Get on board with ‘Bad Taste’, a new series that documents one man’s mission to eat and review 20 year old candy so you don’t have to! You’ll go on a roller-coaster ride of hilarity with many loops of disgust and one man inching his way closer to food poisoning.

That man is Jayme Kilsby, an eccentric funnyman with a stomach of steel and a stash of 20+ year old candy he can’t help but ingest. When Jayme isn’t eating candy, he’s indulging on Justice League Pop-Tarts, tacos, ect.

Have your vomit bags ready as you dive into the first episode, which features ‘Michael Jordan Space Jam Trophy Treats’, from 1996. 1996. Miniature Michael Jordan busts, that are surprisingly accurate, filled with gum balls, the integrity of which are questionable.

When ‘Space Jam’ came out all those years ago and MJ was approving these busts of himself for distribution, I imagine this series is exactly what he had in mind. We reached out to Michael Jordan for comment and received no reply. Still, ‘Space Jam’ holds up, so should the candy!

Go into ‘Bad Taste’ with an open mind as Jayme snacks himself both into your heart, and into his grave. Witness Michael Jordan alley-oop his (gum)balls into Jayme’s mouth in an unusually entertaining, disgusting sort of way.

In order to get you acquainted with our new host, we asked him some questions:

1) What inspired Bad Taste and your mission to continuously poison yourself?

As silly as these videos are, there was a lot of inspiration and a lot of thought to it. I’m a big fan of a few blogs that primarily focus on nostalgia for their content they generate. I’ve also always wanted to make people laugh. Since these bloggers really say nearly everything there is to be said about a lot of topics, I wanted to produce content of my own but was reluctant because I didn’t want to post stuff that’s already been done to death or that somebody else can do better. A few years ago I ate a stick of gum from a 1991 TMNT trading card pack as a goof. I posted a picture about it to facebook and got a really cool reaction from a lot of people. It took a little bit, and some inspiration from my buddy Rob, but these videos seemed like the answer. They would, in theory, be funny – AND I’d be reporting on nostalgic things like all the blogs I love so much.

2) What can viewers expect to see on this season of Bad Taste?

viewers can expect to see more taste testing of some vintage candies from the 80s and 90s! Some that they will recognize right away, and some they may only recognize by brand. I really only focus on movie and TV tie in foods. So don’t expect to see me eat a snickers from 1986. Unless, of course, it’s Ghostbusters branded or something. What is happening to my life? So yeah, expect some things that make you nostalgic and some things to make you laugh!

3) If you could bring back one candy from the 90’s to be reproduced now, what would that candy be?

If I could bring back one candy from the 90s it would be a tie between two candies that I only vaguely remember. One of which being this green, sour slime that came in a toothpaste looking tube that had Slimer from The Real Ghostbusters on it. I think it was simply called “Slimer Gum”. OR this super sour candy that had WCW wrestlers on the packaging. It’s literally ungoogleable. I’ve tried. I might be the only person who ever had it.

4) What’s your favorite candy, past and present?

my favorite candy of all time, past or present, is probably Butterfinger. But it’s weird, man. The appeal isn’t quite as there when they don’t put Bart Simpson on the wrapper. My brain is weird.”

*Bad Taste with Jayme Kilsby was created by Jayme Kilsby, produced by DAPS (Specifically Christopher Olivieri, Tavis Delahunt, and Damian Thomas), written by Jayme Kilsby, Vin Forte, Julianne Neely, and Chris Knight.*

Sometimes, you walk away from interacting with another human being and think to yourself, “I wish this person were more like a dog!” I mean, dogs are loyal, they love you unconditionally, and if you’ve trained them correctly, will bring you a beer. The occasional bartender might bring you a beer, but that’s about where the similarities between dogs and human end. We think this is sad.

That’s why the above video by POPSUGAR is a complete godsend. Joanna Sloame and the other geniuses at POPSUGAR bridged the gap between stupid humans and dogs. How? By having humans pose like (insta)famous dogs for photos.

Brilliant, right? I know.

Now we just sit back and wait for POPSUGAR to turn the rest of the world into dogs. Godspeed, POPSUGAR, you’re doing <del>dog’s</del> god’s work.

Heading into an election year, we’ll probably be hearing a lot about our right to bear arms. What we should be hearing about is our right to Bear Hands.

Was that a stretch?

I don’t care.

No, you shut up!

Anyway, Bear Hands is an indie-rock band from Brooklyn, and their official music video for “2AM” is one of the cooler concepts for a lyric video that I’ve ever seen. As the camera explores a house party, cue cards with the song’s lyrics appear in random points within the frame introducing new listeners to the catchy tune’s lyrical depth.

Bear Hands will be on the road supporting the release of You’ll Pay For This, their album which is scheduled for release in April of 2016. Bear Hands will be joining Cage the Elephant, Silversun Pickups and Foals on The Spring Fling Rock AF 2016 Tour. Launching in Fresno, CA on March 11th, the tour will stretch across the US and wraps up on April 1st in Providence, RI.

Previously on DAPS, we introduced you to opera singer turned pop-bombshell, Giselle and her covers of The Black Keys’ “Fever” and Cat Stevens’ “Wild World.” Today we share an original from this intriguing new artist. After a whirlwind year in 2015, which included performing on FX’s Louie, Giselle is ready to introduce the world to her original music. Above is the music video for “Proof,” the lead single off of Giselle’s upcoming EP “Change Me.” A true renaissance woman, Giselle is actually credited as Director for “Proof.” Between the powerful vocals and visuals reminiscent of the greatest music videos of the early 90s, we can’t wait to hear (and see) what Giselle does next!

The track was co-written and produced by Adam Tilzer of Avon Junkies and The Defectives, who recently appeared as a guest on our podcast ‘Any Time with Vin Forte’ where he discussed working with Giselle, as well as Amy Poehler and Norah Jones.

Any right-minded person could tell you that the dinosaurs running around in last summer’s blockbuster hit, Jurassic World, weren’t real. A cursory knowledge of how special effects have been applied in the last decade of movie-making would probably tell you that there were some other elements that weren’t actually on set when Colin Trevorrow and co. filmed the picture. What you might not realize is that much of what you saw in the film: water, trees, buildings, people, and pretty much everything else in the movie was nothing more than a very realistic cartoon.

In the video above, released by Industrial Light and Magic, you can see just how much of that Jurassic World wasn’t in the world at all. The ILM crew, who did the FX work for the film are pretty slick. I mean, who would have guessed that those baby triceratops were actually just dudes wearing saddles. Though, while we’re on the subject, that’d make for a pretty interesting movie as well.

Get on it Trevorrow…

Rick and Morty is one of the most intelligent series on television. Paired with (many) jokes about butts, or balls or butts and balls, is an awareness of the deepest subject matter possible. Creators Dan Harmon (Community) and Justin Roiland (Adventure Time) draw from the likes of Nietzsche and Camus to paint a picture of existence that most cartoons (or live-action series) simply never explore.

This great clip was produced by media collective, Wisecrack, a group that produces interesting videos about various pop-culture subjects, which are posted on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Adam Tilzer is a recording engineer, producer, and musician who has seen a lot in his time and also has a very firm grasp on the history of modern rock and roll music. Only mere days after the passing of David Bowie, he was the first person I thought of to give some context to his life and legacy. We also discuss what makes a good recording, having music before having an image, the influence of black artists on early rock and roll, we talk about Little Richard and Elvis, engineering the music for FX’s ‘Louie,’ freaking out about meeting Amy Poehler, engineering for Keith Richards’ solo album, Adam’s own work with Avon Junkies and The Defectives, and more.

Here at the DAPS office, Libbermish and I think we’ve figured out the winning Powerball numbers. If you’re living in a cave, or another country, or reading this from the future, let me explain. The Powerball lottery drawing, is at it’s biggest jackpot of all-time, and we think the whole thing is a conspiracy. Is it rigged? Maybe. Are we being tricked by the most lucrative slight-of-hand of all time? Most likely. No matter what the mechanism, we’re pretty sure that the public is being hosed, in all likelihood by the Illuminati.

How did we come to our conclusions? Don’t worry about it! Just don’t steal our numbers, which if we had to guess, are probably also Rick Ross’ numbers. That’s fine, we’re willing to share with The Big Boss.

We’ve been promoting Geoff Celis’ “Some Guys Are Bigger Than Others” for quite some time now. If you haven’t yet been educated, here’s a short description of the film from it’s official website:

Some Guys are Bigger Than Others is a short film by Made In SI films about a “Morissey” fan named Jim, who is trying to convince his friends that he can wrestle. When his two friends Devin and Kenny bring him to a Lucha Libre competition, Jim has to do whatever he can to survive.

In 2013, Director Geoff Celis was in the process of finishing his first action/comedy screenplay when he first conceptualized Some Guys. It all started with an image of a series of Spanish-speaking Luchadores surrounding a guy who didn’t know the language, wondering how he ended up in this mess. Geoff took this idea and worked it out with writer/comedian Tim Duffy, who created the main script. Geoff decided that if they could win a grant for a short film, that he would start producing the project. Later that year, the short film project was awarded a grant from Staten Island Arts, a non-profit arts organization. Once the idea became a reality, Geoff brought on former collaborators Casey Jost and Kevin Devlin to help Tim flesh out the rest of the story. The rest of the team was assembled from co-workers and friends in the business. After hearing about the buzz from the set, and reading the script, comedian Brian Quinn decided to make a cameo.

Not only does it feature OG DAPS staffer, Michaelangelo “Flam” Muniz, but also frequent collaborators/well-wishers Casey Jost, Kevin Devlin, and Tim Duffy. Not only is it made on Staten Island, but the film’s Indiegogo campaign also promoted the borough we call home. Today, we’re proud and excited excited to tell you that ‘Some Guys’ is now available for streaming online.

Congrats to everyone involved in the making of the film. We can’t wait to see what you guys do next!

Casey Jost is a frequent DAPS collaborator and if I’m being honest, the funniest dude on Staten Island. This Wednesday night, the Impractical Jokers writer will be taking another step on his road to super-stardom with the pilot episode of Bet on Me, a people watching game show airing on The Learning Channel (aka TLC.) You can catch the pilot episode this Wednesday, December 30th at 10pm.

So, what’s this Bet On Me about? Here’s a quick description that Casey threw us:

People watching: it’s America’s favorite pastime. On the subway with your friends, waiting for a flight at a crowded airport, or sitting with a date on a park bench – there are few things more entertaining than watching strangers going about their daily lives and creating elaborate backstories for them. Now, for the first time ever, people-watching is transformed into a game show where real people make judgments on the people around them based solely on watching them. What’s their situation or relationship? Where do they come from? Where are they going and what they will do next? And if the contestant is right, they win cash on the spot!

UPDATE: Here’s a trailer, which is like a description but with images and sound!

We asked Jost what his favorite part of shooting this interesting game show was. “I was so surprised at how invested people became when guessing the backstory of a complete stranger. It was fun to see. I hope people watching at home play along” he explained, adding “[I’ve] always loved talking to strangers. And interestingly enough when there are cameras and a microphone people are less afraid to talk to me, so it works out well.”

It’s pretty exciting, but it’s not just DAPS that’s excited. The premiere has already been written up by SILive.com and tweeted about by the likes of Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost, who claims to be related to Casey, and Impractical Joker Brian Quinn, who does as well. Our 23andMe results have not yet been returned to confirm any familial relationships:

My guest this episode has the greatest range of any video game developer in history. Howard Scott Warshaw worked for Atari in the early 80s and created what many consider one of the greatest games of it’s era in ‘Yar’s Revenge’ and also one of the worst in ‘E.T. The Video Game.’ In this episode we discuss how he got his start at Atari, the process of programming games at that time, the economics of making video games, authorship in early games, creating Yar’s Revenge, meeting and pitching a game to Steven Spielberg, the 5 week rush to develop E.T., the video game crash of 1983, the idea of a first product life cycle, the inner workings of and rise & fall of Atari in the 80s, life after Atari and new beginnings as the Silicon Valley Therapist, and more.

As we approach Thanksgiving, you’ll be seeing a lot more Thanksgiving content make it’s way into your Facebook and Twitter feeds. Some of it will be good, some will be bad, and some will feature a hairy yam with six-pack abs. Today, we give you that jacked yam, because how could we not?

You might be wondering why this exists. The short answer is, I don’t know. The longer answer is, “Why don’t you ask Eva Hill of Huffington Post. She made it… Was it to make people smile while simultaneously teaching the world the difference between sweet potatoes and yams? Probably, but she and only she knows her motivation.”

My guest this episode is actor William B. Davis, who was a regular on The X-Files for nine years playing the secretive Cigarette Smoking Man. He will make his return this January on FOX when The X-Files comes back for a six-episode miniseries.

We discussed his character surviving into the revival, how the actual act of smoking informs the character, treating alien ‘true believers’ with rational skepticism, the perception of atheism and the skeptic community, Climate Change and the danger of mixing climate denial with politics, forming the William Davis Acting School in Canada and what the Canadian acting scene is like, his views on death and mortality, the nature of open political conspiracies, and more!

Also, there’s a new theme song/bed music this week courtesy of DJ UDACHI who you can check out over at www.soundcloud.com/udachi

As we approach the release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, people are pretty excited, but the excitement seems to be tempered with the understanding that The Phantom Menace didn't live up to the promise of it's hype.

In early 1999, the world was bracing for it’s first new Star Wars movie in 16 years. The excitement level was so high that many fans might as well have been in a galaxy far, far, away. Back then, lines to get into the theater formed nearly a month before Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was released. People camped out in front of movie theaters, living like Tusken Raiders or something, for weeks. In 2015, 10 years since our last installment (Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith), people no longer need to wait on line in the cold for days… We’ve got the internet, and Fandango.com. Take that, jerks from 1999!

Anyway, check out this video uploaded by YouTuber, Wishnow, showing just how excited people were for The Phantom Menace. Look at how much hope they had before learning what a midi-chlorian was:

As we approach the release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, people are pretty excited, but the excitement seems to be tempered with the understanding that The Phantom Menace didn’t live up to the promise of it’s hype. Thing is, Episode I did live up to the promise of it’s trailer. I mean, everything that people hate about the movie is in there, staring them in the face. Jar Jar, The Pod Race, Anakin’s acting skills, and dialogue that not even Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor could make cool. We were blinded by the hype.

Should this scare those who are excited to see what Han and Chewie have been up to for the last 30 years? I decided to look at the The Force Awakens trailer specifically looking for anything that might come back to bite us.

Not for nothing, this trailer is so much better than the clip for The Phantom Menace, at least I think it is. The only questionable moments that I can pull out include that shot of the melted Darth Vader helmet, and director, J.J. Abrams’ signature lens flares, which honestly everyone was expecting. Now, I don’t think those lens flares will ruin the movie. In my gut, I just felt like it was important to mention. The helmet however does scare me a bit. I can’t think of a very good story that would involve a melty-ass Vader grill. It could be part of a dream sequence, we don’t know. Otherwise, the rest of the new trailer is more or less void of Jar Jars.

One other thing to think about, is that the current crop of blockbuster movies have mostly been marinated in nostalgia. Sometimes the trailers are pretty honest about the movie we’re being given (think Rise of the Planet of the Apes), but then other times the trailer disguises itself like a classic that we love, thematically, while it’s actually delivering a wholly different result. One example of this is the trailer (and entire marketing campaign) for Jurassic World, whose liberal use of nostalgia (the music, the visuals, literally using footage from the original) was basically slight of hand distracting us from a move that was actually really silly and worlds different than the film being advertised.

For the record, I enjoyed Jurassic World. It was a fun popcorn movie. It’s just not what the trailers promised. It also wasn’t much like the original at all, in terms of tone. It did rub our nostalgia bones as frequently as possible, referencing Jurassic Park as much as it possibly could, so the trailer did deliver in that respect.

Maybe I’m being naive, but I’m still excited for The Force Awakens. I guess time will tell whether or not this trailer keeps it’s promise as well.

Do you recognize these lovely ladies? They’re internet superstars, Gaby Dunn and Allison Raskin, we’ve mentioned them here before! The besties are still at it, creating funny videos you can’t help but share with you friends.

Their new video The Party Prisoner hilariously depicts a situation I believe we’ve all been in. Being at a party or a get together with a friend where you want to get the hell out, but your party partner just isn’t catching you’re drift! Of course we can never come right out and say it. Both Gaby and Allison star in this sketch so, obviously, there are hilarious jokes sewn in throughout the whole video. Their facial expressions are my personal favorite. Also in the video, some of Gallison’s friends feature as other guests the party – Rachel Middleton and Taylor Fance.

Gaby Dunn and Allison Raskin are both making names for themselves on the internet. These BuzzFeed girls branched off and created a greater fan base with YouTube channels of their own. Allison and Gaby are both writers, actresses, and funny female icons that everyone should know and love. The best friends stand for women’s rights, mental health issues, and solving sexism. Fuck the patriarchy! Allison has done some pretty great stand-up, and she also writes and acts for BuzzFeed videos just like her bestie. “No Fun” Gaby Dunn started out with her 100 interviews project, which is amazingly unique and proves strong effort in her work. Known for her feminism and hatred of the patriarchy Gaby also speaks out about gender identity.

Allison and Gaby are both very open and honest about their struggles, the Youtube show sometimes touches on topics like depression, OCD and anxiety. “I am not afraid of my truth anymore,” exclaims Dunn, adding “and i will not omit pieces of me to make you comfortable.” These two ladies are amazing for younger generations to look up to, especially those with creative streaks. Making light of shitty situations the girls are able to laugh at themselves while putting on a great show.

Their YouTube Channel – Just Between Us contains skits and sessions on the couch where the girls answer questions about love. “Learn all about Allison and Gaby and their unhealthy relationship as they try to help you with yours!” The two were surprised their channel became so successful, little did they know they are the perfect mix! I love them! Keep the videos coming girls, we all will always want more!

Have you ever had a word stuck on the tip-top of your tongue that wouldn’t just go out into the world and more importantly into the ears of those politely waiting for you to say whatever it is that you’re trying to say. Well, there’s a reason for that. Today, SciShow’s Hank Green explained it to us. Apparently we have nodes in our head that do more than think about pizza. Who knew? Well, apparently Hank Green and or the writers of Sci Show. They’re very smart.

SciShow provides short clips that succinctly explain scientific ideas in a way that doesn’t activate our internet-ADD. It’s a service that I highly appreciate. I’d almost call it… um, hold on a sec, I know the word, uh, don’t tell me what it is…, um, uhhhhh, just wait a minute for me I know this… NOID!

Wait. That’s not it either. Fuck it. I want pizza now.
