Title: Caged Heart
Author: Milly Taiden
Series: Black Meadow Pack #2
Rating: 4/5
Book Description:

After five years traveling through third world countries to teach impoverished children, Samira Suarez has returned home to Black Meadows. What Sam didn’t expect was to be instantly overwhelmed by the desire to be with the one man she’s wanted since she was a teen, Riel Karven.

Riel has been patiently waiting for Sam’s return. For five long years he’s backed off and watched her come and go. This is it. His mate is back and he’s taking a stand. Sam’s need for Ry grows to unimaginable proportions. It’s almost as if she were in heat. But she’s a human…isn’t she?

There’s more at stake than Sam and Ry’s future relationship when she inherits her grandmother’s estate. One of her many relatives wants her out of the way. It’s going to take all of Ry’s determination and help from his friends to keep her alive. And it’s going to take delving into her past to find out why a human is going into mating heat.

My Say:
I must say Sam and Riel really have a good chemistry. I love reading their passion and love. So intense, racey and I couldnt put down the stroy. Even though this is the second book in the series, I can still feel related to it and the character themselves are enough to complement the storyline. The book is very enjoyable and engaging. I totally feel connected to the story, and it is quite revealling. It is recommended!
Milly Taiden was born in the prettiest part of the Caribbean known as the Dominican Republic. She grew up between New York, Florida and Massachusetts. Currently, she resides in New York City with her husband, bossy young son and their little dog Speedy. She began writing when she learned to put words together and her first book consisted of two homeless dogs living in a park for her second grade English class. She didn’t win a prize, but she acquired a love for writing that never went away.

When she’s not working full-time, texting with her best friend Heidi in England, chastising her son for pulling the dog’s ears, shopping with her sister Jewel or watching scary movies with her husband, she can be found writing on her laptop. She’s addicted to shoe shopping, chocolate and Dunkin Donuts coffee. A major reader when she can get her hands on a good book, she loves reading all Mina Carter, Cynthia Eden, Cynthia Sax among others.
Title: Black Venus
Author: James MacManus
Pages: 368
Rating: 3.5/5
Book Description:
Addictive as opium the voluptuous Haitian cabaret singer Jeanne Duval tortured and inspired Charles Baudelaire to create poetry that would forever change the world of literature. Their love played out against the backdrop of 19th-century Paris in the Left Bank cafes and taverns frequented by such giants as Édouard Manet, Honoré de Balzac and Alexandre Dumas. Reviled by Baudelaire’s family, friends and publisher, Duval was Baudelaire’s muse, leading him to create the poetry whose dark and passionate imagery forever changed and influenced modern literature.

Baudelaire was squandering his small fortune on alcohol and women when he met Duval, who he called Black Venus and claimed as his mistress. Their fiery relationship became the catalyst for his work—without her he couldn’t write a word. Ironically, Duval scorned Les Fleurs de Mal—The Flowers of Evil—the slim volume of poems she inspired that outraged French morals causing Baudelaire and his publisher to be forced into a scandalous public trial for obscenity. What hold did she have on him that he allowed her to betray him in every possible way, driving him into debt and opium addiction even as she openly slept with his friends?

My Say:
The book is totally a jurney that I thought it would never end. So much depth in it. I was facing a quite hard time to finish the book. It started quite boring at first and slowly blooming into something I love to be in. I love the Paris setting in it. The story brought me to many lovely places that I wish I would be. Paris is just lovely and I think it's a good place for some romance story to take place. Relationship between Charles and Jean for me, is so complex. The storyline is more than just about a person, its about how the character lived and move on. Charles went through so many hardships and scandalous moments. There were times I felt the book is so flat and there's so many details like been dragged too much. Nevertheless, I love reading a new thing like a historical romance/story.

Word Count: 65,000

Book Description:

Saved by the angel sent to kill them, four half-angel boys are trained and employed as Heaven’s assassins. Jarrid and his nephilim brothers are raised as members of The Eternal Order, and must enforce Heaven’s laws by hunting down those who defy the Directorate. His only shot at freedom is Ascension, but his employers won’t permit the ancient ritual. Then Jarrid learns a Renegade angel is in Detroit. Such a high-level takedown is the answer to his prayers—all the leverage he needs to Ascend. For freedom, Jarrid is willing to do anything to lure his elusive enemy out of hiding. Even use an innocent woman as bait. News reporter Ionie Gifford has no clue an angel outlaw wants her dead. She agrees to help Jarrid, the enigmatic nephilim with penetrating silver eyes and a worship-worthy body, but only because he accepts her terms. He’s her all-access pass into the city’s supernatural underworld where she hopes to locate her mother’s killer.

Blindsided by Ionie's beauty and tenacity, Jarrid soon finds the eternity-old glacier around his heart thawing. With duty and desire at war within him, he’s forced to make a choice—either save Ionie from the trap he snared and stay chained to Heaven, or allow her to become collateral damage.

My Say:

The book is totally a sassy, saucy and sexy romance. The story is told in very delicate and breathtaking. I like the pacing of the book, I cant believe I can finish the book, and this is quite important for me as a reader. The characters might be one of the reason the story so compelling and interesting. I can never get tired of the romance, including some heart-racing romance with thrilling scenes. I was like begging for more, and even it's paranormal or urban, it is still as good as any other romance books. I'm looking forward the author's new work in future.

Title: Promises
Series: Syrenka Series #1
Author: Amber Garr
Pages: 177
Rating: 4/5
Cover rating: 4/5
Summary:
With power comes the responsibility to accept its consequences. After the betrayal of those closest to her, Eviana Dumahl struggles to cope with her new reality. Kidnapped, broken, and confused, she is forced to engage in a war that will alter merfolk politics forever. With her estranged father leading the charge, Eviana has no choice but to stand by his side. Her continued existence hinges on the acceptance of the power growing inside her, even when that means embracing the family’s dark lineage. Kain Matthew will sacrifice the world for Eviana. And he is not alone. As time runs out, her friends fight to save her life and theirs. An unlikely alliance gives them the edge they need to take a stand, although it keeps Eviana’s heart trapped in the past. A new discovery explains some of her previous mistakes, but it may not be enough to stop her father’s plans. Merfolk, selkies, and water sprites work together to save their kind, only in this final battle, not everyone will survive. In the striking series conclusion, Eviana will learn the true meaning of power, sacrifice, and love.

My Say:
I love the story so much eventhough it is quite close to a typical love story between two different people. First of all, I love it when the story is about merpeople. It's quite different from what I've used to read, maybe that's the reason I want to read the series badly. Eviana is a great character of a mermaid. She got engaged, then like someone else. It's a triagle love story and I know she's struggling a lot with herself to choose. The conflict between merpeople also comes in between. She has a lot of responsibilities and sometimes I could feel she's reluctant and doubting herself. I love her character and how the character deals with everything. She's independent, tough, and in the end, I think she can figure everything out. The story is also has a quite a pace, so it's light and you could finish in one sitting. I would recommend it to be read.
Summary:

Ellena Ripley is a bookshop owner from a rural town in the south of England – or so she thinks. But lately, she has a growing sense that life is not as it seems. At night, she dreams of a serene man who appears to be trying to tell her something; In the day, she can't shake a feeling of expectation. But of what?

Meanwhile Hector, servant of LIFE and the man from Ellena's dreams, has a dilemma. How do you tell someone they are a goddess? His previous attempts have met with disaster so he must be cautious, particularly when his new trainee, Boudica, formerly Queen of the Iceni tries to help. The question is can they succeed before it is too late?

My Say:
The book is actually in my favourite list. I like it a lot. It's totally different and even if it has a little similarity with some other books, I still thinks the book tells magic interestingly. I never read anything about goddess before, well, I think so. What made it even more interesting is they can appear like any other cute animals, like cats and dogs! There's also something reincarnation that I found so cool about it which made me so happy about it. That being said, the plot is intriguing and very well-developed. I like all the characters especially Ellena and Hector. There was very few since I read a hero character named Hector, but it's cool. I enjoyed the time I read this. However, there are a few times I felt lost and to repeat reading the whole pages. I felt like I left out an important part, but I dont know what it is. However, I can forgive it because I like the story. Please give a chance reading this book and I think you too will feel the same.
Author: BR Kingsolver
Series: The Telepathic Clans Saga #3
Rating: 3.5/5
Cover rating: 3.5/5
Summary:

The Goddess has plans for Brenna and Rebecca, and the Goddess has a wicked sense of humor. Rebecca Healy is a true wilder, growing up with no contact or knowledge of other telepaths. Discovered by a Clan member on the streets of San Francisco, she felt like she’d hit the jackpot. Finally, she knew what she was, or at least she thought she did. When Brenna O’Donnell, long-lost heir of the O’Donnell Clan, and the strongest telepath in history, is returned to her family, she and Rebecca form a tight bond. Brenna has it all, looks, money, power, and men falling all over her. Rebecca isn’t jealous, but it would be nice to find someone who would really love her and stick around in the morning. She’s intrigued by a handsome South American general, but of course, he has his sights set on Brenna. Carlos de Vargas wants more than love. His Clan has its back to the wall, and they hope for an alliance with O’Donnell. An alliance that would lead to war. The story began in The Succubus Gift and continued in Succubus Unleashed. In Succubus Rising, questions are answered and new mysteries are revealed.

My Say:
I have not read the first two books in the series but, I can relate to the story. I think this is my few times I'm reading something about succubus thingy. I also feel that the girls are the strongest team in this story. It's fast pace storyline, interesting plot and funny in between. Sometimes I felt like the story is a bit over the top, exagerative kind of way. Or maybe in a simple way, there are times I felt anoyed with the character and most of the scenes. However, I still like the book, maybe it would be different if I read the other two book. It's still good to read something out of our comfort reads. I guess anyone who likes succubus or paranormal would love this.
About the Author

I made silver and turquoise jewelry for almost a decade, ended up in nursing school, then took a master’s in business. Along the way I worked in construction, as a newspaper editor, a teacher, and somehow found a career working with computers.
I love the outdoors, especially the Rocky Mountains. I’ve skied since high school and I’ve hiked and camped all my life. I love to travel, though I haven’t done enough of it. I’ve seen a lot of Russia and Mexico, not enough of England. Amsterdam is amazing, and the Romanian Alps are breathtaking. Lake Tahoe is a favorite, and someday I’d like to see Banff in Canada.
I have a very significant other, two cats and two Basset Hounds. I’m currently living in Baltimore, nine blocks from the harbor, but still own a home in New Mexico that I see too infrequently.
Author: Stacey Kennedy
Rating: 4/5
Cover rating: 4/5
Pages: 80 (pdf)
Publisher: Ellora’s Cave (Twilight)
ISBN: 9781419942235
Length: Novella
Heat Level: Sizzling
Release date: March 1, 2013

Book Description:
Bryanna is far from the perfect witch. Shunned by her coven and her boyfriend for her unruly magic, she seeks a new life for herself in a new town—Charmstone. When Bryanna arrives in Charmstone, Zeke, a demon gone good, is burning with fire over her. Not only has she set his world ablaze, but he’s found one soul he can save. He’s determined to free her from the insecurities that have damaged her soul. Together they experience lava-hot passion as they weave their way through a tornado of emotions. But when Bryanna’s ex returns for her, Zeke will need to take a stand and hope that their lust leads to a forever love.

My Say:
It was as it says, sizzling hot! The storyline is good, and everything was easily indulged. I was totally drawn by it. Maybe I was so into the romance and I could feel the heat, it was intense! I cant imagine the attraction between Zeke and Bryanna. They are so sweet and they are seems like meant to each other. The connection also look real and the chemistry was there.

My review was quite amatur. This is my first time reviewing an erotic. But anyone who loves romance, hot-blazing coupling, this is one of the story you would like to read. Since it's a novella, you could finish it in one sitting.

Publisher’s Note: This story was previously published elsewhere under the title Whatnots & Doodads in 2011, and has been revised and expanded for Ellora’s Cave.
Stacey Kennedy writes romance that sometimes gets very naughty. She’s an urban fantasy lover at heart, but she also enjoys losing herself in dark and sensual worlds. She lives in Southwestern Ontario with her husband who gave her a happily ever after. Together, they have two small children who can always make her smile, and who will never be allowed to read mommy’s books. If she’s not plugging away at a new story, you’ll find her camping, curling up with the latest flick, or obsessing over Sons of Anarchy and Games of Thrones.
Series: The Odin Blood Series #1
Author: Ronnell D. Porter
Rating: 3/5
Cover Rating: 4.5.5
Summary (GoodReads):
Norway, 704 A.D.
The valiant King Ulfur defeated the evil that swept the seaside village of Nornör into despair; Morgan, the demon witch, has been dead for nearly twenty years. The truce between King Úlfur and the Queen of the Fae has remained intact since the day that Morgan’s dark curses vanished. It seemed that peace had finally come to the wounded souls of the village. But this peace is shaken when three curses that Morgan promised with her dying breath are placed upon the Norwegian village: who among them has cast the spell? Seventeen-year-old Erica finds herself trapped in the middle of a witch’s deadly revenge scheme with no way out but to fight for survival. On top of trying to end the curses devouring her village like a savage beast she finds herself at the center of attention when it comes to Viking King Úlfur’s three sons: Kriger, Paul, and Finn.

Three of them will fight alongside her.
Two of them want to marry her.
One of them could be the son of King Úlfur… and Morgan.

My Say:
First of all, I totally admire the book cover. Sensual and very descriptive, but I don't know if it looks Norwegian enough. Still, I like it. The story grabbed my interest from the start. The construction of the story is nearest to perfection. Until I was not so sure when all the conversation doesn't sound like it was in 704 A.D. I felt it was in the present day. Nevertheless, the book is still an attention grabber. Your eyes will keep you on the every words of the story. Another reason I like the book is because it has witchery in it. Plus, the love interest between Erica and Finn is another romance you will look after. Sweet and brief yet intense. All in all, I think we should give try the book. And I cant wait to read the sequel.

Note: I got a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Synopsis (GoodReads):
"You know not of King Bersek, Lord of Berserkers... The Berserkers are men of darkness; heartless and unyielding. They know no fear, they know no pain – and the sound of them ripping and slashing and tearing people apart by their limbs: chaos incarnate."

One year after triumphing over the events surrounding the cursed Blackthorn Dagger, Queen 'Dagger Heart' Erica receives an ominous warning from a group of survivors that arrives in her village of Nornör: an army like no other, steeped in dark necromancy, heads for her Norwegian shores. With the winter solstice quickly approaching and no sign of the black wolf that used to roam the woods of her lands, she races against time to uncover the mystery of The Necromancer, as well as the absence of her dear friend and love, Finn.

What makes Norway your choice to write about in the book?

I've had a certain attraction to the Germanic and Scandinavian cultures. This fascination goes back as far as I had remember. My mother is of Norwegian ancestry, and so genealogy was the main deciding factor in choosing a region to establish my story, but it turned out to be the driving force behind every decision made as far as building the land and the people. I remember having a very vague, very slight interest in Vikings, but nothing beyond what was involved in their traditions, myths, and fables. "Oh, that bloke was a Viking king - that's nice, now tell me all about the monsters!" And then, after being burned out on a different book series that I'd been trying to wrap my head around enough to keep going, I happened upon a History Channel documentary about Viking culture, and I was very surprised to learn just how complex they were, and how misrepresented they had been during my adolescence. They were not, in fact, horn-helmed barbarian warriors with godly statures. In fact, they weren't even remotely intimidating as far as we're concerned today, having an average height of 5'6". So I thought it would be nice to explore this very different era and research it, and Norway 700AD is quite different from Norway 2013AD, but not in terms of savagery. There was a complex system of laws to uphold a great sense morality. For all the pillage and plunder of kings, most of their society happened to be exemplary at the time. However, like most cultures of old, there was still the unfortunate societal acceptance of women as property, and that was something of a focus for me, since I had a young female lead who was in the age range of being bartered off by her father, and I placed her in an unusual situation where she had a greater sense of freedom than even her young male companion, but in the end she was still bound by her gender. So Norway also helped build up her character as more of a resistance fighter than a simple girl who just falls in love and does what she's told. Her role is somewhat a fighter against the people, but for the people at the same time.

Ronnell D. Porter was raised in Ogden, Utah, and now resides in Denver, Colorado. During his free time he plays the violin, dabbles in graphic design, and, of course, thoroughly enjoys writing stories. He believes that a novel written simply to entertain does its readers a disservice; instead, a book's narrative should always change the way we perceive the world around us, and grant us a little more wisdom than we had when starting the story.

Author: Liz Schulte
Page: 350
Rating: 4.5/5
Cover Rating: 4.5/5
Summary (GoodReads):
For Selene Warren being a witch is no big deal. She dabbles in harmless magic with her friends and never thinks much about it. However, when a stranger who seems to know her shows up at her studio and her grandmother is brutally attacked, her simple life becomes complicated.

A world of elves, half-elves, fae—and one peculiar Sekhmet named Femi open up to her. She will discover that fairy tales are real, politics are ugly in any world, and there is a lot more to her life than she ever dreamed possible.

This new reality threatens swallow Selene whole, but with a forgotten past beating down her door, she will have to dive in to save her future.

My Say:
I’ve been reading a lot of withes and paranormal lately. I know that and I’m not complaining. For now, I think they are been drugging me with luscious story that I cant say no or put down. A story about Selene, part Elf and part human character totally intrigued my interest and I was delighted to learn that the whole story is totally intelligent. The storyline is exciting and developing quite ok throughout the whole story till the end. I love all the characters and each of them, which I don’t think is too crowd because they have a reason to be on there, which also complete the story. I also found that the story is funny and with few quirky dialogues in between the lines. Even though there was a lot of chapters, they are short chapters and it kinds of made the story have a fast pace, which I think the book can be read in one sitting, other than you will fill wasted if you put it aside for a moment. On the other hand, I have to say that I imagined Cheney as Legolas @ Orlando Bloom the whole time. I don’t know but he seems to fit the character. All in all, I think anyone who adores paranormal romance, elves, and witches, should pick up and read the book. It’s very entertaining and fully recommended it as I will get her next sequel in the series.
Synopis: One simple revelation about her past turns Selene Warren’s life upside down. Determined not to let her elf half ruin her future, she fights for the love she’s found at Cheney’s side, despite her increasing doubts about the bond they share. However, when her studio burns down, a new enemy emerges and threatens the lives of those she holds most dear. To save one of her friends from a gruesome death, she must expose who she was and put more than just her life on the line. Her only hope is deciphering her past in time to save them all, but the more she learns, the less she can trust anyone.
Many authors claim to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte, however, didn't always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much more.

When Liz isn't writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky, supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between.
Series: The Foundlings #1
Cover Rating: 4.5/5
Awards: Received 2nd place in the 2011 Reader View Awards
Summary (GoodReads):
After the worst year of his life, all Donnie wanted was happiness, and when he met Abbie, he was sure he had found it. But their happiness together is placed in jeopardy after a chilling a encounter. They are dragged in to the world of Vampires. Orphaned, now they must fight to survive, fight to live and fight to keep their love alive. They find themselves outcasts in this world, the world of the Foundlings. In the vampire world of Foundlings, their kind is hunted mercilessly. Donnie and Abbie meet Espee and Nox, who along with other Foundlings stand to protect their members. As the leader of the den, Espee teaches them to survive, to hide, and to avoid detection from the formal Bloodlines. You see every vampire originated from a Bloodline Source, and each Bloodline could only birth a certain number of vampires from its Source. As it turned out, Foundlings complicated the formal Bloodlines’ plans and their possible numbers. For every risen Foundling, there would be one less vampire available to the corresponding Bloodline. Every formal Bloodline down the line, from the Reich all the way to the Old Ones, cared little for Foundlings. The reason for their hatred was unknown to every Foundling. To every Bloodlines, these bastard offspring, these “accidents,” were simply intolerable.

Can Donnie and Abbie's love survive? Can Espee figure out a way to protect her kind? She sees something in Donnie, something she has never seen in any other Foundling. Will he be the key?

My Say:
I like the book cover so much and I think it looks very classic and vintage. Maybe only in my eyes. The story on the other hand was actually quite satisfying since I was intrigued after reading the synopsis. The last classic vampire book I've read was Dracula. Reading this one seems to remind me of it. The author actually introduces the other side of vampires, as if they do act and live like any other human beings. The mixed of history manipulation kind of interesting, i.e Vampire Nazis. I have to admit that is genius. However, of course there's a flaw, I felt like he has many to tell, i.e, characters, which me sometimes lost track of it. But the main characters are great. The love relation they have, for me is enough to say that they do have the sparks, but to say it has blown me away, not really. Other thing that totally made me hooked was that I was fascinated by different bloodlines and powers that they have. I thought that was cool. I'm very looking forward to read the sequel, to know how much will the characters grow.

Note: I got a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Author Guest Post

What would happen if there are vampires really blending into our human community? Would it be like what happened in X-Men?

I actually cover this in The Foundlings, it’s actually a big part of joining a Bloodline, a process that I called the detachment. Its sole purpose is to make sure no one would be looking for you, and that you would not be on any missing persons lists. After a generation those files are closed and you can move about freely, even establishing a new identity. I surmised that since technology is so advanced today, that faking ones death was really the best way to go to stay completely hidden. There are others too, but in the Foundlings this is the detachment that is selected. I think that if the general population knew about vampires, that yes they would hunt them down. So I believe that vampires would do as they have always done, place thralls in power to control the flow of information, and by extension protect their secret. Like in X-men specialized techniques would evolve to deal with the threat, which some organizations that are in conflict with the vampires now use. Foundlings in many ways are like Mutants from the X-men, they cannot join the Bloodlines nor would they be accepted by the government, or would they, hmmm? Sorry lost my train of thought there, but I may explore that concept in the future. Readers who like the X-men should enjoy the book immensely. One of my readers, who enjoyed the book, drew many comparisons to the X-men as he read the story. After he made that comment I began to see them as well. For example the Reich Bloodline has an ability which they call the “Die Mauer” It translates into “The Wall” in German. This ability allows them to turn their flesh into living marble, a lot like Colossus’ ability to turn his flesh into living metal. I hope that after reading the guest post you decide to give the story a try.
About the Author

Born and raised in NJ, R.M. Garcia is the son of Puerto Rican parents who moved to NJ from PR shortly after getting married. He has two younger siblings, twins, Eric and Erica. Growing up he was a simple child who never asked for much because his imagination provided him with everything he would ever need. He was considered a dreamer by all of his teachers, but he never thought that was a bad thing. R.M. was initially very shy until he got older and stopped caring what others thought about him. Either you liked him or you didn’t but he was always true to himself. He has been called weird, quirky, funny, and trustworthy; all titles he holds dear. R.M. originally wrote the short story of The Foundlings when he was still in High School and it was not until much later that he fully developed it into a book. Back in the day, he used to write poetry and often compared his work to the work of a friend, Travis, who was far better at poetry in R.M.’s opinion. After High School, R.M. moved to Florida where he attended college before dabbling in varied professions over the next several years. Such jobs included Hotel Manager, Accountant, Insurance Agent, Travel Agent, Customer Service Rep, Draftsman, and even a Fry Cook. When R.M. started writing his book, he realized that writing was his true passion and what he is ultimately meant to do.

R.M. loved writing The Foundlings and even if it does not become a bestseller, he will continue to write. God willing, and with the help of his fans, The Foundlings will make a mark in the literary world.
Title: Endless
Author: Tawdra Kandle
Series: King series #4
Rating: 4/5
Cover Rating: 3.5/5
Summary (GoodReads):
After the tumult of her high school senior year, all is right in Tasmyn Vaughan’s world. She’s attending college with her boyfriend, and she’s learning to control her powers. Everything is finally perfect, until it isn’t. When her new part-time job leads to more than she bargained for, she is thrown into a deadly fight against forces of evil that she didn’t even know existed. Mastering her extraordinary gifts—along with the strength of an endless love—may be the only weapon that can guarantee her a happily ever after.

My 2 Cents:

I read the book without actually realizing the book is book
4 and the final book in the King series. From the start, the story was
compelling and I was literally drawn till the last page. Tamsyn is a very cool
girl character. She has superpower and she does not seem to hate or like it.
She’s more like just okay with it, which make me think how cool she is. I can’t
say that without reading the first 3 books, but I’ve read reviews about them
and I think I might have been right. Michael on the other hand is super hot. He’s
cool, not too cocky or too protective (which sometimes make me feel bored of
typical boyfriend character). He is a boyfriend that every girl would want one.
The author also made their love relationship so natural; maybe because the book
is already the final book, but I have no complaints about that, just love them.
I think the story is very constructive, the flow is good and I don’t think I
missed any part of the story. Towards to the end, I think the author also did a
good job to summarize up the story. It’s not like very predictable happy
ending, it makes you wonder a bit and I would probably think that is genius way
to make readers wanting more. That being said, I hope I can read more from the
author as I am actually got Fearless to read. Yeay!

Author: Ashley Ribertson
Cover Rating: 4/5
Summary:
Half-vampire Abby Tate is determined to learn more about the sorceress powers that were awakened inside her when she was turned into a vampire—making her a whole new hybrid species. There’s a group of rogue vamps banding together and forming a Resistance against the vampire governing body, The Head Council, and Abby’s newly discovered powers are the key to the Council’s victory. Now the Resistance will do anything possible to remove the hybrid threat, and with no other options, Abby is forced to rely on the aid of the Council, yet can she trust the very vampires that hunt for her human lover? And even worse, can she fight the unwelcome attraction that’s growing between her and one of those ancient vampire rulers?

My 2 Cents:
I read the book without reading the first book in the series. I dont know the history of it but I could say the I can pick up the whole story. I love vampires, including the sparkling one. Give me any vampire book, than I would totally immense in it. Same goes to Crimson Flames. How crimson the flames would be? With a lot of actions, skills and kicking character like Abby, what could I ask for more? Abby makes me thinking about Kate Beckinsale in Underworld. So freaking awesome, with a lot of actions, deep glaring eyes. Oh, so sexy. The story line is actually kind of impressive. How many books will incorporate magic/sorcerer in? So many time it was always Vampires and Werewolf love interest or hybrid, and then this one just will make a new trend of it. There's lot of power progressive in the book, the character keep growing and well-shaped. I like Abby, I like her personality and I could imagine her as independent girl. I know it will have another sequel for sure, but I like most, I dont think felt there's a cliffhanger in the story. Her writing is good, I mean she picturing Abby and other characters without any too much details. It is just pack and condense, very straightforward. The book is totally recommended.
My Say:

This book is actually kind of psycopath-ish. I have no idea what it would be to be in the character's shoes. It was definitively draining my emotion to really feel her. Can you imagine the whole family members are crazy? Like literally crazy? The writing of the story is actually quite straight forward, straight to the point, of course you will not get the whole picture first, but that's the beauty of reading an unpredictable twist story. The characters are realistic though quite unbelievably mean. Now I know why secrets are so important to Samantha. What to tell if the past of your life will be a threat towards your future? Yeah, it sounds too unrealistic, but I don't think it's impossible to not to happen to anyone. A fiction could be from a real life story, don't you think? I'm quite impressed with Samantha of how she could bear all the burden of her secrets, even more when her secrets are near to be exposed. It was very intriguing that every page I turn to made me feel nervous. This is my first book of Darcia Helle and very impressed. The book is really recommended.

Author Guest Post

What's your opinion
about white lies? Seems like everyone lies when they want to keep the
secret unbroken.

This is an interesting question. The vast majority of people
tell white lies every day. Imagine what life would be like if we were forced to
tell the complete truth all the time. Your coworker brings her new baby to the
office to show him off, and asks, “Isn’t he beautiful?” You say, “No, actually
he’s the ugliest baby I’ve ever seen.” Or you visit your parents and your
mother excitedly asks, “What do you think of the new living room furniture?”
Your reply is, “The color is hideous. What were you thinking?”

In these instances, most of us will opt for the white lie.
We’ll agree the baby is beautiful and tell our parents the living room looks
great. We don’t do this as much for our own benefit as to spare the feelings of
the other person. No one is getting hurt by these white lies. I think of them
as a form of social etiquette.

Sometimes what we consider to be a white lie is more about a
keeping secret. Maybe you don’t want your best friend to know you’re still in
touch with her ex-husband. You keep that secret from her in order to preserve
your relationship. This kind of lie of omission is different than a white lie
in that it is often more about benefiting the person telling the lie or keeping
the secret. There’s more of a gray area here. In a sense, you’re still lying to
protect the other person’s feelings, but you’re also being deceitful to protect
yourself. And someone is often hurt by this type of lie, which makes it less a
white lie and more an outright lie.

When I did the final edit for my novel Secrets, I did some research into the science and psychology of
keeping secrets. Of course, lying isn’t necessarily involved in secret keeping.
Sometimes we choose not to speak on the issue at all, hiding whatever the
secret is in silence. Other times keeping a secret involves telling elaborate
tales, lies woven together that stretch far beyond the white lie. What I found
in my research is that the main reason we keep secrets is to avoid judgment. I
think this is often true of why we tell lies, as well. Maybe you’d be
embarrassed if your coworkers knew you’d been married to the same man three
times, having divorced him twice early in your relationship. You lie to them,
using your first wedding date as your anniversary. You ask your husband to do
the same. Clearly, you and your husband are both lying and keeping a secret.
But you’re not hurting anyone by doing so. It’s not anyone else’s business how
many times you marry and divorce the same person.

A white lie is typically defined as a lie told to avoid
upsetting the other person. This is not a lie told for self-gain or to hurt
someone else. Given these parameters, a lot of the lies we tell each day, the
ones we claim are white lies, are just plain lies.

To answer your original question, I think true white lies
are a harmless and often beneficial part of our daily interaction. But we need
to be clear in our own minds about the reason we’re telling them.

Suspense, random blood splatter and mismatched socks consume Darcia’s days. She writes because the characters trespassing through her mind leave her no alternative. Only then are the voices free to haunt someone else’s mind.
Title: Winter
Shock
Series: The Grimoire Chronicles #2

Author: Sally
Dubats
Rating: 3.5/5
Cover Rating: 3/5

Summary:
“Trenton drugged and kidnapped me. I was powerless.”
Cassie’s neighbors have secrets, and she is one of them. A Witch taken against her will to an isolated, frozen wilderness on an
impossible quest, Cassie defends herself against Trenton who has gone over to
the dark side. One minute he’s adorable and charming, and the next weird,
uncaring, and hostile. And now, Cassie fears for her life. Winter Solstice draws near, and Cassie performs magical spells to gain clarity.
Instead she is shocked by visions and mind jumps into the lives of strangers on
the brink of disaster. Why is she in a hostile, threatening wilderness? What is causing the horrific
visions? Cassie discovers there is much more at stake than her own survival. To
survive, she must overcome impossible odds.

My Say:
The book is the sequel in The Grimoire Chronicles, Veil Between Worlds. Even though I have not read the first book, I think we can catch up without knowing much details in the first book. I think the story was ok. I was not really excited reading it because I dont really into the characters. I think the chemistry between the two character of love interest is not really there. I would say Trenton is trying too much to be cool. Hey, maybe it's just me. But I must admit, the story has good plot line.Minus the dialogues. I feel awkward about those quite immature dialogues. Also, maybe it does not have a complementary between the plot line and the characters that made me less drawn to. The magic and fantasy the author created was quite realistic and me me wondering al the time. Of course, there's twist and turn that spice things up, which is a good thing and made the book better. But I still recommend readers to try. Maybe you will have different opinions about it.
Synopsis (Amazon | GoodReads):

Seventeen is a life changing age for Emma Wise. As her family's sole survivor in a car crash, she is left with
a broken arm and a few scrapes and bruises. But these are only outward marks;
inside, her heart is broken and the pieces scattered. Whisked away to Alaska,
to an aunt she’s never met, Emma starts over. Secrets unveil themselves and
now…she doesn't even know who or what she is. A centuries old prophecy places Emma in the heart of danger. Creatures of
horrifying and evil proportions are after her, and it will take Emma, her aunt,
and six, gorgeously captivating Guardians to keep her safe. But, if she can
survive until her eighteenth birthday... things will change.

My Say:
I actually want to give it 1 star. because I hate a cliffhanger when the book if so good that you might melt all the way to the finishing line. Then I know it would not be good because 1 star means no one ever pick the book later and I dont want that. Go Cameo! The book is so so so cool! The best part I think it would be the fast pace of the story. I dont even realize I can finish the book in one sitting, couple hours. However, the whole situation of the book only took a few days, and quite awkward a little bit, but I will look at it in a positive way when most people would say, lives can change in blink, right? Also, when there's boys fighting over a girl, I usually find it irritating, but somehow Emma is not all over the boys (and yes, the boys are CUTE!) which made her looks so cool. She's independent, can I say she was like tough like Katniss Everdeen? Ops, sorry THG fans! Yeah, she is a great heroine character, as well as other characters. The progress of the book and the characters are well developed. I totally hope that the sequel of the series will be as good as the 1st book or better. The book is totally a book you cant miss to read. Pick this now and ensure you will not frustrated.

Book Excerpt:

“Thanks guys. I’m gonna miss you SO much,” I said, as tears stung my eyes again.

“We’re going to miss you too! What are we going to do without you our last, crucial year? We’re finally going to be seniors,” Lia said, her eyes tearing as soon as she saw mine.

Jeremy looked at me, and a single tear grazed his cheek. He quickly turned away and lifted his glasses, quickly wiping his face with his shirt. That was the first time I’d ever seen Jeremy get emotional.“You guys will be fine. And it won’t be forever. I promise to email and send pictures.”

“You better,” Lia said, wagging her finger at me.And then… something happened. A sudden euphoric feeling; an unexplainable heat shot through every cell in my body. My pulse quickened, along with my breath, and tingles pricked my skin. Arush of adrenaline flooded my veins and my surroundings began to haze. I grasped onto the edge of the bed, taking in long, deep breaths.

“Hey, are you okay?” Jeremy asked, scooting over to me, grabbing hold of my shoulders.

“Emma, what’s wrong?” Lia called, jumping behind me, pounding my back.Hello! I’m not choking! I wanted to speak those words, but I couldn’t answer them. It was like all the breath had been sucked out of my lungs. Then…there was a knock at the door, and we all turned to look.

Title: The Chronicles of Trellah, Book One: The Perpetual Rain
Author: T.S. Graham
Pages: 164
Rating: 4/5
Cover Rating: 2/5

Summary:
Fourteen-year-old Sophina Murray will be the first to tell you: Bad luck comes in threes. First, her father is lost at sea. Then, the rains start . And don't stop. And finally, her little brother is taken from his bed by a monster straight from her worst nightmare. A glimpse into the parallel universe of Trellah - a land of giant trees, bizarre creatures, and a glowing red mineral with mystical properties - convinces Sophina that all may not be lost. But first, she'll have to survive in a hostile world where her darkest fears live and breathe. Trellah is an original and realistic fantasy for ages 12 to 112. Parental guidance suggested for advanced readers ages 10-11 for moderate elements of horror.

My Say:

The book is full
of imaginations. Maybe a little like Alice
in Wonderland with a Fringe-ish kind of Twist. However, the book has the horror
that I feel like it is well complimented the adventurous storyline. Apart of the
adventure, the story started with mysteries. I know it sounds as if the book is
complicated read, but trust me, the author did it well to make simple with words
and full of emotions. Sophina, losing her father and a missing brother are very
tough for a 14-year old girl to accept and face it alone. Of course, with no
one to be with her, looking for her brother is the best way to avoid her from
being lonely forever. And now I know why the author love Sophina the most
(please read the interview below!). As I love Harry Potter and The Lords of the
Ring, I love the magical things the author included in the book. Simple words
to describe things in sentences made my imaginations easy. Even with simple
words, not too much unneeded details, the characters in the books are actually
quite well-developed. It has a progress which increased, at the right pace
towards the ending. Until I reached the last page, I never thought the story is
already ended. For a debut novel, I think T.S. Graham made his bid well.

Interview with the Author

What inspired you to write the book?

My
family, without question. Having read countless bedtime stories to my five
daughters, I decided it was time to spin them a tale from my own heart and
mind.

Who is your favorite character in the
book and why should we love him/her too?

For
me it’s Sophina, because she is a combination of all five of my daughters. She
is brave, loyal, stubborn, and there is no one else like her in this world or
any other. When times get desperate, her mind gets sharper. I think that’s what
most people look for in a hero.

Tell us why people should read your
book?

If
you’re looking for a fresh take on the YA fantasy genre, free of vampires,
witches, werewolves, magic, and talking animals, then “The Chronicles of
Trellah” may be just what the doctor ordered. If you’re obsessed with the status
quo, then my book may be out of your comfort zone.

What books have most influenced your
life?

For
me it’s always been about Stephen King. He has the talent and education to
write Pulitzer Prize winning works, but he chooses to thrill and entertain
instead. He taught me to write for myself and my audience (in this case YA),
and not to worry about what those who prefer works outside my genre think. A
writer’s genre can change with each new book, but they always need to put their
intended audience ahead of the big-time critic who might scoff at their
creation.

What is the most recent book you read?

I
have two girls under the age of 6, so it’s all about picture books at my house.
The stories we revisit the most are “Where the Wild Things Are,” “The Napping
House,” and anything by Dr. Seuss. I would love to write a children’s book
someday. In many ways, I think it would be harder than writing a novel.

If you are not a writer, who would you
be?

A
scientist. It would be my job to find a safe, natural cure for folks who suffer
from irrational stress. Seriously…. No matter how many times you ask certain
people to take a deep breath and chill, it never seems to work. My wife and
children are not included in this equation. They’re always chill. ;p

Any advice for young authors?

Always
write for yourself first, your audience second, and… well, there is no third.
That’s it.

Graham was born and raised in midcoast Maine. He has worked as a sea urchin diver, fish monger, home renovator, and in several group homes for children and adults with disabilities. His original screenplay, Stone's Point, written as Clint Elliott, has won multiple awards. He studied English Literature at the University of Southern Maine, where, despite developing a strong dislike of the traditional curriculum focused on old, dead (and boring) scribes, he somehow managed to graduate with honors. His greatest influences are writers like Stephen King and Michael Crichton, whose talents would have allowed them to write more literary fare, but they chose to thrill and entertain instead. He now lives on a horse farm with his beautiful wife and five daughters, two poodles, two cats, two happy turtles, four playful ferrets, three fish, a corn snake named "Tiger," dozens of chickens, and, of course, four awesome equines. The Chronicles of Trellah, Book One: The Perpetual Rain is his debut novel.

I read Mark of the Witch few days before cant wait to finish the second book. As I predicted, the second book is much better even when there's a few unsatisfactory scenes in my opinion. The best thing I like about the book is more details on Caroline, the other twin sister. Normally, it's either a balance with the hero and heroine, but this time, I wont say Caroline is only a supporting character when she's also a heroine. When there's a minor clash between Caroline and Jilly, I was kind very nervous, in case Caroline will lose her way or vice versa. Blood is thicker than water. No matter how bad your sibling is, they're still pat of you. That was what I thought about Patrick, the so-called evil brother of William. There was a twist about him that O would never have guessed, but it happened. All the characters played their part quite good and I was impressed with new powers too (Maybe I just love superheroes and spells too much). Of course, when there's a sequel, means there will be new character as well, and lead to another cliffhanger! As much I love the book, this part made me kind of hate it. In a good way though. I would love to read the author's third book in the series. Hope it will be real soon!

Summary (Goodreads):
Magic flows through Jillian Proctor's veins as surely as blood, but so far her life outside Boston has been peaceful. William Morgan blows into Jilly's life like a hurricane, unleashing her magic and sending her out of control. Unknowingly, William brings an enemy who only wants to posses the power of the witch. Jilly must learn to harness her magic before she loses it - and everything in her life is destroyed.

My 2 Cents:
This book is the first book of Boston Witches series. Physically, the book is a short story of a twin sisters, Jillian (Jilly) and Caroline. How I root for sisters protagonists! Once, I read a book (which I love the movie, Practical Magic) also about sister's act, not twin though. It was quite a while I read something like this. It is such a great read to know that both characters get even and ample story about them in a book. I don't think either of them get outshone by one another. It's a great love story too, just when one of them facing marriage's problem. There's also William, a hunk that is immortal, has love interest with Jilly and I think they made a lovely couple even though Jilly is kind of fierce? The story is quite straight forward and quite predictable. Maybe there's one flaw that I would highlight here; character's development is just so-so.But even with that, the characters are still likable. I like them. However, the next book is way better!

Title: The Summoner
Author: Layton Green
Series: Dominic Grey #1
Rating: 4/5
Cover Rating: 4/5
Summary (Add to Goodreads):
A United States diplomat disappears in front of hundreds of onlookers while attending a religious ceremony in the bushveld of Zimbabwe.

Dominic Grey, Diplomatic Security special agent, product of a violent childhood and a worn passport, is assigned to investigate. Aiding the investigation is Professor Viktor Radek, religious phenomenologist and expert on cults, and Nya Mashumba, the local government liaison.

What Grey uncovers is a terrifying cult older than Western civilization, the harsh underbelly of a country in despair, a priest seemingly able to perform impossibilities, and the identity of the newest target.

Himself.

The first work in a globe-hopping series whose protagonists investigate the world’s most bizarre and dangerous cults, The Summoner is a stylish, haunting novel of mystery and suspense that will linger long after the last page is turned.

My 2 Cents:
It is quite a while for me to read a thriller type of books. I love these kind of books, but the problem is, I cant put it away to stop for a while. If I do that, I would be so frustrated. One thing for sure, a thriller books need your attention more than anything. It's grabbing you and you cant abandon it just like that, like continue reading it later. It will kill the mood totally.

Layton Green's novel The Summoner is one of those thriller books to die for. Yes, it is complicated, action-packed and attention grabbing. If the book provide these kind of things, why would you stop reading and continue later. Such a waste. The plot is thrilling, so intense and made me nervous every time I flipped the pages. Plus, Zimbabwe as location of the story, is something very very interesting. I always find Zimbabwe as an exotic place. As the story deepens, so many secrets that are so intriguing and I kept asking why and what? It's predictable for me because there must be a twist and turns at the end.Of course I am right and always being surprised of the twists. However, I think the characters are so-so, not really that developed like the story. Everything was there, but I dont think I know the protagonist that well, and something missing about other character as well. That being said, I think the book has a good package of good thriller book, excluding the character flaws. A recommended read for sure.
About the Author

In addition to writing, Layton attended law school in New Orleans and was a practicing attorney for the better part of a decade (even though he still resents having cut his hair for that first interview). He has also been an intern for the United Nations, an ESL teacher in Central America, a bartender in London, a seller of cheap knives on the streets of Brixton, a door-to-door phone book deliverer, and the list goes downhill from there.

He has traveled to more than fifty countries, lived in a number of them, and has a burning desire to see every country, city, beach, moor, castle, cemetery, twisted street and far flung dot on the map. Religion and cults, as well as all things spiritual and supernatural, have also been a lifelong interest.
Summary:
Monarchy ended long ago in Korea, but there are still other countries with Kings, Queens, princes and princesses. What if Korea had continued monarchism? What if all the beautiful palaces which are now only historical relics were actually filled with people?! What if the glamorous royal family still maintained the palace customs?! Welcome to a world where Korea still has the royal family living their lives! Only for one high school girl, Che-Kyung, is this a tragedy, since she has to marry the prince who apparently is a total jerk!

My Say:
I've been following the series like years back. It took so long and sometimes I lost track of time to continue reading the next chapters of volume. When I browsing GReads, it just came across my mind that I need to read this and lucky me, I found out that the series already came to an end. I read it online at my favorite manga site and spent the whole day reading.

I actually watched a Korean drama adapted from the manhwa (manga term for Korean). It's called Princess Hour and I love it so much! It may not the same as the manhwa, but still have the same plot and the same characters. I love all the characters and yes, with great graphic and drawings, you'll fall in love with it easily for sure. There's a conflict in the royal family that more or less gave bigger impact than Che-Kyung never imagine would happen to her, but it did. Like when I watched the drama, I also cried when I read any sad parts in the manhwa. On the other hand, the story has their funny side too. I laughed hard when there's awkward parts, you know when the author draw the funny faces on the characters.

Even though I am so happy that the series already ended and I know the ending, it also made me sad. The love between Che-Kyung and the prince, I need to know more but maybe that's the best. Please give it a try if you also love manga like I do.
Cover Rating: 3.5/5
Summary:
In the explosive opening to an exciting new mystery series, private investigator Burr Ashland learns that his best friend, a history professor, has been murdered.

Burr is plunged into an investigation that puts him in the middle of a violent struggle not just between the present and the past, but between good and evil.

My Say:
First of all, I love short chapters! It races up the paces a lot, literally. I find the book very interesting, action-packed and even though it's not quite detailed, I feel better that way because I still can understand the plot of the story. It may seems it is like a cozy mystery book, I still think the simplicity of the story doesn't means it is less complexity. The story is just got the balance of how to go deeper when it is needed and straight cut to the chase when it's near to brake the mystery. The best part, I didn't see it coming. There's a twist, as we all can guess what will happen at the end, and it never bores you no matter how many times you read mystery books. And this book is one of them. A good read and recommended!
Summary:
Leah is a young woman who is trying to break free from a strict religious background
and pursue her dream as a pianist in the world of show business. While trying to find
her independence her heart is held captive by Jason Rowe a local basketball star who
established an organization to help troubled youth. When Jason is found murdered in
his home, Leah is determined to get answers from a closed investigation. During her state of emotional turmoil, Leah finds comfort not only in the melody of her music, but in
the arms of a married man named Calvin. With her dreams at her fingertips, Leah is
tangled in a web of lies and deceit. Despite the fear of learning the truth, Leah has to
realize that only the truth can set her free.

My Say:
I have a mixed feeling about the book. Apart of being a book of mystery or suspense that I would read, the book actually leave me wonders about every details of the characters. I wouldn't say there's so much things I don't like when the story is quite good. A short story with such a condense plot may be one of the reason why. Sometimes I felt the story have some hangings despite of the tense of the situations. Leah's character for me is quite shaky, or maybe that's what her character is. She's quite insecure with herself when is a very a talented pianist but somehow when she tried to find out the murder, she seems brave and knows what to do.

Whilst the book might have a tiny flaw, I still find the book is a good book to kill some time. It's a fast read and the book has quite good twist in the end.
Summary (GoodReads):
Stirring the flames of age-old controversies, The Eighth Scroll by Laurence B. Brown draws on the three Abrahamic faiths of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam to create an unbelievably dynamic and powerful story. Set in a world that teeters between orthodoxy and heresy, this thriller is packed with intrigue and adventure. When a Roman Catholic scholar involved in the Dead Sea Scrolls Project hides one of the scrolls because of the heretical message it contains, no one is the wiser until decades later, when a prominent archeologist discovers reference to the scroll in an archeological dig. This discovery spurs the world religions into a dangerous game of cat and mouse, in which all who seek the hidden scroll are mysteriously silenced, leaving the salvation of humankind to a father and son, who must either find the hidden scroll . . . or die trying.

My Say:
Yeah, I think he has things that is similar to the non other Mr. Dan Browm. However, this author also has his own style of writing. It's so complicated and sometimes I need to turn to previous pages so that I cant recall or see a better picture of it. Not because I'm having short-memory but it's tricky when it comes to history, myths and religions. But the book is not as hard time as I had with Dan Brown's books, and you don't want to know I confused I am with his books because he is freaking genius! The author also has his good quality of being a good storyteller. I feel like the plot line was well-researched and the mysteries are so intriguing. I dont have a problem of any other religions even I am a Muslim/Islam. It did made me some thinking and kind of made me understand better and sometimes I felt how easy a writer can twist everything to make things spicy and interesting. Oh, maybe that's why we call it fictions! And the book is also packed with actions and adventures, and so many places mentioned! I say, anyone who loves a good mystery/thriller/suspense, to give the book a try. I did, and I like it.
Publisher: Royal Colours Inc.
Rating: 4/5
Cover Rating: 3.5/5
Summary:
Hyalee Smith is dead, she just doesn’t know it yet.

Her short life was devoted to love and to hate. Love of the man who stole her heart, hate for the man who stole the world. Murdered by the government she swore to destroy, fate has given her another chance to make it right. But to save the planet, she needs the help of the most powerful mystic the world has ever seen—unfortunately he hasn’t been born yet.

In a world where fear is the only currency, Dephon has committed the ultimate crime: inspiring hope.

His only goal is to make it safely through ninth grade, but on a post-apocalyptic Earth run by the Treptonian government, it isn’t that simple. Heir to a legendary power, Dephon Johnson is the only threat to the government’s rule. And on Trepton, all threats must be eliminated. When hundreds of assassins are dispatched to neutralize him, Dephon is forced to fight back. His only chance of survival is to enlist the aid of the greatest warrior the world has ever known. The only problem is, she's been dead for 13 years.

My Say:
When I first read the synopsis, I was like amazed, when it is a story about someone that is already dead. As I read the story, the plot is quite intense and very thrilling despite of having more than 500 pages. While I feel the book is quite fun, sometimes I feel quite dragged with the plot. And there's also part when I think the story should be telling more of Hyalee's past. But that is what I think personally. Even though I felt that way, honestly, the book have some interesting perks as there are twist and turns that spice up the adventure. One more thing for sure, I could not resist myself of comparing it with The Hunger Games, only that this book has male protagonist character, and it's better that way. It's not that I want to label which is the best, but in few ways, similarities doesn't really brings I just hope the second book will be more intense and full of chilling thrillers.

About the Authors
Folami and Abeni Morris are a sister-sister writing team. Together they wrote (and rewrote) The Exemeus series, somehow managing to accomplish it without murdering one another. Despite their tendency to finish each others thoughts and stick up for each other constantly, no, they’re not twins and thus deserve their own individual bio.

Folami Morris
Folami grew up in the tiny city of San Mateo Ca, where nothing ever happens and no one ever leaves. She went to Xavier University for undergraduate, getting her B.A in physics and her B.S in Biology. After graduation she returned to California, to live in an even smaller city, where even less happens, Antioch Ca. During this time she escaped the monotony by hanging out with her imaginary friends Hyalee and Dephon, and by writing the Exemeus.
She finally escaped to Queens NY and now realizes that quiet and tiny aren’t so bad.

Abeni Morris
As luck (and logic) would have it, Abeni grew up in the same tiny little town as her sister, then she too escaped to the tinier town of Antioch. She has yet to leave. She received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood development from Cal State East Bay. She is the mom of two amazing kids, who swear that they deserve a percentage of the book proceeds and a ton of the credit. At least she raised dreamers.

Summary (Goodreads):

The dystopian novel ‘Godonism’ is set in the year 159, Nebula Era - a future of apocalyptic times. Ahma and Jovian, in order to survive, sign a contract with Black Petal and thus they start to sell redemptive tickets for Hereafter. Most of the people have to pawn their dreams, thoughts, memories in order to survive and therefore pay their debts to MondoCash – a half-statal, half-private bank, whilst the State deals with religo-science – the science that plans the lives of all people in advance.

My Two Cents:
It really takes a while for me to write a review for this novel. The truth is, I have a mixed feeling about the book. I love the thought of apocalyptic times, but at the same time, there was too many things going on. Somehow it felt like a scientology preaches. Yeah, it has something new and exciting about it but it is quite crazy for me; not in a bad way, and not in a good way either. Maybe dystopian is not my thing. I appreciate the author's imaginations and ideas but for me, it was a so-so story. The idea of converting souls and mind for cash is way too much (though my sister said it was cool). Perhaps the way it's being told was quite complicated and very much into details. I wish some simplicity in it. However, I still want to give it a try, and did finished it, but with doubts.

Disclaimer: I received this book from the author for an exchange of fair review. These are my honest review and receiving a copy in no way will ever reflected my review.
