The DC Center in collaboration with ETC invites you to attend our first event of the year, a play titled Charm on Thursday, January 26th 2017 at 8:00 PM at Mosaic Theater Company (1333 H STREET N.E., Washington, DC 20002)

The Play "Charm" is about:
Mama Darleena Andrews, a 67 year-old transgender woman and the inimitable etiquette instructor at "The Center," an organization for Chicago's homeless and LGTBQ youth. Her students are as diverse in background as they are in identity, united by a feeling of other-ness in the heart of a city that's left them behind. But for "Mama Darlin," triumph over poverty and prejudice begins with lacing up and fitting in--playing the part with class and with charm.

B'Ellana Duquesne (The T Party) stars as 'Mama,' inspired by the heartwarming true story of Chicago trans icon Miss Gloria Allen, under direction of visionary artist Natsu Onoda Power (The T Party).

Charm runs two hours and twenty minutes, with one fifteen minute intermission.
All discussions open to the public and begin immediately after the play ends.

Tickets are reserved at $15 a seat, and there will be 20 free tickets for those less fortunate.... contact shareese@thedccenter.org

On December 17 we are coming together as a community to help our LGBTQ community by giving the gift of warmth.

We are conducting a coat, gloves, hat & scarf drive to let our community know that we are here for them this winter. As the winter approaches we must give back to those who aren't fortunate to have coats or winter gear

Giving back is the best gift. Knowing you're making a difference to a very under served community is an even bigger accomplishment. Come join us and end the year with cheers of joy.

Although we are accepting early donations for our share the warmth coat drive the official launch date will be on December 17 2016 at the End violence against sex workers event

For any question or concerns please feel free to contact our office for details

You are invited to join The DC Center for the LGBT Community and Capital Pride Alliance for our event, Roar & Restore: Community Conversations, this Saturday, December 10th 2016 from 12pm to 3pm at The Reeves Center (2000 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009). The afternoon will be filled with conversation, reflection, collaboration, and restoration.

The results of November 8th's election have left our community feeling an entire spectrum of emotions--from devastation and concern, to hopefulness and determination. Regardless of where you might find yourself on that spectrum, we invite you to join us and engage other members of the community in an open and productive discussion. A brief schedule of the day is as follows:

An eat and greet with soup and beverages

Large group discussion, moderated by a facilitator

Affinity break-out groups, as determined by some of the most pressing LGBT issues/concerns (i.e., issues that affect the trans community, issues that affect LGBT people of color, issues that affect LGBT families, etc)

Artistic expression, both with small groups and individually

For more information about the event, please do not hesitate to contact our event coordinator, Cierra Buckner at cierrabuckner@thedccenter.org or by calling (202) 682-2245.

The HIV Working Group's packing parties are held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. In December , the parties will be: Tuesday, December 6th and Tuesday, December 20th at The DC Center (2000 14th Street NW, Suite 105, Washington DC 20009). So, join volunteers at our office from 7pm to 9pm!

Come out and join us and help put together safer sex kits to be distributed at LGBT spaces in DC, including Town, JR's, Green Lantern, and Secrets. If you are aware of spaces that are in need of safer sex kits that serve communities of color, please have them contact the DC Center to be added to our kit distribution list.

You too can fight HIV in DC by volunteering your time to this effort! You can meet new people, and find out more about the HIV Working Group and the DC Center's new campaign aimed at reaching MSM's and Trans women of color. The new kits will include information on PrEP, a new medication that reduces the risk of contracting HIV by over 92% with just one pill a day!

Be sure to check out The DC Center's BePrEPed app for andriod phones by clicking here or phone Iphones click here.

For more information about the HIV Working Group find them on Facebook or Twitter.

Support incarcerated LGBTQI folx behind bars this holiday season by taking some time to write them holiday cards. This is the 4th annual Black & Pink international holiday card writing movement!

Members of Center Latinxs, Collective Action for Safe Spaces (CASS), Black Youth Project 100 (BYP100) and other community members are gathering to write holiday cards for LGBTQI people behind bars, Wednesday, December 7th at 7:30pm at The DC Center (2000 14th St NW, Suite 105, Washington, DC 20009).

From Black & Pink: "As you can imagine, the holiday season is often a really rough time for folks inside prison. Whatever holidays you may or may not celebrate this time of year, our incarcerated members are often denied the ability to celebrate their traditions in the ways they choose, whether their desire be to celebrate the returning of light for Solstice, the miracle of Hanukkah, the birth story of Jesus, the Black radical tradition of Kwanzaa, New Year's Day, or something else. All too often our members do not have family and friends to reach out to them with cards or visits, making this time particularly isolating. The cards you will make bring moments of joy, connection and kindness to our members while telling prison staff that people on the outside are watching. Learn more about Black and Pink here"

* ~ We are excited to be joined by DJ Mothershiester of Anthology of Booty ! ! rad liberatory beats for a rad event ~ *

DONATIONS: Please bring $5 to help with postage! We are hosting this independently and do not have any centralized funding. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

*Please note The DC LGBT Center is located on the 1st floor of the Reeves building on 14th and U street. You will be asked to show identification upon entering the building*
