A gunman has killed 33 people including himself, at the Virginia Tech university, near Washington, in the worst campus shooting in US history.

There were two incidents two hours apart, at a student dorm where two were killed, and at an engineering building where 30 and the gunman died.

Officers said they were working to link the attacks and had not yet identified the gunman. Fifteen people were hurt.

Hi everyone, did you know I have been able to call friends since january, calling to their phones with my skype phone?

Until now I have only called four people like that (Eliana, Amie, Stacy, and Jacqueline). The phone wasn't loud enough with Stacy so we had to give up a couple of months ago.

But Stacy and I tried skype last night (calling computer to computer) and it was perfect, both loud enough and clear. (-: We talked for around 7 hours. (-: We had tried msn chat just before (it was my first time) but I was sure it wouldn't work, because my headset microphone has never seemed to work. But actually she could hear me, so the microphone did work. But I couldn't hear her because it was distorted and slow like a machine. The problem is the quality is not as good with msn voice chat. But we have skype now so it is perfect.

Then thinking msn wouldn't work for me, I was telling Sandra about it today. And guess what!!! (-: We tried msn voice chat, and it works. It was a bit echo-ey and it wasn't quite as good quality as skype, but we heard eachother for the first time, and I was really happy. All my international friends have beautiful voices. (-: She doesn't have skype yet.

I had told Gissell about it yesterday too. But she is too embarrassed to have voice chat in an internet cafe. (I think would be too) but maybe she can use it with Sandra at her house sometimes (-:

So now I would really like to be able to hear the voices of the friends who i care about very much. Especially those who know they are close in my heart (-: So whether it is skype, msn, or calling to a phone, contact me and we will hear our voices together for the first time xxx, and (I hope) often (-:

Dear Dani, I want you to know that talking to you made me feel a lot better, I feel relieved of my problems. (-: I realised the bad year I told you about was almost a year ago. I had been living as if those things were yesterday, ever since. But now it is 2006 and a new year. Jacqueline started things new for me again, and ended the bad year at last. I had forgotten to wake up to that until now. I realise that actually, nothing directly bad has happened to me this year, and apart from a lack of purpose, it is a good one. Some friendships came closer, one special one I thought had been lost, came back recently, and seems like it is going to last. Jess and Sandra, I still feel the same even though we couldn't talk (-: Jacqueline stayed in touch (-: and I made some new friends, one from a very different culture who I like a lot. Failed relationships are out of my hands, so no point feeling bad anymore. And I have the job, at least for now (-: so I guess I have no worries except time, the years passing by. I want to keep going forward though, I don't ever want to be satisfied and to stop trying.

It means building international networks, and making better use of "soft power" like: diplomacy, finance, trade and technology.

Changing their conventional military presence in other countries, will help to win hearts and minds. The new preference will be for smaller specially-trained teams, able to speak local languages - including Arabic - and to deploy rapidly and work with the armies of other nations.

Auntie Ruby

You probably recognise my Auntie Ruby (she was actually my grandmother's sister). She died today aged 90. It is a good age to reach. (-:

This is her five generations photo, from her 90th birthday (Aug. 30, 2005) last year. The men either side of her are her sons, the lady on the right is her grand daughter, the left is her great grand daughter, and the children are her great great grand children. That is the five generations.

It seems like she had been in hospital for two weeks, and then released wearing only a nightie by some mistake, while still very ill. I find it hard to believe, but I have been told she was unable walk or talk when they released her. The doctor at the residential home diagnosed her with pneumonia and she was taken back immediately. My parents had visited her on Saturday, in Wales. They say she knew who my mum was, and said her name, and as they left she told her she loved her. I have been told it's the same thing my grandmother said to my mum in the hospital, before she died. I think - she thinks they may have known, that perhaps they were close to dying.

Today I have been practising how to scan negatives with my scanner. It took 3 or 4 hours but I know how to do it now. I only have three test ones for now, but they aren't too bad (the next ones will be twice as clear, when I have the time).

Here is one of the 3 test ones (the large version is half the quality I will be going for).

Surprise! John, Jean and Jessica came back from Australia about 3 weeks ago. I saw them for the first time again, the weekend before last (3rd to 5th of March).

I have spent all of this weekend renaming and remaking all my photo albums, to make them easier for me to keep organised. It was the summer when I last did that. I had to delete them all, then rename and resize around 1,480 photos individually, and remake the albums in a new location.

There are now large, and medium versions of every album since Nov. 04. So you can enjoy the larger ones if your screen resolution is big enough, otherwise the medium ones are fine, and only a little smaller.
