cartoon series’ feature, with danimations’ production Death Finds a Day Job and Awesome Fighter Animation’s ‘Livin’ With Steve’ playing for black comedic laughs. Game developers I Love Biscuits will launch their cute casual online game ‘Pooper Trooper’ for beta testing and merchandise from each product will be available for purchase, to help fund future production. The project will offer glimpses of its works with three presences at AVCON- in the Creative Industries booth, the Indie Games Room and a special ‘behind-the-scenes’ panel presentation at 3.30pm on Saturday July 24th. Last year, AVCON attracted over 6000 attendees, and their team are expecting even greater numbers of gaming and animation fans this weekend… the perfect local audience for our steaming hot new efforts!

At danimations, we take an holistic approach to online video distribution. While our clients tend to prioritize embedding video on their own websites, redistributing content to popular video portal sites can have significant benefits in increasing brand, product and service awareness off-site and driving traffic back to your website. As we do with our client work, we distribute our own content across a number of these sites, carefully monitoring viewing trends. Yesterday, our own promotional channel passed a 30,000 view milestone. Interestingly, Youtube only represents 68% of our total views through portal sites, and for some of our clients, this figure can be as low as 12%. When the Deepwater Horizon oil-rig ignited in the Gulf of Mexico back in May, we were horrified. Our disappointment and feeling of dread grew as the volume of oil pumping into the ocean increased with each bungled and delayed attempt to stop the leak. Creative people should never feel impotent in the face of such events though, as maintaining public engagement is everything. danimations has just embarked on a short animated video series entitled ‘Oil’s Well’ inspired by this sordid chain of events. You can watch a silent preview of the first episode courtesy of the Sydney Opera House’s GRAPHIC animation competition. The first episodes of the micro-short animated series will be completed in the next month- though the series will continue at least as long as the leak does!

danimations has just launched a youtube presence for South Australian car-hoist manufacturer, Molnar Engineering Pty Ltd. Initially commissioned to produce a factory tour video for display at a motor industry event in Dubai, they will be expanding their Youtube channel with product-specific, training and maintenance videos in the coming months. An established exporter with a premium product, Molnar Engineering sees the value in expanding their online presence with HD video, and we’re delighted to be working with them.

The SA Government’s Attorney General’s Department recently engaged danimations to deliver custom video content for their internal use. Offering an economical and agile approach to production, we were able to deliver satisfying results in a tight timeframe for our new client. Our first production for the department’s campaign premiered at a presentation at the Adelaide Festival Centre last week and will soon be accessible to the department’s 1700 staff via their new ‘Make a Difference’ blog.
