I sent my first tweet back in February of 2007. I have written many blog posts about Twitter over the years, some good, some not so good, but overall I still love our little blue feathered friend.

It seems like just the other day when I was celebrating my 8,000th tweet. Today, I am approaching 60,000. Time sure flies!

10,000 Followers and 1 Delicious Stroopwafel

I am creeping up to my 10,000th follower, which is a Twitter milestone in my humble opinion. I have never paid any dodgy services or done questionable things to gain new followers. I have always just been myself, sharing tips and silly things that have hopefully kept you amused and informed.

My pals at Twitter H.Q. have a snack they swear by, Stroopwafel. They want to send my 10,000th follower a delicious Stroopwafel, seriously. As I write this post, I have 9,981 followers. If you aren‘t already following me, please take a second to do so now.

It was in February last year when I launched my consulting business, Delaney Digital Marketing Consulting. My business is going well, and I have incredible clients who I am lucky to be working with. A few people have asked for more details on the services I provide, so I created www.davedelaney.me to help inform them. 2012 was spent meeting new people and getting reacquainted with old friends in Nashville and beyond. I plan to do my best to stay connected with as many of you as possible this year. I have been so inspired by the concept of networking that I created the New Networking blog. Check it out if you haven’t had a chance yet. It is filled with tips, interviews and stories about the importance of professional networking and social media. I am blogging there more frequently than I am here these days.

I have started the year by using Chris Guillebeau’s Annual Review method, and I highly recommend you give it a try too. It is paramount to have your goals in check, so take a little time to do so now if you haven’t yet.

Let’s be sure to keep connected this year. I am working on some big projects I am excited to tell you about soon. I will also be in Austin for SXSW Interactive. Are you going to be there? If so, I would love to try to meet up for a meal, coffee or cocktail. Let me know!

I keep asking my 6 and 7 year old to stop growing, but they won’t listen. They are both incredibly cute kids who still love climbing up into my lap for a cuddle or possibly to attack me.

My parents split up at an early age, and my Dad traveled quite a bit. Now that I am a father, I am obsessed with spending time with my kids as a result. I try to arrange a day a month to spend time one on one with each of my children. When this does occur, we do things like go and make ceramics, watch a movie in the theater, or play putt putt. Sadly, the monthly days seldom occur monthly. They are often more like quarterly.

In my mind, I want our dates to be big memorable events that my kids will never forget. When really it’s about the little things. It’s about spending ten minutes. Ten minutes is a lifetime to a 6 or 7 year old.

Please bring peanut butter, canned meat, canned fruit, rice, mac and cheese and cereal. Dented and expired cans can’t be accepted. Please avoid glass containers too.

In 2011, Nashcocktail raised 163 lbs of food, and Geek Breakfast brought in 87 lbs. Who will raise the most amount of food this year?

Over the weekend I had to visit a local Oreck store to pick up some bags for my vacuum. The friendly store clerk didn’t bother to look up the SKU number, which I supplied her with. I even asked if she was sure they were correct, she assured me they were. They weren’t.

The store is a ways from my house, so I was frustrated with the wasted time. And so I turned to Twitter.

Dear EVERY RETAILER, If you don’t know the answer don’t guess. Find out or tell your customer you don’t know. I’m talking to YOU @oreck :(

Smart companies on social know that it is always best to take the conversation offline to email, which is what she did.

We exchanged emails and to save me returning to the store to exchange the bags, they are shipping me complimentary new ones today.

This is a great case study of customer service on Twitter. Kudos to Oreck for knocking this out of the park and making me a happy customer once again.

For my friends who are regular readers, I guess I need to explain this crazy video. A few months ago, I was contacted about appearing in a web ad for Bounce. I was excited at the opportunity to get paid to be in front of the camera again. Yes, I use to act.

Improv Comedy

Many moons ago, I dreamt of becoming an actor. I was in a number of student films. I starred in a music video, and then I decided to take acting more seriously.

I studied improv comedy at Second City in Toronto. I went on to form a troupe and perform weekly for over a year at a club in Galway, Ireland. I took some acting lessons, and I did some extra work in a few television shows and movies.

When the opportunity came up for a few bloggers to appear in a web series for Bounce, I decided to take them up on their offer. Who doesn’t love fresh smelling laundry after all? Little did I know where the video would end up, on the front page of Huffington Post!

It’s funny where life takes you. I was literally just chatting with Chris Brogan about improv on his new podcast, The Human Business Way.

So how was my acting?

Not all of my photographs are of Nashville, but many of them are. The feedback I have received has been surprising, people seem to love my shots of Music City.

I was inspired to create a physical book of some of my favorite photos of Nashville, which I just received. The book quality is great, my family and friends love it. So I thought I would make My Nashville available to you for purchase too.
