I’m offering a fun series of Rustic frames that I’d like to introduce! There are three styles: Rustic Barnwood (above), Rustic Black or Rustic White. This Rustic series looks great for one image or several in a grouping, making a series of images very easy to hang! The Barnwood is wood that’s been aged, distressed and weathered like a real barn, while the Rustic Black and White styles use a smoother wood that’s been painted and lightly distressed. Rusted metal tabs are used to connect the series to maintain a genuine rustic look.

Detail Wall Cluster

If you’re trying to create some art for your wall and can’t narrow down your choices, try a cluster! Expressions or details you love can work together to create a large cluster of nine 10×10 or 12×12 images or a smaller cluster of just three or four images. Then be sure to enhance the setting with a striking wall color or accessory that plays off a common theme or color in the images!

Therapy Walk

Sometimes it helps to just get out and walk around with your best friend. Whether it’s stall rest or an electronic device that keeps you from enjoying yourself outside, it always helps to go for a walk around the block. Take a friend and do yourselves both some good!

Canvas or framed?

Let’s say you’ve just chosen your favorite image of your little darling but you can’t decide whether to create a canvas wrap with it or frame it. Here’s an example of each:

I love dimension and depth. The canvas wrap provides a compelling 3-D feel, while metallic paper as the print surface offers a much more subtle, elegant depth to images. The trick though, on benefiting from the full effect of the metallic paper, is to put non-glare glass over it. I think canvas wraps work especially well on large walls and/or walls dedicated just to them, whether they’re all by themselves or in a series creating a photo montage. Framed prints play well together best if you can keep at least one element in common—whether it’s a color, material, texture or style (modern, vintage, rustic, etc).

When we’re walking around shooting candid shots, rather than setting up poses at ideal locations, we might end up with something in the background that’s not doing the image any favors, or we might need a little more image area where none exists for matting and framing purposes. Depending on the shot, I can often retouch it. Here’s a perfect example of a shot that needed several areas retouched: lead line, window and more horse and background at bottom:
