[VTO_BLOCK=169]

What you are about to learn here today is most likely going to go against everything you have ever learned about getting traffic to your website…

In fact, it may even disturb you... but I gotta tell ya…

…ever since adapting this new strategy into my websites… well, let’s just say traffic generation has become the least of my worries.

So what is it? Let’s cut to the chase!

What I’m going to teach you today is about making your website traffic go “viral” using strategic assets on your existing website. I’ve finally been able to drill it down to a somewhat simple set of ingredients, which you can implement on your website right now to see immediate increases of traffic!

And we’re not talking any old traffic either! We’re talking about the kind of traffic that builds bigger and bigger every single day the moment the “traffic snowball” starts rolling… all of which is done 100% automatically without any additional input on your end.

Now, before we get into the “how to”, first I want to reprogram the way you think about traffic generation…

So, by now you probably know the basics to traffic generation:

Build backlinks and SEO your website to get search engine traffic

Submit content to other websites in hopes of snagging a few visitors

Comment on forums and blogs related to your website to build a fan base

etc. etc. etc.

All of this stuff is great for building “seed traffic”, but, as you may have experienced already, these traffic “wins” are short lived – you get traffic for a short amount of time, only to see it die out.

Now here’s where I want to reprogram the way you think…

Are you ready to know the secret to unlocking unlimited amounts of traffic to your website?

Here it is….

The secret to obtaining all the website traffic you’ll ever need is….

—- to stop spending your time actively getting traffic to your website! —-

Wait, what??? Did I actually advise you to stop working on generating traffic?

The answer is yes, and hear me out to learn why…

What I’ve been discovering is that it’s not about how you get the traffic, but rather, what you do with the traffic once it lands on your website.

The moment you switch your thinking from “getting more traffic” to maximizing the utility of every single visitor who lands on your website, is the moment you’ll never have to worry about traffic generation again.

For now on, I want you to focus more thought on how you can encourage 1 visitor who lands on your website to share your website with 1 more person. This concept is known as viral traffic generation.

So what are some things you can do to your website to make it “go viral”?

You see, making your website go viral is an art work. There’s also no equation that you can follow that will guarantee that your content goes viral either… however, there are things you can do to your website that will greatly improve your websites’ viral factor. That’s what I want to share with you now.

First, let’s focus on your website content…

The type of content you place on your website is an extremely crucial factor for viral traffic generation – in my opinion it’s one of the most important factors. Now, that said, if you think it’s as easy as throwing up a generic Amazon product review on your website, well I’ve got news for you, you’re in for a bit of a disappointment!

The rule of thumb for viral content is this: your content has to be so damn good/interesting that your website visitor benefits in some way by sharing your content with someone else.

For example:

I remember about a year ago I saw a video on Youtube titled something like “The Worlds Greatest Jumps”. It was a video of skilled skydivers doing some really insane stuff with wing suits – like weaving in and out of radio tower cables after base jumping from the top of it – you know…crazy shit like that… Anyway, it was so cool…so freakin’ mindblowing that I knew that if I showed this video to my friends, they would be “thankful” that I recommended they watch it. I wanted to be “the guy who showed me that awesome video” – Glory! For that pathetic moment, glory was mine for all of eternity!

Glory – A crude motivation no doubt, but a motivation none the less.

Along with glory, there a few other motivations for people to share your content. Another reason can be greed. More about that at a latter time perhaps…

So anyway, you want to try and invoke these different kinds of emotions into your content & website to give your visitors a motivation to help you out in return!Once there is some sort of motivation, you’ve pretty locked in a strong viral factor for that piece of content.

P.S: On a side note, here are some observations that I’ve noticed about the style of content that is usually a viral success:

Funny

Cute – Puppy and baby taking nap together

Shocking – 10 car pileup car accident

Breaking news

Engaging content – content that gets users commenting & involved

Controversial topics – politically charged content often gets users livid rather quickly

Scandals

Doom and Gloom – World is ending type stuff

Cool stuff that a trained human can do – people love to hear about ordinary people doing extra-ordinary things. This is a huge motivator!

Educational – educationally based content has a lower viral factor because it tends to be more targeted, but it still can go viral if you have the right audience visiting your website.

War

David vs. Goliath stories – man wins case vs. state government. underdog overcomes all odds.

Celebrity – Celebrity content does well especially when there is a fall from grace involved.

Dumb people doing dumb things

There are many more – if you have a good one to share, please comment on this post below!

Second, you should ALWAYS leverage extra space on your website to help you get more traffic!

Right now, on your website, I can guarantee you there are at least 3 places that you aren’t utilizing which you can use to help your website become more automated with viral website traffic. Using special scripts and tools, you can use sidebars to drive Facebook traffic to your website, to build your RSS subscriber list even faster, and even to build backlinks for you!

One crucial area of your website that is often overlooked, which even to this day I catch myself cutting corners), is the content you create! So what do you do?

Simply ask! Ask your visitors to help you out by sharing your content on the different social networking sites they belong to! Remember: It is a natural human response to share exciting new stuff with other people…

Here’s how easy it is:

“If you thought this page was worth your time, could you quickly help us out by sharing this page with a friend? You can like, share, or tweet this page here:

// ]]>

- THANK YOU!”

Speaking of which, if you don’t mind…

Third, build up a subscriber base for gods sakes!!

It’s extremely important that you “capture” new traffic that comes in to your website whenever possible. Beg and plead if you have to, but always make sure you put a lot of focus into building up your RSS feed and email list. This is a crucial asset you can leverage at any time to help get new pieces of your content rolling down the road to viral traffic stardom.

Forth, build up “micro-communities” on your website and other social networking sites. (BONUS TIP)

This is something I’ve been resisting for a long time, but have finally realized it’s something that can no longer be resisted. Look, let’s face it… sites like Facebook, Twitter, G+, etc. are here to stay. More and more people are using these sites every single day, so your options are either to fight tooth and nail, or go by the age-old expression “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”.

So, for every site I make for now (that I intend to make into a serious website) I am not only spending effort to build up a presence on the different social networking sites applicable to that niche…

… but I am also integrating those social networking sites into my own website!

And the reason why I am doing this for now on is simple. The more you make your own website a “home away from home” to users of a specific social community, the more it benefits you:

They spend more time on your website.

They’re more likely to subscribe to your site and trust you because of the social elements.

And they’re more likely to refer more users on that social network to your website. <— hint hint ****

Do you remember how I said earlier it’s crucial to give someone a motivation to syndicate your content? Now I want you to think think about what benefits Facebook gives webmasters to integrate Facebook into their websites (essentially building Facebook for them for free)… Cool, huh?

And finally… the hidden benefit of establishing these “micro-communities” is that once you establish these little hot-beds of happy subscribers, anytime you publish a piece of content to the web, you can bet your new buddies will be there to help get the viral juices going through their respective social communities!

Now… here’s where I’d like your input…

Two things:

What did you think about this post? Is traffic generation an issue for you? Are you utilizing anything I spoke about above in your website already? Do you have any ideas you’d like to share with other readers of my blog? Let me know by commenting below! I’m trying to make this post into a solid resource for viral traffic generation, so if you have anything else you think we’d benefit by, please share them by commenting below!

And lastly, if you wouldn’t mind, (and I’m certainly very appreciative if you can), would you mind giving this post a shout out to your friends on Facebook, Twitter, or +1? Just doing what I can to give some solid content to the community, anything you can do in return is always appreciated! Here are the share buttons you can use:

Hey guys! Dan Brock here, and a very long time since my last post – I’ll tell you why in a second…

First, I wanted to share with you this very inspirational story of a man who made a mansion out of mud:
>> If You Can’t View the Video, Here’s a Direct Youtube Link to Watch It <<

>> If You Can’t View the Video, Here’s a Direct Youtube Link to Watch It <<

It took him 5 years to build it, and his neighbors laughed and ridiculed him the entire time. “Why don’t you take shortcuts and build your house like every one else around you?” they said… Had he of listened, he’d be living in a mud hut right now like everyone else. But instead, he’s kicking it in his bad ass mansion!

Lesson learned:

The masses tend to take the easiest route, and they’ll do everything they can to keep you from trying to take the high road. They’ll laugh at you, tell you how dumb you are, tell you how you are wasting your time, tell you that you should do things like everyone else…They’re like crabs who will claw their buddies back into the boiling pot when they are about to make an escape.

It’s your job as an entrepreneur to have the dedication, knowledge, and perseverance to prove the masses wrong. Initially the high road is a lot more work, but once you overcome the obstacles, the fruits of your labor are much more satisfying in the end.

And just to give you all some updates on what’s going on in my business (and how it effects you).

1) I’ve finally made the commitment to move my business into an office - I just signed the lease this weekend and we move Tuesday. I’m excited about it! I have 1 full time employee at the moment and will be taking that up to 5 full time by the end of the year so I need the space. I’ve been working in my bed room for the past 2 years and decided it’s time to get serious. I want to take my daily work time up to 4 hours per day, and I see the only way for that to be possible for me is if I have an office I can force myself to do work in.

2) I’m starting a new online community geared toward making money online “the lazy way” – This is going to be a totally 100% free to join. My plan is for the site to encompass every way to make money online, but to theme everything to making it all work with as little amount as time spent possible. I am also working out deals right now with a lot of the top online marketers to share fresh new content regularly to our members – and as part of this community one of my goals is to build up a very active discussion board and social network. I think this is going to help a lot of you finally get the gears rolling on your online business. It’s pretty hard to explain the idea in my head for this, but you’ll see where I’m going with it over time. In order for me to build this community, I will be discontinuing this blog “Dan the Internet Man” and will be moving everything over to my new website, starting next week.

So guys keep an eye out for the announcements of the new site – I think it’s going to change the make money online world significantly. It’ll take some time, but it’s going to be epic.

Hey Deadbeats!

I’ve talked a lot about discovering your true motivations in the past but since this is what I consider one of the most important mental foundations of an online business, it’s time to drill the concept in even more.

I’ll start off by asking you a simple question:

What was/is your motivation when you first decided you wanted to start your own online business?

Most likely your first response would be “to make a lot of money online”.

This is what I consider a “crude” motivation. A crude motivation is something that is driven entirely by simple emotions like greed – Greed is your motivation to make money online.
If this sounds like you, It’s OK. Mostly everyone starts out with this motivation. However, to make a successful run at this business, you need to evolve your motivations, so to speak.

Why Developing Higher Level Motivations is So Important…

I can tell you this with 100% certainty because it’s happened to me before, and to hundreds of students that I’ve taught before:

If your only motivation for starting your online business is to “make a lot of money”, you will eventually fail.

Why? Well two reasons:

It can be awhile before you start “making a lot of money”, or even anywhere near close to what you may consider a respectable income online. If your only motivation is that of greed, your motivational fire will extinguish before you make it to your goal. There’s a lot of ups and downs (more downs then ups) when you first start out, and a simple motivation like greed is not enough to keep your going during these rough patches. And if greed is your only motivation at this time, most likely you are in denial right now even while you are reading this. If you don’t believe me here… that’s fine. You’ll see what I mean soon enough.

Reason number two is once you obtain your goal of “making a lot of money”, you’ve now lost your only motivation to continue to push your business forward. I’ve experienced this before. I built up a very successful online business, and as soon as a reached a certain income level my interest and motivation in my business plummeted. My spark had burnt out – and slowly but surely my income levels dropped. And unfortunately since my motivation was now gone, I had no inspiration left in me to keep pushing forward.

How To Evolve Your Motivations To a Higher Level

Instead of focusing on the money, focus your motivations towards what that money can do for you. For example:

Make a lot of money so you can spend more time with your family

Make a lot of money so you can provide your family with security.

That way your motivation is driven by love for your family and not something material like money. You can take it even further…

Here are my main motivations that drive my business right now:

To escape the trap of the American dream – go to school, obtain massive debt, and be forced into working a mediocre job that sucks away my dreams and ambitions every day is not my cup of tea.

To prove my friends wrong – those who said I couldn’t make a successful business again and that the reason my first business was successful was because I was lucky.

To make a major positive impact on the world – this is one of my major motivators to keep pushing my businesses forward. I know it’s one of those idealistic dreams of young people, but for me it is a dream that I am actively pursuing and know that it’s only a matter of time before it happens, as long as I have the motivation to back it up!

Self improvement: improve my communicative and social skills – I’m very introverted and shy by nature and have been using my business to improve this aspect of my life. I’m forced to do certain things that I normally wouldn’t be comfortable with. As I become better at this stuff, it becomes more and more fun. Now it’s a big factor of why I push my business forward.

For respect – I don’t want a boss that I have to bow down to. I am 100% motivated to insure that I never have to work for anyone in my life (unless I want to).

The challenge of building something successful – overcoming a challenge is the main reason I love being an entrepreneur. I want to succeed where most people fail.

To become better – improving skills that I am developing has always been a major motivator for me. I don’t mean competition: as in being better than everyone else. I become better for my own personal gratification – I want to become better not for everyone else, but for me.

Those are just a few of my motivations, and they change and evolve all the time. Every different stage I reach in my business my motivations adapt and change. It’s a natural process, but becoming aware of the motivations that will drive you through the goods and the bads is extremely crucial for any entrepreneur.

If I were you, right now I would pick up a piece of paper and list the top 5 motivators that make you want to be in this business… and don’t say “to make a lot of money”

Let me know what you think!

Hey Everyone! Dan here with another blog post to help you make more money from your online business. I want to discuss the difference between thinking and doing, and what levels of each you should apply to your business.

So first things first… what exactly do I mean by “thinking” and how much of it should you do?

Active thought invested in your business throughout the day is what I mean by thinking. It is a very crucial element of making your business successful. Here’s what I’ve noticed when progressing in my ventures:

The more thought I invest in my business the better I do.

If you are lazy and don’t feel like working, you sure as hell better be thinking your a** off.

I’m not talking about thinking about which car you want to buy with all your money you’re about to make online, or what you are going to do after you are done building your website either…

We’re talking constant thought 10 hours per day on how you can improve your business and reduce your work load:

When I am driving my car, I am thinking about my business.

When I am going to the mall to pick up lunch, I am thinking about my business (in fact I came up with the idea for this post while I was in line waiting to pick up my food)

While I’m playing video games I’m thinking about what I need to do next in my business.

While I’m falling asleep for the night I’m going through a list in my head of what I accomplished that day and what I was unable to accomplish so that when I wake up I can put those unfinished tasks on my to-do list.

And so on, and so on.

A lot of my thoughts are also centered around cutting the amount of time I spend actually working:

“I’ve got 3 days to reach my deadline but I don’t really feel like doing the work so who is it I need to talk to, to have the work done for me?”

Whenever I start doing any kind of tedious task my mind immediately switches to how can I automate this so that I don’t have to do this boring crap again?

If I have outsourcers working on active projects I’m thinking about how to coordinate everything while they are working.

I’m thinking about meeting deadlines: If I have 7 days to complete a project and the project involves working with two people, I want to make sure I think out the proper dates to have materials ready for each person. On a recent project I’ve been working on, it involved working with 6 different people. 5 of those 6 people required work from the one person before they could even begin their work… so I had to make sure I thought out my deadlines correctly so the 5 other outsourcers had time to get their stuff done.

If one of my workers fails to come through, do I have a backup plan? If I don’t have a backup plan, how long would it take for me to do the task if it’s worse case scenario?

That leads into something else important…

As you start delegating your work out to people, you’re going to quickly discover that not everything works out how it should. Sometimes your outsourcers fall through. That’s why it’s crucial you know how to do EVERYTHING you have your outsourcers doing. If they fall through, you’re going to have to suck it up and put in some work. While you don’t have to be a master of every task, it’s very important you know how to do the basics of each task.

This is for two reasons:

You know your outsourcer isn’t messing with you

You can work on a fix for the problem… and while the fix may not be as good as what the outsourcer can give you, it’ll work just “good enough”. An example of that recently on a project of mine was that one of my web designers was slow on getting me the images my video guy needed to start working on the sales video. If I didn’t know how to work with photoshop, I’d be screwed right now. Sure it may not be the best work ever, but it sure is better than having nothing…

Now we lead right into the “doing” aspect of the busienss… how much time should you spend doing?

Here’s something that is really funny to me…

You all know I take the lazy angle for a lot of my products I make, and I sometimes get some flak from people saying it’s fake because making money online requires hard work…

I often hear these comments from article writers and ghostwriters… people who think that making money online can only be done by slugging it out hour after hour doing some annoying task. In my opinion, this type of mindset is derived from working as an employee where you think you have to put in 8 hours a day of work to receive 8 hours of pay.

I’ve got news for you folks: we are not employees… we are entrepreneurs.

I can tell you right now if you aren’t leveraging your time online, you might as well be working a job. If you are writing article after article yourself every single day, you might as well be working somewhere from 9-5. The advantage to being an entrepreneur is you can leverage other peoples time so you don’t have to do the work yourself.

I learned this very early on with my hosting company when I was 16. I was in school all day, and eventually my company got so big I simply couldn’t do the tech support myself. My options were to spend all day responding to tech support tickets and put a cap on what I could earn per month, or I can outsource my tech support so I can spend the two hours that I had a day to work on my business pushing it forward.

Do you see where I’m getting with this?

Figure out everything you need to do in order for you to work no more than 2 hours per day while growing your business, and I guarantee you that you will see your income explode.

Any comments and thoughts? Feel free to share ‘em below.

Hey everyone! It’s been awhile since my last post so I figured I’d discuss something cool today.

What I want to talk about is why having your footprints all over the online is important, and also share a cool technique you can use to help you build more footprints.

So what’s a footprint and why do you need them?

An online footprint is essentially your network of assets that you have created online over the months and years. These footprints are assets that drive traffic and sales regardless of what you do later on.

Footprints can include:

Affiliate sites

Articles on article directories

Blogs

Squeeze Pages

Giveaway content

Products you sell

I know this is very obvious, so I want to relate it to my own personal experience with a story of a footprint I created back in 2009. To this day, over a year and a half later, this simple footprint that took me about a days worth of work to build still sends me highly valuable buyer leads on a daily basis.

Even though I haven’t touched it since I put it online 18 months ago, I’ve added over 1000 buyers to my list because of it.. Every day I login and check my subscription stats and can always count on this simple footprint to add a few buyers to my list on a daily basis.

Here’s how one simple footprint added 1000 buyers to my list

It essentially revolves around creating 2 high quality freebies, and giving one away with master resell rights.

Here’s what I made:

1) A high quality PDF document that gave away one solid piece of information. It was roughly 11 pages long, and the only promotion element in it was 2 links to where they could get another freebie from me if they liked the PDF they were reading. I gave away master resell rights to this product so that anyone who downloaded it could legally distribute it.

2) A squeeze page – I linked the high quality PDF to my squeeze page.

3) Another giveaway freebie to fulfill my promise on the squeeze page in step 2.

Here’s where the magic happens

I gave away master resell rights to the high quality freebie I created in step one. I then went on forums related to my topic and advertised my freebie as a free master resell rights product they could sell, give away as a bonus, or give away as a freebie as long as they kept the document intact. The reason why I didn’t allow them to edit the document was because I wanted to make sure my links to my squeeze page remained in there so I could capture leads.

What happened?

Since my master resell rights product was so high quality and didn’t include a lot of advertising within the content, people started giving away my product as an added bonus when people purchased one of their products.

Some people placed my MMR product on PLR networks which helped increase the circulation of it. Some people even sold it on Ebay!

And since the information within the giveaway product was such high quality, people reading through it followed my links in the document to get an additional freebie I offered to accompany the original document (I linked to my squeeze page from the resell rights document).

What’s best about all these subscribers is that they are highly qualified – not only are they buyers, but they now like my material

So now I’ve got to ask… what did you do today to place more of your own footprints online? Comment below…

I’ve been getting a lot of emails from subscribers about the recent Google updates and how my methods are effected by it.

If you’ve bought any of my courses, you know I’m an advocate for unique content… and unique content that actually serves a purpose. I’ve been doing SEO for a number of years now, and I’ve noticed the number 1 key to longevity in search rankings is to do what the search engines want you to do.

They want REAL unique content written by a real person. They don’t want automatically spun garbage, auto blogging (I’ll talk about that in a sec), and any of the usual stuff that people try and short cut with.

The good news is, if you’ve followed what I taught you in any of my trainings you are 100% OK.

Here’s what it all boils down to… you ready?

Making your websites for the users, and not the search engines.

That’s right! All you have to do is make a website that YOU YOURSELF would want to spend time reading. How do you do that? Simple:

Write content that has value (300 words or more). While you can get away with creating ‘common knowledge’ content, every extra bit of effort you put into your content creation carries it a long way. Actually write about tips and info that if you read, you’d learn something as well.

Add images and videos to capture user interest.

Proper formatting (while SEs don’t care about formatting, it makes your content more readable which equates to higher conversions)

It’s as simple as that. Nothing has changed – however one thing I would suggest you do is try not to overload your site with affiliate links. Occasionally publish an article here and there that is pure content. If you use affiliate links, make them no-follow.

Now…. Auto-blogging: dead or alive?

The recent Google updates were designed to weed out auto-blogging sites – however I’ve seen a number of Google updates in the past that were supposed to weed out those auto-blogger sites, yet they still continue to grab search traffic. Most of my auto-blogging sites are still getting organic search traffic, so clearly the update wasn’t as effective as everyone thinks. I did notice a couple lost their traffic, but those were very thin and crappy auto-blog sites that had very little content within.

While I think they did change their search algorithms a tad, something tells me all they really did was take on a few more manual editors to review search results to manually weed out junk sites as a short term effort to discourage people from auto-blogging. If you couple that with a ‘big announcement’ of an algo change, the effects ripple through the webmaster community. Some webmasters notice that their auto-blog sites were de-indexed, they freak out and associate it with the Google updates and then run to their favorite webmaster community to tell everyone about what happened. Other people start jumping on saying they also lost some traffic, and before you know it those threads go viral, and people start proclaiming that Google has “effectively eliminated auto-blogging”.

It’s another one of those ‘the world is ending’ mindsets IMO.

But the thing is… I’ve been hearing that for years, but yet people are still effectively using auto-blogging effectively to get traffic from the search engines.

Let me show you some of the traffic stats for one of my auto-blogs. The update was around the end of February. Look at my traffic which is organic search driven for March 2011 ( btw, I accidentally let the account expire for about a week during March)

Thoughts?
