Edison Chen -- pin-up idol with suave good looks, hot bod, cheeky
smirk, American accent and bad boy aura all around.

Girls, ladies, even tai-tais (if reports of him having photos of several wives of HK's richest tycoons are true) the world over fawn over him and are enamoured with him.

I confess .... I used to be one of his admirers many years ago. Oh c'mon, he's really cute you gotta admit. My friend even gave me a Edison toy, complete with his baggy hiphop gear and diamond ear stud, as a Christmas present one time. Can I emphasize again that this was a
long, long time ago when I was a teen and I have long since grown out of that silly phase :)

Anyway, Eddie basically can practically get any girl he wants, and he knows it. A young, hot-blooded man like him, much to the envy of guys everywhere, thus has lots and lots of sex, with tons and tons of different women, simply because he can and he likes to. Does anyone
dare argue that he's abnormal or the only man around like that? Why make him out to be such a jerk?

I think he's really lucky that all the women he bed do it because they like him, not because he's some filthy rich old man who buys expensive gifts and gets them movie roles or record deals (*cough* Albert... *cough* Jackie...).

So Eddie has an exhibitionistic streak and likes to film his bedroom antics and keep sexy photos of his many conquests. That's fine to me, he's not the first really. Many people have such a fetish yes? BUT, at least have the brains and common sense to keep these scandalous materials safely on a separate hard drive, locked away with keys and
codes preferably!!!! Not only did he not, he even stupidly brought his laptop to the repair shop. Great, nice job Eddie. Leaves me to sadly wonder if grey matter exists in that handsome head of his.

Lesson to all of us in this Youtube-loving, Facebook-hugging, and Google-living digital generation of today: be extremely careful with your incriminating/private files. Paris, Tammy, Edison.... 'nuff warnings out there.

Those women in the photos have themselves to blame as well, I don't see why Eddie should take the brunt of the fall. They were willing
participants. Very willing in fact, judging from the enthusiastic poses and, um, pleasing him. The famous ones probably figured "Oh he's a
big celeb as well, he would never let these pictures leak out, so what's the harm?"

Nonetheless, as big stars with a lot to lose and money-spinning careers at stake, they should have erred on the side of caution.

This also brings up the question of hypocrisy and celebrities fulfilling their "duties" as role models for the young. Major case in point: Gillian Chung.

Gillian's PR reps conveniently made her out to be a victim of love, blaming it all on Edison. *rolls on the floor with laughter* I'm not falling for that contrived statement, and I think most discerning public would agree.

She and Charlene Choi of wholesome, goody Twins fame, are supposedly (this I heard through numerous sources in entertainment circles) not so squeaky clean after all. Hmm...threesomes with old men anyone?
There's also some dialogue between Eddie and Gillian in the yet-released video that would be very damning for some big names in HK, but you can go do research on that yourself :)

These stars are after all human, and like most people out there, would have a sex life too. Can they not be wild in bed in private, but keep a proper clean public image? Often, a celebrity image in Asia is a product that is sold and is what makes money, but it doesn't mean this
image represents who the person really is. The unfortunate thing here is that evidence of their "other life" was leaked.

Frankly, I was not all that shocked nor surprised when the controversy first exploded actually. I already had an inkling of the sort of past-time Eddie indulged in.

Umm... rightttt. Hmm I read back on these logged MSN conversations in amusement. And so when the pictures first leaked, I seriously thanked God I was not foolish, naive, or feeling frisky beyond control, otherwise my photos may have just ended up being amongst the hot 1300 out there. I mean with Edison, it could be hard to resist.

And here comes the ironic part...

Unfortunately for poor Eddie, never say "never"... he really should have been more careful with his laptop.

(Lesson I want to tell girls here: no matter how tempting or irresistable a guy is, or no matter how insistent he is that the film/photos won't leak out, always always think twice alright. In this incident, Tammy, Paris Hilton... its usually us females who bear the shame and ridicule. Bobo Chan sadly can't even get married now.)

I believe that this whole saga was some sort of wake-up call for him to come to his senses. Life has mysterious ways of dealing with us, maybe he needed something like that to help him learn an important life lesson. What that is only he can figure out and come to terms with on his own. Perhaps not just him, but all the other female stars involved had to learn some lessons the hard way as well (one being they better start waxing!) From what I know Edison's basically a nice and good guy, albeit with a weakness... and I sincerely hope this experience sets him on a better track. Don't we all have faults? Was what he did really that monstrous or evil? No, I don't think so. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

Eddie's leaving the HK entertainment industry indefinitely, but with this sort of worldwide fame and CNN coverage, it might be his ticket to
bigger things in the more sexually-open West and Hollywood, where he has already started projects.

One person I feel sorry for in this mess? Nicholas Tse. To find that your wife cheated on you with your good buddy must be devastating
to say the least.

**ADDENDUM** To people giving me flak for "wanting attention":
please look at this logically. if I really wanted the attention, wouldn't I have talked about this long ago? On my own blog as well? Why on earth wait till now???

It just so happens that this week's Star Blog topic is about Edison. Did I choose the topic? NO. As their writer, I'm just doing my job sharing my thoughts and experiences on the controversy.

I brought up the personal anecdote of my encounter with Edison not to attract attention, but to drive home a point that no matter how charming or famous a guy is, a girl should not allow herself to be caught in compromising situations, as she has more to lose. I don't want to say anything more about my personal encounter with Edison as that was not the point of my STOMP article. I brought this up because when the scandal broke, a chill went down my spine as I could have been one of the unintended victims too. I just wanted to share this with the STOMP readers to drive home my message to girls out there to be careful and sensible, not to create a scandal or unwanted news around myself. People who read the whole article on STOMP will see that the anecdote was only a small part of it, not the crux; I find it upsetting that the mainstream media is taking the anecdote out of context and blowing it up, completely missing the point and message of my original article.

Unfortunately I have no control over what STOMP decides to make headlines or not; I even tried my best to persuade SPH not to run this in the papers. Riding on the wave of the scandal is NOT ME, its the media and papers who make these headlines to sell more and make money.
