With live music 6 nights a week, a Saturday/Sunday brunch menu to die for, and an incredibly friendly staff, Johnny D’s has been an anchor in Davis Square since it opened its doors in 1969. Carla DeLellis, the 2nd generation proprietor of Johnny D’s, runs the business with her husband Sean, and lots of longtime staff. (Not quite running it with the kids yet…)

Along with being very active with DARBI over the years, Carla and JD’s have also contributed to many organizational events throughout the year – Go SHC 5k Road Race!!

Johnny D’s is very happy to offer healthy choices. We try hard to make decisions on products and practices that have long term positive effects. With this in mind, you will find 100% grass fed beef, free range chicken, cage free eggs, organic ft coffee (look for our coffee grinds for your use during the growing season) and no high fructose corn syrup ketchup. No shortage of vegetarian items either, with a dedicated fryer for those fried vegetarian dishes, while avoiding partially hydrogenated oils in 99% of our offered items.
We take advantage of our great city’s recycling program and are adding more and more LED lights to our place. Please consider us your good neighbor, and although far from perfect, there is no shortage of effort.

Neighbor-to-Neighbor Workshops

DARBI residents and business people can offer “how to” workshops of any type to share their knowledge of crafts, home improvement, finance, cooking or just about anything else.

Recent DARBI workshops have included “How to Make Your Own Lip Balm and Salt Scrub” and “Basic Home Maintenance for Existing and Prospective Property Owners.” Future workshops are planned for “How to Get Great Photos of Your Child”; “Forcing Bulbs Indoors”; “Re-Designing Our Homes to Suit Our Changing Needs”; “Making the Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie”; and “How to Hire a Contractor.”

Do you have a skill or knowledge base you want to share? Help your neighbors, build your business. We’re open to (mostly) all ideas. Workshops should be between 30 min. and 1 1/2 hours. Instructors are not paid but can distribute information about their business and can charge participants a materials fee if disclosed in advance.

Our Mission

The Davis Square Area Resident-Business Initiative (DARBI), a registered 501(c)4 nonprofit association of volunteers who live and/or work in the area, aims to:

Promote Davis Square as an attractive place to live, visit, shop and conduct business.
Work together as an open association of volunteers to identify and address important community issues in Davis Square.
Provide a forum to publicize events in the Davis Square community.

DARBI formed in early 2006 as a result of residents and businesses wanting to work cooperatively for the benefit of the entire Davis Square community.

The goals we identify and act upon are those that active DARBI members are motivated by and willing to work on.
We call upon many groups and individuals in Davis Square for help in identifying needs and undertaking projects to address these needs.
We give our members the autonomy to effect change in addressing residential and business concerns in Davis Square.

DARBI occasionally holds general meetings in which we discuss current initiatives. We let the public know about these meetings via posts on this website and e-newsletters. See above to sign up for our newsletters.
