Leading the collection is Moon Blossom, a stylized floral print that originated from a French Document. The original painting is believed to have been created by a member of the William Morris guild, which spearheaded the Arts & Crafts movement in England. The document features sparrows and pheasants singing to one another from tulip and flowering tree branches. The floating floral islands were expanded and the birds removed to create an all-over floral that is both modern and timeless. Kips Bay Decorator Show House is one of NYC’s spring highlights for interior design. Featuring nationally renowned interior designers, this show house brings to life many of the trends that we at DecoratorsBest have been discussing for the past few months.

Most of this year’s townhouse rooms were small and in poor condition before the designers waved their magic wands! Pushing their creative energies to the max, these ingenious decorators highlighted their talents by creating unique ceiling and wall treatments to conceal cracks and flaws. We particularly enjoyed seeing the myriad of details that give these rooms their extra-special finished and professional look. Check them out:

Soft Grays

Muted gray tones featured on sofas, wallcoverings and billowy drapery softened the tailored decor.

Color-Blocking & Metallic Influences

Color-blocking, this spring’s big trend, was prevalent in many of the rooms. Metallic influences, particularly in ’70s-inspired coffee tables and lamps, added sheen to the darker rooms.

Layers of luxurious fabrics added warmth and character to several rooms. This look was in direct contrast to many of the other streamlined spaces.

Great Gatsby Decor

There has been tons of buzz around the new Great Gatsby movie, which opens tomorrow, May 10th! Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Jazz Age novel about love and ambition, the movie features the glamorous Art Deco style. The film’s director, Baz Luhrman, teamed up with his wife, designer Catherine Martin, to create the elaborate sets. Here’s a sneak peak at the decor from the movie set:

Gatsby’s Ballroom

Gatsby’s massive ballroom, which is probably the grandest room created for the movie, is filled with ornate elements like inlaid wood floors, glistening marble walls, pendant chandeliers, and sky-high windows dressed in sheer drapery. Silver candelabras scattered around the perimeter of the room set a romantic mood. Martin envisioned that the snaking staircase did not come with the mansion, but that Gatsby had it installed himself. “We talked about somebody coming in with a lot of money and what changes he would make to certain rooms,” Martin said.
