Is your camera collecting dust instead of images? Then you need some inspiration! Today we bring you a wonderful collection of beautiful landscape photographs from around the world.

I hope these images will be enough to get you moving, just don’t forget that “a crucial element of landscape photography is the light to the scenery. Preferred times are dusk or dawn with low angle light which renders the landscape with low contrast and sidelight. This light adds a feeling of depth to the picture and the low contrast usually is beneficial for the picture as there are no harsh contrasts and the very details can be captured.”^[1]

Irina Werning, a photographer born in Buenos Aires, is working on an interesting project called “Back to The Future” where she takes someone’s old photo and recreates the same old scene with the same person many years later. While technically it doesn’t sound too complicated, she is unbelievably accurate. It seems that she just found some old and young look-alikes and shot two pictures on the same day.

“I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future..by the way, this project made me realise I’m a bit obsessive…”

Anamorphic Illusions by Felice Varini

Swiss artist Felice Varini creates amazing anamorphic illusions using an eye-deceiving technique called anamorphosis. The complete shapes are only seen when viewed at certain angles, otherwise the viewer only sees some random broken pieces.

Over the course of 30+ years, Varini has created many great optical illusions including some remarkable ones like “Cercle et suite d’éclats” where the artist took on the challenge of working at the scale of the village, superimposing perfect circles on the town of Vercorin in the Swiss Alps. You’ll find it at the end of the article.

Don’t know about you guys, but I wouldn’t mind if some vandals broke into my flat and painted the walls like that.

Anatomical Cross-Sections Made of Rolled Paper by Lisa Nilsson

Lisa Nilsson, a Rhode Island School of Design graduate, creates marvelous anatomical cross sections of the human body by rolling pieces of Japanese mulberry paper. The technique used in her Tissue Series is called paper filigree or quilling. The artist says that she had been aware of quilling growing up in the 70s, but hadn’t considered it as part of her art making vocabulary until seeing a religious reliquary in an antique store. Lisa’s interest in quilling is mainly in its compatibility with what she sees in anatomical cross sections.

This is the story that inspired Jungyun Yoon to make ‘Inner message’, a ring with hidden letters on the inside.

Skirting Board Sunset by Helmut Smits

If you like sunsets, then why not bring one back home? Helmut Smits created a beautiful Skirting Board Sunset lamp which can beautifully light your way to the bathroom or kitchen without disturbing other family members. On your way back, you can even sit and watch the sunset for a while.

It’s simple and cool idea, however I’m afraid it works better in photos than in real life. Only a mouse or a crawling baby would see the Sunset lamp at the correct angle. What do you think?
