Lovely typeface by Benoît Bodhuin, ZIGZAG. Now available in two styles, rounded and not rounded versions. I love the whimsical feel of this font bringing a ton of personality to the typography.

As described by it's creator, "ZIGZAG is a funny rounded font whose letters have four varieties each in
order to multiply expressions and attract the eye by breaking the
rhythm of reading.

The variations oscillate between a hand-drawn design and a geometric or
imaginative drawing. Opentype's function lets you choose between
different variations of each glyph and contextual variables allow to mix
the styles.

The funny rounded font exists now
in Not Rounded version!"

Thanks to Tomas Shanahan, a recent graduate from RMIT in Melbourne for reviving this old beast. Have a look through his portfolio. We particularly enjoyed his Pixelcutter work. Thanks for sharing :)
Lovers.” Slanted looks into blackletter fonts and their modern applications. Slanted presents the innovative work of Invisible Creature (Seattle), historic type-treasures from the archives of Linotype (Bad Homburg) and Klingspor Museum (Offenbach), the photo documentation “True Norwegian Black Metal” from Peter Beste (New York) etc. ...The sections “Fontlabels, Fonts & Families,” “Fontnames Illustrated” and “Typolyrics” introduce contemporary blackletter fonts and designers from all over the world (e.g. Aeronaut/Georg Herold-Wildfellner, SAR-Lupe/David Millhouse, Adso/Bruno Bernard), followed by interviews with Alejandro Paul, Bernard Stein, Alex Trochut and Christophe Szpajdel and an interesting type essay by Horst Wöhrle.

Furthermore Slanted Magazine introduces numerous (blackletter-)projects of professionals and students (Jeremy Hall, schmitz & wiesner, s=eee etc.). The chapter introduction pages are decorated with Hubert Jocham’s headline-font “NeoThorn S10,” exclusively created for this issue in two styles. Slanted's readers can get the beta-version of this brand new typeface for free. Furthermore Hubert Jocham created the text typeface “NeoText S10” which will be available at type foundry Volcano Type.

This 164 page issue completes Slanted's 4-part-poster-series and forms now the 4-word-sentence ”Porn 4 Type Lovers.” When you buy the issue via Paypal you get a free access to Slanted's portfolio area. There you can present your fresh (typographic) projects or new fonts.

<img style="cursor:pointer; This Columbian designer has been creating some very interesting projects in past few months. I had the pleasure of chatting him up on Skype the other day and from a guy who possesses great talent, I must say, he is a pretty humble and down to earth fellow. Have a peek at his portfolio, either on Behance or his personal site. Among others, the work of John Larigakis really stuck out -- specifically his packaging design concepts for Henkel, Six Vines, and Made Apparel. Not only that, even his morphological sketches of initial ideas that were jot down on his sketch-pad seem neat and organized, which can sometimes tell a lot about a designer's working process. It's always inspiring to see the fresh work of design students such as John. If you're from Vancouver or from a local studio in the city, keep an eye for this guy -- he's got nice work! Check him out. See more of his work at the Gradshow (April 26, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 9:00pm at the Harbour Center) or on his online portfolio.

<img style="cursor:pointer; The Cyclery specializes in road-worthy bicycles: from stylish, comfortable, yet practical city bikes, to some of the world’s best, most beautiful racing machines. I found out about them through Sarah, as she often goes to Fort Langley. After visiting their store, I wanted to blog about it, as I enjoyed their clean white space and company logo. It was refreshing to see this store in Fort Langley, as most retail stores in the area seem be slapped together with very little concept behind their brands. I felt that the Cyclery's brand image suited the area and its purpose as a bike shop. I wanted to wait until a proper website was launched before I mentioned it here. I'm sure any locals who appreciate bikes and clean white spaces would appreciate the shop as much as I do. If you're looking to get a bike this summer or sometime soon, pay them a visit and support them. They are friendly people who will offer you great customer service. They will customize and assemble a bike suited for you as they also run a full service shop. Also, if you're feeling like going for a bike ride in the Fort Langley area, they also do bike rentals. I had my eye on the Traitor Ringleader - a cool fixie they had on display. Now that they have a website, you can pay them a visit online. Check them out.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 575px; height: 267px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S6kzEovUXlI/AAAAAAAABkE/x5XM8AOFreY/s800/flc-shopcounter.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451944978657074770" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 575px; height: 256px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S6kzETymBqI/AAAAAAAABj8/XEHvmQeRYj4/s800/flc-hipsters-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451944973033670306" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 575px; height: 267px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S6kzD9156lI/AAAAAAAABj0/23N86qWSbRk/s800/flc-shopservice-b.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451944967141976658" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 575px; height: 256px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S6kzDryO2uI/AAAAAAAABjs/w2cLZ0WpcDs/s800/flc-hipsters-2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451944962294733538" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 575px; height: 267px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S6kzDRFUe9I/AAAAAAAABjk/nSml5-ljsZ4/s800/JonAlyssaa.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451944955127036882" />

Photography/Design by James Moes
(Nice work!).

Back to top

C13-HEX

I love gifts. Lucian from C13 just sent me this awesome gift. Just wanted to say "thank you" to the guys at Cypher 13 for sending this. I've always enjoyed their work and their recent experiments with type design and C13-HEX is one of their latest. Extra geometric in nature and intended predominantly for display and logotype utilities, C13 HEX was built atop an isometric triangular grid. Font soon to be released, so if you like what you see, keep an eye out for it.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 550px; height: 311px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S47Lx7YS0yI/AAAAAAAABjc/nCtsCONptic/s800/C13.HEX.02.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444513058151125794" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 550px; height: 311px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S47LxrDiWbI/AAAAAAAABjU/v7B1mD_Lc0s/s800/C13.HEX.06.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444513053769095602" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 550px; height: 311px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S47LxFl3CQI/AAAAAAAABjM/n6X5zqRgO0M/s800/C13.HEX.09.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444513043712510210" />

Back to top

Badona - New Typeface

Oguzhan Ocalan from graviart, a studio focusing on logo design + typography recently launched a fresh new typeface, Badona. It's an opentype custom face available in two weights, Regular and Light. Badona is applicable for both web and print environments. It's ideal for magazines, brochures, posters, and flyers among other mediums. Badona is also perfect for logos. It comes in 232 glyphs and supports Turkish and West European languages. Aesthetically, this typeface is elegant and offers a unique feel in application. After four months of hard work, Oguzhan is proud to release this to the public, and it's currently available at HypeForType and MyFonts type foundries. Choosing an alternative medium to express his art, Boey draws his black and white designs on polystyrene cups. It's always great to see such a mundane medium used in a creative way. Hey! At least they are not ending up in a landfill. Perhaps too much time spent on coffee shops? Whatever the case may be, it's creative time well spent. All designs are one of a kind, and no two are alike. You may check him out on his Flickr or buy his art on Etsy.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 550px; height: 367px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S2s2lWA4O2I/AAAAAAAABi0/7gM-SUYMfsA/s800/iamboey01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434497390544960354" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 550px; height: 412px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S2s2k7GZDtI/AAAAAAAABis/IWHP5lTnB9g/s800/iamboey02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434497383320325842" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 550px; height: 412px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S2s2j4a19aI/AAAAAAAABik/sqFzDLqGHUU/s800/iamboey03.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434497365420930466" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 550px; height: 366px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jfQO4uCbSLQ/S2s2jNy08iI/AAAAAAAABic/0IW6svfMbV0/s800/iamboey04.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434497353978802722" />

Back to top

Bertelli - Biciclette Assemblate

Beautiful hand-assembled, fixed gear and track bikes created from new, old stock and vintage parts, resulting in a bike that you probably won't find anywhere else. At Bertelli, every bike is a unique design. Working out of NYC, Francesco's craftsmanship speaks for itself when it comes to building pure, clean, "old-fashioned" track bikes.
