Australian hyperrealist Ron Mueck, currently based in London, continues creating gigantic human sculptures and is now back with three new ones that will be on exposition in Paris at the Fondation Cartier through September 29. Mueck stays consistent with his style, capturing such intimate expressions on the faces of his sculptures that they become incredibly relatable, despite their unrealistic seizes. “I never made life-size figures because it never seemed to be interesting. We meet life-size people every day,” says the artist.

It sounds unbelievable, but all these sculptures by American artist Tom Eckert are actually carved out of wood! Tom mostly works with basswood, linden and limewood and uses traditional techniques to carve, construct, laminate and paint his artwork. The most beautiful and recurring detail about them is the draped cloth, which Tom sees as an element that adds mystery to his work: “Covered forms are often more evocative – with a sense of mystery absent from the uncovered object by itself,” he says. Japanese artist Kazuki Yamamoto will take your coffee experience to a new level with his impressive latte foam art. While drawing flat images on the foam may not sound new to you, this 26-year-old specializes in building actual 3D foam sculptures, some of which even climb out of their cups and reach out for others. So far Kazuki has been treating the clients of Cafe10g in Osaka with his adorable creations, but the guy dreams of opening his own cafe in Tokyo one day.

Hungarian photographer Flora Borsi invites us to imagine what the models of classic paintings would’ve looked like if they had been real people. Creating her ‘Real Life Models’ series, 19-year-old artist cleverly used her photo manipulation skills to bring some pretty exaggerated and distorted features to life. As a result, you get some pretty funny speculations of what the people from Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Rudolf Hausner and Kees van Dongen’s paintings would look like. “Some artists use pure imagination to paint their artworks, others may prefer to create art by using a real life model as reference for the anatomy. What if these abstract models were real people?” asks Flora.

Self-taught photographer Bill Gekas makes gorgeous portraits of his 5-year-old daughter, posing as the mini version of classic paintings by such artist like Rembrandt, Raphael, Caravaggio, Velazquez or Vermeer. Melbourne-based artist says that the creation of one shot like this typically takes around 8 hours, as there is much preparation to be done before hand. “The key to executing a shoot like this is to have it all planned before the subject enters the scene, the lighting, props, composition etc,” says Bill. Besides the detailed set up, the little girl seems to be such a natural you almost forget it’s not an authentic illustration you’re looking at!

Celebrating her daughter Emma’s 5th birthday, photographer Jaime Moore went against the mainstream Disney princess’ idea and dressed Emma as 5 historic and inspirational women: Coco Chanel, Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Earhart, Helen Keller and Jane Goodall. Jaime felt that her daughter should learn about real women, who in one way or another had changed women’s lives for better: “I wanted her to know the value of these amazing women who had gone against everything so she can now have everything. So let’s set aside the Barbie Dolls and the Disney Princesses for just a moment, and let’s show our girls the REAL women they can be,” explained Jaime.

Jaime already has a good company among parents who get creative with their kids portraits – you probably remember Jason Lee and Dave Engledow, two of the world’s craziest dads.

Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio set out to explore just how diverse the eating habits around the globe are, and published a photo album with their discoveries, called the Hungry Planet. The authors visited 30 families in 24 countries, each time photographing them at home, shopping at the market and surrounded by their weekly food purchases. Over 600 meals in countries from Chad to China reveal completely different stories: while some families don’t go without 6 gallons of Coca-Cola a week, others got to hunt down a seal to feed their kids. Tippi of Africa: Girl Who Grew Up With Wild Animals

Tippi Degre had the kind of childhood that sounds more like an episode from the Mowgli than a real story: born in Africa to French wildlife photographer parents, the little girl spent her days playing with such animals as a five-ton elephant, a cheetah, lion cubs and many others.

“I don’t have friends here. Because I never see children. So the animals are my friends,” she once said.

Her parents, Sylvie Robert and Alain Degre, documented Tippi’s childhood in a book called Tippi of Africa. You can tell that the little girl felt completely at home while in the African wild!
