It’s looking like the Texas Hill Country will have a good crop of wildflowers this spring. The early news is that the fall rain has germinated the bluebonnets, and because of the drought, they have been able to spread where other vegetation hasn’t fared as well. Make your reservations now - best viewing is generally the first few weeks of April. It ‘s not too early to start planning your Spring Getaway!

Wings Over the Hills Nature Festival takes place here at Lady Bird Johnson Park on April 29-May 1. Come enjoy the educational and entertainment activities focusing on the unique wildlife features of the Texas Hill Country. Sponsored by the Fredericsburg Rotary Clubs and the Friends of the Fredericksburg Nature Center, this celebration of natural flight should make for a great weekend. Fredericksburg Food and Wine Fest

This is probably my favorite festival. One day, October 23rd from 12-7 PM. Many Texas wineries represented. The weather is great, and the music is a combination of Hill Country, a little folk, and old rock and roll. Texas food purveyors set out tastes of their products and everyone has a great time! New wineries keep cropping up all the time, so come taste what Fredericksburg has to offer. Have yourself a big breakfast, and then head over to Marketplatz for the afternoon!

Fredericksburg Trade Days

On the third weekend of every month (that’s this weekend!) Fredericksburg has Trade Days. Over 300 vendors – in 6 barns and over several acres – sell antiques, shabby chic items, clothing, jewelry, collectibles and more. Located just six miles east of Fredericksburg and right across from Wildseed Farms, here’s a place to explore what the Texas Hill Country has to offer. Grab a beer and stroll the grounds. You never know what you’ll find.

LBJ’s retreat from Washington, is now open to the public with many rooms restored to their original condition and more rooms to open in the future. The Jet Star aircraft that LBJ used before and during his presidency has just been returned to the ranch as a permanent display. Don’t miss the great changes at this Texas Hill Country treasure! Visit Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm while there and see how self sufficient they were, and are, as volunteers carry out the day to day activities of a turn-of- the-century Texas-German family farm.

Wildseed Farms in the Texas Hill Country

Wildseed Farms is located just seven miles east of Fredericksburg, and is open seven days a week for your perusal. Visit the center in spring when the largest growers of wildflowers have their fields in bloom, then spend time in the Market Center browsing, and of course you can pick up some wildflower seeds. There are walking trails and a butterfly exhibit, as well as an outstanding nursery. All our overnight guests end up spending a couple of hours there – it is a diverse and entertaining experience!

in our downtown square. What a great reason to visit the Texas Hill Country on a weekday this summer! Smaller crowds and uncrowded restaurants make weekdays an ideal time to visit.
