I know for a fact that the year leading up to the UCAS deadline was certainly no walk in the park. In this year I had to decide how I wanted my future to pan out and what options I had available to me. By way of writing this Im hoping it will help someone in similar circumstances. At the time of writing I have applied and I’m waiting to get the grades before starting the course as of September 2012. I can’t wait and think it will be a great experience, but it wasn’t always my first choice, in fact nothing was really my first choice

The biggest choice is university in many people’s opinion, and I wholeheartedly agree with this. Everything from the choice of university and course, down to the student way of life are a big step forward. For me there was even more to consider such as the tuition fees that will rise as of my first year.

Learn more about how the fees actually work, don’t be scared by the news stories.

Although it wasn’t a major deciding factor for me, the new fees put me off until I learnt more about them and how the new system works. Once I understood how fees would effect me I could move onto the next step, choosing a course and university.

Visit University open days

I arrived at my first University open day still not knowing what I wanted to focus on, just knowing I would like to go to University. I attended a few different lectures and had a look around the facilities. The day was coming to a close and still nothing, nothing that grabbed me. The last lecture was an IT one. I was sat in the theatre as one of the IT lecturers went through the course and I was overcome with a feeling of relief and excitement. This was the course for me. Ever since I’ve been buzzing about it. This is why I recommend attending at least one open day at a university, it may just open your eyes to the perfect course. Also ask questions before, during and after, that’s what the days are for!

Start exploring your future soon

Even a year of researching future possibilities flew by. If you can, start looking into your future as early as possible. This means you can look into university and really take time to learn more about other options available to you.

Useful websites

Whilst in the year of ‘limbo’ about my future a number of sites became quite useful for seeing alternatives to university such as apprenticeships, short courses and moving direct to work. I’ll list them off with a brief description.

Notgoingtouni – Packed full of job opportunities, apprenticeships, alternative courses, advice and resources.
Apprenticeship website – Official government website for apprenticeships.
The Student Room – Student forum

I hope this can be of some help to anyone currently in this situation, even if it’s just the links as these sites were all invaluable to me. Just remember that whatever you choose
to do it isn’t permanent and things can be changed, but importantly make the most of it. If you want to contact me just post a comment below or use details on the contact page, I’m more than happy to talk.

After a few weeks of setting up, finding the right plugin’s and themes I can now introduce Chooseado.

Focused around creating a comprehensive directory of every possible productivity app, Chooseado allows users to contribute, explore, comment, share and discover applications.

Now Chooseado has launched it’s time to start working on developing the site and adding more functionality.

Disable Spotify Posting To Facebook

For some the Spotify auto-posting to Facebook feature is great for sharing what you’re listening to and what your friends are listening to.

However if you want to keep the functionality of Facebook connect but remove the auto-posting you simply need to go in Spotify to ‘Edit > Preferences…’ and untick the following option.

This way you can still connect with friends within Spotify, but also keep your profile clear of public updates.
