Finding motivation to complete certain tasks isn’t always easy, especially when there are a million other more fun things to do. I’ve been struggling with some self-motivating issues myself and came across an awesome article on 99u stating that the key to getting motivated is to give up. Give up trying to get or find motivation. The simple solution: Forget about finding motivation: Just do it. Forcing oneself to do something without motivation is a whole different issue all together though. Don’t you need motivation to do anything in the first place, to even be able to force yourself to do something? – No. You do not.

Doing things without motivation is easier said than done? Perhaps. But here is what I do: Think of yourself in the third-person. Think of your mind and you personal being as a separate entity; a computer game or avatar that you get to control. Detach yourself emotionally from yourself. Sit back and look at yourself, from a third-person perspective, think what you would command that person to do it they were a game character or avatar in your control. Would you make that person finish that essay, clean the house, complete that work project, start up that new venture, (insert your over due to-do list here), etc? But what if that person doesn’t want to do it? You are in control, remember. You have the power to make that person do anything. You’ve emotionally detached yourself from yourself and your lack of motivation isn’t going to stop things from happening.

I now think of my being as a Sims or Second Life character that I get to control as if it has no feeling and can bend to my will.  This allows me to push past my own issues and force myself to do things for which I would normally require a lot of motivation; even certain things that I don’t want to do, or feel like I can’t do because of my emotional state. Stepping out and looking at yourself from a third-person perspective and controlling that person to do the things that you need to do allows you to make things happen without needing the desire or motivation to do them. So, want to get things done? Give up trying to get motivated and just do it. In the end you will feel a great sense of achievement for being able to control yourself to do the things that you need to do. You will feel satisfied and invincible. And that will give you real motivation to take yourself even further than ever before.

Another weekend, gone. Time just seems to fly by really fast the older I get. Sometimes I wish that it was possible to remain a boy forever. I watched Peter Pan again this weekend. I forgot how much I love that movie. It’s definitely one of my all time favorites.

My whole life I’ve been pushed by myself, my friends and my parents to grow up, be responsible, be independent and professional. I often feel that I’ve bypassed a large part of my childhood because I was always trying to, or encouraged to, be grown-up. It’s as if I am missing some important part of my life. Then I realized something important; We’re never too old to be young. Age is but a number. It’s the mental state and attitude about life in general that really matters. It really is possible to be forever young.

We’re never too old to dream, play games with imagination, watch Disney movies, wear colorful casual clothes or <insert young stereotype here>. There’s no law that prevents us from remaining energetic, vibrant, playful and full of dreams. It is only ourselves, together with unnecessary pressure from society that kills our inner child and makes us old and boring. Giving in to the pressure of the adult stereotype kills imagination and dreams. We lose a part of ourselves and no longer believe that anything is possible and achievable. We kill our own dreams. We think that there are things lacking. We kill our inner child.

In a child’s mind the small things matter; the small things can make you happy and content. In a child’s mind the world is filled with endless possibility. Anything is possible; limitless. Don’t kill your inner child. Don’t get caught up in the unnecessary bullshit and societal stereotypes of how an adult should think and behave. Live outside the box. Be childish. Play. Dream. Enjoy. Have Fun. Forever Young!

Yesterday, my DSL line went down for a few hours and I thought it was going to be another one of those month-long repair jobs to get it back in service. Fortunately, it was down only because of some technical mishap at the exchange and my service was swiftly restored.

In a sense I’m actually glad that my Internet went down for a while because it forced me to do other things, like, actually getting out of the house for a change. I took the moment of disconnected down-time to take my woofer for a walk…

I should probably do this more often. The little guy definitely enjoyed the outing. I also did some cycling, push-ups and sit-ups in hopes of adding some definition to my skinny frame. I probably have like 0% body fat so anything I do in terms of exercise generally yield great results. I just have to stick with it, do it more often, and then maybe I can look like one of them textbook-fag 6-pack gays. In all honesty though, I prefer being skinny over being a muscular bull-gay. Too much definition isn’t sexy either.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to being a hermit and living life on le Interwebz. Oh wait, this is the Internet. Hello. I love you. xoxo

Ok, I’m done thinking about him and done feeling depressed over things which I have no control over. It’s time to move on and open myself up to new people and experiences once again. Thus I’ve re-joined some online dating and friend-finding sites in hopes of finding some genuine connections who at least live in the same country as me.

I’ve made some great friends in the online virtual world and have even connected with some potential partners from far away lands. But, nothing beats real human interaction and I’m getting kind of tired of living a virtual life and would love to return to a near reality (social phobia and anxiety issues aside). Yes, I know, I’ve blogged about this before, extensively. And each time I’ve vowed to let go of my hermit lifestyle. But the truth is that I’ll probably always be a home boy (except for when traveling, of course). I prefer going out only when absolutely necessary, or for valid reason to explore unseen territory and experience new things. As for doing pointless things around town or going out on the very plastic/fake/shallow/pretentious gay scene… No thank you. I’d rather stay home on my computer with my online buddies who aren’t shallow queens, or hang out at home with some real friends (who I hope to make in this area). That’s if I can successfully sift through all the conservative nuns, ego-queens, drug addicts and sluts that fill my inbox daily – who knew that finding real friends near-by could be so hard. Or am I looking in all the wrong places?

Maybe I’m just too picky when it comes to who I choose to spend my time with. But honestly, I’d rather be home alone than to go out with some shallow fake bitch who thinks that the world revolves around how much pills you can pop in one night or how many holes you can shove your dick into in one weekend. There’s nothing cool about that, sorry. There’s so much more to life. So many things to experience and so much beauty to behold if only you look within. I’m looking for friends (and potentially a boyfriend) who’s content with life, happy within themselves, and can enjoy a quiet night in, in good company, sipping wine, enjoying a good cocktail, watching a movie or playing games with friends instead of trying to pop every pill in town or fuck every willing partner.

It’s the simple things in life that count. Being able to just relax and enjoy the simple things with someone is what makes life magical. There’s no need for all this fake fluff. Being oneself while enjoying the simple things with someone is even more magical. If I’m in a silly playful mood I want to be my silly self and not worry about having to pretend to be some fake up-tight bitch to impress some random douche who wants nothing but boring NSA sex. Anyway, you get where I’m going with all this. You get the point.

On the contrary, I’ve been told that my fashion blog makes me look shallow and attracts empty-headed label queens who are into nothing but drugs, dick and parties. But, that’s incorrect. If you think that fashion is shallow; you’re shallow. Fashion is art. Do yourself a favor and read up what fashion means to me, then maybe you’ll understand that it is, in fact, not shallow at all. Art and self-expression is never shallow. Following the norm is shallow.

Also, on a side note: One doesn’t have to own high-end fashion to enjoy the beauty of it on others, it’s a universal thing. Thus I love blogging about it even though my wardrobe isn’t filled with designer goods. I can still appreciate and share the beauty of the fabric art.

Anyway, Here’s hoping that I can discover some new local connections with people who have more substance to them than the amount of pills they pop, dicks they suck, or parties they attend. Dear South African online dating and friend-finding sites, please do me proud.

I’ve been chatting to a friend from Canmore about vacationing in the Canadian Rockies. In case you ever consider vacationing there; I have some useful information to share with you…

Canmore has lots of incredible nature. Scenery which will make your jaw drop, eyes pop and will have you snapping pictures until your pointer finger fatigues! Within the beautiful nature, is lots of untamed wildlife. It is paramount to remember, we are in fact intruders on this land, originally ruled by the wild. Roving freely amongst the splendor of the Canadian Rockies brings us face to face with the force of nature. And although nature is usually on our side, it’s important to be aware, so you can stay and play safely!

Animals

Large mammals populate the Canadian Rockies, and are one of the things which attract people there. There are two sets of animals which command the wild; prey and predator species. The prey species present are deer, elk, mountain goats and moose. They can be every bit as dangerous as the predator species, because of their sheer size and weight! As well as they will do anything to surprise.

It’s important to keep your distance and watch from afar so you don’t experience a damaging wildlife encounter.

The predator species of Canmore include black bears, grizzly bears, cougars, lynx, bobcats, wolverine, coyotes and wolves! A visit to the forested wild lands of the Rockies is a combination of awe and fear. It sometimes makes it difficult to take pleasure in an outing if you are threatened by a predator. Luckily, the reality is, most of the large mammals fear man, unless they are hungry or you threaten their cubs.

Be loud, keep to yourself, and bring some bear spray when you venture into the wilderness.

Bugs

You will be happy to note, Canmore has few mosquitoes and no black flies. The only exception is if the Spring is a wet one. Canmore usually has a late winter storm near the end of June, which usually cures any potential mosquito problems. Midsummer is when the bugs come, specifically deer flies; which are similar to horseflies and very slow in nature. Deer flies do not sting, they bite. Simply slather on some bug repellent and you should be fine.

The thick forested wildlife is a perfect place for ticks. Walkers and hikers should keep their eyes out for these pests during the early spring months of late March through June. Pay close attention to your attire and do a detailed body inspection post trip.

Two years ago I published a guest author’s post on how to get better camera placement in the Second Life viewer. Since then I’ve been playing around with my camera debug settings and over time, I found the perfect camera angle. I’ve never really liked the side-view angle as suggested in the other article and I felt that the camera sat a bit too low for my liking.

In case you haven’t noticed; The default camera sits far behind/above the avatar providing a warped perspective of the virtual world in terms of scale. Content creators who don’t actively build to Real World scale end up creating over-sized builds with ridiculously tall ceilings, over-sized furniture, etc. All because things simply look too small or cramped through the default Second Viewer camera viewpoint. By adjusting the default camera settings we can get a much closer, more immersive view of the virtual world and actually build-to-scale without worrying about things appearing small or cramped. Now without further ado, I bring to you my tried and tested “BEST” camera placement settings for Second Life…

The precise angle of the camera can easily be adjusted according to your preferred preference. Simply follow the instruction below and play with the numbers to create your own perfect view of Second Life.

1. Enable Advanced Menu: Go to Me > Preferences > Advanced and tick ‘Show Advanced Menu’
2. Open Debug Settings: Go to Advanced > Show Debug Settings
3. Type the following values into the box and set numbers accordingly…

CameraOffsetRearView
X: -2.000
Y: 0.000
Z: 0.000

FocusOffsetRearView 
X: 0.900
Y: 0.000
Z: 0.200

Close the Debug window and restart your viewer to make sure that the settings are saved. These settings should now stick and you’ll have a better view of Second Life from here on forward. If you have automatic viewer updates enabled the settings should also stick through updates. You only need to make this modification once (Unless you regularly do clean re-installs of your viewer, in which case you’ll have to make these modifications again.)
