Those of us who don’t have the body of an Adonis, for instance, often find it tricky to feel dignified while wearing a swimsuit. Until recently, the mens swimwear market has seemed rather polarized – either you take the chance with a tight pair of figure hugging briefs, or you risk looking childish in a pair of baggy shorts.

For many, the lack of in-between options has made shopping for appropriate swimwear a tricky task that involves wading through garish patterned shorts, constricted tight briefs and struggling to find anything that can be worn with confidence.

Thankfully, new trends in swimwear have been brought in to fill this gap in the market, with slightly shorter lengths, narrower profiles and costumes designed to avoid ‘ballooning” when entering the water.

Men’s fashion designer Durand Guion said: “Now it’s about the trunk that’s a little more forgiving. There’s enough coverage so he can feel comfortable, specifically a guy who’s older and doesn’t have six-pack abs.”

A range of new costume designs have filled the market designed to flatter figures of all shapes and sizes – not just swimsuit models. For short, stocky builds, a lengthy short that finishes just above the knee with side racing stripes makes the wearer appear more elongated.

Skinny legged beach-goers can benefit from cargo-style pockets on the suit to pad out the thin leg shape and for men with a larger mid-section, subtle colour schemes such as camouflage patterns help to distract from the stomach region, while an elastic waistband avoids cutting into the gut.

The mid-length styles available from Very.co.uk can also be worn away from the pool with greater success than their short-length alternatives. Whereas square cut trunks and bikinis require another pair of shorts to be worn over the top when away from the pool, mid-length shorts worn with just a T-shirt and a pair of flip-flops is perfectly acceptable casual attire to be worn while picking up a bite to eat or embarking on a spot of shopping.

Having a few David Venter’s out there on the world wide web could make things somewhat confusing. I already had an incident where someone thought that davidventer.com and twitter.com/davidventer belonged to me, which is not the case. As a soon to be up-and-coming artist and author I need to create a unique identity to avoid any confusion.

On the other hand; I’ve worked really hard to build the David Venter online brand and identity, and I don’t know if it is really necessary to change all that simply because I’m not the only David Venter out there. I’m having serious mixed feelings about this and I’m not quite sure which direction to take – This is why I’m reaching out to you guys.

I need your help in resolving my identity crisis! If you’d be so kind as to complete the form below I would be most grateful, and who knows, maybe I’ll even pick your suggestion(s).

The last time I shared my voice with anyone other than my immediate family was many years ago when I used to sing in church, regional religious holiday gatherings and once I even performed on an International Christian Satellite TV network. A lot of time has passed since then; I’ve even opened my mind to accept the reality of the word, thereby dropping my religion. I didn’t want to dig up and upload old gospel music just to share my voice, I had to record something new.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to a professional studio. The vocal recording was done here at my home using a standard built-in computer mic, then I sent the separate vocal and music files to a friend who worked his magic to put it all together as best he could, even with the terrible sound quality from my computer mic vocal recordings. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. Have a listen…

I plan on using some of my savings to purchase a decent microphone so that I can make better home recordings. If all goes as planned I’ll be recording a few more covers from different genres so that you guys can hear what my voice sounds like with different styles of music. Then, I’ll be working with someone to write and produce original songs, professionally. – It’s all finally coming together and I’m loving every minute of life. Now if only I can actually get focussed enough to finish writing my novel and save up enough money to join a drama school then I’ll be doing everything I’ve wanted to do since I was 8 years old.

It’s never too late to follow one’s dreams!

The night before was even stranger; I dreamt that I was hanging out with an old friend who also used to be a client back in the day when I still did web development and sold wireless internet subscription services. In my dream I accidentally re-submitted the friend’s old wireless application. Upon realizing this we all got magical powers like some of the warcraft game character abilities and we went to raid the head office where the wireless submission form were sent, killing the monster boss with our special abilities. – I guess this just shows that I probably spend way too much time playing computer games, but why the reference to the old friend and business in my dream?

Should I perhaps start seeing a therapist again? Have I gone totally cray cray? LOL. I’m not really complaining; I just find it really strange and wonder what the hidden subconscious meaning behind all this could be, if anything. Either way, these dreams are really fun, I’m starting to enjoy my time asleep.

After finishing Mount Hyjal and Deepholm I once again returned to Outland in hopes of finishing off the remaining zones. I Googled for help, read reviews and comments on WoWHead, WoWPedia, etc. but none of the suggestions really seemed to help. I had completed all of the quests that most of the commenters suggested as the final chain for said areas.Then I remembered; often repeatable quest NPC’s with a blue ‘?’ or “!” over their heads could also have a yellow quest which you may not know about until you actually speak to them. This got me much closer to finishing all the Outland zones but I was still missing a few quest.

I stumbled upon QuestHelper while searching Curse for plugins which may aid me. The plugin tells you how to finish your quests in the easiest, fastest manner. It includes a database of quests, monsters and items telling you the exact location of that dang item you can’t find. It also computes the fastest path to complete all your quests, and gain experience – as quickly as possible. At first I thought this wouldn’t be of any use to me this far into finishing the Outland Loremaster achievement, since most plugins like these require to be installed from the start in order to track what you’ve done. In my desperation I decided to install it anyway. There’s no harm in trying right?

It worked – The plugin didn’t show any of the quests I’ve already completed. Upon opening the world map I saw a few little purple dots of the final missing quests I still had to complete. Obviously it wasn’t always as easy as simply flying to the purple dot on the map since some quests were chains coming in from other zones like Zangarmarsh and Shadowmoon Valley but with the help from the plugin I was at least able to see the name of the unfinished quests, look them up on WoWHead and figure out ways to complete them. It really helps knowing the name of the outstanding quests.

If you’re struggling to finish the Outland Loremaster achievement, remember to check you blue “?” NPC’s for yellow quests, and I highly recommend installing the QuestHelper plugin. I was able to easily finish the achievement. Now I can move on to finish Northrend and Cataclysm zones with help from the plugin to finally get the Loremaster achievement title and colors. I hope this helps those a who are stuck trying to finish some zones. – Happy gaming!

Looking at my revamped website, my lady parts become heavy with dew. I think it’s fucking fabulous even if I have to say so myself. But who am I kidding, I don’t have any lady parts but you know what I mean; If I had any, there would be a flood. I haven’t been this excited about something new since Stylebop sent me that awesome bag, which I haven’t even taken “out on the town” yet because you know what a hermit I have become. It does however, pleasure me immensely when playing dress-up in the late hours of the night.

It is things like these that make me just want to sit down and blog till my fingers bleed. A sexy website, awesome gifts, and most importantly, you fabulous readers for putting up with all my cray cray-ness over the years. I love you guys!

Someone asked me why I’m so obsessed with playing WoW, especially after I wrote the article about the end of my virtual life. The truth is that Second Life is not a game, there are no levels, no achievement points to be earned, you can’t die or be game over, you can’t end the game because it isn’t a game; It’s an online virtual word, which I took way too seriously to the point where it became my life. The virtual worlds I spend a lot of time in now are just games, I don’t spend thousands of dollars on virtual property, I don’t sell virtual goods, the money isn’t real (unlike Second Life where the Linden Dollar trades with the US Dollar) etc. So, I guess what I’m saying is… STOP getting all up in my grill about my online gaming obsession possibly drawing me back into the dark pit which was my virtual Second Life. It’s not going to happen, it’s just a game. Perhaps you prefer kicking a ball around the yard, going clubbing, watching too much television, or whatever. Me… I like playing games instead. It’s fun, it keeps me young, and I know the difference between fantasy and reality.

I do, however, go through phases where I play no games at all while at other times I would spend nearly 10 hours a day playing games. Balance? Moderation? Bitch, please. I’ve come to learn, after 24 years, that balance and moderation isn’t for me. If you’re going to do something, do it properly to completion and beyond or don’t do it at all. It’s much easier and more productive to focus only the task at hand instead of constantly switching between things in an attempt to balance life. For example: For one week I would do nothing but online gaming (workouts, showers, food, sleep, etc in between breaks of course), totally neglecting my work and studies. And the next week I would finish an entire education course and re-design my website in a couple of days. I guess that I could’ve achieved the same if I “balanced” my days, set specific hours to work, study, play etc. But the fact is that I’ve achieved what I set out to do without any balance or moderation, therefore proving that the old school way of living/thinking taught by previous generations is utter bullshit. This is life 2.0: issues, hangups, balance and moderation not required.

This actually reminds of the biz 2.0 article I wrote a while ago about how archaic business structures ruin the workplace – I guess the same goes for life in general. I really should write a self-help book about all of this to help those who are stuck in archaic thought, shouldn’t I? Or maybe I’ll work some of the wisdom into my Novel  - I’m getting way of topic here, this post was actually just supposed to be an introduction to my new Online Gaming Blog, so let me get back to that. LOL…

My gaming obsession du jour is World of Warcraft; pretty much all I play right now. My main toon is a Lvl 85 Gnome Arcane Mage named Gheighei on the Suramar (US) realm and a proud member of the Knights of NI guild. I’ve even created a separate twitter account to share tweets from travels and battles across Azeroth. If you play World of Warcraft on US realms, get in touch with me. After a few failed attempts at getting out there to embrace the single/social life, I gave up and opted for something that would take my mind off everything; computer games, and I don’t mean Second Life, I mean real games with levels, achievements, quests, etc. You know.. fun stuff to keep my mind off everything. –  For the past month I’ve been playing World of Warcraft almost non-stop, taking the occasional break to study, eat, sleep, shower, fap, etc… yeah, tragic I know. I’ve even neglected my usual unnaturally intense fashion obsession by running random WoW dungeons and battlegrounds instead of keeping up to date with the latest runway shows. What is happening to me? The once extroverted, ambitious queen ready to take on anything has now turned into a shy hermit slash gamer slash person with social phobia – This can’t be good. Or maybe it is good? Maybe I’m finally embracing the person I truly am; a shy and down to earth boy-next-door who lives with his parents, is into hardcore online gaming, loves practicing musical talents in spare time and enjoys writing and publishing random topics of interest such as fashion, technology, etc.

Maybe I’m just a normal boring person after all, not this shiny glamorous rainbow of awesomeness and attitude I’ve always set myself up to be. Maybe I’m over the whole quest for social superiority and shameless social climbing. Maybe I’m just content with doing my own thing, in my own time, without worrying about anything. Or maybe I’m just full of shit LOL.

You see, I’m old school when it comes to love. I believe that once you love someone, you never ever stop loving them, no matter what. This belief makes it a bit difficult to let go of the past, but I also believe that I can, and will, find another love. Since creating new profiles on various dating sites I’ve received many messages from guys who just want to hook up and have fun, “no strings attached.” One night stands rarely excite me. I want romance, and the type of lust and fantasy that can only be fulfilled by someone I know and trust.

As tempting as it is to give in to “NSA” fun, I would prefer at least knowing and trusting the person if anything intimate were to happen. Yes, of course I get horny, but I have two hands and a dildo to take care of that rather than risking disease with some random sleazy trick just to get off.

I’ve also been very shy, withdrawn, and scared of meeting any new people at all. The days of virtual living were fun, I didn’t have to feel self-conscious and I could easily teleport away, or simply log off if things started getting too uncomfortable. And this is exactly why I’ve stopped living that life. It’s not healthy. The only way that I’m actually going to find what I’m looking for is by crawling out of my cave, and opening myself up to new people and new experiences.

Amid all the “NSA” offers there were a few friendly messages worth responding to on some of the dating sites. I’ve started chatting to some people in an effort to “get out there” again, make some new friends, and hopefully find love again, eventually.

Apart from the emotional drama, I’ve really started taking my singing and vocal training seriously. I see a bright future filled with passion, continuing with what I love; blogging, writing, and singing. – The hope to one day “make it big” in these professions is what keeps me going, and I know I will get there.

I really enjoyed getting away from everything for a few hours. No Internet, limited cellphone use, nothing but me and the great outdoors. Don’t get me wrong; I would go absolutely cray cray if I have to stay there for a long time because I just cannot live without technology but I needed a little break.

Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of myself but it completely slipped my mind, can you believe it? I was so relaxed, enjoying the scenery that I didn’t even bother to think “hey, maybe I should take a picture of myself to show my readers” – Sorry guys. Next time I go anywhere I’ll set a reminder on my mobile to snap myself.

I’m not sure when exactly I’ll be visiting my grandparents again, but I suffer from serious writers block and their place may be the perfect location to get the creative juices flowing. If only I actually had my own laptop or iPad I could sit there and let imagination soar, unless I kick it old school with a pen and paper. Sorry iMac but I cannot take you on field trips.

As it turns out, when looking at my Yahoo login history, there were two mobile logins from Brazil and Morocco around the same time that the unsolicited emails started going out. I also had many of the same emails in the Yahoo drafts. – Upon discovering this, I immediately revoked access to all apps, changed my account password and removed my contact list from Yahoo.

Clearly the HTC apps aren’t secure, and backing up my contacts to Yahoo wasn’t a good idea. – I sincerely apologize to all who have received such unsolicited email and ask that you please ignore/delete any mail from the davidventer87 Yahoo account. I repeat: I will never personally send out anything from my Yahoo email account, ever. I only use the davidventer.net domain.

I also urge HTC Android users to avoid using the Friend Stream app for logging into Twitter, Facebook and Flickr – It is not secure; your entire contact list will be compromised.

Many thanks to those who questioned and approached me about the emails because I NEVER checked my Yahoo account for any activity other than the occasional Flickr login.

In all honesty, not much has changed since my last personal blog update. I’m still a hermit, still single and still working on what I’ve been working on. I have however, made an important decision that should drastically improve my life over the coming months…

Remember how I blogged about why I chose to live a virtual life? Well, after much deliberation I’ve finally come to realize that by living a virtual life I was actually wasting my life. Since becoming addicted to Second Life back in 2007, I’ve never thought that I’d actually see the day where I’d say ‘enough, it’s over.’ But that day has come. For far too long I have invested far too much time, energy and money into virtual living that would’ve taken me to great success in the real world, if only I hadn’t waste it all on fake pixel stuffs.

The virtual world that had first seemed to be a modern matrix-like safe haven of imagination and creative freedom has degraded my life down to the point where I’ve become a hermit, never leaving the house unless I absolutely have to, afraid to deal with real people, not having any friends in the nearby physical world, giving up my real world business to focus only on my virtual life, spending thousands of dollars on virtual goods instead of real clothes and electronics, and thinking that it’s all OK, that it’s normal. Maybe I just took things to the extreme? Maybe there are people who can balance living in both the virtual and the real world without hassle? Either way, I’ve woken up and realized that it was destroying me. It is time to put an end to the madness, time to unplug, time to wake up to reality and to take control of my life, my REAL life.

My premium membership will only expire in a few months so I’ll still be logging on from time to time to catch up with friends and to cash out or give any virtual currency. I’ve got nothing against those who still love and live in Second Life but, it’s not for me and I have to move on to things that can bring real joy. I can understand the great value of living a virtual life if you’re disabled or suffering from serious health issues but for me I see no point in living a virtual life. I’m young, healthy and talented with my whole life in front of me. Throwing away physical awesomeness for a pixel perfect virtual life is really just a waste. Second Life is a fun game or virtual art installation that I could log into from time to time but that’s about it. To live a virtual life as if it were my own is unnatural. I have woken up to reality and this is where I choose to stay.

Getting out of this ditch that I’ve “virtually” lived myself into is going to take some time. I’ll have to start getting used to dealing with real people again, going out to real clubs and hanging out with real friends, although this shouldn’t be too difficult, right? It’s only been a couple of yours since I’ve had any such interaction (apart from the occasional shopping and dining-out with my family and boyfriend).  I guess you’ll have to stay tuned to follow me as I quest to find my way back to reality (LOL?). – On the contrary, maybe I’m pulling this way out of proportion? Either way I know that I’ve had enough of the fake pixel bullshit and I want REAL awesomeness. Goodbye virtual life.
