How to have an AWESOME 2013!

This is very similar to the post I made one year ago. There are a few simple changes.

We hear all the time how important it is to set goals. Well, there’s a reason for that… They work!Listen to this killer method and learn how to easily set some goals that will change your life. Really.

There are many methods out there for creating goals. Many are good. I’m going to introduce you to something new.

A New Way To Create Your Goals

Here’s a method I’m using right now! This was developed by using components of several different people’s ideas on goal setting. I know you’ll love this. Bottom line is, follow the steps. This is about RESULTS, not about writing down a bunch of words and forgetting them.

At the end of 2013, you will realize that this exercise in “goal setting” made a huge difference in your life. Here we go…

The Goal System

STEP 1

Get a paper notepad (no computers or laptops – too distracting!) that will be used JUST for this.

On the first page, write a list of items, one per line, consisting of things in your life that are important. This is your list, so include whatever you want. Mine looks something like this:

Spriritual

Family

Love/relationships

Friends

Hobbies

Travel

Fitness

Income

Helping Others

Location

They are in no particular order, it doesn’t matter, just write down everything that is important like the above example.

STEP 2

On the next page at the very top, write “December 31st 2013”

Choose one of the topics and write a few paragraphs AS IF that goal were already accomplished and you were living it. Write out of gratitude and excitement about your accomplishment for that goal.

Here is my example for “Hobbies”. I have a couple, so I’ll share the first one with you that I plan to accomplish.

HOBBIES

I love my new hobbies! This year I learned to fly helicopters and actually got my pilot’s license. It’s so amazing to cruise the skies and see everything from that perspective. Made some great new friends. These people know how to have fun! It’s great to be able to catch a lift somewhere with a buddy, or take a bird somewhere and spend a few days. What an amazing new accomplishment!

That’s it! If you have more than one thing for that item, just leave a space and keep writing.

Do this for each item on your list. Be as descriptive as you can, and try to use emotion in your words, like “it feels so great to…” etc.

Here is the SECRET SAUCE

EVERY DAY take a few minutes and READ every one of your goals. Just read it.

NOW, pick ONE of them and spend 3-5 minutes imagining it. For example, I would take about 1 minute and read through each one of my written out goals. Then, in a quite place where there won’t be any distractions, I would choose one for that day, say hobbies, and spend 3-5 minutes imagining that I had already achieved that goal and how grateful I am that I accomplished that it. Simply imagine yourself living that goal. 3-5 minutes.

DO THIS EVERY DAY!!

FINAL STEP

Map out a plan and TAKE ACTION. I’ll be the first to tell you that it isn’t going to work if you just sit around and imagine things happening. Sorry. IT REQUIRES ACTION!

The final step is to create an action plan for each one of the items then actually TAKE THE REQUIRED ACTION. This can be done as you go, the IMPORTANT thing is getting your items on paper NOW. Do it TODAY.

The items are your destination. The action plan is your road map.

Determine the destination. Map out the route, then take steps every day toward your destination. Guess what… When December 31st rolls around again, you will be amazed at the things you’ve accomplished.

I hope this helps you.

I wish you a Very Happy New Year and all the best to you and yours!

David Corbaley

P.S. leave a comment and tell me if this helps you!

Well, not actually living there, thank goodness, but I’ll tell you that it CAN happen to anyone.

I wanted to share a quick story and also share how you can make a huge difference in someone’s life this week.

We usually try and give to people in need on a fairly regular basis. At the very least we will around the holidays, whether it’s bagging/boxing food at a food bank or helping out at a shelter or even donating money. It ALL helps.

Today, we boxed up a bunch of items that we learned were needed at the local “Tent City”. If you don’t know what that is, let me tell you.

Tent City is made of of every day people, just like you or I, that for whatever reason or series of events ended up on hard times. They lost their home and now must live in what are called “Tent Cities”. These are located throughout various cities. I’m sure you have them where you live too.

This SUCKS. Imagine not having a home in the middle of winter. Living in a camp with 100+ other people. Sharing toilets. Sharing food. Always cold. Wondering what’s going to happen to you and your family.

SUCKS…

I took my kid down there because 1. he needs to understand how fortunate he is to have a warm home and food, and 2. I want him to learn that it’s probably not the best thing to whine about us not buying him $300 DR Dre headphones. REALLY? Look kid, you’re 11. You want that stuff, earn it. They make ’em for $49 bucks that are just as good or even better. Guarantee he won’t buy them with his own cash…

Anyway, my wife went to the store and got all sorts of things they said they needed. Coffee, plates, cups, flatware, etc. Simple stuff. Imagine being excited about a stupid cup of coffee or even your own cup. All while we sit in our warm house and watch some idiots on the boob tube so we can tune out the real world. Nothing wrong with that. If you earn it and that’s what you like, go for it. Not judging, just pointing out how there are people living a crappy existence right under our noses.

We can help! You and I can make a difference. We can make another human feel good, and know that someone is a little better off because of us. Even if just for a short while.

Anyway, it felt great to drop that stuff off today. They needed it.

I’d encourage you to take just a little time and find who in your area needs a helping hand. There’s plenty of opportunity to help. Take a couple hours one afternoon and do your part. Make a difference.

Thanks for reading

What system, and what the heck does it have to do with passion?

I titled it this way for a reason. Another very important lesson (2 actually) I learned over the past year is about following 2 things; your passion, and a proven system.

If you’re trying to build a business of any kind, and you truly want it to be a successful business, these 2 components are a must.

Let’s start with passion. Think for a moment what you do in your daily life. Really just pause for a moment and think. Do you love it? Is it everything you dreamed it would be? Or, are you just going through the required motions, day after monotonous day, doing what you HAVE to do in order to get by?

This is where passion really comes into play. I know you’ve heard it before, just like I have, for years. However, when you finally REALLY hear it, this is where it gets interesting. I hope you REALLY hear it right now. If you’re not doing what YOU want to do. If you;re not doing that thing in your daily life that makes your heart sing… why not?

That’s easy. There are bills to pay, and responsibilities to take care of right? Sure.

I want you to think of something you really love to do. What’s that thing that makes you love life? Take a moment and ask yourself. Even if you haven’t done that “thing” or thought about that “thing” in years. Whatever it is, take one minute right now and picture yourself doing it, and only that one thing. Go.

Well, how do you feel now? Did it lighten up your attitude, even just a tiny bit?

OK, now try this. Do that same thing, only really imagine yourself doing “it”. Close your eyes and feel what it feels like to be done that one thing that you really love to do, no matter what it is. Go.

See! You feel lighter, right? For a brief moment, you felt happiness, whatever your current situation. THAT, my friend is your passion. That is what you were meant to feel.

My point I’m trying to make is, there is absolutely something you LOVE to do. Guess what. you CAN find a way to do that something as a way of life. Whatever it is. You truly can.

Whether it’s real estate or fishing. Golfing or cooking. Horseback riding or painting. It doesn’t matter! Decide what you’re passion truly is, I mean, what could you do every day that would make you want to jump out of bed excited to get at it? Find your passion, then…

Let’s talk about systems. When you know your passion, sometimes you don’t quite know how to put it to use and make a living following that passion. That’s where a system comes into place.

With a system, you don’t have to figure it all out from scratch. See, there’s almost always someone that’s gone before you and become successful at what you want to do. This is great news!

Most likely, once you seek out and find that successful person who’s following a passion similar to yours, you’ll find that they’ve created a system. That system is the key to the foundation of your happy, passion-following life!

Sometimes they may have created a system that you can actually obtain from them, them simply implement. Other times, you may just need to reach out and make contact. Yes, actually ask them for guidance. What, does that sound “scary”? That’s ok! We’ve all felt a little uncomfortable about certain things.

Let me ask you, what’s the alternative? Will you just decide to go back to what you’re doing and say “oh well, I’ll never be able to live my dream life like that guy or that girl”. BULL!

Choose to be different! Choose to live YOUR life on YOUR terms! That’s how it was meant to be. Reach down inside yourself and decide to live free! You can. You really can, I promise you.

Find your inspiration. Find your passion. Love your life.

I hope you heard my message, and I hope it makes a difference for you.

Well, it’s finally over! The last week was my birthday week and I had a great time. I ate whatever I wanted, including too many chocolate brownies. Enjoyed tons of goodies and to top it off, I didn’t go to the gym even once! I did go for a run one morning with the dog, which I was happy about.

Now I’m excited to start a new year, with new plans, because during the last week I had plenty of time to reflect on the last year of my life and the things that I accomplished. What I liked about it, and things that I would like to change. What I want to do is share a few things with you in the hopes that I can pass off some ideas on some of the challenge that I had, so you can possibly avoid having those same challenges.

The first idea I want to share with you is the art of staying focused. What I mean by that, is it’s very easy to be focusing on one or two things and then you have other things coming at you from many different directions. It’s too easy many times to make a decision to start working on these new projects that come at you, without really evaluating whether or not this is the best use of your time. Especially if you have a habit of trying to keep people happy. When you lose your primary focus on the primary project or two that you might be working, on those projects will suffer and it’ll take you longer to finish them. This will also affect the entire team that’s working on that particular project with you.

Here’s my suggestion to avoid making the same mistakes that I made several times over the last year:

Do your best to stay focused on one or two main projects. Period. Have the project’s mapped out with timelines and targeted dates for benchmarks and completion dates. When distractions come your way, spent a few minutes or even longer in order to decide whether or not this new project or this new topic deserves your attention, and a specially to decide if it deserves your dedicated time, which will pull your time away from your primary project. Many times you’re going to find that after some evaluation of the distraction or the new potential project, it’s the best idea to stay focused on your primary project and put the new one on the back burner until you actually have time to give it your full attention.

Using this one strategy and staying disciplined enough to say “no” to new projects will enable you to do many more things and accomplish much more with your current amount of time available to you.
I have a few more ideas on the things that I’ve learned over the last year that I plan to do differently. I’ll share those with you in a future blog Post. I hope this one simple idea helps you.

Until next time, take care.

David

I want to share a short story that made me really realize something this past week. I mean, I already knew this, but what I did REALLY made me get it.

I actually went camping last week, and decided to leave everything at home. I did take my cell phone, of course, just in case I needed to make a call. I have an iPhone, so I can get email, internet and all that stuff on the phone.

There was intermittent service where we were, BUT, I decided to just shut my phone off for the duration of the trip.

You have to understand, I usually check my email within the first half hour of waking up, before I go to the gym. It took a little discipline, but here are the results:

I decided not to check my email until the morning after we got back home. We were only gone for 3.5 days, but I actually had 705 unread messages. Really? 705 in just 3 days? Yes. Now, some people may get much more, some less, but here’s the deal.

About 97% of those messages were plain garbage. Promos from people whose list I’m on, unimportant crap, just junk most of it.

What it made me realize, I mean really realize, is that we have waaaaay too much noise in our lives. I mean, think about how much time you spend in a day on your email, facebook, tv, etc. It probably adds up to quite a bit if you’re like most people.

I decided to make some changes. I decided to:

1. Not check my email – not even get on my computer BEFORE I was done with things that are MUCH more important in my life. Waking up, getting breakfast, walking and feeding the dog and enjoying the quiet morning while I’m out, spending time with the family as they have breakfast, hitting the gym, coming home, getting ready, eating again, planning my day, THEN, and ONLY then, I’ll sit down in front of my computer and check my email for the first time.

2. Only looking at my email 2-3 times per day, at set times, unless I’m waiting on something from a worker or webmaster, etc.

3. Staying OFF facebook, yahoo, news sites, etc. during work time. Why in the heck would I be on there when I’m supposed to be working? Yeah, it’s my own business, but it’s a business, NOT a hobby! Get to work!

4. Unsubscribing from all of the crap I get in my email! If the sender is legitimate, there will be some type of unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email. Just unsubscribe! Unless of course they actually DO provide useful information (like I do!), or you like what they have to offer. Otherwise, get it out of your inbox for good.

The results so far have been amazing! My productivity has gone through the roof in just the few short days I’ve been doing this. I highly suggest you give it a shot and see what happens.

Do me a favor, and tell me what you think of this post. Also share what you might be doing or have already implemented that helps with your productivity.

Just leave a comment below by clicking on the “comments”, it’s easy.

Thanks, and have a great week!

David

Recently, I’ve posted a couple of images on my facebook account that are an image of my iphone screen, like so:

Many people immediately asked “how the heck do you do that?”

Well, here’s the simple answer:

Simply press the HOME (round button on face of phone) and the ON/OFF (button on top of phone where earphone jack is) buttons at the same time!

Your screen will flicker and you may here a camera type “click”.

Now, your image can be found in your camera roll. Easy, huh?

This can be a useful tool, or something to have fun with as well.

Enjoy!
