Philippines became a waterworld because of Typhoon Ondoy

Typhoon Ondoy (International Name: Typhoon Ketsana) has literally swept the Metro Manila area and the neighboring provinces last week (September 26-27) when the typhoon submerged the country into waters. This deadly typhoon also killed almost 300 people and has also damaged P5 billion properties.

Ondoy’s wrath is not the first ever and would probably not the last. Listed below are the most destructive typhoons experienced by the Philippines:

There you have it, the details above sums up the list of the most destructive typhoons in the Philippines to date. I just hope that there will be no more storms but from the looks of it – the Philippine islands will still be likely hit by more storms in the future as the country is located within the typhoon belt of the Western Pacific.

I guess Suri and Shiloh will be forever in the spotlight because they are both born to Hollywood royalties. In fact, Hollywood loves to watch them regularly and every little thing that they do is like a milestone or a national news to many celebrities fanatic.

The latest information below are the perfect example why these tots will be forever attached to the Hollywood paparazzi:

Last Monday was no exception as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ toddler became the Hollywood buzz once again when she was spotted in a pink shirt, three-tiered ruffled skirt and a stylish sparkling-silvery kitten heels shoes while cruising and shopping in Boston.

Many are quite delighted with the chic celebrity kid but then again, her Mom and Dad are being criticised because she was allowed to stroll in a pair of heels.

But hey, aren’t little girls love playing dressing-up once in a while? Maybe this is one of that day for Suri. It’s not like she is wearing kitten heels everyday! Just my honest opinion here.

Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt created a stir too when a lot of people spent tons of time wondering what happened to her front tooth!

The most famous toddler of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was also photographed wearing a camouflage gear and a sword last Wednesday with her mom and siblings Zahara and Pax in Toulon, France last Wednesday while taking a trip to the Toys R Us store. A lot of people seemed to think that the adorable 3 year old is still too young to have lost a tooth. Hmmm, maybe she had a run-in with her brothers or something. Kids are active by this age, right? My son has lost a tooth when he was 3 years old too. So, I think it is okay for her to lost a tooth.

I just don’t understand why a lot of people are wondering if these kids are living a normal life. To tell you honestly, that is not what I am wondering when I saw their photos. I was just thinking:

President Barack Obama delivered his first address to the UN General Assembly today at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

Because no one nation can meet this challenge alone, the United States has also engaged more allies and partners in finding a solution than ever before. In April, we convened the first of what have now been six meetings of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate here in the United States. In Trinidad, I proposed an Energy and Climate Partnership for the Americas.

We’ve worked through the World Bank to promote renewable energy projects and technologies in the developing world. And we have put climate at the top of our diplomatic agenda when it comes to our relationships with countries from China to Brazil; India to Mexico; Africa to Europe.

Taken together, these steps represent an historic recognition on behalf of the American people and their government. We understand the gravity of the climate threat.

We are determined to act. And we will meet our responsibility to future generations.

But though many of our nations have taken bold actions and share in this determination, we did not come here today to celebrate progress. We came because there is so much more progress to be made. We came because there is so much more work to be done.

It is work that will not be easy. As we head towards Copenhagen, there should be no illusions that the hardest part of our journey is in front of us. We seek sweeping but necessary change in the midst of a global recession, where every nation’s most immediate priority is reviving their economy and putting their people back to work. And so all of us will face doubts and difficulties in our own capitals as we try to reach a lasting solution to the climate challenge.

But difficulty is no excuse for complacency. Unease is no excuse for inaction. And we must not allow the perfect to become the enemy of progress. Each of us must do what we can when we can to grow our economies without endangering our planet — and we must all do it together. We must seize the opportunity to make Copenhagen a significant step forward in the global fight against climate change.

We also cannot allow the old divisions that have characterized the climate debate for so many years to block our progress. Yes, the developed nations that caused much of the damage to our climate over the last century still have a responsibility to lead. And we will continue to do so by investing in renewable energy, promoting greater efficiency, and slashing our emissions to reach the targets we set for 2020 and our long-term goal for 2050.

But those rapidly-growing developing nations that will produce nearly all the growth in global carbon emissions in the decades ahead must do their part as well. Some of these nations have already made great strides with the development and deployment of clean energy. Still, they will need to commit to strong measures at home and agree to stand behind those commitments just as the developed nations must stand behind their own. We cannot meet this challenge unless all the largest emitters of greenhouse gas pollution act together.

There is no other way.

We must also energize our efforts to put other developing nations — especially the poorest and most vulnerable on a path to sustainable growth. These nations do not have the same resources to combat climate change as countries like the United States or China do, but they have the most immediate stake in a solution. For these are the nations that are already living with the unfolding effects of a warming planet — famine and drought; disappearing coastal villages and the conflict that arises from scarce resources. Their future is no longer a choice between a growing economy and a cleaner planet, because their survival depends on both. It will do little good to alleviate poverty if you can no longer harvest your crops or find drinkable water. That is why we have a responsibility to provide the financial and technical assistance needed to help these nations adapt to the impacts of climate change and pursue low-carbon development.

What we are seeking, after all, is not simply an agreement to limit greenhouse gas emissions. We seek an agreement that will allow all nations to grow and raise living standards without endangering the planet. By developing and disseminating clean technology and sharing our know-how, we can help developing nations leap-frog dirty energy technologies and reduce dangerous emissions.

As we meet here today, the good news is that after too many years of inaction and denial, there is finally widespread recognition of the urgency of the challenge before us. We know what needs to be done. We know that our planet’s future depends on a global commitment to permanently reduce greenhouse gas pollution. We know that if we put the right rules and incentives in place, we will unleash the creative power of our best scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs to build a better world. And so many nations have already taken the first steps on the journey towards that goal.

But the journey is long. The journey is hard. And we don’t have much time left to make it. It is a journey that will require each of us to persevere through setback, and fight for every inch of progress, even when it comes in fits and starts. So let us begin. For if we are flexible and pragmatic; if we can resolve to work tirelessly in common effort, then we will achieve our common purpose: a world that is safer, cleaner, and healthier than the one we found; and a future that is worthy of our children.

A rumor has been spreading like wildfire that Hollywood actress Jaclyn Smith attempted suicide, while other reports said that Jaclyn Smith was dead. Thankfully, neither of these reports are true.

Apparently, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton picked up the story from a number of Latin American newspapers that had filed erroneous reports. But Jaclyn’s representative – Jay Schwartz told E! News right away that Jaclyn is alive and kicking. He said that:

This is absolutely not true. I just spoke with her today. She is fine and in Los Angeles.

Shwartz also confirmed that it was Jaclyn’s former “Angel” stunt double, Sandra Franklin , who was hospitalized after being shot. Details about the shooting and her condition are sketchy. Some Latin newspapers are saying that she is in critical condition while other say she is recovering.

The “Charlie’s Angel” star also used the Twitter to confirm that she is okay. The Real Jaclyn Smith , who had over 1,000 followers tweeted at 5p.m. Pacific time to ensure that:

Jaclyn is safe and home with her family. She is not in Honduras. It is a lie.

Oh well, I’m just so glad to know this rumor is false.

She is my favorite original Charlie’s Angel, you know.

Hold your horses, “Wowowee” fanatics…

Nacionalista Party Spokesman Gilbert Remulla clarified that ABS-CBN host Willie Revillame was not offered an elective post under NP. He also denied reports that Senator Manuel ‘Manny’ Villar courted Revillame to be his presidential running mate.

In an interview with GMA-7’s morning show “Unang Hirit”, NP Spokesman Gilbert Gilbert Remulla said that:

Not once na pinag-usapan ‘yan. Kaya sa lahat ng nag-titsismis diyan, wala po’ng katotohanan ‘yon (Not once did the party discuss the matter. So to all those spreading those rumors, there is no truth to what you are saying)

Remulla also added that Revillame’s inclusion in the NP’s senatorial lineup is possible. Rumor has it that Villar is willing to include the “Wowowee” host in his party’s senatorial lineup.

Well, if I will be given a chance to speak with Senator Manny Villar and his party, I will advice them to rethink about this matter because:

Willie Revillame’s inclusion will not boost the popularity of your Nacionalista Party, your presidential bid or anything for that matter in the upcoming May 2010 elections. While I agree that Willie is a crowd pleaser, let us all be reminded that a lot of Filipinos can’t still ‘move on’ with the disrespectful comments he said on-the-air while ABS-CBN is giving way to the funeral of President Corazon Aquino.

Have you thought about the reactions of all the people (read: not just the “Wowowee” viewers) if Revillame becomes a senator? Well, making it even a possibility with an ongoing petition will only make me think twice about the purpose.

Absentminded President: $20 Trillion believed to be buried by President Reagan!

It has been reported that nearly $20 trillion in low denomination bills were discovered by the U.S. Government this week in the White House Rose Garden!

The tons of money – sealed in hundreds of old mason jars, crumpled shoe boxes, socks, metal tins and oven mitts were all located by the White House staff. The money is believed to have been stashed away by then 76 year-old President Ronald Reagan during his second term in 1987.

It was indeed a fascinating discovery, but Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee says that:

If President Reagan hid the money there, it was for a good reason…

Perhaps he was creating an anticommunist slush fund. Or perhaps, as one of his notebooks stated, he was hiding it from invisible pirates. Either way, we must not taint this great man’s legacy by spending these precious funds on trifling social programs. If anything, we need to preserve Reagan’s memory by sinking the entire payload into an unviable space-based antimissile system.

Initially, senior officials were puzzled on where the hoard of valuables had come from. However, a framed photo of former first lady Nancy Reagan accompanied by a note which read “Don’t be angry with me, Mommy” — seemed to point to the 40th president.

Here is my take on the story:

The 40th President of the United States must have done it because of his troubling memory. Or perhaps, he have seen the troubling deficit in 1987 that is why he saved all the money!

Hmmm, I just hope the former Presidents of the Philippines hid some money in the Malacanang Palace to save my dear country from the tons of debt!

Meet Gilbert Teodoro: Lakas Presidential Bet for 2010

In a sudden turn of events, the ruling party Lakas-Kampi-CMD has anointed Defense Secretary Gilbert ‘Gibo’ Teodoro over Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando last Wednesday, September 16. Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita also announced that the administration party selected Local Government Ronaldo Puno as their vice-presidential bet for the coming May 2010 election. The selection process was made by its 65-member national executive committee wherein Teodoro got a landslide vote of 42 against Fernando. The MMDA chairman only got 5 votes.

Now, people like me are wondering why the ruling party picked this guy over the ‘popular’ Fernando. Listed below are some interesting information about this presidential aspirant:

Gilberto Eduardo Gerardo ‘Gilbert’ ‘Gibo’ Cojuangco Teodoro Jr. is the current Secretary of National Defense of the Philippines. He assumed the position since August 2007. He was also a former member of the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2007 representing the first district of Tarlac province.

Teodoro spent his primary and secondary school years in Xavier School and completed his bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the De La Salle University in 1984. He finished his law studies at the University of the Philippines in 1989 and topped the Philippine Bar Examinations in the same year. Then, right after he worked as a lawyer in the EP Mendoza EP Mendoza Law Firm for seven years, Gibo went to the Harvard Law School for his Master of Laws and completed the course in 1997. He was also admitted to the State Bar of New York during the same year.

Teodoro is no stranger to politics as he was a member of a famous political clan in the Philippines. He is the only child of the former Social Security Administrator Gilberto Teodoro Sr. and former Batasang Pambansa member Mercedes Cojuangco-Teodoro. Interestingly, Gibo and Noynoy Aquino are relatives as Gibo’s mom Mercedes and former President Corazon ‘Cory’ Cojuangco Aquino were first cousins. Gibo also seems to be favored in the political arena as he belongs to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s trusted inner circle and have a strong political support from his very wealthy uncle – former presidential aspirant Eduardo ‘Danding’ Cojuangco Jr., chairman of San Miguel Corporation and was a close advisor of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

But personally, I have a lot of questions on why he was picked over Bayani Fernando:

I find the selection a surprise as Teodoro was never a frontrunner in the SWS survey even before Noynoy declared his presidential bid. As far as winnability is concern, the chances are nil. So why him over Bayani?
I am not a Bayani Fernando supporter but Fernando is qualified too and more popular than Teodoro since the beginning of the selection. In fact, only a few from the so-called ‘masa’ literally know this guy and when I say a few – maybe we are talking about the .2 percent of the Filipino people. Please do the math.
And lastly, people would agree that Noynoy and Gibo have the same excellent pedigree but the similarity ends there. Why? Gibo will always be associated with the Arroyo government and has this inclination to continue the Arroyo’s ‘legacy’. So, in a nutshell, Arroyo will still be a boss to him.

Hmmm, with all the questions I raised above – I can only say that:

I want to hear him ‘sincerely’ talking about his agenda on the current situation of the Philippines. Like, on how he will deal with the poverty rate, unemployment and the rampant corruption in the government. By then, I can truly agree with the press release that he has ‘more substance and heart to win’ than Noynoy.

To be honest, mas marami pa kasi siyang dapat patunayan because the bottomline of being a President is to serve the people of the Philippines and not just the few – yan kasi ang nakikita kong wala sa ‘aura’ ni Gibo.

Just my two cents here.
