Rendon's Throw Knocks Storen Down Again, Nats Season Slipping Away

On Wednesday night the Nationals former closer (and semi-current 8th inning "setup man...now seemingly demoted again to 8th inning matchup guy) Drew Storen gave up another 2 runs thanks to a horrible throwing error by Anthony Rendon. The season is starting to slip away from Matt Williams and the Nationals, now 3 1/2 games out of first place behind the Mets.

The killer play took place in the bottom of the 8th inning when Rendon cut off a Bryce Harper throw to the infield on a double (runner on 3rd) and proceeded to make a rushed & unnecessary throw that went into the stands allowing both runners to score on the play (including the batter). While the Nats were down 1-0 and could barely hit the ball, probably going to lose anyway, it was a crushing blow to their confidence and a microcosm of the state of the baseball team at this moment.

Yunel Escobar could not believe it and as he watched the ball head into the crowd he shouted out what appeared to be "Oh my god! Oh my god!". He was completely shocked that something like this could happen to the Nats once again.

Drew Storen, who has now given up 8 runs in his past 3 appearances, got one more batter out in the 8th and was pulled before the end of the inning for a lefty/lefty matchup with Matt Thornton. It appears that Williams is now going to play matchup baseball in the 8th innings to come which is a dagger to Mike Rizzo's plans. Nats new closer Jonathan Papelbon can't even get into a ballgame and Storen has lost his confidence.

Storen looked like he didn't care anymore after getting the 2nd out of the inning just before getting pulled. The Nationals are looking like a complete mess right now. They have lost 6 out of 10 games and they appear to be lacking any fire whatsoever. Meanwhile the Mets are taking care of business. There are plenty of games left but at some point something has to change.

With Denard Span out of the lineup, Michael A. Taylor has earned his way into the everyday center field position. On Tuesday night in a loss against the Dodgers Taylor had the chance to show off his arm to the LA crowd. With a runner on 2nd Taylor scooted under a deep fly ball and fired a strike to third base to hold an impressed Jimmy Rollins at 2nd base. After the throw Taylor and Rollins shared a moment as the veteran gave the youngster some props for his toss. Here's how it looked in GIF form.

Bryce Harper and his knees are having a lot of trouble lately. Bryce just missed an important game against the Dodgers after hurting his often hurt left knee on a diving catch in the previous game. The day before he had some trouble with the other knee after popping out in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runners on base and a chance to win the game. He was so frustrated with the out he decided to try to break his bat over his knee. He slammed the bat into his leg but it didn't break. Bryce grimaced in pain and tossed the bat with frustration. FP Homerism Reaches New Heights

I love FP but I have to post this because there has to be a limit on homerism in a blowout game. The Nationals trailed 9-1 in the top of the 3rd inning. Nats announcer FP Santangelo had some interesting super homerism to lay on the viewers...some quotes:

"Nats were down 7-0 here last year in August they came back to make it 7-6, Anthony Rendon lined out to center field, put a good at bat on em"

-FP talking about a game the Nationals LOST...not only that he called it the turning point of the season...I like how he added that it was a good at bat...an out though.

"If they score 1 run an inning from here on out and they hold the Braves it will be 9-8"

-FP talking about something very difficult to do, and also a scenario in which the Nationals still LOSE the game

"I like what I just saw right there!"

-FP applauding the Nats for high fiving Denard Span in the dugout after they cut the lead to 9-2. I guess a "morale" victory.

"That got me out of my seat!"

-FP super excited about a Bryce Harper hit that was 20 feet foul...Harper struck out on the next pitch to end the inning.

The Nats can still win this ballgame. I'm with FP and I won't give up. However, I like to remain a bit more realistic. Go NATS!

Rookie Liam O'Brien Is Pretty Awesome

Caps rookie center Liam O'Brien has only played 3 NHL games but he's already starting to get some notice from fans. O'Brien got into a fight in his first career NHL game (and the Caps opening game of the season) and during Tuesday's shootout loss to the Sharks had a rather interesting game in the 6 minutes he was on the ice.

First, O'Brien got into a little scrap with the Sharks giant human being John Scott. Scott, who somehow scored a goal earlier in the night, gave Liam a little stick shove to the face to which the rookie did the following:

Lol. Love the tongue sticking out move with the evil smile. Just a few seconds before this happened, O'Brien picked up the first point of his career, an assist on a Mike Green goal. The rookie was quite happy, and we learned that the 20 year old calls Mike Green by his full name as he joined his teammate to celebrate. (Ok maybe he said Attaboy Greenie) but I like mine - (see comments).

So yeah, we pretty much love this guy here so far...

After Jordan Zimmermann's no hitter on Sunday, Jayson Werth came up and slammed a pie into the pitcher's face. MASN sideline reporter Dan Kolko ended up getting pied as well and like a true professional went on with his interview covered in pie. Just ask this couple who got married earlier in the day then showed up to the ballgame, bride still wearing her dress and groom appropriately dressed in a Jayson Werth shirsey.

The couple tried to get Jayson Werth's attention to have him throw them a ball between innings but the bearded one did not oblige. Booooooo!

Nats Team Store Line Is Out Of Control

Here's what the line to get into the Washington Nationals team store inside the ballpark on Saturday afternoon. People had to wait in line just to get in the store. Every 15 minutes security would try to get the line (which was moving SLOW) pumped up by having them chant "TEAM STORE" (lol). FYI, this stuff is also available online...Thats like 40 people at least.

Local Business Gets Negative Feedback, Vows To Never Use Redskins Name Again

Pete's New Haven Style APizza, a local pizza establishment, had to send out an apology email to customers for using the Washington Redskins name in a promotional email after they received feedback from offended patrons. The Clarendon pizza joint sent out an email letting consumers know about different specials and discounts based on how many touchdowns the Redskins scored. Then, 6 hours later, the ownership sent out an apology letter email and vowed to never use the name again calling it "hurtful" and "offensive".

Seven Standing Ovations At Nats Park Last Night

The Washington Nationals are (as FP would say) "on some kind of" roll right now and fans are pumped up. The Nattys clinched the NL East Division Title on the road at the end of last week and just returned home to DC on Sunday night. Some Nats fans were so excited they ambushed the team when they arrived home from the airport.

The rest of us, who were crying after a Redskins loss, had to wait until Tuesday night's game to show the team our support. And boy was everyone excited for the first game back since clinching the division. I mean, just check out the SEVEN standing ovations that were given to the NL East Champs.

Ovation #1: Fans Applaud A Denard Span Diving Catch early in the game. Span has been making catches like that all season and the fans appreciate it. Spanning...

Ovation #2: Fans demand a curtain call after an Adam LaRoche 3 run lead taking homerun. Fans know that LaRoche may not be here next year, so they want to show him lots of love before he goes.

Ovation #3: Tanner Roark exits the game with the lead in the 7th after giving up 5 hits and 2 runs before his career high 15th win of the season. It was a good performance, but the fans were really cheering for him for unexpectedly helping this team get into the playoffs.

Ovation #4: Ryan Zimmerman enters the game as a pinch hitter, his first at bat at Nats Park since July 20th. Needless to say the crowd was excited to see him again back just in time to help for the World Series push.

Ovation #5: One play before, Bryce Harper missed a seemingly simple fly ball after his glove hit the wall for what was first called a 3 base error (later changed to a hit). The play left a runner on third base in a close 4-2 game. The very next batter Harper made up for it by making a semi-tough running catch and firing a throw home to keep the runner at 3rd. The crowd appreciated the make-up play.

Ovation #6: Tyler Clippard closes out the 8th inning with a strikeout. The K meant that the runner that was on third (from Bryce Harper's play and ovation #5) didn't score, and the Nats escaped the inning.

Ovation #7: Drew Storen closes out the game for his 9th save (10th overall) in as many tries since becoming the Nats closer just 17 days before.

If you thought that was a lot of ovations, just wait until October...

Nationals Fans Welcome Division Champs Back From Road Trip

Unfortunately for Nationals fans, this season the Nats clinched their division championship on the road. While the team celebrated in Atlanta, fans celebrated all across the DMV, but it just wasn't the same. Fans wanted to show the team in person how they felt. So that is probably why there were dozens of fans waiting outside of Nats Park for the team to arrive home from their road trip on Sunday night (after sweeping the Marlins).

Terry Bradshaw Talks Redskins Name Change

Terry Bradshaw was on Craig Furguson the other night and the topic of the Washington Redskins name popped up. Bradshaw kept refusing to say the name making an overexaggerated noise and head shake before it was said, but ended up saying 'Redskins' later in the interview.

It seemed like he genuinely didn't want to use the name, saying:

"In today's world that we live in, if it's totally offensive to a group of folks we really need to consider whether we need to pursue it"

He then burned the Skins for being a bad team, then did a "ZING" like ending to his burn:

"And if you changed it to whatever, I don't think it's gonna...and as bad as they've been I don't think anyone will care anyway...NO I DIDN'T SAY THAT!!!"

Nationals Use Orioles Logo In Bizarre Postseason Shirt

One of these designs on a sweatshirt was a little bit odd because as you can see from the picture, it basically uses a giant cursive O that looks eerily reminiscent of the Baltimore Orioles logo (with a tiny Nats curly W logo in the bottom right). Yep that title is pretty much all I've got for this. Gio often takes pictures of his dog doing human things like reading books, or wearing human clothing. Here is one that the Nats pitcher posted on his Instagram the day after the Redskins game (0-1) for some reason. It is the dog wearing a Redskins hat and modeling one of Gio's billion pairs of shoes. He even used the hashtag HTTR, which could be real or sarcastic.

John Wall is in Hawaii celebrating his 24th birthday with his friends, and the point guard posted an interesting Instagram video of him jumping off a boat into the ocean. The thing that makes the video interesting is that Wall jumps off the boat...well like this...

Yeah, that was a jumping jack thing, which is actually one step below a pencil for a grown man to do. One of his buddies even shouts out "Should have done a flip or somethin N****". Lets hope this girly jump scares away the sharks...

Tosh.0 Throws In Redskins Are Racist Joke, Penn State Bit

If you are not aware, Tosh.0 is a TV show on Comedy Central where the host Daniel Tosh more or less shows YouTube videos and makes jokes about them. It is pretty funny (when they aren't showing videos of people breaking their legs).

On Tuesday night's episode, Tosh did a bit about a lingerie football coach and had former Washington Redskins Lavar Arrington and Joe Theismann help him out with the bit. But unbeknownst (probably) to Lavar & Joe, the Tosh team added an anti-Redskins name subtitle on top of their segments. Then definitely unbeknownst to Lavar, they threw in a Penn State Sandusky joke in there too. Here's the Anti-Redskins subtitle, and Lavar's reaction.

First, the Redskins is racist subtitle. "Former [position] for team with racist name". Here's the screenshots.

Later in the segment, probably not coincidentally, immediately following Lavar's part, they threw in a Jerry Sandusky Penn State joke.

Lavar reacted on Twitter, but said he didn't actually see the show:

I was sleep and missed the Tosh.0 deal, so I'm hearing it made references to PSU and the Skins? Was it bad? Comedy has few perimeters.

Seventeen Year Old Simpsons Episode: Redskins Offensive

I was randomly trying to find something to watch at 12:30am on a Sunday night and stumbled upon the "Every Simpsons Ever" FXX marathon (for the first time). And wouldn't you know it, within 7 seconds of me watching I see the term "Redskin" pop up on my screen. Here's what this 1997 episode of the Simpsons had to say about the term Redskin:

The screenshot below is from the Simpsons episode called "The Old Man & The Lisa". In the scene pictured, Lisa tells Mr. Burns about recycling, and Mr. Burns consults the dictionary in his head to find the term. Because Burns is so old, and his thinking is so antiquated, he has no clue what Recycling is. And as you can see by that screenshot, most of the terms in Mr. Burns dictionary are EVIL.

Burns' dictionary contains other old and outdated terms like 'Ragamuffin' and, yep, 'Redskin', a clever little statement inserted by one of the writers...17 years ago.

It seems that it is not so subtly anti-Redskins, portraying the term as super outdated (being coined in 1699) , claiming that it is usually offensive (the non-usual time meaning when it is a sports team name), and categorizing it with other evil, slimy terms like rattlesnake and reign of terror. Snarky.

Marcin Gortat Driving An Armored Humvee With Usain Bolt In The Gunner Seat

Yep. You aren't seeing things. That is Marcin Gortat driving an armored hum-vee. And yes, the guy in the gunner's seat on top of the jeep is world record holding sprinter and probably fastest man in the world Usain Bolt. What in the heck is going on!

Usain Bolt was in Gorat's homeland of Poland, in Warsaw to run some kind of race. After the dramatic entrance with the Washington Wizards center (who appears to be the most popular/famous person in the entire country of Poland), Bolt ended up setting the world record for the 100 meter dash.

The following picture was sent to me from one of my friends that works out in Ashburn. They went to McDonalds and ordered a silly $1 any size drink. You won't believe what the cup looked like from the Mackers only miles from Redskins Park in the state of Virginia over an hour from Baltimore.

Yep. That's a Baltimore Ravens cup. With their 2014 schedule. From ASHBURN McDonalds! Why is this happening. My friend said she threw the drink in the McDonalds drive thru guy's face. Not really, but that would have been acceptable right?

Trevor Booker Loves Cereal, Cereal Company Takes Notice

A while back, we learned that NBA player Trevor Booker is a cereal eating machine (now the Wizards have DeJuan Blair, who is a Whataburger eating machine). Booker apparently eats up to 3 bowls of the stuff each day, and recently, he has been posting/retweeting a lot of cereal related items, and fans have been sending him the same.

Well cereal company General Mills (Lucky Charms, Cheerios) took notice and sent Booker a gift package with lots of surreal cereal goodies... check out the stuff that was inside.

Looks like he got a cool Lucky Charms hat, a couple boxes of cereal, and what appears to be a green pair of Chuck Taylors (with a lucky charms logo or something?). Pretty cool move by General Mills.

Monumental Network sat down with different players from Team USA camp and asked them about the Washington Wizards duo of John Wall and Bradley Beal. They got some quotes from Steph Curry, Derrick Rose, and 2016-17 Washington Wizard Kevin Durant! Here's what KD had to say about his future teammates.

"Well Brad's been comin' in shooting the ball well defending well, it's fun playing with him, quiet kid, as humble as all can be, one of those guys that can fit into any type of system and he's comin' out here and playing well"

John Wall Hanging Out With Nick Young & JaVale McGee This Weekend

John, Nick, and JaVale. Together Again! What could go wrong?

So a while ago, JaVale McGee (who I used to play call of Duty with) started drinking a gallon jug of water each day to stay hydrated and healthy. He kept saying he was living the "Jug Life" and people kept sending him pictures of themselves with gallon jugs of water under the hashtag #juglife. And now, jug life is a softball game, and John Wall is playing...Lets get back to Jug Life...

After a while, JaVale aka Pierre ended up turning jug life into a charity to help people in foreign countries who don't have drinking water, and to help promote drinking water to stay healthy. You can read all about his charity here (and you can buy some bizarre products there too with money going to the charity, the $18 foam jugs is my favorite...WTF).

To raise some more more money for charity, JaVale called up some of his old Wizards buddies (Nick Young, John Wall) along with some other NBA Players (Kevin Love, Ty Lawson, Nate Robinson) and got them to participate in a softball game out in L.A. this Sunday.

So that should be good for John, some more time with Nick Young and JaVale McGee.

Martell Webster Is A Chimpanzee Benefactor

What? What the heck does that mean? Is that for real?

Yes, it is. Martell and his wife Courtney have donated money to a Chimpanzee sanctuary in Bend, Oregon run by their friend (Chimps Inc), earning the title of Chimpanzee Benefactor. For just a $1,000 donation you too can have this title, and the benefits that come with it including a private tour with the chimps. This donation helps feed one of their chimps for a month.

Here's Martell with one of the chimps, his new friend Emma. With Martell talking to the animal like it is a baby.

In case you are wondering why Martell is in Oregon, he used to play for the Trailblazers. Lets hope Planet of the Apes doesn't start here...

John Wall Gets 2 New Tattoos, Entire Front Covered

Well John Wall is covering up more of his body with tattoos. He now has his entire front side tatted up after picking up 2 more tattoos this offseason. The two new additions are a picture of him as a kid with his dad (who passed away a long time ago) and a tribute to his two sisters with their initials in a bird. Check out the new ink.

Wall already had the Raleigh skyline done on his midsection as well as a big "Mama's Boy" tribute to his mother over his right chest. Now with the 2 new tats on the rest of his chest his entire front side is basically covered. And let's not forget he's got a giant owl taking up his entire ride side, and his enormous "Great Wall" tattoo on his upper back.

At first John didn't want to get any tattoos due to marketing reasons, but after getting inked up in 2013, Wall is on a role. I did not contact Jason Reid to ask his opinion this time.

Bradley Beal's Hero Was Lebron James, He Would Be A Doctor

Yep. I'm still scouring YouTube for Washington Wizards content, and going through hours of boring interviews trying to find something interesting. Being the #1 Lebron hater in the world, whenever his name pops up, I start to pay more attention.

In this pretty typical interview with Bradley Beal he goes over a few things including some of his heroes growing up. The list starts with his older brother Brandon, then transfers to Allen Iverson, then...LEBRON! DAGGER! It's bad enough he is a St. Louis Cardinals fan! Check out this video interview by MaxPreps.

While Beal said Lebron WAS his hero, he didn't want to say too much now that they are enemies.

The other interesting thing Beal said was when he was asked what he would be doing if he wasn't playing basketball. He answered "football", but then continued that if he didn't play football he would be a doctor (then said he is too old to do all that school...he is 21).

With NBA Summer League over, we are really starving for some basketball here. So I found this video interview of John Wall from the BET Awards back in June which was posted by This Is 50 yesterday in timely fashion.

In the interview Wall says he would take Lebron James as a teammate over Carmelo (without even thinking on it), says he doesn't control Lebron & Carmello's ho's, and then talks about how he picks and chooses his "situations" when it comes to crazy groupies. That's good because we all know John is As Single As You Can Get! Is it basketball season yet?

David Aldridge Thinks Bradley Beal Is Too Nice

David Aldridge was calling the Washington Wizards vs Miami Heat Summer League game on Thursday night and the NBA expert had a few interesting things to say about Bradley Beal's personality. The NBA analyst thinks that one of the issues with Beal's game is his personality. He is too nice...

While Beal is a nice guy, Aldridge thinks that Pierce will help the former Florida Gator develop an edge that is required in the league:

"I just think Paul Pierce is going to be so important for Bradley Beal, more so than any other player on that team."

Aldridge then spoke about Beal's personality and the personality needed to win in the NBA:

Adridge finished off his thought about Pierce pushing Beal over the superstar edge:

"And I think Paul will help Bradley Beal in that regard Because Paul knows what its like to be the best player in the biggest game, he was the Finals MVP, so I think he will be able to teach Bradley Beal, real confidence, bordering on arrogance, where you don't think anybody can deal with your game, and that will I think get Bradley Beal to an even higher level as an NBA player."

Beal also spoke about (Among Other Things) being excited to learn/develop some of that arrogance from Pierce when the two practice together this upcoming season.

Bradley Beal sat down with NBA TV during the broadcast of the Wizards Summer League "Playoff" game (lol) and talked about all sorts of Wizards stuff. There was a lot of the usual stuff, but Beal, who has been very quiet and quite honestly a pretty boring interview, opened up a little bit and showed some personality. Here are three key nuggets from the interview where Beal showed a little emotion and excitement.

1. Beal Is Looking Forward To Learn How To Trash Talk From Paul Pierce

When asked about Paul Pierce, Beal said he was excited for the offensive possibilities. The one thing that he really liked about Pierce is that the former Celtic is cocky and isn't afraid to talk trash. Beal even thinks he can learn a thing or two from Pierce about the art of talking smack on the court.

2. Beal Loves That All The Big Men Will Punch You In The Face

When asked about his bigs (Gortat, Nene, Humphries, Blair) Beal lit up. He said he was excited that every single one of them wasn't afraid to bang around inside and push other players around. Beal is specifically impressed with Gortat laying down the Polish Hammer (that is what I call Marcin's finishing move).

3. Coach K Stopped Beal From Further Injury Last Season

When asked about the 2013 Team USA Basketball mini-camp that Beal was invited to, Beal had a very somber tone. Unfortunately for Brad he was injured at the time and was unable to participate. Beal said he was so amped and upset that he was "doing things that I wasn't even supposed to be doing" aka risking injury. However, luckily for Wizards fans, Coach K put a stop to that and Beal was good to go in 2014.

Wizards Summer League Update: There's A Tournament?

It is finally here! The event that everyone around the world has been waiting all year for. The 2014 NBA Las Vegas Summer League Championship Tournament!

This year, the Wizards, AKA Pass the ball to Glen Rice and Otto Porter or go home, have pulled out the #4 seed after going undefeated in their whole 3 games. The Wizards Glen Rice Jr. was the top scorer during the regular session of Summer League dropping 22.7 points per game. Otto Porter also had a good start with 19 points per game.

I'm sure you care a lot, but the tournament starts today, and after the Wizards first round bye, they play tomorrow night (Thursday) at 8pm.

Paul Pierce Would Skip NBA Games To Play Poker

Paul Pierce just finished participating in the 2014 World Series of Poker $10 Million Tournament in Las Vegas. Despite rocking his lucky Red Sox (booo!) hat and a baller Incredible Hulk Tee, the new Washington Wizards small forward was eliminated from contention.

Once Pierce was eliminated from the $10 Milli running, he agreed to sign with the Washington Wizards for...$10 million. But before his elimination he had a very interesting thing to say when asked what would happen if he made it to the final table.

The best part of this interview is that Pierce (jokingly?) says he will ask "coach" (he didn't have an actual team at the time) for time off if he makes it to the final table in November.

After his elimination, Pierce will luckily not have to see #WittmanFace since his final table situation is not happening.

Paul Pierce Makes Soccer Players Look Tough

Heres a clip from 2009 of newly acquired Wizards forward Paul Pierce. During a finals game in 2008 vs the Lakers, Pierce ran into his own player and crashed to the ground screaming in pain. He was carried off the court by his players and then placed in a wheelchair all the time looking like he just saw the end of Marley and Me. New Caps Coach Barry Trotz Doesn't Have A Car

Caps new coach Barry Trotz was on the Junkies this morning talking hockey and said something quite odd. After the Junks asked him a question about driving (I think), the coach let the radio hosts know that he didn't have a car. Trotz said something along the lines of, "why do you need a car when you can walk".

In case you were wondering, the brisk walk from Kettler to Verizon is just a 6 mile, 2 hour trek.

Bob Ryan Thinks Wizards Can Be #1 Contenders In The East

Bob Ryan was filling in for Tony Kornheiser on ESPN's PTI show. Ryan had some interesting comments concerning the Washington Wizards. Ryan seems to think that if Lebron James leaves Miami that the Washington Wizards will all of a sudden take a big leap in the east. Here's what he had to say.

Here are a few potential names that the Redskins could take should Dan Snyder ever decide to change the name:

Washington All-Skins

A way to insult everyone, no matter what the color of their skin. We can have racial caricatures of EVERY race on the helmet to even things out. Equality.

Washington No-Skins

Just take the current Redskins logo, remove the skin, and bam. No longer racist. Now just gross and morbid, kind of like the team's typical performance. Plus the Cowboys fans calling them the Deadskins would be less of an insult.

Yay, it is something in hockey I don't understand. Nick Backstrom scored a goal by smashing his hockey stick into the goalie mask of the goalie, and the puck bounces off the goalie and into the net. After a quick discussion, the refs overturn the goal.

It appeared they thought there was a high stick penalty, and while they didn't add the penalty, the refs decided the goal wasn't allowed. Or there was a high stick. Or...ug...Whatevs. Someone please explain in comments!

Minutes later the Caps couldn't score on a powerplay and then the Stars scored posing this sarcastic pondering from Locker.

Last year before the season started, Washington Post columnist and NBA player name dropper Mike Wilbon picked his preseason Stanley Cup Matchup; Washington Capitals vs Chicago Blackhawks. Well he was half wrong.

The Blackhawks went on to win the Stanley Cup while the Capitals sort of creeped into the playoffs (although winning the division) before being eliminated in the first round.

And just hours before the season opener, Wilbon has once again picked his Stanley Cup Matchup; Washington Capitals vs Chicago Blackhawks...again.

"They [Blackhawks] begin against the Washington Capitals, in what I am calling a preview of the NHL Finals" -MW

Kornheiser, when asked which would be better, the Hawks repeating or Ovechkin finally winning a championship, said both would be good. He added that Ovi winning would be good for I-95 (what?) before crushing him with facts seconds later.

"It's also a good thing, for I-95, if Alex Ovechkin not only finally wins a championship...he's never even gotten to the conference finals, he has been a 3x MVP, a total dud in the playoffs, most recently" -TK

A Redskins Fan Guide To The Caps & The NHL 2013

Here are some things that Redskins fans should read that may convince them to give hockey a shot tonight.

Rocking The Red

If you go to FedEx Field, you will often note that there are 5 billion people wearing the other team's jersey. There are a lot of Skins jerseys, but the stadium isn't packed to capacity with maroon & black (JZ). And my god is it annoying when there are 40,000 terrible towels waiving in Maryland, it makes you want to jump off of Gheorge Muresan's head and fall a thousand feet (or 7 and a half feet) to your death.

At a Caps game we call it "Rocking the Red". 95% of those in attendance wear red. The other 5% are Penguins/Rangers/Flyers fans who think it is funny to wear the jersey of a team that isn't even playing, people who didn't read the invitation (which clearly said to rock the red), and the classic Guys In Pink Shirts At Wizards Games (or Caps Games).

Less Racism

The Washington Football team is called the Redskins. The Washington Hockey team is called the Capitals. One is more racist than the other. Clearly the Caps. But I did hear that Capitals call each other Capitals, so maybe it isn't racist.

Somebody Left The Gate Open

I have now seen the Bud Light Rodney flips over cheese puffs while screaming at the TV commercial 400 times this Redskins season. It is pretty much the worst 30 seconds of my life x 400 times.

But for the Caps games we have something better. The Beatles meet Michael Jackson meet Picaso. It is called Somebody Left The Gate Open. While Skins fans see Rodney 400 times, Caps fans see the gate commercial 4,000,000 times (I counted). This is pretty much the greatest song ever created in the history of the universe. And to hear it 2 times during every commercial break for 82 games is just heaven. I guarantee by game 3 you will be singing it in the shower, and one day you may walk down the aisle to it. (shhhh don't tell them).

Joe B & Locker

Because hockey is like normal sports, and not like the NFL, we have our own personal Capitals announce team. While Redskins fans get to hear Dick Stockton pronounce Roy Helu 20 different ways while Rhonde Barber tries to compose a sentence, Joe B & Locker make for an entertaining, homerific hockey game. And oh the banter...that precious banter...

Toughness

If Brian Orakpo looks at Tom Brady's Ugz, there is a 15 yard penalty and possible suspension. If John Erskine breaks Joe Thornton's face, there might be a 2 minute penalty...maybe.

Playoffs

After the Caps Alex Ovechkin won rookie of the year, the team made the playoffs...EVERY YEAR after that. After the Redskins RG3 won rookie of the year, he made a documentary about how great he was and then came back and started 0-3. (Although the Caps are from DC, so its not like they ever advance far)

Hybrid Icing

It just sounds cool. You know you want to watch it.

D'Angelo Hall Is Not On The Roster

Ok, sure he has more TDs this season than RG3 (not really), but the Onion put it best: "Has an amazing knack for gaining separation from a receiver".

Jason Whitlock subbed in for Michael Wilbon on Pardon the Interuption, and he had some very interesting opinions about Robert Griffin III. Either very interesting, or very "trying to make himself part of a news story".

On the second top story of the show (after Johnny Football) Tony & Whitlock discussed RG3 starting game 1. This causes Whitlock to compare the Redskins QB to people like TO, Ocho Cinco, Tiger Woods and even Kim Kardashian.

It appears Whitlock is just name dropping random big names to create a shock, but here are some of the choice quotes anyways:

Whitlock On If Being Named Starter Ends The Sideshow

"No it does not at all because Robert Griffin III loves the spotlight. Loves it as much as Terell Owens, loves it as much as Chad Johnson, he is just wrapped better, more palatable to the mainstream and so we put up with it, and I for one am fed up with it..."

Whitlock comparing the QB to Tiger Woods:

"We are looking at the 2nd coming of Tiger Woods. We are gonna hype this guy into fraudulence, because he's buying into it, and we are going to be very disappointed when we find out just how flawed he is."

On why RG3 kept bringing up his beef with Shanny all summer:

"Because he is building a Twitter Following Tony! He wants to be involved in controversy. He wants to be a Kardashian!"

At this point Kornheiser gasps/laughs out loud/screams "WHAT?" because he can't believe what he is hearing. Then Whitlock attempts to make a Chloe Kardashian being single bit, and decides against it as he considers RG3's marriage situation.

"He's a smart kid and he understands the leverage he has over his head coach. And if you allow a kid to have leverage over a parent or an adult he will take advantage of it and that is what he is doing"

Wow. Kornheiser made a face, was speechless, and just pointed at Whitlock while shaking his head before they moved on to the next story.

Junkies 2013 Summer Dress Party Recap

It was the biggest night of the summer. The night of the annual Sports Junkies Summer Dress Party. And needless to say, I was cised.

At around 5pm I went to Outback and ordered basically everything on the menu. This was designed to fill my stomach up before a night of endless drinking. I wouldn't mention this part of the story but it literally "comes up" later.

I arrived at the Clarendon Ballroom right at 7pm, walked up to the rooftop, and my jaw dropped. Why? Was the girl in the purple dress in front of me? Was Chris Cooley hanging out? Nope, there was another reason.

On both the left side and right side of the pathway to the rooftop bar, there was nothing but dudes. It was like a scene from the Hitchcock movie The Birds, where all the crows are lined up around the playground on power wires. Except the crows were bros, and the power lines were bar tables. Waiting to attack the next girl who walked by in a sundress...

These dudes may have looked like donks, but they did avoid the hour long line that would start to form outside over the next few hours.

Luckily a few minutes later, the girl in the purple dress showed up, and once again I was cised (and not in the same way as in the beginning of the story if you know what I mean)

As time went on, the ladies began to show up, and next thing you knew the entire rooftop was jam packed with athletes, local celebrities, junkies listeners, and hotties in sundresses. I spent the night talking to Valdez about Mama Griz, trying to steal E-Wadd's date, heckling Cakes for playing his sound effects, and learning about seafoam from Tucker Barns.

Me and DC Sports Bog, he introduced me to everyone mentioning
this crappy website, and it was embarrassing.

It was a typical fun Junkies event. Zings were flying all over the place. At one point in the men's room a guy said that he didn't want to use the urinal, and he wanted to use a stall. This was my opportunity. "What's up Dante STALLworth!" Someone said "good zing" and so my night was made.

There were so many cool people there that I forgot to holler...and before I knew it I was too drunk to. It was time to go.

I went to the bar to close my tab, and was shocked to find that I owed $150. I looked at the receipt and despite the bar having the dumbest tab system ever (you tell them a # instead of your name) everything checked out.

I was too drunk to be at the bar, and did not need or want another drink. But the bartender was excited for the $30 tip and he handed me a free shot of Fireball. I took the shot and after that, blank.

Never had a bar tab so large it had to be ran 2x

When my mind returned I found myself at the Vienna Metro station puking in the grass. After watching both my $40 Outback bill and my $180 bar tab splatter on the ground in chunks, I grabbed a cab and headed to my parent's house (closest to the metro).

As the cab pulled into the driveway at 2am I realized that I was felted. I had $0 in my wallet. I went in the house, saw my mom's purse sitting on the kitchen counter, stole $30, and paid the driver. The perfect ending to the perfect night.

So it is the Stanley Cup Finals and an actual main TV network, NBC, is broadcasting hockey. Amazing. The game went into 2 overtimes (so far) and delayed the start of a new episode of Jay Leno. Jay Leno fans tuned in to see Kevin Hart on Leno and were not happy...They do not like hockey...LOL:

Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon talked about Alexander Ovechkin on Tuesday following the Caps game 7 loss to the New York Rangers. They discussed how Ovechkin was complaining about no penalties in game 6 and Ovi's conspiracy theory. Here is what Wilbon had to say:

"I was in Chicago in the United Center watching Bulls/Miami last night and I get a tweet with the score, a picture of the scoreboard when it was 3 nothing, and I'm like Ok, the Washington Capitals have choked like few other NHL franchises have choked over a period of 30 years, But I don't even believe this, this photo is doctored, I couldn't believe that. Tom Wilson Was Trending, Back To The Future!

During Sunday night's Washington Capitals playoff game, rookie Tom Wilson lost a skate creating one of the funnier scenes of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs as he struggled to get to the bench on one leg (cool GIF here). The play caused "Tom Wilson" to start trending locally on Twitter.

So why were some people confused about this?

I'm sure you've seen the great Back to the Future movies. And if you have seen them, then you know Biff, Marty McFly's nemesis in all three films in the series who is always crashing into manure trucks and botching cliches (screen door on a battleship).

What you may not have known is that the actor who plays Biff is Thomas Wilson (Tom Wilson). So once non Caps fans saw 'Tom Wilson' trending, they assumed something happened to Biff. Their tweets:

Tom Wilson's Skate Blade Falls Off, His Comical Journey To The Bench

During the Caps vs Rangers game 6 at Madison Square Garden, Caps rookie Tom Wilson, playing in just his second career NHL game, checked a Rangers player into the boards behind the Ranger's goal and the blade of his skate broke off.

Wilson was trapped far away from his bench with no way to skate back...here is Wilson bumbling and stumbling, trying to make his way to the freedom of his bench. It's all good when you don't get hurt! Check it out!

My favorite part was at the end when it looks like Chimera pushes Wilson's rear end to give him the final boost to the bench. Wilson was shown laughing on the bench afterwards. What a second game.

Impromptu Go-Go Dance Party Breaks Out On F Street After Caps Defeat Rangers

On Friday night at Verizon Center, after the Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers with an exciting overtime goal, a big thunderstorm broke out just as the huge crowd was exiting the Verizon Center. That didn't stop the over-excited crowd from expressing their joy after witnessing an amazing and important victory.

A large group of fans gathered around a street performing band and a huge dance party broke out. While many people (and the band) were packed under a small corner overhang, several were just dancing in the rain, soaking wet. It was fun and a really cool scene.

At one point a father puts his tiny daughter on his shoulders and the crowd begins to dance with them as the little girl bounces like crazy as she holds up a "World's Biggest Caps Fan" sign. You can see what you missed in the video below.

It was around 11:30pm and the band tried to leave but the crowd wouldn't let them. They unpacked their instruments for one last song. It was awesome. When it was over the trombone player ran around high-fiving everyone and people chanted "Let's Go Caps!" as the crowd dispersed.

Fans didn't want to go home, they wanted to soak in the victory all night long, both figuratively and literally.

Although Penn Quarter/Chinatown has a ton of bars, a handful of which are solid, and I live a mile away and work 5 blocks away, I rarely make it over to this neighborhood, for a lot of different reasons that I won’t get into here. When I do come to the area, it’s to catch a movie or attend a Wizards or Caps game (or some other event or concert) at the venue which made the neighborhood a destination after it opened in 1997, the Verizon Center.

One of the bars I might check out before or after a game or movie, up on 7th St. just north of H, is R.F.D. Washington. This bar, which stands for “Regional Food and Drink” (I know, terrible), opened in January 2003 and is owned by the family that brought you the legendary Brickskeller, one of the first and biggest beer bars in the U.S., which was operated in Dupont Circle until 2010 (now the Bier Baron, under different ownership).

R.F.D. itself is a beer-lovers haven-you’ll find a huge beer menu, a ton of beers on tap, and a host of beer events (though usually off the radar compared to others spots like Churchkey, Meridian Pint, or even the nearby Penn Social).

I recently stopped by before a Capitals playoff game; happy hour until 7pm includes four different $4 craft draft beers (all solid, unique, and new to me) along with a skip-it $5 “Rockin’ Red” shot (Finlandia cranberry flavored vodka, Triple sec, and a splash of cranberry juice)

Beers normally are the standard craft-beer price, $6-8. The bar, probably because it is so huge, is full of folks in red jerseys but not too crowded even before a sold-out playoff game.

R.F.D.’s atmosphere is not really divey or hip, it’s evokes more of a T.G.I. Friday’s vibe (unless you’re in a basement or crappy hotel-it’s hard to be divey in Chinatown). You’re not going here to rage or have a romantic classy cocktail. Walking in, there are two small seating areas on opposite sides of the entrance which flank 7th Street-they are isolated from the rest of the bar but are exposed to natural light.

A few steps up take you to the main part of R.F.D. A long u-shaped bar is to your left-the bartenders are pretty responsive and there’s usually enough space to stand near the bar, while ordering and drinking. The bulk of the room is devoted to lots of regular tables like a restaurant with waiter service which kind of contributes to the chain restaurant atmosphere; a few more hightops and communal tables would help.

After you wind your way through the tables, glass doors lead you to the outdoor patio area. Although covered with absolutely no view (more like a greenhouse courtyard than anything), the patio has its own bar (not always open) and waiter service and lets you drink outside-this is surprisingly hard to do in the neighborhood. Beyond, there is a whole another large back room (in a different building) with its own bar, tables and more open space than the front bar-if you’re looking for a relatively more party-vibe in R.F.D., this is where you’ll find it.

Although not really a destination of itself, R.F.D. is a solid spot to meet friends and grab great beers before or after a game.

Before the start of Game 2 of Rangers/Caps of the NHL playoffs, A group of New York Rangers fans at Verizon Center decided to wait for a quiet moment between stanzas in the National Anthem to scream "Let's Go Rangers". It was really annoying and ruined what is typically a nice patriotic moment before games. Video follows.

Although Caps fans still yelled "OH" so I don't know how that isn't bad/stupid too. I was in the upper deck and could hear the fans who were all the way on the other side of the arena.

RG3 Jumps A Few Times, Does 2 Jumping Jacks, Runs Off Stage

Here's a clip (before it gets deleted) of Rober Griffin III at the Redskins draft party at FedEx field on Saturday afternoon. The NFL Network had cameras on hand and showed a clip of the injured quarterback taking the stage.

RG3 got the crowd pumped up and chanting his name by doing an exercise that my great grandmother does every morning, jumping jacks. Robert did a whole 2 of them which of course is an equal comparison to running around the field avoiding 300 pound monsters who are all trying to snap your leg in half.

When his speech was over, RG3 did a quick foot running drill as he headed off stage, also caught on video by a fan.

The Skins are clearly Super Bowl bound! All in for week 1. At least of Jazzercize if not football. Videos follow:

A Day With My New Best Friend, Alfred Morris

So I want to tell you all about the day I met my best friend...His name is Alfred Morris...

My coworker and I were just minding our business at work and we were informed that Alfred Morris was going to be at the Harris Teeter down the street. Fred, as close friends like myself call him, was there promoting his new "Chicken a la Mo" sandwich.

Both my coworker and I were a bit tired after a long night of watching the Redskins whip up on the Giants, but the left over adrenalin from the win and the smell of deli meat lured us into the grocery store.

To say I was nervous was an understatement. As I stood in the line to meet the rookie star, my palms dripping with sweat, I recited in my head what I would say to him.

"You were great last night"

Now that is something I haven't said in a long long time...at least concerning Washington Redskins players...uh...wait...digging a hole here...let's forget about this whole paragraph.

The guy a few people in front of me also must have been contemplating his own zing all day because he asked the running back, "So...did you drive your old '91 Mazda here?" as he took a horrible picture. Fred was not impressed as it was most likely the 30th time someone used that line on him that day. Did you really think that was creative bro?

The next guy up, to the delight of the long line of people, brought his crying son to the event. As the screaming child approached the Washington Redskin, Fred said, "Uh Oh, Stranger Danger!" The father/son also took a horrible picture, and finally it was my turn.

All of a sudden I was Ralphie from A Christmas Story, except I was an adult...and I was holding a Mr. Potato Head Doll...and Santa was more of a muscular and stocky football player...and yes, I said I was holding a Mr. Potato Head.

"You were great last night!"

Fred laughed at my Mr. Potato Head and asked where I got it.

Uh oh Fred! That wasn't in the script!!!!

I mumbled something that was so dumb that I can't even specifically remember what exactly it was. I immediately decided to get my money back from that improv class I took.

I felt my face paralyze and then there was the flash of the camera. And then...it happened...

HE TOUCHED MY SHOULDER!!!

Suddenly my hangover from the previous night’s celebration was gone. My feet floated off the ground while actually remaining on the ground. I dunno...it was weird. I've been a Redskins fan my whole life, but that was the first time I got to meet an actual player and get an autograph.

And I couldn’t have gotten it from a better player and person. Thank you Fred!

Two guys that did not perform up to expectations this season

I. Brandon Banks – For the past few years Redskins fans have been wowed by Brandon Banks explosive returns (once or twice). Even though they almost always got taken back because of penalties. This year fans expected the same explosiveness in the return game to help set up RGIII and the rest of the offense. However Banks just dropped off this season to the delight of Redskins fans. He took kicks out of the endzone that had no business being returned, scored 0 touchdowns and got replaced after Week 12. The general feeling in D.C. is that Banks has played his last game in a Redskin uniform.

III. Leonard Hankerson – Leonard Hankerson's targets increased from 20 to 57 this year. However Hankerson was still limited in action because of his drops. He simply doesn't catch the football consistently enough to warrant more playing time. Coming into the season many hoped he'd overcome his habit of dropping the football and use his 6'2 frame to reel in touchdowns. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, but he did give hope that maybe next year will be the year?

RG3 Would Be Ready For 2013...If He Was Benched After The Ravens Game

Well that headline isn't exactly a fact...but...

With the news just in about Robert Griffin the third under going a "successful" surgery, doubt still looms about whether or not he will be 100% before the start of the 2013 season. Doctor James Andrews is hiding behind a vague answer.

One thing is for sure, the Redskins better not let him step one foot on the field until he is 100%. Not 50%, not 90%, not even 99.9999999999999%. Robert Griffin is the Redskins fans' golden ticket and their chocolate factory is a large stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey.

If something doesn't change offensively with the gameplan that keeps RG3 safe from himself as well as the opposing defenses, then the trust of Redskins fans goes right out the door. Fan-anger is already at a fever-pitch after coaches allowed the QB to keep taking the field after his initial injury against the Ravens.

And think about this for a minute; had the Skins removed Griffin from the lineup earlier, he may have still required surgery. If that happened he would already be in his second month of recovery and rehab. That would have nearly guaranteed his knee would be better for the 2013 campaign.

Instead, Redskins fans will have to cross their fingers and hope for the best.

What does that mean! It means we should all rent the movie Mr. Destiny and watch it 5 times.

Three guys that impressed Redskins this season on the defense and special teams

I. Rob Jackson – To be completely honest we though Rob Jackson's NFL career was possibly over after this season. The Redskins linebacking core was full of elite defenders such as London Fletcher, Brian Orakpo, and Ryan Kerrigan and Jackson's previous seasons were subpar. But when Pro Bowl Linebacker Orakpo went down for the season during Week Two, someone had to step up.

The Redskins didn't look for a trade, or free agent, they simply said “Next man up”, and that happened to be Rob Jackson. Rob responded to the challenge in a big way with 4 interceptions and 4.5 sacks. He was a big reason for the Redskins mid season turnaround and is going to get payed when his contract expires this offseason.

II. Niles Paul & Richard Crawford – To the disappointment of several Redskins fans, Brandon Banks was going to be the main man on special teams in 2012. But after some injury and/or poor play, Banks was replaced in the punt game by Richard Crawford and on kick returns by Niles Paul. Paul & Crawford stepped in and made smart decisions on when to take a knee, when to fair catch, and when to return.

Paul never ended up breaking any showstopping runs, but the 233 monster took the ball downfield and gave RG3 solid field position. Crawford did a similar thing with a little more excitement, making one of the biggest plays of the regular season on an overtime punt return against Baltimore that helped the Redskins take home a big win.

III. Madieu Williams – With injury and suspension decimating the Redskins, their secondary was in shambles. Enter Madieu Williams.

At the start of the season, few knew much about the 31-year-old safety, but he finished 3rd on the team in tackles with 99 and added a big interception. If you take away his subpar performance in the playoffs, Williams was often a bright spot in a very dark defensive backfield.

Three guys that impressed Redskins this season on the offense side of the ball

I. Logan Paulson – Coming into the season many experts predicted it would be time for Fred Davis to finally break out. However this was far from the case as he scored 0 touchdowns in 7 games before he went down with a season ending Achilles injury.

The Redskins then scrambled to find a replacement, even signing the previously cut Chris Cooley. As it turns out the guy they were looking for was already on their roster. Logan Paulson stepped up and caught some huge passes to end this season including a playoff touchdown. Paulson proved he deserves to compete for major minutes in the NFL.

II. Alfred Morris – What do fantasy experts tell you about Redskins runningbacks? Don't draft them. But you didn't listen and drafted one anyway. Whoops. You scooped up Roy Helu Jr as a sleeper pick. Whoops again.

Coming into the season Helu was expected to carry the load as longshot 6th round draft pick Alfred Morris was fighting to make the team as a fullback. As it turns out Alf outplayed everyone in the preseason, earned the starting role, and ended up as the NFLs 2nd leading rusher, only behind Purple Jesus himself. How does that 1600 yards and 13 TD's taste fantasy experts?

III. Santana Moss – For the longest time Santana Moss has been a staple in the Redskins offense. Year after year he was as consistent as could be. However after turning 33 in the offseason the Redskins signed 2 big free agent wideouts. Santana was being phased out...or was he?

Santana ended up catching 8 touchdown passes, the most he's ever had in one season as a Redskin! His receptions may have been down but he was definitely one of RGIII's favorite redzone targets. The old man showed that he still had gas left in the tank.

Robert Griffin III Please Don't Gilbert Arenas

The Washington Redskins were flying high. They had just won 7 straight games to make a miraculous playoff run, ending the season as NFC East Division Champions...Redskins star Robert Griffin III was the talk of the town, and the entire hopes of a city rested on his shoulders...Enter a knee...

On Sunday afternoon fans watched as an injured Robert Griffin III limped around the field on a hobbled knee, possibly doing extra damage as he tried to lead the Washington Redskins to a playoff victory. It was an inspiring effort, but it has drawn a lot of criticism, especially in hindsight after it was revealed today that the rookie QB will have to undergo a full knee reconstruction.

It almost sounds familiar to DC sports fans...

The Washington Wizards were flying high once too (believe it or not). They had just locked up the best record in the Eastern Conference for the 2006-07 regular season and headed into the All-Star break as an assumed NBA Finals contender. Wizards star Gilbert Arenas was the talk of the town, and the entire hopes of a basketball-rich city rested on his shoulders...Enter another knee...

Arenas injured his knee later that season and the team collapsed with his Meniscus Later, during a playoff series with the Cleveland Cavaliers just one season later, an injured Gilbert Arenas limped around the court on a hobbled knee trying to lead the Washington Wizards to a playoff victory. The effort was commendable, but the Wizards could not win.

There were several crazy factors involved in Gilbert's situation. He attempted several comebacks when not 100%. And in the end, Arenas was never the same again.

So why are DC athletes inclined to risk their careers for seemingly small moments of hopefully long careers? Is it because the fans are so starved for something to make them happy? The hope created by both of these athletes in DC was enormous, and each player seemed to love the fans who gave their everything to root on their heroes. It must be hard when thousands are counting on you.

Or does it have to do with the personality of the individual player? Is it selfishness? Is it a soldier-mentality? Is it heart?

No matter what the reason, it was clear that RG3 risked excess injury by coming back from injury too soon. An action that Gilbert Arenas repeated several times, transforming an NBA rising star into a guy who can't even finish a full season playing a million miles away in China.

Please Robert Griffin, do NOT become the next Gilbert...listen to your doctors. Come back when you are 100%. The fans will understand.

Kirk Cousins Not Recognized By Die Hard Redskins Fan

This is a fun and interesting tweet from the Washington Redskins backup (or next year's starting quarterback...ug) Kirk Cousins. He claims that a Redskins fan asked him if he was a Redskins fan himself, not recognizing him as an NFL player.

Is it a lying "die hard" fan? Is it the haircut? Or is it just the life of a backup QB in the NFL? I've noticed the same thing as the following Tweeter

A Fan Response To Etan Thomas' Letter To RG3

This is a fan letter in response to "An Open Letter To RG3" by former Wizards player Etan Thomas

Dear Etan,

A very proud adult man could hardly sleep last night. I am a huge fan of RG3 and I was extremely proud of the heart shown by my favorite player fighting for all of Washington DC as Fox Sports displayed his heroics during the Redskins’ playoff loss to Seattle Sunday.

As a huge Redskins fan I’m not happy now, but I can’t blame RG3 or tell him that he was wrong.

When I have a son of my own I will teach him to never give up. I will teach him to fight for those that depend on him. I was moved by the heart of Robert Griffin III and I hope that one day my son will have similar character. I just can't agree with the lesson you found in the story.

As a professional athlete yourself, who had open heart surgery, and then returned to the NBA, you should understand…at least a little. Did you give up when Brendan Haywood ripped out your hair?

And just so you know Mr. Thomas, Robert did not go back into that football game because he was afraid of being called a quitter like Jay Cutler. He went back into the game because he is not a paid gladiator, but a soldier, who would die on that football field for his teammates.

The fact that Mike Shanahan did not take RG3 out of the game may have not been the best decision. The player who gave it all on the field was begging to continue the fight, and in the heat of the moment how can the coach really say no?

You can call Mike Shanahan all the evil names you want, but in the end Robert Griffin is an adult, and Robert Griffin could have taken himself out of the game. Not only did nobody force him to keep playing, but the player himself was never truthful about how injured he really was. And this is coming from a guy who is upset mostly at Shanahan and only a little at RG3. (Upset, understanding, and not viciously angry)

Once again, nobody was going to question the toughness of RG3. NOBODY. Not one single person in the entire universe, if he took himself out of the game. The media was the last thing on his mind.

As a huge Redskins fan it crushes me that he played in that game. It crushes me that he didn’t take himself out. It crushes me that the coach didn’t step in and force him to sit out. But I still love RG3, and I’m proud of the heart he showed.

If RG3 proved anything in that game, it was that he has the heart of a champion. He has strong character. He will never give up. And if lessons like that upset your 7 year old son then I don't know what you are doing.

The Wizards Coach Randy Wittman Fires A Shot At Mike Shanahan

The Washington Wizards are far from a successful team. In fact, they currently have the worst record in the entire NBA. But after a big win over the top team in the NBA the Oklahoma City Thunder on a buzzer beater Monday Night, Wiz coach Randy Wittman took a moment to dis Mike Shanahan in his post-game press conference, to the delight of the media.

The Wiz were shorthanded due to injury, and two players that had previously missed several games came back to contribute because of the shortened roster. But did the injured players get the doctor's approval before coming back? Let's hear what coach Wittman (record 5-28) has to say:

"Being down 7 guys and having to talk AJ and Trevor ...with the doctor's approval...Ok...WITH THE DOCTOR'S APPROVAL ...alright...I just want to make that clear, I don't want anything started here...that they could give me some minutes"

Take that Shanny! The worst coach in the NBA firing shots!!!

It made me smile for a minute, then I remembered that what happened to RG3 was in fact real life...
