The Rebel Set recently completed recording of the follow-up CD to "Ghost Town Silence" called "Across The Relentless Sea" at Babblefish Recording Studios in Franklin, Ohio.

A CD release party for the album will be held @ The Oregon Express in Dayton, Ohio on November 14, 2009.

The new album is a cohesive unification of this hard working bar band and really shows not only their diversity of influences but their diversity of musical talents.  “Across the Relentless Sea” is at times as somber and poetic as you will ever hear The Rebel Set and at other times a light romp through a keg party.  The journey for The Rebel Set has been a long year of refining and reinventing their signature sound.  “Across The Relentless Sea” is the evolution of the band’s many talents and a journey against the odds.

Here are our new additions to our new DaytonMostMetro.com Music Blog:

Welcome Duante Beddingfield (some of you may know him as a newcomer to this forum - jazzfan360)!  He helps Pacchia promote and book their jazz shows, writes for the City Paper and is very much in tune with the local music scene.  He recently posted something here on the forum about the new Pacchia Groove concept, which I reposted on the blog.  In fact, I met with him yesterday and he has agreed to contribute to DMM - look for many more updates from him in the near future.

And also welcome The Buddha Den, the quintessential local music blog in Dayton!  I met with him last night at South Park Tavern (where he is promoting a big show this coming Sunday), and he has agreed to share his insights, knowledge and stories about the local music scene on DMM.  We'll be syndicating his blog here and hopefully exposing a different audience to his pieces already very popular with those who are already in the scene.  And btw - The Buddha Den has lived in this region all of his life and has followed the music scene here since the 80's, and he is more excited about local music now than he has been in a while.  Look for his posts on the DMM Music Blog where they'll appear shortly after they are posted on his site.

And finally, we have one more very special music contributor who has contacted me and said she wants to join us, but you'll have to stay tuned and find out who it is... and that, my friends, is a DMM Cliffhanger    But I can say that this person already has a popular radio show and is another who is deeply involved in the local scene.  I hope to officially welcome her before next week.

BJSR is (according to their MySpace page) "a group of musicians and producers all surrounding Benjamin Rivet. The music created comes in many forms, is seen on many platforms, and enjoyed by people from all around the world."

Kenny Mosher, one of the members of the group, has a production group called Showdown Productions, LLC..  Check out their video portfolio - very cool.

Yes people, there are great things being created in Dayton, Ohio.

It's a great article and I hope people will also support their coffee shop more on 5th Street.  But what I thought was really cool is she's started her own recording label and is looking for local talent to promote.  In it she talks about approaching many of the local bands that play in Jazzy Java at night about it and they think she's kidding.  "I'm amazed by all the musical talent I've heard here," said Williams, with more enthusiasm than one would expect from a woman who's had several Billboard Top Five albums in her genre.  "All these great jazz players...Dayton's always been a real hotbed for music, and people are just figuring that out again.  Hopefully the Jazzy Java can be a part of that tradition."

The Festival is July 4th weekend and includes Dayton's fireworks on July 3rd.

The Festival is free thanks to individual donations and corporate contributions. It also relies on hundreds of volunteers. If you have a couple hours to spare please visit www.cityfolk.org to sign up for a shift. There's a need to beverage pourers, ticket sellers, greeters, and all kinds of other needs.

Many people think it's a city department that throws a festival but Cityfolk is a non-profit traditional folk arts organization bringing international/folk music to Dayton year-round. Abigail Nessen Bengson & Shaun McClain Bengson are a Brooklyn/Ohio/Vermont based husband & wife music/theater duo who perform original musicals and folk/rock shows, teach, and work with communities across the country...and are preparing for an activist trip to Johannesburg & Capetown, South Africa
 
Shaun & Abigail perform in a variety of mediums. They are Off-Broadway performers whose original musicals (The Magic Show: The Story of the Barefoot Angels & Ain't That Good News) demonstrate the possibility and urgent need for social change and have appeared in theaters across the country. They are rock musicians who perform electronic-infused music in rock venues in NYC, the North East and the Midwest. They are folk musicians, who perform in festivals and community venues across the country. And they are activists and teachers, who have taught students in NYC's public schools, worked with gang youth in El Salvador, and worked with immigrants in Massachusetts.

Historic South Park, Inc. & The Jazz Advocate are excited to announce the 2nd annual Historic South Park Jazz Festival.  The FREE event will take place in the Historic South Park neighborhood on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th from NOON until 9pm.
Our second edition festival is a celebration of LOCAL musicians, featuring five Dayton-area ensembles and one regional group from Columbus.  The line-up includes Scott Oglesbee and Jerry Steinke; ;Mary Knapke & the Ron Meyer Trio; The University of Dayton Jazz Ensemble; Chris Bowman & Friends: Rick Evans and the Masters of Jazz:; and topping off the evening with the Linda Dachtyl Trio and Gene Walker.
 
The organizers are planning the event to have a 'block-party' atmosphere, as it will take place in the gazebo on Park Drive, in Dayton's Historic South Park Neighborhood, on the west side of Wayne Avenue, one block North of Wyoming Street.  The festival will be surrounded by the renovated historic homes overlooking the boulevard. This year's festival will also include an Arts Show on the boulevard from noon until 7 pm featuring the local painters, photographers and other visual artists.
 
Free parking and a free shuttle service is available at Hope Lutheran Church and Emerson Academy on Hickory Street.  In case of rain, the event WILL NOT BE CANCELED, but rather will be moved to the Emerson Academy Auditorium, 501 Hickory Street.  Maps & information are available online at www.jazzadvocate.com or www.historicsouthpark.org, or you may call (937) 648-0627 with questions.
