BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS PART ONE 1ST CLIP

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Tue, 28 Aug 2012 23:52:00 +0000

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 is the first in a two-part direct-to-video animated adaptation of the 1986 story of the same name that was written by Frank Miller. The film is being produced by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation, and Warner Home Video. It will premiere in New York on September 20th, 2012, and in L.A. on September 24th, and will be available to the public to purchase on September 25th, 2012.

In the bleak and ominous future of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1, it’s been a decade since Bruce Wayne hung up his cape, following most of the other superheroes who had been forced into retirement. Facing the downside of middle age, a restless Bruce Wayne pacifies his frustration with racecars and liquor – but the Bat still beckons as he watches his city fall prey to gangs of barbaric criminals known as The Mutants.

The return of Harvey Dent as Two-Face finally prompts Wayne to once again don the Dark Knight’s cowl, and his dramatic capture of the villain returns him to crime-fighting – simultaneously making him the target of law enforcement and the new hope for a desolate Gotham City. Particularly inspired is a teenage girl named Carrie, who adopts the persona of Robin and ultimately saves Batman from a brutal attack by the Mutant leader. Armed with a new sidekick, and re-energized with a definitive purpose, the Dark Knight returns to protect Gotham from foes new … and old.

The Blu-ray combo pack of the film will have over 2 hours of bonus content including:

• Standard and high definition versions of the feature film
• UltraViolet™
• Sneak Peak at Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2, the next DC Universe Animated Original Movie
• Featurette – “Her Name is Carrie … Her Role is Robin” – An all-new featurette. Experience the role of Robin, through the eyes of a female warrior.
• Featurette – “Batman and Me: The Bob Kane Story” – A documentary comprehensively chronicling the remarkable life of the creator of Batman.
• Two bonus episodes from Batman: The Animated Series handpicked by producer Alan Burnett: Two-Face, Parts 1 and 2
• Digital Comic – “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns” (digital comic with cover art and three full comic pages)

BALTIMORE'S 'BATMAN' JUST WANTS TO HELP SICK KIDS

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Fri, 24 Aug 2012 19:19:00 +0000

BALTIMORE, Maryland — Batman, the comic book superhero, stalks the night saving Gotham from villains, but Baltimore's Caped Crusader just wants sick kids to feel better -- a mission undeterred by last month's deadly shooting at a screening of the fictional hero's latest movie.

Clad in a heavy leather and neoprene Batsuit, the Baltimore man drove up on a recent day to the orthopedic wing of the east coast city's Sinai hospital in a slick Batmobile -- a perfect replica of the Hollywood one.

Excitement bubbled over just inside the entrance, where kids in wheelchairs, parents and medical personnel were eagerly watching the Dark Knight arrive.

In a game room set up for the special visit, a cardboard replica of Batman stood amid piles of Batman-themed crayon boxes, t-shirts, glasses, and necklaces made of bats.

The man behind the costume is Lenny Robinson, 48, a tall, muscular father of three adult children.
For the last 11 years, the wealthy former businessman has dedicated himself to these visits, bringing gifts and a bit of fun to the young hospital patients.

This day, Batman approached 6-year-old Farrah, whose legs were supported by metal braces.

"Farrah, do me a favor," Batman said, leaning towards the shy little girl, before whispering in her ear.

"I never ask kids how they are," Robinson later explained to AFP.

"I say hi, it's nice to meet you, and I give them a present," he said.

Then he tells them to "do Batman a favor: get better. That will make me very happy."

Robinson took up the Batman mantle at the inspiration of his son, who, he said, was "obsessed by Batman."

Robinson inherited the obsession, and then transformed it, ultimately organizing his efforts into a charity: superheroesforkids.org.

He doesn't get paid for his appearances, which average twice a month. Instead he spends some $60,000 (48,159 euros) a year from his own pocket on gifts for the kids. And he spent another $215,000 this year on a new Batmobile, which he donated to the foundation.

Robinson, who sold his commercial cleaning business to great profit in 2007, said he has plenty of time and money for the job.

"I swim, go on vacation, and go be Batman," he smiled. "It's a full time job."

"When the kids know he's coming, there is excitement," said John Herzenberg, head doctor at Sinai hospital's orthopedic wing.

"Anything to divert their attention from their troubles and the pain they are having is a good thing."

-- The caring, polite side of Batman --

Robinson has earned local stardom in his hometown, and his fame only grew last spring when, dressed as the masked vigilante, his Batmobile was pulled over by police.

Officers stopped him because the car -- an earlier version of the Batmobile that was really a decked out Lamborghini -- wasn't displaying its license plates. In their place was the bat symbol.

The police thought they were pulling over "some rich dude in a freaking Batman outfit" who thought he didn't have to follow the rules, Robinson laughed.

Then they realized that Robinson had the real plates in the car -- and that he was on a superhero mission to visit a local hospital.

A video of the incident went viral on the web.

But his mission suffered more of a setback last month, when a gunman massacred 12 people and wounded dozens more in a Colorado movie theater, on opening night of the latest installment of the "Dark Knight" trilogy.

Two hospitals immediately cancelled their long-planned dates with the Winged Avenger.

"The timing was unfortunate for Mr. Robinson's visit, as it was scheduled just three days after the shooting," a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Children's hospital in Missouri, told AFP.

"We felt our patients -- and their families -- needed some time and distance from those images," she explained, adding the hospital planned to reschedule the visit.

"I understand and respect the hospital's decision," said Robinson. "The last thing I want to do is to upset (the children). That would be the opposite of what I want to do."

Despite the shooting, Baltimore's Batman remains in high demand across the US -- with upcoming stops scheduled for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and New York. Even European hospitals have requested a visit.

Robinson, who at times adopts the voice of the children's cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants to avoid scaring the littlest patients, says, unlike the comic book hero, his Batman has no connection to violence.

"I'm the comical, funny, caring, polite, respectful side of Batman," he insisted.

BATMAN'S NEW PERCH ABOVE GOTHAM: YOUR IPAD

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Thu, 23 Aug 2012 16:29:00 +0000

From the shadows, Batman swoops down and lands on your iPad to fight a gang of thugs. But fear not! He’ll throw a lot of punches, but he won’t scratch your screen.

Hoping to bridge the gap between physical and digital toys, Mattel has created a line of enhanced iPad games called Apptivity. One of the first offerings in the line is Batman, inspired by the movie “The Dark Knight Rises.”

The starter kit, which sells for $20, comes with two toys, the caped crusader and his Bat flight vehicle, which use pressure-sensitive technology to interact with a downloadable game. The toys attach to a base that glides over the iPad screen without leaving a mark.

The game, intended for ages 4 and up, has nine levels in which Batman tangles with Catwoman and Bane, the villains from the movie, and roving gangs in Gotham City. In a nice visual twist, the characters appear as squat, chunky toys, similar to Batman.

The levels are only mildly challenging, but the graphics and sound are surprisingly good. After each level is completed, players can use accumulated points to build Batman’s arsenal. There’s also a quick mode that allows finger play, but I found it easier to use the toys.

Three other Batman figures are available for the game, each with its own mode of attack. But you can also upgrade the figure that comes in the starter set and get those same attack modes.

Apptivity games were also created for Mattel’s Hot Wheels and WWE Rumblers toy lines, as well as toys that unlock exclusive features for existing Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja and Cut the Rope games. For instance, using the King Pig figure with the Angry Birds game, players can turn the tables on the birds and fire the pigs instead.

Of course, the real question is whether any toys are necessary on a device that typically relies on the swipe of a finger for gameplay. Sure, you can use your finger to play other games, but then you won’t have a cool Batman toy to play with when you’re done.

Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez said, “I write in a very conceptual format with the stories that surround Coheed and Cambria, but Batman has a much larger, defined history and rules that go along with it. 2. Coheed and Cambria - Deranged
3. The Duke Spirit - Creature
4. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Shadow On The Run

FIRST LOOK AT BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY ROBIN SKINS

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Tue, 23 Aug 2011 00:39:00 +0000

The folks at Arkhamcity.co.uk have discovered three playable skins that will be included with Robin's Challenge Maps, which will be made available exclusively through Best Buy as a pre-order incentive. (The content will be available for download on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network shortly following the game's launch, however.) These three skins include the dark-hooded Robin that was first unveiled weeks ago, along with a special Red Robin costume and, much to the surprise of nostalgic fans, the outfit worn by Dick Grayson in "Batman: The Animated Series."

Though Robin will not be playable in "Batman: Arkham City's" campaign mode, he'll have plenty to do in his Challenge Maps, as he sneaks around and dispatches of enemies using items in his utility belt, his bo staff and his hand-to-hand combat skills.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES: CHRISTOPHER NOLAN SAYS "THANK YOU" TO PITTSBURGH!

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Mon, 22 Aug 2011 01:28:00 +0000

"The Dark Knight Rises" has been unlike any movie that has shot in Pittsburgh in the past two decades and that includes the way it's going out.

The production took out a full-page ad in the Post-Gazette today to say, "Thank You Pittsburgh."
It's a variation of the movie's teaser poster which shows a crumbling cityscape with a burst of light at the top in the form of a bat.

The ad is signed by producers Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Charles Roven along with Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures. Nolan is also the director and co-writer of the movie starring Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.

In the 21-year history of the Pittsburgh Film Office (and likely stretching to George A. Romero's earliest days), no production has ever done anything so classy and thoughtful.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES: CLOSE UP OF BANE & TUMBLER VIDEO

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Sat, 20 Aug 2011 19:32:00 +0000

Comicbookmovie.com posted some great close ups of Bane of what looks to be the day they shot footage at Heinz Field.

These images really give us a fantastic look at Banes (played by Tom Hardy) costume.

We also have a YouTube clip of one of the Tumblers falling into and exploded hole in the street during the Pittsburgh chase shoots.

On a side note when we were there we saw a road crew digging this hole but had no idea this was going to be used for the movie, enjoy the clip brought to you by firefighter1816.

BATWING HITS A SIGN ON THE PITTSBURGH SET OF THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (VIDEO)

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Wed, 17 Aug 2011 22:38:00 +0000

I know this is a bit of older news but I wanted to touch on it. On Saturday 8/13 my family and I traveled to Pittsburgh in hopes of catching some the shooting of 'THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' which in my previous post we were fortunate to catch quite a bit actually, but shortly after we left the film crew suffered a mishap. While shooting one of the chase scenes the "Batwing" hit a traffic sign and a piece breaks loose. Fortunately no one was hurt and after an hour the crew was able to fix the damage. The following is a YouTube video of the incident posted by jakenoire.

NEW BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY TRAILER INTRODUCES MR. FREEZE!

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Tue, 16 Aug 2011 00:06:00 +0000

Dr. Victor Fries was a brilliant cryogenics expert whose life took a cruel twist that would see him dedicate his life to avenging the fate of his beloved wife Nora and becoming an archenemy of Batman. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today released a new video revealing Mr. Freeze in his role in the upcoming Batman: Arkham City videogame.

Published by Warner Bros. Interactive and developed by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham City will be available beginning Oct. 18 in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City – five times larger than the game world in Batman: Arkham Asylum – and the new maximum security "home" for all of Gotham City's thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds. Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new, all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.

A VISIT TO GOTHAM - THE PITTSBURGH FILM SET

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Mon, 15 Aug 2011 02:04:00 +0000

My family and I decided to pick a Saturday in August and go to Pittsburgh and see if we could see any of the filming action in progress.

We chose August 13th though to our dismay weather was calling for some rain showers in our town and we live only two hours away from Pittsburgh and feared anything that might have been filmed might be rained out but we were in luck.

We got to Pittsburgh around 12:00 found a downtown parking garage and set out on foot. Cell phones, cameras and ipods in hand and being the tech geek I am I even had my army messenger bag strapped across my shoulder with my Motorola Xoom stowed in it in case I needed another camera source. (and yes I wore my grey Batman t-shirt with the black bat scrawled across the chest and so did my son, We both blended in well, these guys couldn't be here for the Batman film right? lol)

I would also like to say that a lot of these shots and videos come to you by the great work of my wife and daughter who would automatically snap the pics as I was on a bit of a fan-boy mesmerized stupor by the scope of what I was able to see, lol.

Lunchtime for the crew and the vehicles were parked.

Safety first! This guy checked the Tumblers tire pressure.

The dining facility for the production crew w/ air conditioning!

Everyone in Pittsburgh has become a Batman fan!

ANNE HATHAWAY RESPONDS TO 'DARK KNIGHT RISES' CATWOMAN REACTION

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Tue, 09 Aug 2011 23:52:00 +0000

It was the photo that launched a thousand blog posts, tweets and message-board debates. Last week, the Web was ablaze when Warner Bros. released the first photo of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle in "The Dark Knight Rises."

MTV News was immediately on the case, offering up our own analysis, as well as thoughts from a few experts on what the photo of Hathaway in costume, riding what looked to be Batman's motorcycle, meant for the character and her assumed transformation into Catwoman.

Now, in knowing how tight-lipped the "Dark Knight Rises" stars are sworn to be about the films, when we caught up with Hathaway as she promoted the upcoming movie "One Day," we didn't expect her to offer any commentary about the photo — but she surprised us.

"I was not going to admit it: I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo]," she said. "And I happen to know that MTV's reaction was 'meh.' "

Now, we're not sure about the "meh" quote, but we will admit to using the phrases "cautiously optimistic," "unflattering" and "underwhelming" in our analysis.

Regardless, Hathaway said that no matter the first impressions, there is a lot more happening with that suit.

"What I am happy to say is, if you didn't like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do," she promised. "And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste."

“IT’S A RUN I COULDN’T BE PROUDER OF.” – SCOTT SNYDER

noreply@blogger.com (Dave C.) — Tue, 09 Aug 2011 03:51:00 +0000

By Alex Nagorski

In the gripping final issue of Scott Snyder, Jock, and Francesco Francavilla’s critically acclaimed run on DETECTIVE COMICS, all bets are off. We caught up with series writer Scott Snyder to discuss the epic finale and what the experience of working on this book has been like for him.

“881. I can’t believe we’re here… The end of our 11-issue run. It’s so strange,” series writer Scott Snyder told us. “It was literally a year ago, at San Diego Comic Con 2010 that -after introducing myself on the phone a week earlier- I tracked Jock down in person (I’d never met him) and told him how I thought he’d be perfect for the run. He suggested we talk story and we headed to a bar near the convention center with Dave Baron (our great colorist). I explained the entire run to them both: this notion of Gotham being a Black Mirror to its heroes, the inclusion of James Jr. and the Joker finale. Jock and Dave Baron couldn’t have been cooler or more enthusiastic about the ideas and the story. I, for one, was so excited I went back to my hotel room, typed an email to Mike Marts (our editor) that said “I had a great meeting with Jock and Dave B. I think they’re in!”

As for Francesco Francavilla, I knew he was perfect for the Jim Gordon parts of the story and so I pushed him hard to Mike Marts. Mike (being the great editor he is) was receptive, but Francesco was also less of a known quantity a year ago, and so he asked to see some pages. In response, Francesco sent this:

And the rest is history.

Anyway, from that suspicious start came our “Black Mirror” run. And it’s a run I couldn’t be prouder of. It’s about something that’s at the core of my love of Batman – Gotham, and the way it generates nightmares for Batman and his allies: the way it creates villains and events that speak to their personal greatest fears, trying them by some kind of holy fire over and over again. And more than this, I’m proud of the work my teammates on this book have done. We’ve all become friends over the past year, and it’s been a joy and a constant inspiration working with these guys. They worked around the clock for double ships, they did covers, they did everything and then some – because they believed in the story, and I can truly say this is our book, something we made as a team, in contact and collaborating every step of the way, and so I want to thank them – Jock, Francesco Francavilla, Dave Baron, and Jared Fletcher too.

But most of all, I – and we – want to say thanks to you, the fans. The comments and reviews and discussions we’ve gotten from you have been an inspiration to us all. For those if you who’ve been there with us from the start – thanks for taking this journey down the dark, and twisted rabbit hole with us. And for those of you just now picking us up, thanks for giving us a chance. The truth is, we’re Batman- super-fans, too, and just hearing that you think we did Batman (whether Dick or Bruce) justice, means the world to all of us. Can’t thank you enough. This has been a dream from true for all of us. Now, to our crazy finale!

Jim Gordon’s estranged son, James Jr. has poisoned his mother, framed the Joker, all to get to his half-sister, Barbara (Oracle). At the end of the last issue, he attacked her, and now, at the start of this issue, no one knows where he has taken her. All they know is that they’re dealing with someone very deadly. And that they’re running out of time. So, to Gotham!”

DETECTIVE COMICS #881, the follow up to the sold out DETECTIVE COMICS #880, goes on sale this Wednesday.
