Stolen Guitars recovered

In April we posted on the theft of 3 guitars from the music studio of Beowulf Kingsley.

Great to read this morning that he got them back!

“The Detroit police made a photo CD of the goods and a lot of them wound up being from this area, where there have been quite a few break-ins this last year. They sent on the photos and descriptions to the other police departments in SE Michigan. I’d given a very detailed description of my lost instruments, which they’d had on file. Deputy Ken Smith emailed me some pictures, and there were my guitars!”

Always, always keep records of your guitars. dbTwang Guardian is an easy way to do that.

It was great to be able to launch Guardian yesterday.

We truly believe that it will make a substantial difference to the recovery of stolen guitars. It tackles the low rate of recovery (estimated at under 3%) in a number of ways:

1. By allowing a subscriber to easily record details of their guitars in a structured and secure way. Up to 80 fields of information on each guitar and up to 25 high resolution photos
At present we estimate that only 4% of guitars which are listed as stolen have both a serial number and good photography – making it really difficult to find them.
2. By offering a One Click alert service if a subscriber is unfortunate enough to loose a guitar – this makes the details available on a multiplicity of sites across the internet:

www.facebook.com/stolenguitaralerts

www.twitter.com/stolenguitars

blog.dbtwang.com

weekly email alert

and on the relevant forums for that make/model

Having launched the service we will now be working to constantly improve it – and cooperating with others in this space globally to constantly make life more difficult for guitar thieves.

In the midst of angst around getting the last of our merchant account/payment processing set up we were given the chance to help out with the promotion of a movie.

Not just any movie – but the new one from the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Both much enjoyed in dbTwang HQ. Scott Pilgrim V The World has a guitar connection

as does the competition with the chance to attend an indie-rock festival: To celebrate the release of SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, Universal are offering an epic holiday to Toronto, Canada, where the movie was shot on location. One winner and friend will be attending Toronto’s hottest Indie-Rock music festival (June 13-19, 2011) and visiting the locations of Scott Pilgrim.

Good luck – and now back to work. Here is the movie poster btw.

Thanks to Monica Myhre who left details on a comment of the gear stolen from herself and the Dave Weld band in Chicago last weekend.

This is her comment in full:

The bands gear was stolen last weekend in Chicago. Dave Weld lost his Blackknife Modulus Guitar that he’s had for more thatn 30 years, it’s been around the world with him. Brand new in the box Line 6 wireless unit for my guitar and a Sure wireless unit. Also a Valley Arts custom guitar, from the late Art Martinez which has a lot of sentimental value to me (His name is engraved on the back of the neck on a gold plate, cymbals, mics, mic cords, power cables and the list goes on….If anyone sees anything on the street, pawn shop or in the clubs please call the police or contact me at this site or email: dv_ weld@ yahoo.com. It’s time to fight against those who prey upon musicians. Things are really tuff on blues musicians, especially if this is all you do for a living. The guys and I don’t have a day job to fall back on, this is all we do….Below are pictures of both guitars. Please keep a look out for them..
