The next meeting of the DC Anti-Violence Project (formerly known as GLOV) will be at 7 pm on Thursday, January 26th at The DC Center (2000 14th Street NW, Suite 105). These are open meetings, and we would love to see anyone who is interested in learning more and getting involved in lessening violence both within and directed towards the LGBT communities.

The primary mission of the DC Anti-Violence Project is to reduce violence against LGBT individuals (and those perceived as LGBT) through community outreach, education, and monitoring cases to ensure that the rights and dignity of LGBT victims are respected and protected. The DC Anti-Violence Project also seeks to assist victims of anti-LGBT violence by advocating on their behalf, encouraging reporting, and providing a community of support.

July 28-30, 2017 | Washington, D.C.

No Fear ~ No Shame ~ No Hiding -
Just Celebrating Our Truth

ABOUT THIS CONFERENCE

Let&apos;s Mobilize Events&apos; 2016 Masculine of Center (MOC) Conference is the unboxing of the MOC narrative. The weekend will consist of all facets of the other side of the identity narrative.

What is Masculine of Center
Masculine of center (MOC) is a term, coined by B. Cole of the Brown Boi Project. The term recognizes the breadth and depth of identity for lesbian/queer who tilt toward the masculine side of the scale. It includes a wide range of identities such as butch, stud, aggressive/AG, dom, macha, tomboi, trans-masculine, androgynous, etc.

Conference Goals
Butch, Stud, Boi, Trans-Masculine, Androgynous, etc - we are all a community. And it&apos;s time to celebrate all of the intersections and discuss what is important!

Empower and affirm our differences while embracing our common goals
Discuss the concerns and issues, while prioritizing what matters in the community
Learning how to embrace all intersection in which we live and thrive and connect with the family that defines the community
Learn how to stand firm against prejudice while walking in truth in the full light of day in all capacities of life.

Conference Theme:
Let&apos;s Mobilize - Know Your Truth

Today&apos;s political environment is in a state of flux, where members of the LGBTQ+ Community may have to battle not only previously won battles but battles that could potentially rock the very foundation of the LGBTQ+ Movement. Knowing Your Truth has now taken on a deeper meaning. Our truth is the very perception in which our lives are navigated and circumvented in the environment around us.

How far are we from a world of complete acceptance and tolerance? Are we equipped to mobilize to further our agendas? What are the barriers to the empowerment of our community? How accessible are the resources and can they assist in taking the community to the next level?

These questions will be explored through a mix of speakers, panel discussions, and workshops

The GenOUT Youth Chorus, now in its third season, is welcoming new singers at our January rehearsals, starting this Sunday, January 8, 2:00-3:30 PM. The GenOUT Chorus is open to all students (LGBTQ and allies) from ages 13 through 18. Our 2-fold mission is to give young LGBTQA people a voice and to connect those voices to community.

If students are not able to attend on January 8, they may also join on our second rehearsal, which is Sunday, January 22, 2:00-3:30 PM.

Since its founding in January 2015, the GenOUT Chorus has grown from 9 singers to over 20 (from 15 schools around the DC area), and we have performed at the Lincoln Theatre, the Kennedy Center, the White House, and at the 2016 GALA Choruses Festival in Denver.

There is a nominal registration fee ($90) to participate, but no one is turned away for an inability to pay (scholarships are available).

Rehearsals are typically held at the renovated Wonder Bread Factory, at 641 S St., NW (near the corner of 7th & S Sts., NW; just steps away from the Shaw Metro stop).

Please help spread the word about this opportunity to the young people in your GSA and school. We welcome anyone who loves to sing and who would be a great fit for our GenOUT community. Feel free to pass on my e-mail address to your students and parents.

The spring rehearsal and performance calendar can be accessed here:

<summary>Support incarcerated LGBTQI folx behind bars this holiday season by taking some time to write them holiday cards. This is the 4th annual Black &amp; Pink international holiday card writing movement!

Members of Center Latinxs, Collective Action for Safe Spaces (CASS), Black Youth Project 100 (BYP100) and other community members are gathering to write holiday cards for LGBTQI people behind bars, Wednesday, December 7th at 7:30pm at The DC Center (2000 14th St NW, Suite 105, Washington, DC 20009).

From Black &amp; Pink: &quot;As you can imagine, the holiday season is often a really rough time for folks inside prison. Whatever holidays you may or may not celebrate this time of year, our incarcerated members are often denied the ability to celebrate their traditions in the ways they choose, whether their desire be to celebrate the returning of light for Solstice, the miracle of Hanukkah, the birth story of Jesus, the Black radical tradition of Kwanzaa, New Year&apos;s Day, or something else. All too often our members do not have family and friends to reach out to them with cards or visits, making this time particularly isolating. The cards you will make bring moments of joy, connection and kindness to our members while telling prison staff that people on the outside are watching. Learn more about Black and Pink here&quot;

* ~ We are excited to be joined by DJ Mothershiester of Anthology of Booty ! ! rad liberatory beats for a rad event ~ *

DONATIONS: Please bring $5 to help with postage! We are hosting this independently and do not have any centralized funding. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

*Please note The DC LGBT Center is located on the 1st floor of the Reeves building on 14th and U street. You will be asked to show identification upon entering the building*

<summary>Reel Affirmations XTRA is proud to present Women Who Kill, Friday, November 18th 2016!

Synopsis:
Morgan (Jungermann) and Jean (Ann Carr) work well together as hosts of their semi-famous true crime podcast because they didn&apos;t work, at all, as a couple. When Morgan strikes up a relationship with the mysterious Simone (Sheila Vand, importing substantial menace from her breakout role in A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) their professional interest boils over into a cycle of suspicion, paranoia, and fear. Thankfully, Morgan has a confidant (maybe not her first choice given that she is in prison for murder). Women Who Kill is an adept and wry comedy on modern romance&apos;s hollow results set in an LGBTQ Brooklyn that pulls ample humor from awkward and, perhaps to confirmed Park Slopers, all-too-familiar situations. (Written by Loren Hammonds)

The film will be screened at The Human Rights Campaign Equality Center | 1640 Rhode Island Ave NW at 7pm.

Purchase tickets to the Women Who Kill screening by clicking here.
