We were wrapping up a workshop on our last day there when we got a text message from Adam, asking if we were free that evening. They had, in true Vegas fashion, spontaneously decided to renew their vows… in just a few hours. So Daniel and I ran – literally – to their room to catch them getting ready before heading off to the famed Little White Chapel for their vow renewal. This was already gearing up to be a very special evening for us, but it hit and even more personal note for us, as we had our own first, civil wedding ceremony at this very same place 4 years earlier. And that evening, the very same minister who married us also officiated Sarah and Adam’s ceremony.

As cheesy as Vegas can be, we know all too well that it also possesses a kind of magic for those in love. As Sarah and Adam exchanged their vows in front of us, their only witnesses, we couldn’t help but get emotional ourselves. These two are so darn great together – we can testify to that! – and to see them recommit themselves to one another in this way was one of those magical, special moments that we will never forget.

Thank you, Sarah and Adam, for being incredible friends to us and for being a beautiful example of marriage. We are so grateful to have been there for this spontaneous moment, and we will never forget it. We love you guys!

Nothing could have prepared Daniel and I for the stunning landscapes and rustic charm of Ireland. Springfield castle, complete with resident peacocks, was definitely one of the most unique locations we have photographed yet… even without any ghostly encounters (much to my disappointment!). On the wedding day, I was happy to play double duty and jump in to do Megan’s makeup – a real testament to this bride’s low-key nature! Megan and Max chose to have their ceremony in the former dungeon, which happens to be the oldest part of the castle, dating back to the 13th century. The space’s dark and moody feel was the perfect contrast to Megan and Max’s joy; shared by everyone in attendance. Following the ceremony, Megan and Max’s intimate group of 15 gathered in the parlor for traditional Irish mead (quite tasty, we thought!) and then feasted on a meal prepared entirely of local – and delicious! – ingredients.

A visit to Ireland simply would not have been complete without a tour of the stunning cliffsides the country is known for, so the day after the wedding, we all piled into a bus and headed off to explore the Dingle Peninsula. With breathtaking views consisting of rolling hills, cliffs, ocean, sheep, and the classic dry stone walls, we could not resist the temptation to grab a few more portraits of Megan and Max. Keen to be a part of it, they literally changed in the back of the bus and trekked through wind and lumpy grass to give us just a few more images!

Thank you, Megan and Max, for allowing us to join your intimate group of 15, for braving the elements for a few more portraits, and for trusting us with the task of capturing your wedding weekend memories.

Stepping back from photography for their special day was a tough task for me, but I knew their wedding memories would be in Daniel’s capable hands, as well as those of our associate photographers at Grey Sparrow, Marie-Christine and Jean-Michel. So on a cold winter’s day in Montreal, Magali and Stefan stuck to their guns and lived out their dream of an outdoor winter ceremony. Stefan had us all laughing and crying as he shouted out his vows, consisting of lyrics from their favorite songs, for the entire park to hear. The band Minuit, featuring both my father and Magali’s, made their second appearance in two years at the reception (the last time was at our wedding in Mexico), and their music ensured that guests never left the dance floor. With MC and JM there, Daniel was more than willing to put his camera down and join the party. As a final personal, musical touch, my sister Arielle and Magali’s father led the couple’s first dance with a sweet rendition of the Civil Wars’ I’ve Got This Friend.

It was an honor to stand along side one of my best friends as she married a man who we just cannot imagine her without, and I know that it was a pleasure for Daniel, MC and JM to document it. Thanks for being in our lives, Magali and Stefan. We love you so very much!

We arrived as Koosha was preparing to retreat to his room, and we immediately knew we were in for a day filled with emotion. The same gestures and sweetness that we had witnessed while video chatting was ever present from start to finish, between the two of them and their families. Even Noura’s father, while no longer with us, made his presence known when the rainy clouds parted, a rainbow appeared, and the sun came out. And all this came just in time for Noura and Koosha’s first look on the pier, which, as Noura told us later, was her favorite part of the day.

This same energy carried through to the ceremony which, despite being in Farsi, brought tears to my eyes. Noura’s mother’s chanting was so beautiful, it literally gave me goosebumps and had the entire room in tears. And of course, as with all Persian weddings, a lively dance party was the icing on the cake to this wonderful day (check out our Facebook page for a shot of my weak attempt at Persian dancing…)!

Noura and Koosha, we know that we have made two lifelong friends in you. We cannot thank you and your families enough for making us a part of your lives. You are two incredibly beautiful people, inside and out, and we feel privileged to have been the ones to capture your wedding day.

Over two days, we will be sharing everything we know about light, composition, documenting weddings, post-production, traveling for weddings, running a successful business, as well as reviewing each photographer and helping them grow as artists.

We had our passport stamped in Guatemala, Japan, Turkey, Bhutan, and Turks and Caicos. We took photos in the ocean, on a volcano, in a 1400 year old Bhudist temple, in a 400 year old mosque, and in a glass chapel on a cliff. We participated in workshops and conferences where we engaged with and were inspired by our talented colleagues from all over the world. But most of all, we worked our butts off and learned a ton. About our industry, about photography, about people, and about ourselves. We may not have relaxed enough, or exercised enough, or spent enough time with our families, but that’s what new year resolutions are for, right?!

2012 also brought with it some recognition from our industry, for which we are tremendously grateful. We were both shocked and honored to be named one of Rangefinder magazine’s Top 10 Most Sought-After Photographers of 2012 and to see our photos grace the cover and 11 spreads of Snapp Magazine Taipei. Each of us had photos awarded and recognized by Junebug’s Best of the Best of 2012, the International Society of Wedding Photographers, and Fearless: the world’s best wedding photography awards. And as the organization’s most award-winning member of the year, Daniel earned the Fearless Photographer of the Year award! I am so proud of him…. but that doesn’t mean I don’t plan on getting him back next year…!

This year came with its challenges and obstacles, but the results of our hard work are more than we could have ever imagined. We have our couples, who trusted us implicitly, to thank; as well as you, whoever is reading this, for your support. By looking at our images, you are supporting us. And for this, we are so grateful. We wish you all a healthy and happy 2013!

On a beautiful, crisp, fall day in Montreal, Lauren and Peter’s vision for an elegant affair came to life. After a touching ceremony, we wisked them off for portraits at a nearby location – our sister studio‘s (Grey Sparrow) office which happens to be right next door. Without any daylight for their portraits, we had the rare opportunity to play with what was available to us in the studio: a projector. If Lauren and Peter felt any concern as we projected images onto them and reassured them that the result would be cool, they certainly didn’t show it! Armed with their trust, we had a blast doing something completely different in these most unusual of circumstances.

The Montreal Fine Arts Museum played host to the affair, their good friend officiated the ceremony, and in true Carolyn and Andrew fashion, a celebratory dance down the aisle replaced the traditional recessional. As expected, a hilarious dance party ensued, as their friends and family, including some well-known TV personalities (Andrew is a news anchor) got involved in some pretty serious dance offs.

Carolyn and Andrew, thank you for selecting us to capture it all. A couple who laughs together stays together – and we have no concerns for the two of you!

It is this sort of thoughtfulness that we have witnessed from Deniz and Khoa from our very first meeting, when they brought homemade treats for our little dog, Coco. It comes to no surprise, therefore, that their friends and families are a tight little bunch, with a whole lot of love flowing through. Both families have embraced each other and each other’s cultures (Deniz is Turkish and Khoa is Vietnamese), and, simply put, it is just a beautiful thing to see.

Deniz and Khoa, it goes without saying that we are thrilled to have you in our lives and to call you friends. We are so grateful that you found us and choose us to capture your beautiful wedding in paradise.

When we met Vanessa and Rob in Cape Cod, we felt that energy right away. The way they look at each other and laugh with each other seems as though they are in on a secret inside joke. Even if you’re not in on it, you still can’t help but smile. Their friends and family seemed thrilled to be reunited for the occasion, and there was a smilar sense of deep, longtime friendship among them. And if there is one place where the energy was at an all time high, it was certainly the dance floor! The awesome 90s hits they played had everyone – including us – in a blissfully nostalgic mood that spread across the packed dancefloor.

Continuing on the theme of energy, we stuck Vanessa and Rob out to the beach during dinnertime, just as a storm was rolling in. The wind was intense, but the sunset peeking out from behind those storm clouds was just stunning. Willing and trusting, these troopers trekked along on the rocks for us. The whole ordeal lasted all but a few minutes, and we returned with out-of-control windswept hair and sandboxes in our shoes… but we were giddy. It kind of felt like now the four of us were in on a secret, having experienced this mini adventure together.
