Upcoming Release: Sleek theme for WPF and Silverlight

The UX Team at Nukeation has created yet another breakthrough theme: Sleek! In the tradition of our previous themes such as Discovery and Odyssey we are again pushing the limits of themeing with this slick and sleek new theme.

With our new Silverlight 2.0 compatible DropShadow system, previously unavailable effects like the drop shadows seen in the screenshot will be available in Silverlight just like in WPF.

Reuxables Subscribers will get access to the WPF theme after 12pm PST on Friday 22, May 2009. Both WPF and Silverlight themes will be publicly available near the end of May.

We are proud to announce the release of our first batch of themes for Silverlight 2.0!

Over the course of the next few weeks, the rest of the Reuxables catalog will be extended to support Silverlight 2.0 as well! The next wave will include Glass, Expressive, Odyssey, and Ballistic with an expected release around May 8, 2009.

All Silverlight 2.0 themes have almost exactly the same features as their WPF versions, except for the technology specific differences. These themes also support the Silverlight Toolkit on CodePlex. See the FAQ section for details.

You can purchase the Silverlight themes from the Reuxables Catalog. Existing Subscribers can login into the Subscription Downloads area to download the themes immediately.

WPF Toolkit support for Reuxables

We are happy to announce that all Reuxables WPF themes now support the Microsoft WPF Toolkit on CodePlex! As the Toolkit evolves, we will be extending our themes to be fully compatible with the new controls. Currently, only the stable controls are supported, such as the DataGrid, Calendar and DatePicker controls.

NOTE: The Toolkit theme extensions are unsupported as the Toolkit itself is not up to release specifications.

To get the Toolkit Theme Extensions:

Login into the subscription area and download the theme.
Use the download link in your original purchase receipt.
All new purchases have the Extensions inside the theme itself.

Plans for 2009, Silverlight 2.0 and 3.0, and Machine for Expression

The Nukeation Team has been working on our plans for the immediate future and beyond, and we wanted to share them with you. As April comes to an end, we are getting ready to launch some exciting new products and starting work on the next generation.

In March, we launched Machine 1.0 for Visual Studio 2008, as well as the Reuxables Second Generation.

Reuxables + Silverlight + WPF Toolkit Support

Near the end of this month, we will release WPF Toolkit support for all our WPF themes (yes, you will all get to style your DataGrid now!), along with Silverlight 2.0 versions of our core themes (Candy, Fusion, Frog, Glass, Metal, Paper). All themes will cover the SL 2.0 Toolkit, and we will provide updates with each revision of the Toolkit as they become available.

In May, we will release Silverlight versions of the remainder of our themes, and betas of the themes Slick, Nostalgia, and Paper II will be made available to the Subscribers.

All our Silverlight versions will be available at the same prices as the WPF versions. Combined purchases will also be available at massive discounts. Existing same-theme customers can pay the difference to purchase a SL version of the theme (and vice-versa).

Subscribers will get the SL versions at no additional cost.

MultiTouch + Reuxables

In Q3 2009, we will publish our unique Multi-Touch and NUX oriented Reuxables aimed at the Windows 7 generation and multi-touch environments. These Reuxables will not be mere themes but complete UX Kits with custom controls, augmented standard controls, and unique User Experiences that can be operated with tactile hand movement.

Machine 1.5 and 2.0

In Q2 2009, Machine will be moved up to Version 1.5 featuring new powerful features:

Organize UI Bits into categories
UI Bits are now organized into Common, Input, Business, Miscellaneous, Imported and Personal categories. Categories can be redefined and reorganized, and additional categories added.

Favorite UI Bits management
Mark favorite UI Bits across all categories and be able to quickly select from an exclusive Favorites list.

Expandable Family Structure
UI Bits with additional or extended variations are now grouped into families and visible only when explicitly selected. For example, the UI Bits Border1Thickness , Border2Thickness, Border3Thickness, and so on would be grouped into a single Border1Thickness UI Bit. If click the Expand icon next to the UI Bit list entry, you get a pop-out with the additional variations of the same family.

Faster search
The search system was rebuilt from the ground up for faster performance on both x86 and x64 platforms.

Full X/D/HTML Support
The ASP.net portion now fully supports HTML in Visual Studio.

Network Sharing for team based development
With a special module for the Ultimate Edition, teams working on a network environment can share UI Bits across the entire team using a central Machine Repository. When a network repository is not available, the library reverts to the local offline cache, allowing individuals to work while disconnected.

Individual UI Bits Import/Export
Single UI Bits can be exported as self-contained .uib files, and shared with other nukeationMachine users.

In Q3/Q4 2009, the third generation Machine (2.0) will be released for Visual Studio 2010, Expression Blend 2.0 and 3.0*, and Expression Web 2.0 and higher*. The Expression editions of Machine will feature unprecedented designer tools for making a UI more quickly and efficiently. We intend to release a working public beta in the next couple of months!

* Machine release dates and features for currently unreleased versions of Expression products is only estimated.

Reuxables for Silverlight and WPF Toolkit Support

Sometimes you just can’t let go of a good thing. A little while ago we made an announcement that we will not be pursuing the release of Silverlight themes as we wanted to focus on just WPF. After that we got so many requests (and some threats) to reconsider that decision, that we decided to expand our staff and our plans, and now we have decided that we will be offering Silverlight versions of our WPF themes.

This last weekend of April, we will be releasing Silverlight versions of Paper, Candy, Glass, and Edge! More themes will soon follow.

At the same time, we will be releasing new updates of our existing WPF Themes with WPF Toolkit support, starting with DataGrid, Calendar, and DatePicker themeing. We will continue to expand on this as the WPF Toolkit itself progresses.

And if you are still looking for some really cool free themes, check out the WPF Toolkit themes at CodePlex – they were designed by the Reuxables team – so you can expect the same kind of code structure, robustness, and visual coolness that you find in Reuxables.

Sneak Preview – Reuxables Ballistic, Slick, and Nostalgia

We have been working on a new theme for Q2 2009 phase called Ballistic. Along with Paper II (yes, our most popular theme is getting a fully revamped look!), Nostalgic, and Slick, Ballistic will be part of our “Phase 3” offerings.

Ballistic has a distinct Web 2.0 visual style and very soothing color palette. The theme comes in 4 different color schemes, all designed by User Experience experts to provide comfort to the end-user’s eyes even if they work long hours in the software.

Ballistic will be available this weekend for all our Reuxables Subscribers, and to the general public a week after that. Over the next few weeks, we will be publishing live previews of Codename: Slick, Codename: Nostalgia, and of course Paper II.

New release: nukeationMachine

nukeationMachine for Visual Studio 2008 is now available to the public. Put simply, nukeationMachine provides UI Snippets functionality to Visual Studio 2008. You can use it for WPF, Windows Forms, and ASP.NET. Try it out – you will never want to go back to the toolbox again. :)

Free theme: INCY

The "Incy" theme is the same as the Inc theme except for the following differences:

Instead of full XAML source, you get a compiled DLL
A little bit of manual code is required
Certain controls, like the Toolbar are not themed
Customization is not possible, since no source is included
Only the "Original" variation is available, instead of the 2 included in Inc

We are getting ready to release two new themes aimed at general purpose applications that need to utilize very little resources, yet still have a little animated fun in them. Edge in particular has a very liquid animation feel to it, that utilizes very little GPU power and is suitable for laptops or other battery powered devices.

A hands-on demo will be released shortly.

EDGE will be priced at $69, and INC at $49.

Subscribers will get early access to these themes by the end of this week, with the public release near 8th March.

Odyssey UX Kit (formerly “Alpha Dog”) is now available!

Odyssey is Nukeation’s most detailed and sophisticated theme yet. Our design team went to great lengths to create this theme where both subtle hyper-animations and superior performance can co-exist! We also have new UAC-style (but cooler) interrupt prompts, a custom MessageBox and Window system, and of course color variations as usual. The UX Kit is available in both C# and Visual Basic (.NET 3.5 SP1), and as with our themes, includes full source code that you can customize to your needs.

As you may have noticed (and as so many of you have emailed us about) we have not released “Alpha Dog” as previously stated on Feb 16.

We ran into some performance issues since Alpha Dog is a very animated theme. Right now are rebuilding one or two essential parts of the theme to allow for the theme to be used on older, low-end PCs without any issues. We believe in giving you only top quality themes, so please bear with us a few more days as we wrap up the UX Kit for release.

A point release of the previous Super Pack themes is also coming up next week, with some new fixes. Stay tuned for a list of updates for the release.

A little more about the UX Kits

It seems the announcement of the upcoming UX Kits made quite a stir! We got a ton of emails in the last 24 hours. Thank you for your interest. The preview on the site is very sketchy, so here are some hard facts:

UX Kits are an evolution of our Reuxables Themes. While the themes were nothing more than a “style sheet”, the UX Kits resemble a Starter Kit. Apart from the WPF theme unique to each kit, the kit has additional templates that help you create a rich interface for your application, as well as adding some powerful user experience features.

Custom Windows

A good example of these features would be our WindowKit. It is a standard WPF Window written in XAML, but instead of the OS-provided window frame, it uses a custom window frame quite similar in structure to our free WPF Windows resource in the sense that everything is custom designed to match the theme, as well as provide useful functionality such as open surface dragging (any non-functional surface of the window can be used to drag the entire window).

Interrupt Prompts

While the UAC prompts in Windows Vista can be a pain, in some situations they can be useful. We’ve crossed the UAC-style interrupt prompts with the good old MessageBox, providing you with a custom dialog which appears “inside” the Window like a popup, but still is modal. Plus it is styled so that when the interrupt dialog comes up, the rest of the window goes out-of-focus, not just functionally but visually too as you can see in the preview. This can be disabled for low-end PCs, of course. A single application level boolean let’s you disable such over-the-top features, so you can even provide the end-user the option to decide for themselves whether they want performance or beauty.

The Interrupt Prompt is just ONE of many such unique features the Kits will have.

Visual Basic and C#

The UX Kits will ship in both VB and C#, with full source code. You will be able to customize any imaginable portion of the kit.

The Theme

All UX Kit themes will be available as individual themes for those who don’t want the Kit, but just the theme.

Cross-Kit Compatibility

All UX Kits will follow a singular themeing convention, so you will be able to dynamically change between Kits/themes in your application and still take advantage of the new unique features. The ResourceDictionaries will take care of the styling for you.

Convenience Packs

Soon after the release of the first UX Kits, we also intend to ship a convenience pack of UX Kits for our current phase themes. Super Pack users will get a free upgrade to these Kits as part of their Subscription upgrade, and individual theme users will get them at a very steep discount.

Pricing + Subscription

The UX Kits will be available as individually purchasable products as well as part of the new Subscription system.

The price for each new UX Kit will differ based on the product quality and complexity, but you can expect the range to be $139 to $299. Final prices will be announced soon.

Super Pack Free Upgrade

As part our free upgrade to the Subscription level for Super Pack customers, the new UX Kits will be given free of cost to all existing Super Pack customers. More information for this can be found here.

Nukeation in 2009

Hello everyone,

Apologies for the long silence over the past few months. We have been busy working with Microsoft on Silverlight themes.

We have also been working on making some much needed changes to the Reuxables product line, as well as finishing Machine. Yes, Machine is finally ready to be released. We are finishing documentation and some minor things and expect to have it out in a very short time.

If you see the Reuxables website you will notice that we have retracted the Silverlight themes. We have made two key decisions for Reuxables to make sure we give you our best:

We will be focusing solely on WPF products under the Reuxables brand name for the immediate future.
The reason for this is that we don't want to provide sub-par products. In our haste to provide Silverlight themes we realized that the product we were going to release in our first SL Theme Pack were not up to our usual standards of high quality. That was the reason behind pulling them back.

This does not mean we will not be working on Silverlight products, but that we won't release anything in SL 2.0 until we are sure we have a product you can be completely happy with. In the meantime, please check out the Silverlight Toolkit from Microsoft - the themes in that kit were created by the Reuxables team. ;)
