This shot was taken at Murugan Idli Shop in Singapore. They make the best idlis that I have ever tasted.

I thought that a B&W version of the composition would enhance the look of the white Idlis and bring out the texture on their surface better.

One of the things about living in Singapore is that you do not see many old vehicles because of the goverment’s COE policy. This was taken in Cameron Highlands where I noticed an unusually large number of old dilapidated trucks like this one in vibrant colors.

I can’t seem to get enough of the clouds outside my apartment. This was taken just after a rain and the sun barely peeking out behind the clouds.

This is also one of the first photographs taken with a Panasonic Lumix LX3 camera, which I temporarily own for a month, before I pass it on to my sister.

I did not compose this shot by looking at the viewfinder . Set the lens at the wide-angle end, left the aperture wide open, held the camera in both my hands, bent down while still standing and just clicked.

It’s 12 noon, and the mid-day rush at Grand Sweets and Snacks has begun. Kids tagging along with their thatas and paatis, office-goers talking into their cell phones while they wait for pakodam to carry back to work, women shopping for podis and thokku for their households, NRIs in shorts and baseball caps, and a couple of vadhiyaars— a microcosm of Chennai humanity streams into the covered compound.
They begin to crowd the counters manned (or rather ‘woman-ed’; almost all the sales people are women) by 35 to 40 uniform-clad people. The founder of the store, G. Natrajan, chose to employ mostly women back in 1982, and that still remains the case. “He believed that women are more responsible, and devoted,” explains Mahesh, the current proprietor.

In India, people still consume soft drinks in glass bottles which are then sent for refilling to the bottling plant. In the photo, apart from the usual suspects, you can see Kinley, Maaza and Limca which are Indian brands.

One morning I woke up to find the sky was this weird charcoal color which I rarely see.

This also happens to be the first photo I processed using Lightroom. For this I just used a simple Strong Contrast filter

This was taken at Esplanade Walk in Georgetown, Penang. In the evening this place was filled with all kinds of people – backpackers, couples, kids, people selling toys and bubble guns etc.

I was trying manual focus for the first time to capture the bubble in focus.
