Mistakes happen. We’ve all been there, we’re only human right? When this happens don’t panic!

Denise Aday’s insight:

Take a deep breath and follow some simple steps to make it right and prevent in the future.

Inspiring and Courageous: Popular Resistance Percolates Throughout the Land

Inspiring and Courageous: Popular Resistance Percolates Throughout the Land:

Every week we are inspired by the many people throughout the country who are doing excellent work to challenge the power structure and put forward a new path for the country. The popular resistance to plutocracy, concentrated wealth and corporatism is decentralized, creative and growing.

Read the full article.

As the song goes, “step out of line, the man come and take you away.” But they can’t take us all away, especially if more and more we keep coming:

One growing series of protests has been the “Moral Monday” demonstrations in North Carolina. They do not have ‘one demand’ but rather are challenging the systemic corruption, undermining of democracy and misdirection of a state government that puts human needs second to corporate profits – which they have dubbed ‘Robin Hood in Reverse’. This week 49 of 200 protesters inside the capitol were arrested singing, chanting and echoing many of the same concerns that demonstrators have for the past three Mondays. Last week there were 30 arrests, the week before 17. Among those arrested was an 83 year old retired minister, Vernon Tyson, who was merely a spectator, but he gave a great interview cheering on the protests after his release.

We are not radicals. Each of us has been president of the Organization of American Historians, the leading professional organization of all American historians. We cherish the history we have spent our lives studying. Yet now we see a new generation in Raleigh threatening to destroy the very history we have spent our lives celebrating.

Email is a great way to share your work with your biggest fans. It makes sense for your audience, promotes your content on different websites, and doesn’t take too much extra work on your part. Here’s how a few of my favorite writers use MailChimp and TinyLetter.

Denise Aday’s insight:

How to:

* Create a Digest
* Show Your Work
* Find a Formula
* Share Other People’s Work

Good stuff!

Now what?

”It’s a moment described in the famous Civil Rights Movement saying, quoted by Angela Davis: “If they come for me in the morning, they’ll come for you at night.” After years of chipping away (largely without protest or even acknowledgement from the mainstream corporate media), at the rights of what the Administration considers the most dangerous and uncontrollable information source — the Internet and the activists and independent journalists who thrive on it like Wikileaks or Mayfirst, the web hosting service I helped found — they’ve now knocked on the door of the mainstream media.”

"If Press Loses Freedom, Democracy Is Sunk.
A review of email marketing expert Simms Jenkins’ new book on how brands should be leveraging social and mobile in their email marketing campaigns.

Denise Aday’s insight:

Email is still incredibly relevant and mobile is the way we like it:

“…smartphone users are more likely to read emails than to make calls” and subscribers will delete or unsubcribe “from email based on the mobile messaging experience…how you render on mobile really matters.”

UPDATE: Reading the Kindle sample now, my only wish so far is that the gender-bias had been edited out. “Email’s Wingmen” indeed. And that’s not the only instance of the bias problem right from the get-go. Writers, there’s no excuse anymore!

When the floor’s gotten a bit dusty, telltale paw prints show the way. The cats stop the occasional mouse, but who’s to stop the cats?!

The dynamic duo at rest. They release all this stored solar energy at night ;)

I love that she’s more and more politically and environmentally awake.

Knowing what your hard-earned money supports and making conscious decisions about that is a crucial part of changing so many situations, health-wise, environmental, fair trade, civil rights, and more. It’s a responsibility. We must stop ‘passing the buck’. These companies need consumers, right? So we ultimately hold the power to resist, refuse, and demand better.

I’m going to try this app out right at home, to check what might be lurking on our shelves. We’re pretty aware, but I’m sure there’s plenty of room for improvement.

New Buycott App Makes Voting with Your Dollar Easier Than Ever

Have you ever wondered whether the money you spend ends up funding causes you oppose? Thanks to the new Buycott app, you can organize your consumer spending to support causes you care about, and oppose those that you don’t—all by using your smart phone.

For example, if you belong to the Demand GMO Labeling campaign on Buycott, when you scan the items in your grocery cart, it will tell you whether those products were made by one of the 36 corporations that donated more than $150,000 to oppose the mandatory labeling of genetically modified food.

http://ecowatch.com/2013/buycott-app-makes-voting-dollar-easier-than-ever/

This number is a reminder that for the last 150 years—and especially over the last several decades—we have been recklessly polluting the protective sheath of atmosphere that surrounds the Earth and protects the conditions that have fostered the flourishing of our civilization. We are altering the composition of our atmosphere at an unprecedented rate.

As the politicians still pretend dirty energy is economically good for us. How is that, on an unlivable planet?

Tell Eric Holder and the Justice Dept: Stop your attack on the First Amendment

It was recently revealed that the Department of Justice secretly seized two months of telephone records of a large number of Associated Press reporters.

This unprecedented, indiscriminate surveillance of journalists is an attack on the First Amendment that will have a chilling effect on the ability of these journalists and others to function as a free press.

And unfortunately, it is only the most recent case of overreach by the Justice Department in its overzealous pursuit of whistleblowers.

You may still have questions about whether or not mobile is something you’re ready to think about.

It’s understandable. You’ve got a lot on your plate and chances are your current email strategy has delivered plenty of positive results. Why complicate things by introducing a new approach?

Denise Aday’s insight:

Asks and answers: “what if designing mobile-friendly emails didn’t complicate your current approach to email marketing at all? What if it actually presented an opportunity to get back to the basics and simplify your email creation process completely?”

There are a lot of email marketing pieces out there that are blasts from the past. Frankly, people don’t have the patience to deal with them, so they unsubscribe, hit delete, and/or report as spam. There’s really no excuse not to move on, refresh your look, and keep up with these mobile times. And no need to fear the tools, because they do so much of the heavy lifting for you. Both MailChimp & Constant Contact make creating emails that optimize for any size device very easy with their templates and drag and drop editors.

Simply no time on your plate to do this yourself? Lots of experts out there to help you go ahead and get it done. Let’s talk…you’ll feel (and look) better ;)

When you write a letter, seal it in an envelope, and drop it in the mail, federal law is clear that it’s a private document. No government agent can legally open it up and read it without a warrant demonstrating probable cause under the Fourth Amendment.

Once a year the American Indian Council of Mariposa County (AICMC) - aka the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation - organizes a traditional Native American celebration. To most people this celebration is known as a Pow Wow but, to us it is known as Chi-Tock-Non Kote-U-Pu - a drug-free, alcohol-free, smoke-free Spring Celebration.

The next event, May 11 - 12, 2013, marks our 20th annual Pow Wow and is important not only as a celebration of our Native American culture, song and dance but, more importantly, helps to fund the Nellie Tucker Scholarship. At present, the Southern Sierra Miwuk are not Federally recognized and, therefore, do not qualify for the larger Scholarships and Grants that are available to recognized tribes. The Nellie Tucker scholarship, administered through the AICMC, provides funds for local Native students who are trying to further their education.
