Thursday, February 2 is our next planning meeting for the OutWriteDC LGBT Book Festival @TheDCCenter

On Thursday, February 2nd from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, we will be holding our monthly planning meeting for the 2017 7th Annual OutWrite LGBT Book Festival at The DC Center (The DC Center 2000 14th St NW Suite 105, Washington DC). The GenOUT Youth Chorus, now in its third season, is welcoming new singers at our January rehearsals, starting this Sunday, January 8, 2:00-3:30 PM. The GenOUT Chorus is open to all students (LGBTQ and allies) from ages 13 through 18. Our 2-fold mission is to give young LGBTQA people a voice and to connect those voices to community.

If students are not able to attend on January 8, they may also join on our second rehearsal, which is Sunday, January 22, 2:00-3:30 PM.

Since its founding in January 2015, the GenOUT Chorus has grown from 9 singers to over 20 (from 15 schools around the DC area), and we have performed at the Lincoln Theatre, the Kennedy Center, the White House, and at the 2016 GALA Choruses Festival in Denver.

There is a nominal registration fee ($90) to participate, but no one is turned away for an inability to pay (scholarships are available).

Rehearsals are typically held at the renovated Wonder Bread Factory, at 641 S St., NW (near the corner of 7th & S Sts., NW; just steps away from the Shaw Metro stop).

Please help spread the word about this opportunity to the young people in your GSA and school. We welcome anyone who loves to sing and who would be a great fit for our GenOUT community. Feel free to pass on my e-mail address to your students and parents.

The spring rehearsal and performance calendar can be accessed here:

Rainbow History Project Seeks Treasurer

The Rainbow History Project, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3)organization, is the archive for metropolitan Washington, DC&apos;s LGBTQ community (www.rainbowhistory.org). Our mission is to collect, preserve, and promote an active knowledge of the history, arts, and culture relevant to sexually diverse communities in metropolitan Washington, DC. We sponsor public panels, provide walking tours, collect oral histories, and preserve historic radio programs and photographs. Our very large collection of historic documents is housed with our archiving partner, the Historical Society of Washington, DC.

The Rainbow History Project seeks a treasurer to maintain our financial accounts. We are a small organization, with an annual budget of less than $20,000 and typically fewer than ten transactions per month, and thus able to maintain our finances using a simple QuickBooks program. We receive support from individuals in the community and from several small grants.

The treasurer must provide basic monthly reports and an annual accounting to the Board of Directors, file the annual post-card federal tax submission, and maintain simple records about individual donations and grants. In most months, these reporting requirements demand just one evening of work.

The treasurer is a member of the board of directors and is expected to attend the monthly board meetings and participate in board governance issues.

Anyone interested in the position should contact Rainbow History Project board chairman Chuck Goldfarb at chuck@rainbowhistory.org.

<summary> Have you been meaning to get involved in the LGBT community and haven&apos;t really known how to start? Join the DC Center in volunteering at Food &amp; Friends.
For most, Thanksgiving is a time to gather with loved ones, feast on delicious food and recognize all for which we have to be thankful. However, for thousands in the DC area, Thanksgiving takes on a special meaning.
For the clients, Thanksgiving is about living to celebrate another holiday and about taking a break from their daily challenges. This is why we try and make sure it&apos;s a holiday worth celebrating.

On Thanksgiving Day, thousands of volunteers will package and deliver 3,500 full holiday dinners.

This year, our kitchen team will prepare 7,860 pounds of roasted turkey, 975 pounds of cornbread stuffing, 1,050 pounds of roasted potatoes and 780 pounds of green beans. Plus, each client will receive an Apple and Pumpkin pie!

You can help make this day possible by VOLUNTEERING!!!!!

Date/Time: Thanksgiving day ( November 24,2016 ), shift start at 4:55am - 6:44am.

Food and friends is located at:219 Riggs Road, NE. If you need a ride from the Fort Totten Metro, call the Food and Friends shuttle at: (202) 669-6437.
