ZIG ZAG, Not Rounded

Lovely typeface by Benoît Bodhuin, ZIGZAG. Now available in two styles, rounded and not rounded versions. I love the whimsical feel of this font bringing a ton of personality to the typography.

As described by it's creator, "ZIGZAG is a funny rounded font whose letters have four varieties each in order to multiply expressions and attract the eye by breaking the rhythm of reading.

The variations oscillate between a hand-drawn design and a geometric or imaginative drawing. Opentype's function lets you choose between different variations of each glyph and contextual variables allow to mix the styles.

Huy Anh Le dropped me a line wanting to share some of their projects at Studio Egregius. It's not everyday I hear about a design studio based out of Vietnam.

Studio Egregius is a multidisciplinary design studio, doodling while kerning, painting while writing, snapshooting while die-cutting, coding while rendering, googling while daydreaming, self-caffeinating while brainstorming, working hard while keeping sane.

Lovely work by Spanish studio atipo® who work on some very interesting multidisciplinary priojects for various clients. Fontface particularly caught my attention. The integration of beauty, make up, typography, and photography. A make-up that joins the expression of gesture and text to create a collection of posters in honour of four outstanding types designers. Beautifully done my friends! :)

Dexter Season 5 Poster

Happen to come across this great silk-screened poster that defines Dexter Season 5 in various illustrations and iconic imagery. Created by Mattson Creative, these are a limited edition of 200 posters available through the Showtime website. You can also read more about the documented process of creating the poster here. Lovely to watch, and that sticker on the silk-screen press machine is awesome, ha!

Oh Mai Mai!

Just a fun and experimental type and character design by Panamanian designer, Jorge Artola. "Oh! Mai! Mai!" is a single—regular weight—playful font complete with a special characters set. When used appropriately, it's great for illustrations, t-shirts, or display type. As Jorge says it, "don't be afraid...it's free!". Robinsson Cravents - New

John Larigakis

Just took a quick glance at CAP's IDEA Gradshow website that recently launched. Among others, the work of John Larigakis really stuck out -- specifically his packaging design concepts for Henkel, Six Vines, and Made Apparel. Not only that, even his morphological sketches of initial ideas that were jot down on his sketch-pad seem neat and organized, which can sometimes tell a lot about a designer's working process. It's always inspiring to see the fresh work of design students such as John. If you're from Vancouver or from a local studio in the city, keep an eye for this guy -- he's got nice work! Fort Langley Cyclery

Awesome little bike shop just right around the corner in Fort Langley. The Cyclery specializes in road-worthy bicycles: from stylish, comfortable, yet practical city bikes, to some of the world’s best, most beautiful racing machines. I found out about them through Sarah, as she often goes to Fort Langley. After visiting their store, I wanted to blog about it, as I enjoyed their clean white space and company logo. It was refreshing to see this store in Fort Langley, as most retail stores in the area seem be slapped together with very little concept behind their brands. I felt that the Cyclery's brand image suited the area and its purpose as a bike shop. I wanted to wait until a proper website was launched before I mentioned it here. I'm sure any locals who appreciate bikes and clean white spaces would appreciate the shop as much as I do. If you're looking to get a bike this summer or sometime soon, pay them a visit and support them. They are friendly people who will offer you great customer service. They will customize and assemble a bike suited for you as they also run a full service shop. Also, if you're feeling like going for a bike ride in the Fort Langley area, they also do bike rentals. I had my eye on the Traitor Ringleader - a cool fixie they had on display. Now that they have a website, you can pay them a visit online. Check them out.

C13-HEX

I love gifts. Lucian from C13 just sent me this awesome gift. Just wanted to say "thank you" to the guys at Cypher 13 for sending this. I've always enjoyed their work and their recent experiments with type design and C13-HEX is one of their latest. Extra geometric in nature and intended predominantly for display and logotype utilities, C13 HEX was built atop an isometric triangular grid. Font soon to be released, so if you like what you see, keep an eye out for it.

Badona - New Typeface

Oguzhan Ocalan from graviart, a studio focusing on logo design + typography recently launched a fresh new typeface, Badona. It's an opentype custom face available in two weights, Regular and Light. Badona is applicable for both web and print environments. It's ideal for magazines, brochures, posters, and flyers among other mediums. Badona is also perfect for logos. It comes in 232 glyphs and supports Turkish and West European languages. Aesthetically, this typeface is elegant and offers a unique feel in application. After four months of hard work, Oguzhan is proud to release this to the public, and it's currently available at HypeForType and MyFonts type foundries. Head over there and support him!

Pretty crazy illustrations by this California-based artist, Cheeming Boey. Choosing an alternative medium to express his art, Boey draws his black and white designs on polystyrene cups. It's always great to see such a mundane medium used in a creative way. Hey! At least they are not ending up in a landfill. Perhaps too much time spent on coffee shops? Whatever the case may be, it's creative time well spent. All designs are one of a kind, and no two are alike. You may check him out on his Flickr or buy his art on Etsy.

Beautiful hand-assembled, fixed gear and track bikes created from new, old stock and vintage parts, resulting in a bike that you probably won't find anywhere else. At Bertelli, every bike is a unique design. Working out of NYC, Francesco's craftsmanship speaks for itself when it comes to building pure, clean, "old-fashioned" track bikes.
