He received this as a gift when he was just 3 years old from his great-grandmother. He is very serious when it comes to Sam. For many years he would not sleep anywhere without him. Sam has made MANY trips back to Pennsylvania with us to visit my family. I can’t tell you how many times I have fixes Sam and surprisingly, he still is in great condition but he stays in the bedroom now. No more traveling for Sam. I am thrilled about this because it means no more incidents of poor Sam potentially getting left behind.

Spencer, my “baby”, who is turning 5 tomorrow, has Freddy Teddy. When he was born myself, my Mom and Royal were walking around a national clothing store when he spotted Freddy Teddy. He asked if he could buy it for Spencer, so we did. Freddy Teddy is still with us today kicking it every night with Sam.

Though the boys are so serious about Sam and Freddy Teddy, they aren’t the softest things I have ever seen. One would think that cuddling up to them wouldn’t be that much fun. If you have a child that doesn’t yet have that favorite stuffed animal, let me suggest perhaps the most huggable plush ever, Fuzzy’s from GUND. These are extra soft and extra floppy making them the ideal companions everywhere you go! Most people in the Poconos burn their garbage instead of paying for the pick-up. This means a lot of jar and can washing because you obviously can’t burn that stuff. I remember when I first moved to Ohio, I had finished up the mayonnaise and I started to rinse the jar out. Complete habit! I was asked what was I doing? As stupid as this may sound, the moment I remembered that I could just throw it in the trash, I was so excited. Not because I didn’t want to recycle but because it was almost like a novelty to throw it away lol

It seems like more and more people are getting involved in recycling these days. Royal even tries to get into it a little bit but he isn’t consistent. I live in a small apartment for now so I really don’t have the space for a bunch of bins. The Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler is an easy solution to that problem. It attaches to the inside of a cabinet door to collect recyclables out of sight and keeps your counters clear. The bag is durable, machine washable, and made of recycled material. Once your bag is full, you just have to easily lift the bag from the lid and cabinet by the handle to take them out to your recycle bin. The Hidden Recycler is currently available for purchase online at Rubbermaid.com and in store at Meijer. Here are a few details about the Hidden Recycler.

Hinged lid attaches to cabinet door with over the door hooks or screws

Bag is made from 65% post-consumer resin

Bag is machine washable

Comfortable handle for transport

5 gallon bag holds 36 uncrushed cans and is large enough to fit 1 gallon milk jugs

Great for single stream recyclers

Great for apartment living

The only problem I found with this product with my cabinets is the door wouldn’t shut all the way. There is nothing unusual about the design of my cabinets so I am not sure what type these would fit right on.

I recently came across The Catalogue App by TheFind.com. It’s a completely free app and new way to browse through all your favorite store catalogs. Right now is it available for iPad, Kindle Fire and Android (large screen) phones. At any time, there are roughly 95 catalog merchants featuring 175-200 issues inside the app including fashion, beauty, home, kids and more.

Unlike traditional catalogs, Catalogue consumers can pull together their own personal favorites from various brands into one location, check local store availability, take a peek at the retailers sale emails and, “using Camera View”, can even see how an item would look in their own home.

Catalogue also features store email that allows the user to obtain the most recent deals and promotions put out by the brand. News and upcoming events are also collated conveniently inside the app. Here the user can find the best deals and discounts without having to clog their regular email account with unwanted spam.

My Findings: The first thing that I didn’t like about this App is that you can’t sort the catalogs at all. I was looking to but them in alphabetical order or by catagory originally. It made it a little more time consuming to sift through all of the catalogs. There is however, a search option that allows you to look for any item really. My boyfriend and I had come up with his daughters birthday present and I was able to plug it into the search box for a bunch of results. What I liked best was it allowed us to look at the prices at multiple places. I love that their are so many options to choose from as far as product. I also used it to find tons of items for my son’s birthday party. It did take me a few minutes to get the swiping and going back a page options down. I kept sending myself back to the home screen of catalogs which was extremely frustrating.

Catalogue also offers a “green” alternative to the classic catalog shopping:

• 5.6 million tons of catalogs and other direct mail advertisements end up in U.S. landfills annually.
• The average American household receives unsolicited junk mail equal to 1.5 trees every year—more than 100 million trees for all U.S. households combined.
• 44 percent of junk mail is thrown away unopened, but only half that much junk mail (22 percent) is recycled.
• Americans pay $370 million annually to dispose of junk mail that doesn’t get recycled.
• On average, Americans spend 8 months opening junk mail in the course of their lives.

I have had some minor issues with some from time to time but mostly I offer nothing but positive things to say. I really don’t even know where to start with this review. I am so ridiculously in love with these boxes! I have “cubby” unit in my living room that holds 18 “bins” total in 3 different sizes. I own so many of the fabric bins that I keep my sons toys organized in and they really just don’t hold up. The boys are constantly pulling the bins out and putting them back in. Most of them come apart at the seams. I have been using the Rubbermaid Bento Storage Boxes for many months now and much to my surprise, (considering all the others I’ve owned) these are still in like new condition!

Typical storage boxes contain your items, but the inside becomes cluttered and makes it difficult to find what you need. Rubbermaid’s Bento collection is designed to organize items, rather than just store them. The Bento Boxes have internal flex dividers, which enable you to divide the space by creating unique sections when needed. Boxes can stack vertically, or fit inside each other. Bento Toppers can act as trays, covers or lids, providing an extra layer of organization for the Bento Boxes, or hiding what’s inside. The Bento Collection is made from sturdy materials, and the heavy-duty decorative fabric enables it to remain out in your social spaces while complementing your home’s décor.

Internal Flex Dividers that can be individually popped open or closed

Toppers act as trays, covers or lids

Same size containers can stack on top of one another

Smaller sizes nest inside larger sizes for space efficient storage when not in use

CARB-certified MDF covered in durable polyester fabric

I use the large one for toys, the rectangle one to keep my spices organized in the cabinet, the lid for this one sits on our entertainment center for remote controls and the little square one holds pencils, pens etc because the internal divider makes 4 sections inside.

If you are in the market for storage boxes of this type, I personally recommend giving these a try. They are a little on the pricey side but when I factor in how much I have spent on other “fabric bins”, these are well worth the month. In this case, you get exactly what you are paying for. They range in price from $9.99 to $26.99 or you can pick up the complete 6 piece set pictured above for $99.49. Most of the time, as new parents, we can not wait introduce our new bundle of joy to all of our friends and family. I have seen parents who will just hand their newborn over to everyone and then there are those who make sure everyone has washed their hands before touching their newest addition. Sometimes exposure to loved ones also means exposure to germs. Young infants are very susceptible to infection in the early weeks of their lives, so contracting something as small as the common cold can present danger. This is especially true for babies born early, because they have underdeveloped lungs and immature immune systems.

One of the biggest threats a newborn faces is a very common virus called respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV. This virus is of special concern because it’s extremely common and spreads very easily. RSV can live on surfaces, such as doorknobs, countertops, toys and bedding for several hours and is often spread through touching, hugging and kissing. Because of this, almost 100% of children contract RSV by their second birthday. In most older children, RSV runs its course with mild symptoms similar to the cold or flu, and most parents don’t even know their child has the virus. But in very young babies, especially preemies and those with certain lung and heart diseases, it can lead to a serious respiratory infection.

Because of these dangers, new parents need to be cautious about exposing infants to visitors. But communicating your concern to family and friends eager to meet your new child can be difficult. It is a struggle to be appreciative of people’s excitement and wary of their contact. As a guest, it is your responsibility to know how to act and prepare for a visit. It is important to remember that babies are susceptible to germs, so physical contact can be risky. Always wash your hands, ask before you touch a baby, and stay away if you have been sick recently.

If the new parents aren’t ready for visitors, remember that their concerns are valid and don’t be offended. There are other ways to show support of families with newborns (e.g., laundry duty or bringing dinner), while respecting the parents’ efforts to keep their baby safe from germs during their first few vulnerable months.

A few tips to remember when a loved one has a new baby:

Call before you visit. New parents need time to set up a routine and bond. By giving them time to do so before you visit, you are respecting the new family.

Postpone a visit if you feel that you may be getting sick, have recently been ill or exposed to illness.

Remember that parents know best. If you feel they are being overprotective or overly cautious, just consider that only they know what’s best for the health of their new son or daughter.

Offer to do something to ease their responsibilities as they spend time as a family, such as laundry, cooking or dishes. Sleep-deprived moms and dads will appreciate your help!

If you smoke, remember that although you are not standing there with a cigarette in your hand, your clothes still hold the scent and germs associated with smoking.

If you do schedule a visit with a new baby:

Wash your hands frequently—upon entering the home and especially prior to holding the baby. Parents, and the new baby, will appreciate it.

Leave toddlers at home, especially during the winter months. Young children, especially if they attend day care or preschool, often carry germs and viruses, like RSV, that are easily spread.

A few facts about RSV that all parents, caregivers and loved ones should know:

Almost every baby will contract RSV by age 2, but only 1/3 of moms say they’ve heard of the virus.

Serious RSV infection is the leading cause of infant hospitalization, responsible for more than 125,000 hospitalizations and up to 500 infant deaths each year.

RSV occurs in epidemics each fall through spring. The CDC has defined “RSV season” as beginning in November and lasting through March for most parts of North America.

There is no treatment for RSV, so it’s important for parents to take preventive steps to help protect their child (e.g., wash hands, toys, bedding frequently; avoid crowds and cigarette smoke).

Certain babies are at an increased risk of developing serious RSV infection, so it’s important to speak with a pediatrician to determine if a baby may be at high risk for RSV, and discuss preventive measures.

Symptoms of serious RSV infection include: persistent coughing or wheezing; rapid, difficult, or gasping breaths; blue color on the lips, mouth, or under the fingernails; high fever; extreme fatigue; and difficulty feeding. Parents should contact a medical professional immediately upon signs of these symptoms.

To learn more about RSV, visit www.rsvprotection.com.

If you haven’t quite found the words to explain why you wish to take extra precautionary measures to keep your baby healthy, the below open letter may be a helpful tool in explaining your situation. Or, if you know of someone who recently had a high-risk baby and is having difficulty finding acceptance and understanding, share this with them and let them know they aren’t alone.

Dear [Loved One],

I know sometimes people think I go to extreme lengths to protect [Baby], and I understand my methods may seem strange. I wanted to send this note to you to give you insight on what life is like when you’re perceived as an “overprotective” parent.

[Baby] was born [prematurely or with X condition], which puts [him/her] at an increased risk of developing a serious infection from many common, seemingly harmless, germs and viruses. For example, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is an extremely common virus that all babies contract by their second birthday. Most infants have the immune system and lung strength to fight off the virus, but in high-risk babies, it can cause a very serious infection. In fact, serious RSV infection is the leading cause of infant hospitalization.

Because [Baby] is so vulnerable to RSV and other illnesses, it’s important to us to avoid exposing [him/her] to these germs. Viruses like RSV are highly contagious and can live for hours on objects like countertops, doorknobs and toys. Frankly, the idea that visitors may unknowingly bring in these dangerous germs is very scary to a new parent!

So I’m asking that you please be patient with me and my precautions to keep [Baby] safe. Please contact me before dropping by for a visit, and know that while I hate turning you away or asking you not to come over, it’s always for a good reason and never personal.

And when we’re eventually ready for visitors, please remember that prevention is key to keeping [Baby] safe.

Please refrain from visiting when you are sick or if you’ve been around someone ill.

Please make sure your clothes are clean and you haven’t smoked or been around smokers recently. Smoke can be very dangerous for underdeveloped lungs.

Let’s wait until [Baby] is strong enough to be introduced to your little one(s), You know I love seeing [him/her], but toddlers and school-aged children are very likely carriers of germs and viruses.

Wash your hands immediately when you come into the house, or sanitize during your visit – this is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs. Wash, wash, wash!

I hope this helps to explain a bit better why I’ve been keeping [Baby] in and, often, visitors out. I appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing [Baby] grow stronger and healthier everyday with your help!

Best,

[Mom]

Whether your celebration is in honor of a birthday, sporting event, holiday or theme party you want to host a memorable event for your guests. How do you spice up your parties and create an event that no one will forget? Farm Rich is bringing some heat to your parties with its popular line-up of frozen snacks and appetizers with the new Queso Cheese Bites – delicious, bite-sized snacks filled with creamy white queso cheese. Now you can enjoy bite-sized snacks at home with a slight ‘kick’ when you can’t get to your favorite Mexican restaurant.

I am a big fan of farm Rich products. I love Mozzarella sticks and believe me, I have tried just about every brand on the market. They are a perfect finger food and everyone loves them! I think most people think Mozzarella Sticks when they think Farm Rich. Those people are missing out! New Farm Rich Queso Cheese Bites are not too hot, not too cool, but just right. These little guys are creamy white, queso-filled, breaded, bite-sized happiness, packin’ just the right amount of heat to perfectly spice up any occasion. They come out of the oven or fryer in just minutes, crisp and toasty on the outside, meltingly tender on the inside, and ready to serve for an after-school snack, party appetizer, or just anytime hunger calls. The wholesome snacks also are a good source of calcium, and each portion contains just 180 calories.
Break out from the boring and classic “Chips and Dip” and put a little fun on your table. Anything involving the kids is always more fun with pigs in a blanket. Just a simple cocktail weenie wrapped in a crescent roll and baked. If I am feeling a little extra “daring” I put a little cheese inside. There is no better way to get together with friends and family than around food. I am Italian and Polish so you can imagine how important food is for entertaining. It is one of the things I missed most when moving into my apartment. (Which is ending soon! YAY!) I haven’t done a themed party in quite some time but they are always so much fun! My son had a Star Wars party one year and it was so much fun! We had everything from Light Saber pretzel rods to blue and green cupcakes. A good time was had by all!
