There’s Circles in Makati Shang… There is Heat in EDSA Shang… and There is Latitude!

Traders Hotel is part of the Shangri-La group. So it is no surprise that the quality and the dining experience that Shangri-La has to offer can also be found here in Latitude at the Trader’s Hotel Manila.

Latitude Buffet is a bit Small if Compared to its Brothers but the quality of the food was not compromised. The buffet was complete as expected, Soups, Salads, Appetizers, Main Dishes, Pasta, Carving Station Dessert.. They even have Churros and Laksa Station which is something you rarely find in a buffet.

The ambiance, interior, and the service was really good as well, you will not notice for a bit that Traders Hotel is not a 5-star luxury Hotel. It was above expectations.

My Favorites were the Roast Beef.. It was really tender and Juicy, The Churros with Chocolate Dip.. and the Korean Beef Stew!! It was really Good! :)

Now the Food…

Over all, Latitude Buffet is a Really Good (although small) buffet. If I am not mistaken, the regular price for the buffet is between 1,200-1,500 but they regularly have promos which brings down the buffet prices to 700-900 pesos which is not bad since the food is great with the relaxed ambiance. You may call them to inquire.

Moving forward from my Previous Post about Crimson Resort and Spa… may I present to you their Luxurious and Super Amazing Villas and Rooms.

WARNING: This is a Photo Intensive Post (I mean really!) :p

Crimson Resort Cebu offers several room categories on their site but generally there are only three Major Room Categories. The main difference is the View. First is the Ocean View Villa, Second is the Private Pool Villa, and Lastly the Deluxe Rooms.

During my stay at Crimson Cebu, I stayed at their Oceanfront Villa. The villa was amazing. It has its own Gate, A living room, Dining Room, Small Kitchen, an Amazing Bedroom with a Large Bathroom, a breathtaking view of the Ocean, A garden, and your very own Private Pool! And Oh, I forgot.. A Personal Butler! Who can ask for more right?

The Noticeable differences between the Villas and the other rooms are:

The View
Toiletries (The Villas have Botanical Toiletries)
Location – Villas are detached from each other while deluxe rooms are situated on a 2-story building.
Size of the Room
Price of Course
Privacy
in-room amenities (like the iPod-dock)

The design and interiors of the room were very homey and made of indigenous materials. They really paid attention to details.. from the ceiling to the couch to the bed it was well thought of.

And if you inform them that you are on a vacation as a couple, they will throw in some kissing swan shaped towels to welcome your arrival.

More “Saucy” Choices from Kenny Rogers Roasters!

Have you seen the new billboard of Kenny’s? It was provocatively asking if you want a Threesome Yes! They were and in fact, they were damn serious! Kenny's is offering not one but two threesome sets for all their clients who likes more, more, and more choices! The More the Merrier Right? And wait for it… At No Extra Charge!

First – Three new Side Dishes! They are going Mediterranean!

Kenny’s Eggplant Pomodoro, fire-roasted eggplant baked with chunky, Italian-style tomato sauce, topped with parmesan cheese.

Kenny’s Mediterranean Pasta, a light but flavorful medley of premium pasta, roasted eggplant, olives, tomatoes, and parmesan cheese tossed in Kenny’s very own tomato vinaigrette.

Kenny’s Mashed Sweet Potato, a nutritional side with a sweet, buttery, and slightly creamy taste and aroma. I call it Mashed Kamote… It sounds better to me, and very pinoy! I like it! It is more flavorful and creamy than the regular mashed potato.

Pardon the tons and tons of adjectives. I tried to put it in my own words but I realized, their description was way better! Let’s stick with that… and besides, I was not able to try much of it since I am not a veggie person. Moving on…

Then Comes their 3 new Sauces for their Saucy Roast Chicken!

The Chicken for the Saucy Roast is a Modified version of the Classic Roast. They took out some of the Ingredients and replaced it with other ingredients so that the taste will complement the sauce and not overpower it.

The Cracked Peppercorn Sauce tastes like your regular gravy with lots of cracked pepper in it. This kind of flavor is an acquired taste. It goes well with roast beef or pork but with the Chicken, I am not really into it.

The Creamy Mushroom Sauce on the Other hand is too light and creamy for me. You’ll have to put more sauce in your chicken to be able to enjoy it. Too bad the sauce is not refillable, you will have to pay an extra for your next refill.

The Sweet BBQ Sauce may be the runaway winner among these three. It tastes – well – like a BBQ sauce. Sweet, Tangy, Smoky! Who does not like BBQ Right? Both Kids and Kids at heart will love this sauce.

I think Kenny’s – I my opinion – is targeting the higher class market on these new sauces. Like I said, it is an acquired taste. To be perfectly honest, the taste of a cracked peppercorn gravy does not appeal well to most Pinoys especially the kids.

My personal Favorite is still their Honey Roast Chicken! Still the best Roast they ever served.. Although I am hearing some rumors that it will be out of the Menu Soon… I hope its not true!

We all agree that most Filipinos love the traditional gravy and or sarsa with their Roasted Chicken. If I may suggest, why not offer the Traditional Liver Sauce instead? The sauce which Andoks or Baliwag Lechon Offers… Pinoys will surely love that!

But then again, this is just me. You can go to your nearest Kenny’s Branch and prove me wrong. :)These are only some of the new Choices that Kenny’s has to offer. All your other favorites are still on the Menu.. The Classic Roast, Honey Roast, Ribs, Muffins, Sandwiches, Wide array of Side Dishes including my all time favorite macaroni and cheese and of course Kenny’s still serve their healthy delicious dessert… Kenny’s Yogurt!

Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan. Cebu’s Hidden Gem.

Amidst the several luxury hotels, resorts and spa’s in Mactan Island Cebu lies Crimson Resort and Spa. A hidden luxury resort at the heart of Mactan Island Cebu. The resort is relatively new and to be honest, I have not heard of it until now. I have been to Cebu several times, I have tried hotels in the City and Resorts in Mactan Island. I can tell you, Crimson Resort is really a one of a kind.

I can think of several reasons why Crimson Resort unique from most of its neighboring resorts.

A Sprawling Property

Crimson Resort and Spa does not have a high rise hotel building building. You would not want to go to an island vacation just to stay on a High Rise Building right? All of their rooms are situated inside their luxurious 6-hectare sprawling compound. Their deluxe (Standard) rooms are situated on 2-story buildings and their Individual Private Villas, are perfectly located to get the best possible views. Each Villa has its own Gate, Garden, Private Pool, Spacious and Luxurious Facilities and Amazing Views.

Although you can walk around the resort, Because of its size, most of the time you’ll need to ride one of their electric golf carts to get around the resort. Unfortunately, guests cannot drive the cart! :p

The design of the hotel reminds me a lot of Boracay Shangri-La. The reception, the sprawling property and the villas. Maybe they have the same designer or inspiration.

An Intimate Location

Crimson Resort and Spa is a Destination in itself. It is perfect for a family getaway, a vacation with friends but most importantly, it is perfect for those who want a Quiet, Relaxing, Serene and Intimate Place - perhaps for a Honeymoon, Anniversary or just to be detached from the outside world.

If you are feeling anti-social and does not want to mingle with the other guest, Not a problem! Since your Private Villa has its own Pool, Bathtub, Super Comfortable Bed, Living Room, Dining Room, Mini Kitchen, and All possible ways of media entertainment – including an iPod dock – and a personal butler, you’ll find yourself not having the need to leave your villa anymore!

It is also a great spot for a beach wedding… you can use their white sand beach front for your ceremony.

Amazing Facilities

Of course, you will have to leave your Villa from time to time. Go around to enjoy the other facilities that Crimson Resort and Spa has to offer. They have this Magnificent Infinity Pool, Music Rooms, Sports Bar, Gym, Spa, Badminton Court, Pool Bar, and a Wide array of Water Sports Activities such as Jet Ski, Banana Boats, and even Diving. They also have a kids center where you can leave your kids for a while while you enjoy your vacation. The Kid Zone’s personnel are highly trained registered nurses so you’ll have the peace of mind you need while you leave your kids.

No – Its not Cobonpue BUT most furniture and accents are made in Cebu. The Cobonpue sets are in the Spa!

The Beach is ok for lounging and sun bathing but it is not very ideal for Swimming because there are rocks on some parts and it can get deep on short distances. Mactan Island is not well known for its white powdery sand beaches – it is know for Imported White Sand Beaches from nearby Provinces. Crimson keeps it clean, once the lumot are there, they immediately take it out!

Great Food

Whether it is room service or Dining in one of their restaurants, Crimson Resort and Spa offers wide array of Food Choices. You have to try their Angus Beef Burger (Medium Well) it was super delicious and Juicy! And of course, the buffets, Crimson offers Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Buffets, which I will review separately.

Superb Service and Hospitality

Filipinos are know for being the most hospitable people on the planet. You can get the best of that in Crimson or from the whole of Cebu for that matter. They are just the friendliest people and it is very genuine. Everywhere you go, you will be greeted with “Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening”. Great Service with a smile

You won’t have to lift a finger. Everything about your stay is being taken care of. From your arrival at the Airport, to check-in, to your Room, During your stay, upon check out and until the X-ray counter of the airport when you leave! I was spoiled! It was an amazing experience that I can get used to!

Amazing Spa Services

They don’t call their resort Crimson Resort and Spa for Nothing! Their AUM, chant with me – AWWWMMMMM – offers superb massages! I mean super duper great massage! Aum Spa offers world class services to its guest for total relaxation. Although the price for the services is a bit steep, but I guarantee you, it is worth every peso you pay! I tried their Aum Signature Deep Tissue Massage and it was pain in all the right places which results in extreme relaxation afterwards! If you want lighter touch you can go with their other massages :) Just ask their friendly attendant in the spa.

You can also get the massages in your room, by the beach, or by the Pool! And don’t miss on their Cold Ginger Tamarind Tea was Delicious!! :)

If you are looking for a new and exciting Resort and Spa in Mactan Island Cebu this summer, go check out what Crimson Resort and Spa has to offer! The photos may look good but believe me, it is way better if you experience it for yourself! I Guarantee You it will be awesome!

And by the way, did I mention that Crimson Resort and Spa is a Filipino Owned Resort so the More Reason to try it! Proudly Pinoy! :)

Here’s my new Favorite Donut Shop! Although It’s still a love-hate relationship but at the end of the day, It is still my new Favorite. :)

5 Reasons Why I love J.CO Donuts.

It is an Asian Brand (Finally!)
The donuts are not too sweet. Just the right sweetness.
They have unique, cleverly named and delicious flavors. The perfect term is Luscious!
They serve great coffee!
They have a big dining area.

5 Reasons Why I ~~hate~~ don’t love it so much.

The Lines are too long. You may have to stand and wait for a while.
Most of the time, not all flavors are available. Again, you will have to wait.
As of now, Only 1 branch is open (Megamall) but they are opening MOA, Trinoma, Greenbelt, and ATC Soon.
The dining area is not always tidy.
It takes a while for the coffee to be prepared (even though there’s no queue)

Here’s the concept, they make donuts in small batches and decorate, design, stuff them by hand. You can just imaging the time being consumed for that – and the waiting time as well. Unlike the other donut shops where they shower their donuts with sugar syrup, J.Co does not do this with all their donuts (except for the glazed variants of course) thus making it not too sweet. They have very clever donuts names, forget the Basics… Meet your new Favorites!

It may seem that their donuts are expensive – yes probably if you buy them per piece, but if you buy the 2 dozen package the donut price goes down to P23 each! That’s cheaper than most donuts out there! Not to mention that they are super delicious! :)

Above: Lower right portion of the Box… My Favorite… And apparently most people as well is the Tiramisu! You have got to try it!!! Melts in your mouth goodness!

Aside from coffee… they have yogurt too! :)

Tip: You can store the donuts in the Fridge. If you’ll be eating them again, you can pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds, and they are good as new! :)

Go Hotels! Our Country’s Very Own Budget Hotel.

Go Hotels has been around for a few years now but it was not until recently that I was able to try it. I checked-in on their Mandaluyong Hotel and the experience was surprisingly good!

A brief background. In the Philippines when we say budget hotel, we immediately think of it as either an old torn-down hotel or a motel which offers “Short Time” Stays. That is absolutely not the case for Go Hotels. Their business model was patterned to the business model used by budget airlines (Go Hotels is a Sister Company of Cebu Pacific Air) which is a Limited Service Model or More of a “Strip Down” or “Back to Basics” Model wherein you only pay for the things or services that you actually use. This hotel concept and business model has been around for quite sometime and is slowly gaining popularity especially to budget conscious travellers.

When people travel, most of the time they are out of their hotel rooms. They are basically out on tours the whole day and just come back to the hotel to sleep, shower, and leave their stuff. So the question is, why would you pay tons of money for the hotel facilities that you don’t even get to use? Makes Sense Right?

Go Hotels' Amenities are the Basic Amenities you’ll need for a Comfortable and Safe Hotel Stay.

Small Clean Rooms (Good for 2, Twin or Queen, No Space for an Extra Bed)
Nice Clean Shower with Towels, Soap and Shampoo and A Clean Toilet
Free WiFi (Although I found their WiFi Slow and Unreliable)
In-Room Safe and Key Card Entry (for Safekeeping of your stuff)
Friendly Staff and Crew
Great View of The City (Available on Some rooms, Other Rooms have no Windows)
Convenient Location (5-10 Minutes walk to the MRT Station)
Plenty of Water and Individually Controlled Air Conditioner
Comfortable Bed and Pillows, Phone and TV with Cable
Super Affordable Rates!

I heard that other Budget Hotels may charge you for the use of the Air-conditioner but not Go Hotels, at least not for now. The only extra that you my have to pay for are the Toiletries Set and Breakfast.

Here are the Pictures of Go Hotels in Cybergate Plaza in Mandaluyong. Lucky for us, we were able to get the room with a real window and a great view of the Pasig River. We booked this rooms 2 weeks in advance and we got it for only P1,500 per night including Breakfast! Great Deal I must Say! But if you book earlier and if you are able to catch a promo, you may get the room for way less that that amount!

Their Spacious Check In Counter Resembles the Check In counter in the Airports.

You only get a Small Soap and A Shampoo in the Room so if you need more than that and IF you don’t have a toothbrush on hand, I suggest you buy their optional toiletries set for only P88.00. If you find that expensive, there is a mini-stop beside the lobby and there's also Robinsons Supermarket (Go Hotels is located beside Robinsons Forum Mall).

Aside from their Mandaluyong Branch, Go Hotels can also be found in the Provinces of Palawan, Tacloban, Dumaguete, and Bacolod.

Right now, Only Go Hotels and Tune Hotels (Which I will Review Next) use this business model here in the Philippines. I heard that the SM Group is also Planning to build hotels with similar concept. I am looking forward to having more of these hotels available for both local and Foreign tourists. Tune Hotels (A Malaysian Hotel Chain) has been aggressively expanding in the Philippines, and in Few Months time, they might be able to overtake our Very Own Go Hotels. I hope Go Hotels also has plans of expanding its operations to catch up with the competition and the demand.

Yes there is a demand! Most of time, Go Hotels are Fully Booked. So Book Early! :)

I have reviewed several hotel buffets before. Basically most of them offer the same services and choices of food. What sets Jeepney Café at Intercon Makati apart from the rest is that they specialize in serving great Filipino Food. Makes perfect sense, after all, they are called Jeepney (one of the Quintessential symbol of our dear country). So if you are looking for a Hotel Buffet which serves great Filipino Food to entertain foreign friends or yourselves, you have got to try Jeepney Café. If you are lucky, you might even get serenated by their Singing Trio!

Well, as a Filipino eating Filipino food, I think that the food was really great! They made it as authentic and as simple as possible. They serve Fresh Mangoes on the buffet, they have ginataang Pusit, and Lechon.. and during that time, they even have Puto Bumbong and Bibingka station which I really love! I am not sure if that is a regular part of the buffet. My personal favorite were the bistek tagalog, the Embutido and of course the fresh mangoes! Aside from Pinoy Dishes, There were also Japanese, Chinese, and International Dishes in the buffet!

The food during that Wonderful Lunch Buffet at Jeepney Café Intercon!

Jeepney Café is not one of the Biggest Hotel Buffets in Manila but it is definitely worth a try. Apart from the great food, the buffet was not as crowded as the more popular ones. You can enjoy your Brunch, Lunch or Dinner in Peace. :)

If you are craving for Great Mediterranean Dishes and/or If you are looking for a place hang out near the Makati CBD area then you need to try Greko’s. They serve great tasting and yet affordable Mediterranean Dishes.

Not Much on the Interiors, Just the Basics, nothing Fancy. But it was clean. The service was fast and the waiters were very attentive and friendly.

For Starters, Appetizer Sampler P200. Combination of Hummus, Baba Ghanouj, Falafel, and Olives Served with Regular and Fried Pita Bread. I am not really familiar with what goes into these dips but it was Good! And for just P200 pesos! It’s a good Deal!

Now my Favorite! I am not sure if this is exclusive to Greko but this is definitely the first time I have ever tried this kind of burger.

Greko Burger P185. This is one of their specialty! It’s a big juicy burger patty sandwiched in chewy Pita Bread with Tomatoes, Qusong Puti, Onions and Lettuce served with fries and a Mediterranean Dip! It was Good! :) The patty has a hint of spice in it that gives it a truly Mediterranean flavor.

This is a Mediterranean restaurant so Kebabs is a staple. This one is their Kebab Platter P350. First of all, the serving was huge! This one is definitely for sharing! Chicken, Beef, and Fish (Cream Dory) kebab served over rice with tomatoes and dip on the side.

I don’t eat eggplant as it is… I only eat eggplant when 1. if it is Torta 2. If it is made like this.. an Eggplant Lasagna or Moussaka P180. Baked Layers of Eggplant, Cheese, Meat Sauce and Béchamel Sauce! You can’t go wrong with that! Healthy and Delicious!

Overall, Greko’s Serve Great Mediterranean Dishes. My tip is - just don’t expect a fancy place, it is not a fine dinining restaurant. In fact, most of the time it is a Bar! But If you are looking for a great tasting Mediterranean Quick Fix, then by all means, please go and try them out! :)

But, for most people, they just want to eat comfort food – That where CBD comes in! They offer delicious and reasonable priced Comfort foods like Burgers, Spaghetti, Cheesesteaks, Fries, Onion Rings, Chicken Tenders, Milkshakes, and beers which they sell for only P35 per bottle, they even serve imported beers at a very reasonable prices.

The Interior of the place is Simple, Modern, and Clean. It’s a casual, self-service dining experience.

Now, the Food..

CBD Onion Rings (P80): Made with real onions! if like this stuff… You’ll love their onion rings. I personally prefer the Burger King Type onion rings, the semi-processed version. :)

CBD French Fries (P45): Plain and Simple

CBD Naked Chicken Strips (P150/6pcs): Why Naked? Skin is off the meat. The comfort starts here. Who does not love chicken strips with gravy?

CBD Cheese Burger (P160) and Spaghetti Combo (P145)

The comfort food continues… First of all I want to clarify that the spaghetti here is not a full order, the full order will be more than this. Anyway, the spaghetti is between the Pinoy spaghetti and the Traditional Spaghetti.. Not too sweet and not too sour either, perfect for everyone! The burger is good although it would be better if it was juicier.

CBD Grilled Chicken Steak (P195): For those who find comfort in Rice Meals.

CBD Bacon Cheesesteak Sandwich (P325): I know that most pinoys are not used to eating cheesesteak sandwich. But I urge you! Please Try! This one was really good! The beef was tender, the bacon was perfect and what I like about it the most… the bread! Most, if not all the time, you get this dry,tough, hard to bite and chew bread.. but this one is different. It was a bit softer than the usual. A must try!

Now the Drinks!!!

The Chocolate Milkshake was good on its own but the additional Malt Flavor really adds a distinct super yummy flavor to it. You have got to try this one! YUMMEEEEHHH!!! I never knew that the additional malt will make all the difference!

Max’s Restaurant Lenten offerings this 2012

For most Pinoys, lent is the time of the year where they abstain from eating meat. But the problem is, there are not a lot of non-meat choices around – worst, not all of them taste good. Well, Max’s Restaurant has some good news! This Lenten season, aside from their regular Bangus and Shrimp Dishes, they will offer 3 new guilt-free dishes for your enjoyment this season of Lent!

First: Cauliflower Puffs! This is a great way to feed your kids with veggies without them knowing. It does not taste “gulay” at all. It’s really good and light. (P160.00)

Second: Sizzling Seafood (Cream Dory, Shrimp, and Squid) with Honey Bagoong Sauce! The honey and bagoong sauce has a good balance of saltiness and sweetness. It really complements the deep-fried seafood. (P265.00)

Third: They named this “ Adobong Kangkong Stuffed Tofu” but actually, the adobong kangkong is sandwiched between slices of fried tofu. So technically it is not “stuffed”.. enough about the technicalities. :p This dish is straightforward. If you know adobong kangkong and fried tofu.. then you’ll have an idea on what this dish will taste like! Healthy Good! :) (P150.00)

Vikings has been running its own league for quite some time now. But a new contender emerges on the other side of the ring – literally! Buffet 101 is now ready to fight head-on!

I know it may sound unfair comparing everything to Vikings. But can you blame me? Buffet 101 looks and feels like Vikings! Same price, Basically the same Location, Same Feel, Same Cuisine. This is really Vikings Vs. Buffet 101. But don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining, And so as the thousand who have tried the buffet and went home with a smile on the faces and a bulge on their tummy! In this business, the more the merrier… This is just like Yakimix Vs. Sambokojin.

Anyway, you’ll see later how Identical these 2 buffets are.. but here are some differences.

Buffet 101 Has a Fruit Shake Station! Yes! Aside from the Free Pepsi Products, Coffee, and Iced Teas, Fruit Shakes are included in the Buffet!
Buffet 101 has a crepe station
Vikings has a longer buffet which is better to disperse the crowd. Buffet 101 has a more compact/parallel set up thus keeping a lot of people crowded on a single area.
Vikings replenishes their food faster than Buffet 101. There were a lot of empty dishes.
Vikings have a better Japanese food Station
BUT… Buffet 101 has the best tempura ever!!!
Vikings have a bigger dessert station
Vikings have Caviar and More Meats
Buffet 101 has a Candy Station!! :)

I can go on and on comparing the two but in the end… they are both good! The clear winner is… US! The buffet lovers… and the Tamad people.. In case you did not notice, MOA is HUGE! You see, Vikings is on one End and Buffet 101 is on the Other end of Seaside BLVD in MOA. So, if you hate walking, go to the nearest buffet... if that is full… then you have another option on the other side! :)

Too much talking… Here are the food of Buffet 101 (Pardon the Pics, we did not have a reservation when we got there, it was already full. I was not able to take photos of the other dishes.. I have to go back!!) :)

Oh before that… Buffet 101 is also Hot nowadays, you should reserve weeks before your planned visit especially if you are going on a weekend.. As It can get pretty chaotic!

Now the Food And Some Inside Look (Again)

And before I forgot… the Food was Delicious! The Meat in the carving station was Tender and like I said the Tempura and the Crabs were awesome!

For those who noticed… yes, they serve Red Ribbon Cakes! :)

For just P799 Lunch Buffet, it was So Sulit!! I will definitely be back to this place.. or Vikings.. Whichever is nearer and not fully Booked! :)

If you are looking for a hotel buffet in Metro Manila, Riviera Café in Heritage Hotel will not probably pop in your short list, in fact it won’t even come to your mind. This buffet has very little exposure when it comes to advertising and word of mouth. If you were asked “Where is the best buffet in Manila?” almost if not always, you would probably say “Spiral” or “Circles” or “Vikings” Who can blame you? These buffets are really popular. But of course, there are still other choices.

If you are in the area of Paranaque or Pasay City you can try visiting Heritage Hotel Manila’s Riviera Café. The Hotel is hard to miss, it is right at the Corner of EDSA and Roxas Boulevard. Their buffet is not the biggest in the metro and there’s still a lot of room for improvement. The food was good but a bit limited, We went for a Sunday Lunch Buffet – which is supposed to be the best and biggest in a hotel buffet –but still, the buffet was rather inadequate. To be fair, the service was ok, and the food that was served was good. My personal favorite was the Tacos Station, this was the just the second buffet that I have been through which has a taco station, the first was Vikings. Another favorite was the Korean Station where they cook Korean Dishes Such as Korean BBQ and Bulgogi.

Here are the rest of the food during that Sunday Lunch. BTW, they do not allow picture taking of the food and the buffet – hence the lack of exposure – I had to get permission from the staff, to the supervisor, to the chef, up to the Hotel Manager of the day to be able to take a FEW pictures. I asked why they do not allow clients to take photos, the Manager said that they got some negative feedbacks before and they are avoiding exposure… Oh Ok, I respect that.. but isn't it better if you prove the people wrong by offering a better buffet experience and showing it to the world? Anyway Moving On… :)

Now The Good:

Limited food but most of them are good.
The menu was complete: Soup, Salad, Breads, Appetizers, Seafood, Entrees, Desserts.
The place is conveniently located especially for Pasay and Paranaque residents

Some Rooms for Improvement that I think might help them become a more competitive buffet:

Better Ambiance, Some music can help. Throw in some renovations as well, the place lacks sophistication and elegance.
Better Service, some staff were not that friendly. Even the manager, when I approached him to ask for permission. “Sir, I am a paying customer, a bit of courtesy is appreciated”
Better Price Point. I bought our buffet at 50% (Group Buying Site) for P878.00 so that means that the Original price is around P1,756 which is a bit expensive considering that the buffet is not that extensive. You can get a much better buffet for that amount.
Improve your service and let the people know that you have improved. You have a lot of potential, you just have to get better, be open to criticisms and take it constructively for further improvement.

Riviera Café has a lot of potential. I hope next time everything will be much better. I am really looking forward to that. :)

It is very catchy and smart. Other countries can say that they have this and that but the bottom line is - It’s more fun in the Philippines! Who would not want to have some FUN?!

FIXED: Facebook 2.0 and Twitter 2.0 for Blackberry Errors

I recently upgraded my Facebook and Twitter applications for Blackberry to 2.0. After upgrading my applications, I noticed that the two applications were not connecting. I am getting these errors.

FACEBOOK APP ERROR:
"We cannot reach the Facebook server at this time. Please try again later. (100)"

TWITTER APP ERROR
"BWP Security Token Retrieval Failed"

I tried removing and reinstalling the applications but the same error occurred. I called the Globe Hotline if they are aware of the issue or if it has something to do with Globe’s BB Social subscription (Because the apps work fine if I am connected via WiFi) but the person I talked to was not aware of the problem. I even posted the issue on the Blackberry Forums Website but there was no help.

I brought my phone at Globe Business Center and they were not also aware of the issue. They Advised me to refresh (reformat) my Blackberry, which I did. But after reinstalling the apps, it still does not work. They even advised me to have my Blackberry Sent to Singapore for Repair! WHOA!

Few days after… I tried calling Globe’s Hotline Again. It was probably my lucky day! The tech support lady was aware of the issue! She said that my BB Social was activated as a Postpaid account instead of the BB Social for a Prepaid Account. She advised me that she will update my account in the system and I just need to reboot my BB after 1 hour. After 1 hour… Voila! Everything is back to normal! What a relief!!

The issue was a bit weird, why would I be able to register for a postpaid BB Social – and work – if my BB is a prepaid account. But nevertheless, the fix worked.

If you are experiencing the same errors on your FB and Twitter Blackberry Applications after upgrade and you are subscribed to Globe’s Blackberry Social Plan. I hope this helps fixing the issue.

No, joining the Raffle draw is a privilege given to One Hyundai Club Members who have registered on the One Hyundai Club Life in Style microsite on or before January 10, 2012, attended the event and completed the passport stamps. 3. How can I get a One Hyundai Club Life in Style 2012 Journal?

If you are part of the first 1,000 One Hyundai Club members who registered, attended the event, and completed the passport stamps, you are entitled to claim a limited edition One Hyundai Club Life in Style 2012 Journal for free.

4. How can I participate in the Hourly and Grand Raffle Draw?

Acacia Hotel’s Foie Gras Burger

I love burgers! It is one of my favorite comfort food. I have tried a lot of burgers out there, In fact a lot of them were really good. Some burgers even tried to be fancy by using Angus Beef or Wagyu Beef. But this… was probably the fanciest burger that I have ever tried. Acacia Hotel’s Foie Gras Burger.

I have tried Foie Gras before and I did not like it - pang mayaman kasi :) So when I was asked to try this I was skeptical because what if I did not like it? Sayang… But after few moments of explaining how good it was, I got convinced and gave in. And Oh Boy! It was really Good!

Forget the dressing! The burger was simple, buns, lettuce, patty, and caramelized onions on top served with freshly cut fries. The Patty was super Juicy!! like I said I don’t like Foie Gras as it is but when I took a bite into the patty the combined Juices of the Beef and the Foie Gras really crates a wonderful melts in your mouth flavor! I am not exaggerating here but it was really good! Though a bit expensive, but if you are looking for a different burger experience, you have got to try this one! It is worth every peso!

Oh wait… there’s the Foie Gras :)

So if you’re passing by Alabang and you are looking for something different. Go pass by Acacia Hotel and take a bite of this delicious burger!

FYI: I love this but I cannot discount the fact that I am anti Animal Cruelty. Foie Gras is already being banned in some countries because of the way it is made. Forced feeding ducks to have a fatty liver. That is just terrible!

YEY! Another Eat All You Can, Grill All You Can restaurant is in Town! Sambo Kojin! If you love Yakimix then you’ll surely love Sambo Kojin as well. The concept is basically the same – Choose, Grill, Enjoy! The set up, the menu, and the ambiance is almost identical. But what about the food? It was also very good! They have a wide variety of meats, seafood, and vegetables for grilling! The menu is mostly Japanese and Korean. I’m sure there’s something for everybody! Aside from the BBQ items, they also have tempura, different katsu, noodles, soup, desserts and a lot more! Drinks are not included though.

Their dessert station was a bit small. But the grill items was very extensive! My favorite items in the buffet was the chapchae, the tempura, the torikuwayaki and of course those super juicy and tender beef cuts! Yum!

I love these kinds of restaurants. First of all, its cheaper compared to a full hotel buffet, The BBQ items are great, and you get to enjoy dining more because you cook the food with your family and friends. There is never a dull moment. :)

Globe, Globe, Globe… Why Do you have to go this far?

If you are a subscriber of this blog, you are well aware of my bitter-sweet relationship with Globe. You probably remembered my previous post regarding Globe Telecom and how I think they value your Loyalty. There was quite a stir and it generated quite a number of hits highlighting the fact that there a lot of Globe Subscribers out there who share the same sentiments with me. In fact, that post even reached Globe’s HQ and after which, they provided immediate assistance. But we all know, we need more than that and the issue goes way beyond that.

Here are Some Snippets from my previous email conversation with a Globe Manager:

“Hi Dencio,

A member of my team saw your blog and reported the post to me. Just want you to know that we have escalated your concern to the SME team and they will coordinate with you one of these days.

First of all, thank you for taking action regarding the concern with my account. It was relatively fast, faster than the usual.

Second, I got a call this morning from one of the Loyalty Team's representative. THANKS TO YOU! They offered to waive my cash out for the 16GB iPhone 4 for the Business Plan 1,499. I declined the offer, I told her that I will just wait for the release of the iPhone 4s - hoping that the offer still stands by that time.

Third, Of course the main reason I wrote the blog is to air out my concern and frustration with Globe. BUT it does not end there. I am also hoping that what happened to me will not happen to other Globe Subscribers. I hope that you or the departments involved will take time to review the current system. Clearly, there is something wrong with the offering, paired with a lousy group of customer service people. Something really needs to be done. This is not good business practice. I hope this courtesy and fair offering will also be extended to millions of other loyal subscribers, some of which wishing that they could just transfer to Smart if only for their number which they have been using for the past 10 years!

Lastly, I appreciate your help on this issue. I hope that the offer will still be available when the iPhone 4S arrives. If not, I hope I can still ask for your assistance. This email may come as an unsolicited advice but I hope you guys pay attention. A good product is not enough, after sales customer services can really make or break your reputation. I will update my blog in a few days, some of my readers may be affected as well - they need to know.

iPhone 4s and the Competition

I thought (and hope) that when Smart gave Globe a run for their money by offering the iPhone 4s to their subscribers, they will be pushed to step up their game, provide better service, better pricing schemes, better customer service, and VALUE their loyal customers now more than ever. I was hoping they will say “#TODAYIWILL Value our existing clients by providing excellent customer service”. But I guess, that is off my Christmas Wish List. In fairness to Globe, the service is quite ok, they and launched a better pricing scheme for the iPhone 4s. But as for the other issues, I am not quite sure if there are improvements.

A Broken Record

I am writing again because as most of you know, there’s no point of debating with their outsourced customer service team. They can only give as much help and information as what Globe will provide them. No more, No less. If it is not in the handbook, they can’t make an exemption, bend the rules a bit, or decide on their own. In short – A waste of time! Its like talking to the wall! So, I just share this with the rest of the world and hope that this gets to the right people – again!

From Bad to Worst!

Monday, 12 December 2011: My Friend signed up her interest for the iPhone 4S via Globe’s registration page. She signed up for a Contract Renewal AKA Globe “Loyalty” Rewards Program.

Wednesday, 14 December 2011: She Got a confirmation email from Globe that She can pick-up the iPhone 4S at the Glorietta Business Center on Friday 16 December 2011 with Zero Cash Out! YEY!

Friday 16 December 2011: She went to Glorietta, as scheduled, to pick-up her iPhone 4S.

Now comes the Worst Part.

She arrived on time, excited. The whole Business Center was dedicated to those who will claim their iPhone 4S that day. She was greeted and assisted by the business center’s friendly and enthusiastic representatives. My Friend presented them the confirmation email and they checked their guest list for her name. It was not there! Instead, they just checked the system using the transaction number in the email. They were able to find it BUT, SURPRISE! It was not as straightforward as she would have expected. First, she has to upgrade her plan to 1,799 then Pay the cash-out price of P4,800 – WHICH, IN CASE YOU DID NOT NOTICE, IS THE SAME CASH OUT AS FOR ALL NEW SUBSCRIBERS! HELLO GLOBE, THIS IS FOR A LOYALTY RENEWAL REMEMBER? Also, this was not previously communicated to her in any way. It was a total surprise.

Moving On, she asked why she had to upgrade and pay when in fact their letter explicitly says, P0.00 Cash Out. The Globe representative told her that “Ma’am, May tumawag po ba sa inyo para sabihin na mag-uupgrade po kayo ng plan, dapat po kasi may tatawag.” Isn’t it obvious na wala? Few minutes of Argument and that was it, My friend gave Up! There was no point arguing since this person from the business center is not part of the loyalty team who evaluates and approves these kind of requests. Super Pissed, My Friend declined the offer and did not renew her contract. Way to go Globe! Another Pissed Subscriber added to the looooong List!

Is this some kind of a Joke? A System Glitch? An Honest Mistake? Or a bad case of miscommunication? I don’t know what exactly happened here but it was a very unacceptable business practice! If this email was a legally binding contract, we would have gone to court! (OA MODE!) :) I am not sure if this was an isolated case of sending the wrong Information gone wrong but I do hope that no other Subscriber experienced the same. It was frustrating, Annoying, and not to mention very Deceiving!

We called the Globe Hotline, and they did not have any explanation either! See? USELESS!

Dear Globe, Why Do you have to make it so hard for your subscribers? Really? Why?!

Why did you let this happen? Why mislead a client? Again, this is for a Loyalty Contract Renewal, why did you offer the same Cash Out as the new Subscribers? Why Oh Why?! I know life is unfair, but do you really have to be on the unfair side? C’mon, you can do better than this!

Get a Grip! Smart is literally at your doorstep waiting for “Switchers”. Aren't you bothered at all?

As for me I have not received any feedback yet from the “Loyalty” Department regarding my registration. But based on this, Optimism is totally out of the picture. Number 1 in postpaid? Nah! Make that Number 1 in having the most number of pissed postpaid subscribers!

Phone Number Portability Act, we need you now!

First of All, Sorry for the long wait. I was (still) in the process of migrating all my files to a new laptop. Please bear with my migration :)

Second, thank you for the positive feedback I got regarding my Acacia Hotel Post. A lot actually came from my friends here in the South! They were all excited to try the hotel but they were most excited in trying the Buffet… Actually I think some of them already did.

Now before the food, let’s talk about the Price. Acacia Hotel Manila’s Buffet Prices are as follows:

Breakfast: P788 net
Lunch: P888 net
Dinner: P988 net

(These prices are their November Promo,I suggest you call to confirm)

Like I said in my previous post, the food in Acaci Café’s Buffet was great. Considering that it was only their first week of operation, the food was really delicious. Paired with the Amazing Ambiance and 360 view of Alabang, it was a truly pleasurable dining experience. Acaci Café serves delicious local and International Cuisine. In fact, this is the first Hotel buffet that I have tried which serves Sisig! It was a complete buffet, appetizers, soup, salad, bread, main course dishes, pasta bar, carving station, Mongolian bar, and dessert bar. The only thing missing? Fondue and Ice Cream :) The buffet was good as it is but it was far from perfect. There are still a lot of room for improvement, which they acknowledged and promised to improve before their grand opening early next year. :)

Enough Talk, Here’s the menu of Acacia Hotel Manila (Alabang) Buffet. BTW, Can I just say, I love the natural light inside the restaurant, it makes great looking food photos.

This is cheddar cheese marinated in herbs and olive oil! A must try!!! Sarap! :)

One of my favorite entries on the buffet was these home made flavored butters. Plain, Pimiento, Herbed, and Black Olives infused butter! My favorite was the pimiento! it was very flavorful! I must try their breakfast buffet soon! I miss these butter!

The roast was soooo tender! It melts in your mouth! Although it was already cooked all the way through you can’t have it medium rare. :)

Korean Beeeeffff!!!! :)

Drinks are not included in the buffet. But I was surprised that their drinks were very affordable compared to other hotels where one order of coke in can will cost you P300++. My favorite drink? This unique and super refreshing Pandan Drink! It was soooo good! a must try! Too bad they do not offer bottomless for this drink. :)

I must say, this place is the perfect hangout this Christmas Season. A great place to dine, hang out and catch up with your friends and Family. I will surely visit Acacia Hotel this Christmas Season! See you there!
