This week we have Richard Ashdown back on the show for the first time since his trip over to NYC and Stamford, Ct. We had such an amazing time meeting him as well as the legendary Bobby George. Its one thing to have a friendship through skype but to finally have that face to face meeting, it makes all the difference. Richard has been a huge part of this show and it was a great way to cap it all off. That’s right, we are taking a hiatus to get ready for the New World Dart Series October 12th-14th as well as I will be taking a break due to family reasons. This last show, we take time to show our appreciation to all of our listeners for being so dedicated to what we have been doing. I know this most likely comes as a surprise to all of you but we are desperately wanting to know what you think about the news this week. Episode 77-Johnny K Goes Abroad

It’s that time of year again where Johnny K joins us on the program to talk about various things happening in his career as well as his famous Toys for Tots campaign. To head off the show, we talked about his recent article titled, “Working Together In Darts…We All Win.” This article reveals the kind of guy Johnny is and stays consistent since I have known him the last few years. He truly cares about this game to put aside negativity and push this game forward. Next we talked about his trip to Australia to play in the Australian Open. The DPA welcomed him with open arms and he said he really got to see the great level of play produced in Australia. The DPA donated $100 to Toys for Tots and Phil Taylor, Russ Bray and Simon Whitlock signed three boards to be auctioned off on Ebay and the proceeds of course go to Toys for Tots as well. One other thing he wanted to get out there was his friends baby, Easton, is suffering from a rare disease called EB or Epidermolysis Bullosa. Episode 76-The Stars of Darts and Jacques Nieuwlaat

To head off the show, we talked with Paul Downey(Co-Owner of McHale’s Bar and Grill) and Anthony Eugenia(Creator of DPNY) about an event they are putting on called “The Stars of Darts.” The pros participating will be Darin Young, Larry Butler and Jim Widmayer. This will hopefully set the bar for exhibitions in the United States teaching new players the game. Paul is very optimistic about McHale’s which is located in Times Square, tourist capital of NYC. Next, we finally were able to welcome Jacques Nieuwlaat, commentator for RTL7 in the Netherlands. He often works with our very own Richard Ashdown, hosting darting events as well as refereeing. We originally met them at the World Cup in Castlebar, Ireland last year and have created a great relationship ever since. This week we have a special treat for all of you. Wayne Mardle joined us on the show following one of his exhibitions with Richard. We are always excited to get this opportunity to speak with a well-known figure in darts. We started by talking about his early experiences in darts as a youth player aspiring to become a professional. He gave us many insights on the differences between youth darts then and now. We then moved on to talk about his eventual start in the BDO as well as his eventual transition over to the PDC. He makes a very good point about what to expect when giving up on your comfortable day job to becoming a professional darts player. Speaking of transitions, as we all know, he made the career change from dart player to dart commentator for Sky Sports. He told us it was an easy switch for him given his dramatic nature on stage. He actually took cues from our very own (local commentator) Jim Nance. He said he was only give two days notice before his first gig and was not told about which matches he would be commentating until he showed up. Since then, he has become a favorable voice from the PDC commentary box and we wish him luck the rest of his career. Episode 74-Two and a Half Men Talking Commentary

This week it was just two and a half of us. No guests. No limits. Given that Richard just finished up with his first gig doing commentary at the England Open this past weekend, we figured it would be the best time to talk about this topic since we have never talked about it before. We were able to reflect on our own experience, John and I, when we did commentary for John Lowe’s first tour stop in Los Angeles. We talked about the roles and responsibilities of commentators at a darting event. We went through what an aspiring commentator would have to do in preparation for an event. When commentating, you are putting yourself out there to be criticized so its not for the average Joe. Oh, and it helps to know your stuff. No one wants to listen to a commentator who doesn’t know how to count. *cough* World Series of Darts *cough*. This was a free flowing show this week so we hope you enjoy. Thanks for listening!

Episode 73-Protege Events “Team Taylor”

Jeff Goode joined us on the show to talk about the new program, Team Taylor by Protege Events. The news of this new program had been floating around Facebook and the Twitter stream for a little while but now was the time to lay it all out on the table. It seems more and more opportunities are popping up for North American players to make it over sees to join the PDC’s Qualifying School for a chance for a Tour Card. This time around, you could qualify to be mentored by Phil Taylor himself prior to Qualifying School. Jeff is heading up the organizing of this program for North America and he brought on Paul LeBlanc to represent Canada. After listening to this episode, you will have a complete understanding of what this program could do for you, the aspiring dart player. Next, as always, we had Little Richard to perform his duties for the Ashdown Lowdown giving us incredible insight into the UK Open. This event has always had a unique way of covering it and if I had to rename it to anything, I would call it “The Festival of Darts.” One massive hall with so many matches to choose from. As a live spectator, there were plenty of opportunities to catch your favorite player not just on stage, but on one of the floor boards as well. Stay tuned and you will hear all about it!

Episode 72-New World Dart Series and More…

To head off this week’s show, Sharon Butler and Anthony Eugenia joined us to finally give the details of the exciting new event, New World Dart Series. This is a high paying, long format event to bring out North America’s best players to Dayton, Ohio. Anthony, of Dart Players New York, was selected to take on the responsibility of Tournament Director. In our opinion, they couldn’t have made a better choice. Look out for this event in October and for God’s sake, go register! Next up, DJ Sayre came back on the show to tell us about his trip to Hong Kong for Dartslive’s The World Stage 3. He had a great experience and was able to talk to Adrian Lewis for a bit as well. If this is all not exciting enough, we had another great announcement from the great Richard Ashdown filling us in that Bobby George and he will be joining us for our second anniversary in Stamford, Connecticut for the USA Dart Classic. There is no way you could pass this up. We are looking forward to having a major show broadcasting from Stamford with a live Ashdown Lowdown on camera! We also talked to Richard about the Semi-Final and Final of the Premier League. We packed so much into this show. We hope you can handle it!

Episode 71-Gordon Dixon and DJ Sayre

Gordon and DJ joined us on the show this week to talk darts. What? Too vague? Alright, to be more specific, they are recognizably two of the best friends that you will find at any tournament. They have been traveling together for quite a while, they live in the same town in Ohio and they happen to be great dart players. We covered a slew of topics with these guys and they seemed to handle everything we threw at them well. They also stayed on to participate in the Ashdown Lowdown with Richard because they are self-proclaimed dart geeks and follow everything gone overseas as well. As a small bonus to our listeners, we added on clips from our after show after the ending music so stick around for that. We won’t be doing that all the time but it is simply just to show you what you are all missing out on during the live show. We want to thank you for listening and we will see you all in two weeks!

Episode 70-Wild Wild West Coast

With a packed show booked for this week, we wasted no time getting to the point with Max Wurzer of Action Dart League and Phil Morehead of Sinister Darts. Their excitement for what is happening on the west coast as well as the whole country is contagious. They have both been working hard to breed interest in the game and it shows in tonight’s interview. We took a quick break to talk to our good friend, Richard Ashdown, to get all up-to-date with what is happening overseas, including the Premier League. We then moved on to Rhen Fuentes who is facilitating the Pacmania III tournament. He was able to give us the full details and we may even have some sort of coverage happening for this event so look out for that. Finally, the producer himself L. David Irete, brought on founders of The House of Darts, Erin Harms and Doug Babbitt. Speaking of excitement, they are bringing a whole new image to the game with their great new idea of developing a venue(bar) which will host Steel-Tip and Soft-Tip darts. They will be encouraging the amateurs as well as the pros to raise the level of their game and to broadcast these events live to the world. Not only that, they are looking to franchise this idea. Look out darts world, the west is back and ready to rock!

Episode 69-Bobby George “Lovely Jubbly”

This week we invited Bobby George on the program and it had to be one of the most wild and crazy shows we have ever produced. Could it have gone any other way? I think not! Bobby has been one of the most standout personalities in darts as well as one of the most controversial figures in the game. At the very beginning he said the game was boring so to change that he would dress up a bit. He became one of the great players of his time and was recognized for that accomplishment by being reunited with 7 of the other biggest names in darts for the betfred.com League of Legends. He is also well known for his outrageous home aptly named George Hall. He built it with his own hands and it consists of 18 bedrooms, a full bar with a dartboard, a snooker table and all the sports memorabilia that any one person would ever need. Not only that, he has three public fishing lakes where he sells tickets for corporate events on the property. Just when you think that is it, Bobby felt it was important to shape his house like a flight. There is all this and much more on this weeks show. In our short format of an hour, we certainly weren’t able to cover such a complex individual such as Bobby George but there are some great insights in this episode. We really look forward to doing part two and hopefully it will be on American soil. *wink wink*

Episode 68-Virginia Is For Darters

The old saying used to be “Virginia Is For Lovers” which i’m sure it is, but now and for a long time it has always been for Darters. Chris and Linda Bender have worked hard to bring the darting community one of the best ADO Sanctioned events you can find. Oh, and did I mention its right on the beach? Yup, this tournament has such a well-rounded appeal for not just dart players, but for their whole family. There are not only events for the traveling player but also they provide youth events all day long. We emailed Chris Bender about setting up at their event only two weeks prior and he immediately said yes. I was astounded by the hospitality at the VBDC and as well as the big welcome from those working at the tournament. One of the biggest highlights besides just being there was their finals board. Each finals event had a crowd of spectators to view the match on the big projection screen so everyone could see. Every tournament should have the same setup so that we can start developing fans of our great sport. So, overall, we had an amazing time and we already have this event on our schedule for next year. YOU SHOULD TOO! A big thank you to Chris and Linda Bender as well as all who worked the control desk and various other areas to make this event possible. We will see you all next year!

[UPDATE] A MESSAGE FROM THE (TOURNAMENT) DIRECTOR

The Good, The Bad &The Ugly at the 26th Virginia Beach Dart Classic

THE GOOD:

This year we made a concerted effort to make the Finals Board more viewable. With the hard work of Archie Bushey and Lou Nelson we believe that this was accomplished. We were able to use a larger score paper and added two (2) cameras to project both the dart board and the score board. The success of this endeavor was easily recognized by observing the swelling crowds watching the Finals matches. We are hoping to expand this effort next year.

Evan Waterman and John Ronnholm, the hosts of “Darts Around the World” were in attendance and did a superb job of reporting on the Virginia Beach Dart Classic. They may live stream the Pro Shoot and Finals board action to all those players and dart fans who are not be able to attend the 27th Virginia Beach Dart Classic.

Another note on the “good side” was that while we eliminated a very profitable event we were able to survive financially. We are also proud to announce that we have entered into a contract with the Wyndham Oceanfront Resort to host the 27th and 28th Virginia Beach Dart Classics. (March 21-14, 2013 and March 27-30, 2014 respectively).

I’d like to thank my staff who once again put on one hell of a tournament. I would be nothing without such a strong team. My sincere appreciation to each of you.

THE BAD & THE UGLY:

The bad news, room prices have increased. This increase is directly attributed to bad behavior and the overindulgence of adult beverages. The increase in room costs will offset the cost of the hotel to bring in more security. Security will be used to prevent tailgating, the sneaking of food and beverages into the dart hall, damage done to the hotel and the clean-up of vomit after overindulgence. Yes, that did happen ! Portable dart boards are now banned from use in the guest rooms due to bad aim and leaving holes in the doors.

This hotel is a NON SMOKING hotel. This smoking policy also included the patio/deck. This information was NOT communicated well and the hotel has apologized for that. I am working to change the no smoking policy on the patio/deck but this will ONLY happen if the smokers are willing to help. You MUST be responsible and clean up after yourselves. No flicking your butts off into the parking garage. Bring an ashtray and dispose of your butts safely and properly. I was also able to save the smokers from having to leave your drinks inside while smoking in the parking garage. Don’t abuse this, it could easily disappear. The hotel will be attempting to incorporate a valet system in 2013 to assist with the parking shortage.

To hold a great tournament you need a great hotel. Please be respectful and responsible. Let’s not ruin our future possibilities.

Player entries overall for the weekend were good. We had a nice increase on the Men’s side which covered the large decrease on the Ladies events. This was a 6-year low for Ladies participation ! Due to the poor turnout on the Ladies events I will be suspending the Top32 payout for the Ladies Singles for the 27th Virginia Beach Dart Classic. If and when the turn out increases for these events I will reinstate this payout.

Also down in numbers this year were the entries for the Pro Cricket Qualifiers. We will attempt this event again in 2013 and hope for the best. Time again for some tweeking on the Pro Cricket event. We will be looking at our seeding method, dress code, scorekeepers, live internet feed, etc. I will post more soon on these changes.

Jocky Wilson passed away March 24th, 2012. The whole darting world came to a halt as the news spread about Jocky’s death and instead of feeling solemn, everyone celebrated his life and career in darts. Article after article was published saying there was no one like Jocky. He was the working class hero that everyone could look up to with his unique approach to the game. His stage presence was second to none as we lived every moment with Jocky good or bad. He was a controversial figure as well as a prolific competitor. We will continue to celebrate his life with every dart we throw never forgetting what Jocky meant to our sport. Feel free to leave your thoughts and memories about Jocky here on this post. Episode 65-Maria Butler On Exhibitions

We had our second Exhibition Week given the great importance of getting the fans and the pros together to build up rapport in the sport. Maria Butler has only just begun to put on exhibitions and, although she finds it insanely difficult to put together, she loves doing it. We put her to task by asking her to walk us through the process of setting up an exhibition from finding the right venue, contacting the players, hiring an MC, convincing people to come and packing up when all is said and done. Sounds like a “one size fits all” plan. Not exactly. Every venue is different, the players are different and how responsive the crowd is always changes. We as Americans are looking at exhibitions as a gateway to new players and fans for darts. What a better way to get people interested than to get the best players showing off the best this game has to offer. The PDC European Championships are being re-run on NBC Universal Sports or the old Versus channel Tuesday March 6th at 1:30AM EST as well as Friday March 9th at 1:00AM EST. The only provider that we know of at this point not showing it is Cablevision. Comcast has it on channel 54. Show your support for darts in the United States by tuning in to watch! If we boost their ratings enough during these time slots, we may see more darts on TV! If you can’t watch at that early hour, then DVR it or have a friend DVR it. Episode 64-Darts In Iceland

Iceland! Yes, we had a dart player from Iceland on the show tonight by the name of Einar Moller. He is from Reykjavik and as described, this is the best place for darts. Adam “Thorn” Smith, before going to the world cup, stopped in Iceland meeting up with Einar and was able to explore the area for dartboards. You can get all the details from his latest Thorn Report. Einar also clarified that there are no such thing as Elves and Hidden People as we wanted to make sure because I believe John Ronnholm has a bit of a phobia. (Rumor) It is not often that we get to hear from a guest in this region so don’t take it for granted! Next, Richard Ashdown helped us out with more Premiere League coverage and predictions as well as results from the Six Nations Cup. In the nature of not spoiling what happened in the Premiere League this week, I will not tell you the results. Enjoy!

Episode 63-Inside Darts Magazine, The Ashdown Lowdown and more!

After skipping a week we returned to the airwaves with a packed show. Our first guest was Chris Haill of the already established Snookered magazine and the soon to be released Inside Darts magazine. He has been noticing a clear growth in the sport of darts and is looking to make this a worldwide magazine published in five different languages. Not only that, it will also be in digital format making it easily accessible to anyone, anywhere. Readers of the digital release will also have access to links for photos and videos as well bringing a more modern approach to the typical magazine. We will be inviting Chris back upon the launch of this new magazine to show our support all of his hard work. Next up it was time for us to introduce a new segment called Ashdown’s Lowdown where Richard Ashdown will give us full coverage of the events overseas with the PDC and BDO. We are very proud to welcome Richard to the DATW family and we are looking forward working with him more. To conclude this week’s show I talked about my recent trip to California for vacation/Dartslive USA’s first ever event. Also, John Ronnholm was able to attend the first stop on the DPNY tour while I was away so more on that as well. This is a big show and no one should miss it. Thanks for all of your support!

Episode 62-Gary Mawson and Darin Young after World Cup/Bob Sinnaeve and the NAPDA

We had the pleasure this week to have Gary and Darin join us to talk about their appearance in the World Cup immediately following the event. Given the unique format of the World Cup, it was a blast watching Gary and Darin play doubles together on a stage with players that aren’t quite as familiar this style of darts. As each one of them would smile after one of them struggled or hit the big out, they were having fun up there. They didn’t exactly get the greatest reception from the German crowd (minus the one guy yelling USA at the most awkward times), they never seemed to be phased. On top of that, Gary was able to knock off Phil Taylor. Unfortunately, after a few chances to knock off England, they finally sealed the deal and sent the USA home packing. A lot of great insight into the world of the PDC from these guys. Bob Sinnaeve was also able to join us to give us all the info on the newly returned NAPDA. They are looking to develop a new ranking system for North America over 2 years based on earnings of the players. Tune in to this show to get most of what you need to know about this organization. Episode 61-Darts Entertainment With Colin Cosell

A question I posed to a darts group on facebook the same day as our live show propelled a whole new topic on our show this week. We wanted to know what everyone thought about what could be added to a dart event to create entertainment value to bring in fans to the sport. 101 comments later, we still weren’t entirely sure but it was a start! At the head of the show, we were able to welcome a new friend of ours to the Darts Around The World team by the name of Colin Cosell. He works on MSG Varsity if you are all familiar and recently started a new project called the Social News Media Network. Watch the video below this post to watch his latest episode. He will be incorporating this same idea into our show and make it all about darts. This is very exciting and we hope that this will add more “entertainment value” to our very much “free” weekly show. Then we moved on to the comments that were shared in the facebook group. There were many great ideas given by many of the members and there are some we hope to use over the course of this next year. Episode 60-PDC North American Pro Tour-Round Table

Jeff Smith returns this week from the PDC’s Qualifying School to talk about winning his first ever tour card. He described his experience as a confident one while he shot some of the best darts of his life. He looks forward to spending some time overseas and seeing what sponsorship can do for him to get him to travel more often. Congratulations Jeff! Immediately following the interview we turned to our panel of guests including Jay Tomlinson of Bullseye News Magazine, Steve Panuncialman of Dart Talk, Anthony Eugenia of Dart Players New York, Brian Jackson of Major League Darts and Chris Helms who recently became the next ADO President. With a fully diverse panel we set out to dissect the newly organized PDC North American Pro Tour. Thanks to Jay, we got a very detail explanation of how it is going to work. We got a sense that all on the panel were excited to see what this new tour will bring to North America. Even better yet, organizations like Major League Darts and Dart Players New York will be able to contribute to these tournaments by sending top players to participate in these events. Oh, and don’t forget, all who are participating in these events need not worry about being disqualified for the WDF World Cup! Episode 59-”Little” Richard Ashdown’s Lakeside Coverage

There may have been no round table in sight this week but Richard Ashdown could cover every seat at the table. Previously, during our world cup coverage, we got to know Richard a little bit but due to the bandwidth issues in Castlebar, Ireland, it was tough to make out half of what was being said. Have no fear, he’s back! And may I say, he sounds great. Looks like he has done this sort of thing before. He tells us his great story involving Bobby George and the start of his career. He gave us so many great insights into the behind the scenes of major televised tournaments. From there, we talked about the two or three controversial events that took place up on the Lakeside stage. Two breeze issues in both semi-final matches of both World Championships, go figure! Given that this may have been the most in depth coverage we have ever had on the show, we will most certainly be having Richard back in the future. We also added a small question and answer segment after the end of the music so stay tuned!

Jeff Smith and Gary Mawson came on the show Wednesday night to talk about their upcoming trip to the PDC’s Q-School. This is an opportunity for players not yet playing on the tour to obtain their very own tour card. The object? Win as many legs as you can and make it to the top 16. Easy? Not a chance! With players showing up from the BDO (Dave Chisnall won a tour card through Q-School), the field is guaranteed to be a major challenge. Jeff and Gary did not show a hint of worry as we chatted them up on the show. We also talked to Gary about his upcoming trip to play in the PDC’s World Cup of Darts with Darren Young representing the United States. This tournament has been one of my favorites since I last saw it with its interesting format and team play. As soon as Jeff returns from Q-School, we expect him back on the show regardless of the news on January 25th live at 9pm EST on Darts Underground to give us a little insight into his experience. I’d also like to announce our next round table episode on January 18th where we will be talking about this sudden appearance of a PDC Pro Tour in the US. Soft-tip World Champion, Paul Lim, joins us from the road this week. We wanted to catch him as soon as possible to talk to him about winning The World Grand Final in Hong Kong. As Dartslive grows, so will these major events or “stages.” Paul was so happy to be the first soft tip world champion as I would think everyone would like to be known as the first in the history books. We also talk about the new opportunities coming for North American dart players as these high-paying tournaments begin to pop up. It has been said that 2012 has a bright future. Besides talking about the growth of darts, we got into the conversations of health and fitness. As Paul would tell you, as you get older its not as easy to keep up your endurance during all day darts matches. More and more these days it is becoming more important to take care of your health if you want to last in this game. Put down the beer glass and pick up a protein shake! Ha I kid of course. Just spike the protein shake! Anyway, with the start of this new year, make it a goal to take better care of yourself. Episode 56-Exhibition Round Table

After a week of exhibitions with John Lowe from west coast to east coast, we gathered the organizers from each location to have a round table discussion about their experience. Each stop seemed to have its own unique story and all were extremely positive. Naturally, we talked about our experience in Los angeles last episode so we moved on to Nashville, TN where Chuck Pankow was hard at work. Next, we headed northeast up to Boston where Adam Sherlock summoned the Minuteman Dart League. Lastly, we traveled 5 and half hours south to John Lowe’s final destination, NYC. Anthony Eugenia and Larry Watson were able to put on a show for John with the finals of the DPNY Tour. Plus, every stop was filmed one way or another. That is one of the most important parts. Each organizer made it immediately available worldwide. With the participation of dart players everywhere and always evolving technology, we now have the unique ability to grow the game. After a 3 week hiatus, we are back! We had been planning for and executing John Lowe’s LA Exhibition with a full video broadcast from the Borderline Bar and Grill. To start off, we invited Alan Keoghan from Ireland on the show to talk about his profession as a Professional Darts Agent. With his high energy persona and a little spirits on our end, we talked about the most relevant topic we could think of, darts exhibitions. He has managed to make many great connections with venues all over ireland to host many of the greatest dart players in the world including John Lowe. We now know who we will be contacting if we take our production to Ireland. It seems the sky is the limit for Alan and we hope to make that dream a reality. To finish off the show, we talked about our whole experience out in California with John Lowe. Old Stoneface seems to only be a stage name because off the stage he was a complete gentleman and frankly, he was able to put up with our antics all weekend! If you have ever spent time with Bones and I you know exactly what i’m talking about. So what is next on our agenda? Well, 2012 is looking to be another jam-packed year for broadcasting and after what we were able to pull off in La, it will only get more amazing! We will now work on editing the three hour program we filmed in LA and will update everyone as soon as it is made available. Episode 45-Larry Butler, Jim Widmayer and…Pat Sajak

Hurricane Irene took over the Darts Around The World Headquarters last week and delayed the show. Thankfully we were able to avoid skipping two weeks and return to our routine. Larry Butler and Jim Widmayer went overseas to play in the Winmau World Masters and were able to tell us all about their experience. Jim even made it on tv to represent the US. Tune it at the end of the episode to hear his thoughts on that. David Irete is down in the bahamas at Sandals and he very generously donated a dartboard to keep darts alive there. What we didn’t know was that Pat Sajak of Wheel of Fortune was going to crash our show. Our focus since the beginning has always been to focus on darts as an international sport and we were able to continue that idea with two great interviews. The following weekend I was able to find my way out to Queens, NY to meet Denis Ovens during a chance exhibition he did at the Irish Rover. He was a class act and truly an inspiration to all the NYC dart players that participated. We were able to celebrate our one year anniversary for Darts Around The World in style with an interview with the one and the only, John Lowe. Being someone that has never met this legend of the game, I felt inspired after this interview giving me more motivation to carry on for another year. He talked about his book, The Art of Darts, which gives new and current players a whole new look at the mental game. John Lowe is a generational player with so much experience including being the first man to throw a televised 9-dart game. (He was able to recite the exact date and time when he achieved this by the way so the man is still sharp) He takes this experience and passes it on to be used to make your game better. We also talked with him about his upcoming tour starting in LA and ending in NYC. As you know or may not know, this sport in the US is getting more and more exciting everyday and what a great way to introduce new people to the sport by bringing them to an exhibition with John Lowe. We hope once his official tour dates are announced that all of you can come out and support him. He loves the United States and wishes this sport would grow to the level he knows it can. Its now up to us to make it happen. Stamford was a huge weekend for us and we met so many great people to celebrate this anniversary with. We are looking forward to the new year to come. Episode 35-Dart Cruise Wrap-Up

There were darts on land, darts at sea and everything in between. Our first ever dart cruise was a huge success! In this episode we give a thorough wrap up of our trip to Bermuda. We had moped incidents, darts with cruise staff as well as an amazing event with the Bermuda Darts Association. We want to thank all who joined us on this trip and the great people of Bermuda for taking some of their weeknight to play darts with a bunch of yanks. For those of you who didn’t join us on this trip, we have great news. We are doing it again next year! Not only are we going to Bermuda, but we are also planning to head to Alaska in 2013. Please contact us if you would like to know how to get involved or if you would like to run a trip of your own and go for free! We plan to create many new dart cruises all around the world to give all of our listeners the opportunity to experience what we were able to experience this past week. Episode 32-Youth Darts With Matt Sagen

For the first time on this show we devoted a whole show just to Youth Darts. We invited on 19 year old Matt Sagen to talk about his goals as a youth player in the United States. He picked up his first set of (soft tip) darts when he was six years old and his father was happy to teach him the game. He is currently living in Yakima, WA and his dream is to one day play for the PDC overseas and hopefully hear in the US. (knock on wood) Brian Jackson at www.mlddarts.com is currently raising money for Matt to travel and get some exposure as a youth player while hopefully jumpstarting the youth players in this country to follow his lead. We welcomed the ambassador for the United States, at least for darts anyway, on the show this week. Its not everyday that you get to really hear from the nation’s best athletes on such a personal level. I feel we really accomplished that and more. We began with how he was introduced to darts which lead us into a segment about American Darts or “Widdy Darts.” This is primarily a game focused in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. He talked about how he transitioned into english darts and surprisingly revealed that he has never to this day been apart of a league. He announces his new signing with L-Style, a company which i’m sure you are all familiar with at this point. Even John Lowe himself called in a question for Darin. We talked not only about the dart scene, but the local food and drink, Mardi Gras as well as hotspots that only a local could recommend. Within one of the most vibrant cultures in the United States, the dart scene is alive and well though I wouldn’t recommend looking for darts during Mardi Gras. Just secure some beads, a drink and be prepared to party. If Bourbon Street isn’t an interest of yours, Scott could show you down the riverfront where you could gamble, wrestle alligators(not recommended by Scott) and fish for your own dinner. Originally from New Zealand, Australia and England, Nathan takes the world to Brazil for some frighteningly big arachnids, delicious beer and rope dartboards. He currently resides in Tatui, Brazil which is about 50 to 60 miles inland from Sao Paulo. Despite it costing them an average of $260 to import just one board, they manage to meet once a month to keep their passion alive. Their league consists of a judge, a lawyer, a teacher and a criminal. Its always good to know they got all phases covered to keep each other busy. On top of that, Nathan is also known as “Hugo Chavez.” If this quick little description doesn’t make you yearn to learn about darts in Brazil, then you just don’t love darts! This had to have been one of my person favorite shows we have done since the very beginning. We invited Robert Heckman and Richard Espinoza on the show to report to the darting community about their trip to Taiwan for the Asia Bullshooter. We had such a blast talking to them about the hospitality they received while they were there as well as some of the great work they did in raising money for those affected by the Tsunami in Japan. Whether they planned for it or not, this trip proved to be much more important than they could have ever imagined. From poisonous blowfish to scantily clad photographs, we covered it all and we thank them for taking the time to bring their entertaining stories to the show. For the end of the show, we brought on Tsuyoshi Yamasaki to help Bones wrap up the Virginia Beach tournament for us. We also had a call-in from Sharon Butler from the Desperate Dart Wives show to give us an overview of how the tournament went as well as all the donations they received for the IDART foundation. Episode 26- The Philadelphia Special

The weekend of March 11th, John and I were invited out to Philly to meet with many players in the local dart scene. Ted Northrop was able to set us up at Squire McGuire’s Pub to interview some key people to give an inside look into their culture. In addition to all this, we thought it would be fun to do some of our own exploring. With Gloria Gutierrez joining us, we hit the town. We started at the Reading Terminal Market which is stock full of great vendors covering all sorts of cuisine. Among all the stops in the Market, we tried a few selections at Wan’s Seafood as well as Nani’s Kitchen which is a mix of Pakistani and Indian cuisine. With our stomachs full, we headed down market street to the historical section in town featuring Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. After sneaking onto the set of National Treasure where Nicholas Cage finds the valuable glasses to crack the code, we decided it was time to destroy any remaining appetite we had and visit the Mudder Museum. Now I’ll have to warn you, this is not for the faint at heart. Death, dismemberment, disease, disfigured bodies and oh so much more is what you will find at this wicked but highly informative attraction. So, after all of the interviews and all of the traveling around, we have to say, we had a blast! Episode 25- No Baloney Maloney/Bermuda Darts

What an exciting show we had this wednesday evening. First we brought on Kathy Maloney from Gulfport, Fl to talk about her reunion/charity tournament coming up in April where she hopes to bring back the players that toured the circuit with her in the 80s. Better yet, she is doing an auction where you can purchase a player to be your partner during the tournament. For instance, you could open up your wallet and place your bid for John Lowe. Thats right, the first person to throw a 9-darter on television. The procedes will go to the “Friends of Strays” organization in hopes to support them in getting a new floor to house all the animals they provide for. A really great cause and a really great event. Next, we welcomed Elizabeth Hickmott who is the “Fixtures Secretary” for the Bermuda Darts Association. What an amazing conversation we had with her about her beloved island of Bermuda. Not only did we get an overview of the dart scene there as well as places to visit, we will be given a grand welcoming as we arrive fresh off the boat for our Dart Cruise out of NYC. If you were uncertain about going, you won’t be after listening to her enthusiasm about the event we will be having. Two nights ago we decided to walk aimlessly down the strip and we met a gentleman who is originally from the United States but went to live in Sao Paulo, Brazil. We talked a little bit about how their dart league is structured, what the competition is like as well as some interesting travel information. I know I have said it before but we are back again. We have been dealing with some issues regarding sound and if you are at all familiar with what we do, you know that we can’t do anything without it. BUT, I will stop making excuses and get on with the show. In this episode Bones and I do a narrative with audio clips from a video conversation we had in the MacArthur Suite in Long Island at the New York/New Jersey Open. The video is compliments of David Irete. Thats right, we got the opportunity to meet him for the first time. We all had a blast at this tournament and wanted to share our experiences with you the listener. Also, vegas is less than a week away! HAPPY NEW YEAR! WE ARE BACK ALIVE AND WELL!! Thats right. Even afterthe storm of the century here on the east coast we have returned to give you an amazing conversation we had with Brian Jackson, the founder of the Major League Dart Tour. We tried to get the most out of our time talking with him. From handball in prison to darts on a grand scale here in the United States. Believe me, it really happened. Brian has proved to be the right man for the job when it comes to the growth of this new revitalization of darts with longer formats, live feeds as well as the attraction of new sponsors. Its all in there and ready to be brought to prime time. So, it is up to all of you to make this a reality. This is certainly not a one man show. Episode 17- Merry Christmas!

From everyone here at Darts Around the World, we would like to wish you a very merry Christmas! We had two guests join us for this special episode. First, a dart blogger from New Jersey who, before Christmas, does a dart gift review. We went over how he got the idea to do these reviews and also talked about some of his findings. From an elephant throwing darts to a dog bowl that says “I suck at darts,” we were impressed at the amazing amount of gifts that are out there on the web. We then moved on to our friend Rags from MyDartShirts.com and he shared his story of how he became a graphic artist. There are so many different ways that we can promote the sport of darts through graphic design and he proved to be a great outlet. Episode 16- Queen Mary Classic and El Presidente

In this episode, we step aboard the Queen Mary Hotel, hail to chief Buddy Bartoletta of the ADO and scrounge up any other interesting things going on in the world of darts. Straight from her dart shop in California, Jan Turner gave us a run-through of the Queen Mary Classic IX. We explored some of the benefits of traveling to this tournament including the city of Long Beach, a cruise to Catalina Island and ghost encounters. Thats right. With all of its rich history, the Queen Mary not only plays host to the living, but you may also find the remnants of, oh I don’t know, Captain George Gibbons, who was one of the many Captains over the years. So, given that this plays right into our overly dramatic obsession about Ghost Hunters, we had an awesome time talking about the Queen Mary. We then moved on to el presidente himself, Buddy Bartoletta. The ADO has decided to take over the Las Vegas Open. This move by the ADO has caught the attention of many and we looked to find out why the ADO is now running their very first tournament. Now, let’s head overseas and talk about the Ladbrokes.com World Championship. This event will be giving you updates through a mobile application, bringing you a 3D darts experience for the semi-finals and the finals and being host to the greatest darts players on the planet! Episode 15- Dart Talker Speaks!

Yes I know, there are many of you who are avid readers of Dart Talker’s Blog but now there is a voice to the words. We spent some time talking about how he went from a dart player to a dart promoter. We really wanted to find out the root of all his hard work and passion for the sport of darts. He has quite a few ideas of how the United States could draw more people to the sport of darts as well as travel. So, speaking of travel, we talked about the Queen Mary Classic IX in Long Beach, CA. This is the infamous Queen Mary that took its maiden voyage back in 1936. Now it is currently dry docked and transformed into a stationary hotel. This whole idea for a tournament has inspired us to reach out to the organizers and bring them on the show to go further into detail and to help us organize a group to travel to their tournament. To end the show, we talked about the USADarts.com Open as well as the recent World Cup of Darts. In this episode we bring you an overview of our weekend at the Long Island Fall Classic. There was a surprising doubles match(which remains under investigation), a funny but true letter from Alaska and an update on Johnny K’s “Toys For Tots.” We had a listener call in asking us about the Major League Darts Tour. Then, we moved on to the new PDC World Championship Darts video game. Yah I know, I can’t believe it either. Also, now there is a way for the blind or visually impaired to play the game of darts and that would be the Audio Dart Master. With every strike of the board with a soft tip dart, it will say exactly what your shot was. Check out the links below for more info. We had a couple really exciting announcements and they had to do with the Las Vegas Open in January 2011 as well as the USADarts.com Open. Lastly, what we are seriously floored about is our dart cruise. Its getting closer and closer so now is the time to sign up and cruise to Bermuda with the Hosts of Darts Around The World. We are back! We missed a week but we certainly gave you two weeks worth of content in this episode. David Hascup finally decided to join us. Remember that guy? Yah, the ADO Communications Director and the guy we’ve been anxiously waiting to hear from about his trip to England. Well, he came on and gave us a full report. Robert Heckman, a.k.a The Dragon, came on the show to talk about Cosmo Darts as well as his experience traveling all over the world playing darts. He fit in so well with the Darts Around The World crew that we are planning on having him back soon for part two. Thorn also came on to give us an update on his trip to the Southern Caribbean. He was able to meet some great people in St. Thomas, he met with Michael Heal of the Barbados Darts Festival and he also managed to start communications with Princess Cruise Line to set up boards on all of their ships. Talk about an exciting update. We had a blast doing the show this week and if you listen closely, you will be able to tell why. Episode 12- The Shannon Cup

Phew! It may have been long, but it was certainly jammed packed with great content! We first talked about a way for YOU to become an Audio Journalist right here on Darts Around The World. There are over 50 million iPhones with a very important app called Voice Memo which allows you record audio and send it via SMS or email. So, you can now interview your favorite dart player or record a finals match and send it right from the tournament! How cool is that? We will then create a page for our “Journalism Street Team.” Next, we gave the long-awaited update for The Thorn Report and let me tell you, its a big one! John Ronnholm and I also spent our Saturday in Hoboken, NJ at the Shannon Bar for the Shannon Cup. We had an awesome experience there and want to thank everyone involved for such a great job. David Irete, The Darts Promoter, came on our show to make a very important announcement that we are all very excited about and Warren Ackery also came on to talk about a very serious story of how he became a dart player and some of the struggles he faced and overcame to keep his passion alive. Episode 11- Happy Halloween!

We recorded episode 11 on Sunday, October 31st, during the Winmau World Masters Semi-finals. Between the possible onslaught of trick-or-treaters, we managed to give a thorough summary of the events over in England. We would like to say congratulations to Martin Adams on his hat trick victory in the World Masters. It appears Stuart Kellet will be a tough future competitor despite his lack of experience on stage. He is certainly someone to look out for. We also talk a little travel news and asked the question, “what should be done about airline policies regarding obese passengers?” Considering we are promoting travel, I figured it would be an important subject to bring up. Some of us have been there when flying on a plane and you are stuck in the seat next to someone who is taking up a third of your own seat and you remain in constant contact with that person for the duration of the flight. Now don’t get me wrong, we didn’t take this as an opportunity to take an insensitive approach to the subject but to give useful opinions. Episode 10- Tenthiversary

Happy Tenthiversary Everybody! We made it to ten episodes all in one piece. In this episode we talk about the 2nd edition to the Thorn Report. We also talk about where our travel correspondent, Adam Smith, is for the next two weeks. Considering this was the same night we were about to head to the Eastern State Penitentiary, it was quite obvious we were all fired up. Yet again, a host on this show decided to attempt the Backwards Double Bullseye unsuccessfully. Bones seems to be surpassing the “Adrian Lewis” of NJ aka David Hascup and showing him victory can certainly be short-lived. I also introduced my very own travel news segment which to me seemed to be related to Dave’s trip to England. Watch out for the next Samual Jackson movie titled, “Crocodiles On A Plane.” So, as you can tell, we had a lot of fun with this weeks episode and I hope you all do as well. Episode 9- Johnny K’s Toys for Tots

In this episode we talked to one of the top dart shooters in the country, Johnny K. Not only did we discuss his achievements and goals for the future, we talked about how we all can help him raise money for the Toys for Tots organization. His love of the game and his generosity have played an important role for the kids of Pennsylvania. The holidays are approaching fast and for all of you who have kids, just imagine what it would be like for your child to wake up Christmas morning without any toys and the knowing that someone cares for them. I don’t know about you, but that is certainly enough for me to give 10 dollars for such an important cause. So, thank you Johnny for all that you are doing! Episode 8- I Don’t Know. Oh, and the World Grand Prix

In this episode, we give you quite a few updates about our site and some future interviews that we are very excited about. We featured a new page idea called “No Guts, No Glory” where we are requesting that anyone and everyone send in pictures of themselves with some of the most bizarre foods they have ever eaten including intestines and a pigs ass. Yup, I just said that. We also announce that we will be heading to the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA on October 23rd to walk through their famous haunted house. I know what your thinking, where’s the darts? Well, we managed to make it to some dart news including the mighty Grand Prix. We were very excited to talk about this major event considering it was double in, double out. That certainly was not the only thing that caught our interest. Just as Adrian Lewis blew the end of a nine dart game, Phil Taylor took the wind out of his sails by taking out a 170. Ouch! But, that did not sink the ship. Adrian Lewis took the victory in the final leg of the match and sent his protege straight to bed. So that about took care of this weeks episode. Episode 7- The Thorn Report

We spoke with a rather jovial travel blogger this week who happens to have a talent for locating dart boards in rare places such as Lake Titicaca, located between Bolivia and Peru. He explains the meaning of 4 for 1 beer sales at the foot of Machu Picchu as well as one of his favorite finds, an open-air bar on the beaches of Antigua. We also explored the meaning and value of creating relationships in the dart world which might as well be apart of our mission statement here at Darts Around The World. We have all seen how the sport of darts can bring such a wide range of people together especially from the four corners of the earth. Given the fact that the sport still remains insignificant in the world of sports, we need to do all that we can. So, we plan to take the first of many steps to grow our community by featuring Adam Smith’s, “The Thorn Report,” here on our website. We chose to step into the world of American Darts which is an entirely different game than the English darts that we all know so well. We go over board specifications, game rules, the American Baseball Darts Association and the Nationals in Pennsylvania. Speaking of Pennsylvania, we decided it to be proper to speak a bit about Philadelphia(or so we thought). Armed with a list of places to mention, we found ourselves spiraling into mayhem entering places we never thought possible. Our very own John Ronnholm also featured his drawings that he often makes while we are on the air. Lastly, we had two special announcements at the front of the show. Oh yes we certainly did! In this episode, we are challenged by a listener to either find or create a list of strange tournament ideas and boy did we get creative. Between an underwater resort in dubai and a treetop hotel, we baffled our own minds. Our imagination caught fire and we never looked back.

Episode 4- Barbados Darts Festival

In this episode we speak with someone who has put together one of the finest dart events in one of the most beautiful places on earth and that man’s name is Michael Heal. He expresses his excitement for the country of Barbados as well as all of the people involved in this festival. He shares detailed itinerary information, excursions, format for the events and some of the history of the festival. Best of all, Wayne Mardle has come back for another year to be the host for 2010. Being that this takes place November 1-11, it gives you the opportunity to escape the cooling temperatures of North America and the UK. The opportunities to experience many different cultures all while playing the sport of darts appears to be one of its greatest draws. Michael talks to us about his mission to bring on more players from North America and presents his new 7 day program where you will still be able to play in all of the events. In this episode we talk about the ups and more ups about the ship we are traveling on to Bermuda. In our first episode we explored the island of Bermuda and what is in store for our dart cruise. Not only does he provide information on their upcoming tournament but he delivers comical insights into the world of San Francisco. From “the bushman to the fortune cookie,” he offers up plenty for those who are hungry for travel. As the hosts of the show, we found ourselves in tears laughing in what could be known as the jester’s court. Don’t be afraid to spend a couple extra days after this years San Francisco Open because Mr. Bouvier will show you the town! So thank you john for not only entertaining our listeners but the hosts of the show as well and just because you love this quote so much, I will not let you down. In this first part of episode 2 we sit down with Phil Fried who is a man not only known for his bag ‘o’hats, but for his true passion for darts. We take time to explore his beginnings as an amateur dart player all the way up to his first tournament win. Not only does he impress us with the places he has traveled for such a lesser known sport but he expresses his appreciation towards a fallen mentor. This is an in depth look at what it is to travel to places not often explored by local dart players. If you have a love for the game, then this will be a great listen.
