Ahh…Wimbledon!

I sure do love watching Wimbledon tennis! The tourney started today and I was able to catch some of the first round matches. It really makes me wanna get out and play…I’ll be doing that tomorrow in our sweet 100 degree temps…awesome :-\

With tennis in focus, it seems my music begins to slip. I guess I do better when I have ONE thing going on at a time. However…I’m just about finished up with a new tune called ‘Holding Fast’…two more lines and it’s done. With some of the new tunes I’ve been working on, I will be re-working the list of songs for the new CD.

I will post the new list soon…and ‘Holding Fast’ just might make a good title track

Hard Work…

So…4 hours of yard work on Saturday and 2 hours of yard work on Sunday. We had a pretty desolate back yard with unlivable space. Well…our summer project was to make a good sized flower bed so that we can enjoy the space. Below is our progress:

I just love it when you have a song that is missing some lyrics and you lay down and take a nap and in that half awake, half asleep state…BAM…the words just come rushing in.

Two more lines and a new tune will be finished. :-)

Where Have I Been???

That is an interesting question…

Although I have been busy, I seem to resist the whole updating of my life thing. I dunno why really, but the notion of me posting, Twittering, FaceBooking, etc…the smallest of events of my daily life seems…well…a bit narcissistic (no offense to those who use such outlets). It obviously works for a lot of people and the whole social networking thing has become a major part of our daily lives. That being said, I will start a personal experiment. I will do my very best to post to my site at least once a week…after all, Brian did say my site sucked cuz I never update…thanks Brian! I will also do my best to update my FaceBook status once a day. I will also…*sigh*…sign up for a Twitter account and dip my anti-social toe into that crazy pool. So…experiment in effect…starting today!

Now…for what I have been up to.

Music…so, actually making some good progress on the new CD. I recorded the vocals for a tune called ‘Terra’ a couple of weeks ago. A touch up here and there and that will be one down! I also have a couple of other songs that are ready to be sung…just need to get in the studio and grind it out.

Tennis…good things happening here. Finally getting my game back after all this time…I do love it!

Aikido…dropped it. Just wasn’t feeling it…and I’ve always followed my intuition and my intuition said drop it.

Life…just doin my thing and trying to keep myself in check. Kels and I are going to Spain pretty soon. Never been across the pond and am really looking forward to immersing myself in the culture.

Ok…that’s all I’ve got…for now…more later.

Parts is parts…

So, I’m in the studio working on ‘Over My Head’. I’ve got the drums, acoustic guitar, and bass done and I need to lay down some electric guitar parts. With Strat in hand and with a new gritty guitar sound programmed I set out. At first, I start playing along with the chord progressions, just kinda chunkin’ along…not very original. Then I try picking through the notes in the chords and letting that grit ring…meh. Next, I try moving the chords to different positions on the guitar neck…hmm…not bad. Finally, I use the idea of different positions and break the chords down to a cool picking pattern that colors the chord progression just the way I like it. Success!!!

I looked at the clock and ONLY an hour and a half had past

A busy week…

Work, tennis, wood shacking, aikido…the boy is tired.

Tennis: Awesome clinic and my doubles league finals…I took third

Wood shacking: After some upgrades to my Strat, I dove in and made a sweet clean tone to make her sing. Next comes something a little…dirty…hehe. Once I get that new dirty sound, I’ll start laying down electric guitar for ‘Over My Head’

Aikido: Back on the mat after cracking a rib…man, what a workout. My falling technique is definitely rusty. Took a knee to the ribs during a fall and got a sweet bruise to show for it. What is it with bustin up my ribs??

This week should be a little more chilled out…I sure hope so

Had my Strat worked on last week…a new pickup installed. Oh does she sing…I am looking forward to woodshacking with her and getting some new guitar tones set up. Once I get those goin, I can begin to lay down some guitar parts.

Nothin’ like working with amp and effect settings to bring life to the guitar tones you hear in your head

Had a couple of days off work and was able to get in some studio time. Tracked a bass line for ‘Over My Head’ and did drums for ‘Human Condition’ and ‘Down Below’. It’s kinda cool when you’ve played a song a certain way for so long, then another instrument is added. I never thought about ‘Down Below’ with drums, but now that I’ve played it, it was pretty cool

I am a little sad…had to take one of my ladies (guitars…don’t be mad Kels) to the shop. It’s a good thing though…I am getting a new pickup installed that is gonna give me more of the sound I am looking for…can’t wait.

Funny thing about the past…ya never know when it will find you. I’ve had a couple of childhood friends find me on Facebook recently. One is a great guy I played football with. Quick feet and the nicest penmanship I have ever seen…of course I still write like a child so anything would be great :-) The other guy told me on a bus ride that once I heard the band KISS I would instantly love them because they were great. All these years later and well, (nothing against KISS or their fans) great isn’t necessarily a word that I would use to describe them…hehe. It was great hearing from those guys.

On another note, looks like I will get some studio time in this week…probably lay down the bass lines I neglected to do last week and work up the drums for a tune called ‘Human Condition’
