The nice weather we had yesterday and today reminds me of one of the latest video shoots we did on-location and outside. It was for Andersen windows, shooting the installation of replacement windows. Conditions were great, the sun was shining brightly, the temperature was just right. We even had a nice breeze that would occasionally bring a couple falling leaves into frame for a nice fuzzy, autumnal feeling. We got some great shots of the skilled workers removing the old windows and installing the new, more efficient windows. We brought the camera crane with us to get some shots of the second floor windows and some nice sweeping views of the installation. Check out the videos from a series of installations on our portfolio. I’m excited to think of what the next outdoor shoot will be and hope that conditions will be just as nice.

This is the first week of daylight savings time. It is a tough adjustment, but a welcome one. I am happy to have that extra bit of sunshine at the end of the day that continues to grow longer as the days get warmer. Benjamin Franklin’s original thought behind DST was to make the most of the changing sunrise and sunset times and the corresponding varying amounts of daylight throughout each season. In general, it was just a smart way to make energy usage more efficient.

Efficiency is a key component here at DDA. Our project coordinators and media directors are masters at keeping a sharp eye and smart wit on every project. Each project is a compilation of many different components, that can consist of medical content writing, graphic design, 3d medical illustrations, animated medical graphics, medical video production, medical IT services and medical CME, just to name a few. Each individual detail must all be methodically compiled and organized to achieve a smartly comprehensive, cohesive, and efficient result.

Yesterday, a nice looking package arrived by UPS from a major credit card company name addressed to the CEO. The packaging design had done its job well and with interest piqued, it was promptly opened, but that was where the marketing appeal abruptly ended. Inside was a small plastic container of sand, telling us that time was running out… it went straight in the trash. It had failed its mission to captivate and intrigue us into wanting more.

It could have put some Americans to work, instead of being made in China, it could have been a functional item to keep around and act as a continual reminder to us, but it was not intriguing, not memorable, and not useful. In short, it was a large waste of money that will quickly leave our thoughts… fail.

DDA Medical is a full service advertising agency with the professionalism and the experience to create, initiate and maintain a successful innovative marketing advertising campaign. We offer a full range of services such as cutting edge video advertising, medical animation, digital photography, medical writing services, medical website design, custom medical illustrations, graphic design services, healthcare eLearning and medical IT solutions. And it’s all proudly custom made in America with full back-up and support.

This is me, pretending to be listening to a conversation in a corporate office about us:

“Yes, I’m really happy we selected DDA to build our website because from the initial contact to completion all the staff people were truly professional. It started with a conference call with their business development team, and after we discussed what our company needed, we received a quote. It was very competitive and had some features that the other bids did not have, especially about the importance of SEM to a business.”

Here are some things that stand out about this marketing company.

One. You are assigned a project coordinator who works very closely with you, answers all your questions and makes you comfortable that your budget is respected.

Two. The design team works with your ideas and comes up with more than one concept for you to choose, and it is concepts relevant to your service and product. Their marketing ideas for slogans and tag lines are right on! The illustrations and choice of images help make your pages stand out.

Three. DDA has a Tracking system and if your budget is tight, you can ask often how much time has already been used up, so if you need to make changes, those changes can be meaningful and not arbitrary. You know exactly how much time was spent on different parts of the project.

Four. No voice mail. You can always reach one of the team working on your project. Same thing with email.

Five. DDAers work hard to please their clients, and as a group they are among the brightest and most professional people I have met. Yes, I think we should turn to them again to help us brand this new product. They have the passion and the know-how to create something unique for us.

Does this happen? Yes. Check out our testimonials on the corporate and medical sites.

I saw that Matt’s last blog made mention of people cutting their cable service to instead get their viewing fix from Netflix and the Internet. My family is actually discussing this option as we to try and cut costs. There are plenty of pros and cons, but the bottom line is that cable television is expensive and we need to cut it back. We are thinking of getting a simple digital box to get the basic channels and supplement those with the streaming Netflix movies. Our television doesn’t have the ability for a computer to plug directly into it, so streaming any Internet content won’t be an option yet. We also have TV’s in many rooms, which could pose other problems.

Slowly but surely, the Internet is making cable obsolete. With more and more shows available online for free and the abilities of technology always expanding, it won’t be too long before computers and televisions are one in the same, or at least there will be big screen Internet-equipped TVs that can use the web to its benefit. The Internet has made many things obsolete since its inception and will continue to in the future. The newspaper industry for example has certainly taken a hit with free news available at people’s fingertips now. They have been furiously trying to come up with a new business model to capitalize on their Internet presence.

The new emergence of 3D TVs is an interesting side player. I don’t know of any 3D video streaming on the Internet as of now, but cable does have a few 3D channels to offer. For now, that might be the edge that cable needs to stave off losing a large portion of their customers. Whether the Internet will begin to provide 3D content or not, people are going to need to buy a 3D TV or monitor either way since the current ones can’t display 3D. The poor consumers are going to have a tough time keeping up with technology.

Here we await the new technological advances and changes to know what direction everything is headed and how we might revise our strategies to accommodate any change. Since we are in a technological field, change and evolution is commonplace. We have to constantly hone our skills to fully explore the ever growing list of software and hardware out there and produce the most advanced applications. Whether it’s website design, 3D animation, web video, advanced programming, digital photography, or SEM techniques, we aim to keep our skills up to date and our projects advanced.

Below is a treemap of the top 100 sites on the Internet. A treemap is a method of displaying a large amount of information in a small space to help see patterns in that data.

You can see the full interactive version here

At a glance, you can see search and portal sites are clearly the most traffic part of the Internet.

If we take a closer look at the social media section, we can see that facebook dominates with twitter coming in second. What is very interesting is that myspace is not even listed the top 100 sites anymore.

Here at DDA, we are always looking for the next trend while keeping our feet firmly planted in the reality of business. If you want your company to be relevant in today’s digital world come and pay a visit to DDA and let us become your company to the Internet.

Like with the web and search engine marketing (SEM), these days it’s not enough to just plop a video on your site. A few years ago it may have set you apart from the others, making you look unique and attracting interest because of the novelty effect, but popularity of online video has skyrocketed and now even the smallest of companies can have a site littered with embedded video.

It’s time to think about quality. Like with everything else we do, DDA has a very strategic, custom, and innovative approach to video production, whether it’s a standalone sales or promotional video, website spokesperson, or integrated video testimonials. First, we determine the need. Second, we conceptualize on how to best meet that need. Third, we work with our clients to establish a plan of action for development. And then of course there’s the actual creation, integration, and ultimate success.

Like they say, if you’re going to get in the game, be in it to win it. Choose high-quality integrated video production from a company that can truly help to set you apart from all others.

In my time here at DDA, I’ve noticed that the “eye” for design is much different between what our clients would like and expect and what our graphic designers and team here want and expect. It is common that the client has a vision for what they think a website design, print design, or logo should look like - and that’s great - but there always needs to be a compromise between their vision and the professional designs we provide. Unlike so many marketing companies and website developers, DDA does not believe in using templates or cookie-cutter designs for anything, everything we create here is custom. As a result, everything is a process. We need to create an original design that not only matches the look and feel of your company and creates viewer interest, but is also something that you are ultimately happy with. Upon initial design concepts, we like to provide multiple versions and possibilities to obtain client feedback. The client chooses one they like the best, or they choose two things from different designs they like and we revise to implement those into one design.

In working with a recent design concept, I felt like the client made the best decision for himself. We provided a nice design, but he wanted to push his product a little more and add more imagery and text. We did so, and most of us here felt the design started looking a little too busy, that now there might be too many images involved. The client came back and said pretty much the same thing, so we made some tweaks and simplified it a little more, and now I think the design looks better than it ever did. As I said to the designer, it’s a very nice compromise between our original vision for the site and the client’s vision for the site, and it worked well.

Video and animated flash media is becoming more and more popular on the internet. With addicting video sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu, DailyMotion, and Metacafe (just to name a few), the internet has become an endless supply of entertainment with infinite on-demand choices. I personally know a slew of people who canceled their cable subscription because they were spending more time “watching tv” on their computers. Some also have Netflix accounts which enables them to stream virtually any movie with a click of a button. I have Netflix too and since I have my computer connected to the TV via HDMI, the quality is outstanding. All it takes is placing yourself about 10 feet back and you’ll forget you’re streaming from the internet. It’s no wonder why so many people are online these days!

Below is a graph from Google Data that shows the increase of internet users in the United States since 1990. I was amazed at how the number of internet users sky rocketed from a measly 4.94% to an astonishing 66% within ten years (1994 to 2004, depicted with red lines). The number grew even higher to 72.4% in 2008… a 6% increase in only 4 years. Who knows what it will be like this year.

With this many users endlessly clicking around the internet, it’s good to have a place where they can find you and your company. There are millions of websites floating around in cyberspace and you’ll want one that clearly stands out from the rest. That’s where we come in.
