Vans Classics Fall 2013: Inca Pack

Vans Classics introduces the Inca pack featuring the Era, Half Cab and Sk8-Hi. Inspired by South American textile art, the pack is characterized by two Inca-styled patterns which adorn the footwear assortment for a total of six colorways. Intricate embroidery carries bright geometric shapes over each edition of the Era as the Half Cab and Sk8-Hi are further embellished with premium suede. The Inca pack arrives in two deliveries; the Era in (Inca) Blue/Black, Half Cab in (Suede/Inca) Adobe and Sk8-Hi in (Suede/Inca) True Blue varieties are available now at select Vans retailers while the rest of the collection releases in early July. Thomas Prior is probably one of my current favorite photographers the last few years or so. He always finds some unique topics to photograph and has a great eye to boot. This new project titled “Tultepec” covers the annual National Pyrotechnic Festival in Mexico. Amazing to say the least.

My good friend Nicholas Maggio (who after a small hiatus, has been back to doing a bunch of posts on his site atimetoget.com) sent me a text with a photo of a Ray K. Metzker book and the words “buy this right now”. So I did what any like minded person would do… Went to google images and drug a bunch of photos to my desktop. I love that the Albion dudes dropped this video to coincide with the online version of issue 9, as the “Live Free or Die” article with Clint Reynolds (and crew) is one of my favorites. Clint is such a rad, inspiring dude and this article brought all that to life.

I always love nerding out about camera gear and while I was doing research on the Think Tank roller bags, I stumbled across this video with photographer David Burnett sharing the contents of his camera bag. He has a great selection of digital and film cameras and I love how the photos that he’s shot with each camera as he is talking about them. It’s a bit lengthy, but definitely worth the watch!

We’ve written down 100 random questions and assorted topics, all of which are unbeknownst to our victims. We will be asking people to pick 20 random numbers from 1-100 and then supplying them with those questions/topics to answer. Who knows what might come up!?!?!

Yesterday – breakfast lunch and dinner?

-Breakfast: a banana and a coffee in the airport lounge
-Lunch: Oatmeal
-Dinner: A lamb sausage, sweet potato tots and a couple beers (with Harrison Boyce, Andrew Brady and Tim Burkhart) A nice “welcome back” to Chicago meal since I was in China for the past week.

What would you be doing professionally right now if you weren’t doing what you are?

I’m not sure exactly what I would be doing. Probably something to do with my business degree from college. I guarantee whatever I’d be doing I’d love it though. I usually don’t settle for things I don’t love doing.

Best halloween costume you have worn?

I think “cowchinsky” was pretty good. (a cow outfit complete with an empty milk jug which I filled with other beverages the entire night)

-Forrest Gump (the dude did everything casually and stayed humble despite several accomplishments throughout his life)

What has been an “ahh-ha! ” moment in your life?

My first time to Europe. It was a huge eye opener. There’s a huge world out there to learn about and explore.

What keeps you awake at night?

This interview is keeping me awake right now. It’s Friday night at 11:30pm and I keep getting texts from friends to go out but I think the sense of urgency to party on the weekends isn’t as intense as other people’s because I don’t live for the weekend. With my job I can party on a random Tuesday night if I really want to. I feel so fortunate to do what I do. I can party on Friday night when I’m old and can’t ride anymore. That’s not to say I don’t party or have fun, I just keep a limiter on it. I love what I do and am happy, no need to wash away the week. It is fun to do sometimes though. Balance is key.

What could we find in your refrigerator right now?

Various types of hot sauce, almond milk, coconut water (thanks Zico), Redbull (Thanks Redbull), Sriracha, hummus, shrimp, eggs, kale, tortillas, beer, carrots and some other good stuff.

What would the title be of your autobiography?

“Live and learn but never forget to laugh”

Tell us something people don’t really know about you…

I was horrible at BMX when I first started riding. I had very little “natural talent”. That’s what drew me into it.

What are you most proud of?

The amazing people I’ve met and am constantly inspired by.

Both, I like to make sure I’m clean and smelling decent.

What is the most random thing you have written off on your taxes?

Band-aids

When you travel, do you tend to travel light or over pack?

I think I have it down just perfect but underpacking is always a learning experience though. It makes you realize that you don’t really need much to get by.

How many apps do you have on your iPhone?

About 35.

Do you have a preferred method for preparing your coffee?

Coffee maker. Thanks Kevin Porter for always keeping me stocked with Chicago’s finest locally roasted coffee.

What was the last thing you bought?

A pack of gum. I love gum.

What was the last thing you watched online?

An instructional video on applying for a Russia visa. I’ve done it before but forgot a few steps…needed a refresher course.
