This year's TEDxDayton speakers includes a number of faces from the local business community. The popular local iteration of TED talks will return to the Victoria Theatre in downtown Dayton on Oct. 14. Centerville business advisory board looks to grow

A business that helps companies advise one another is looking to grow. The Alternative Board, part of a larger national chain of businesses, orchestrates meetings and advisory panels comprised of small businesses across all industries looking to grow or manage a transition. The Dayton Beer Co. is expanding its downtown Dayton presence, adding pizza sales and a merchandise shop. Working with Brixx — a downtown restaurant and bar — 2nd Street Pizza will open in the downtown brewery today, said Danielle Hilgeman, with Dayton Beer Co. Ohio adds millions to rainy day fund, which tops $2 billion

Lower-than-expected state spending has allowed Ohio to stash an extra $29.5 million in its rainy day fund. Office of Budget and Management Director Tim Keen said a stronger-than-expected balance at the end of the state's fiscal year made the addition to the budget stabilization fund possible. The city of Dayton is run better than many large cities. That’s the verdict from Wallet Hub and its 2016’s Best-Run Cities in America. WalletHub compared 150 of the largest cities on six indicators: financial stability, education, health, safety, economy as well as infrastructure and pollution. Report: Ohio construction industry booms

As part of a strengthening economy in the Buckeye State, Ohio is seeing a rise in construction jobs. The state had 209,300 construction jobs in June, compared to 199,400 in June of 2015, according to the Associated General Contractors of America. Ohio’s addition of 9,900 such jobs is among the highest in the country. When it comes to educated residents, the Dayton region fares well against the other large metro areas. A new WalletHub survey ranked Dayton in the top 100 most educated cities. American Airlines' pilots union says pilot pushing must stop, raises other safety concerns

Calls to "speed up" operations from American Airlines (Nasdaq: AAL) caused a pointed response from the Allied Pilots Association — the union which represents American Airlines' 15,000 pilots — telling pilots not to compromise safety to comply with corporate pushing.
