Last Saturday, the west parking lot was lined with SUVs, trucks, minivans, sedans, hatchbacks, and one stroller. Halloween Alternative
Fred October was in hiding again last Friday night. The Search for Fred October is our human scavenger hunt where over 50 Senior High students searched throughout Southlands Mall in a race to see who would find him first.

Youth from the Crash joined us in our frantic search for Fred which has become an annual, highly anticipated outreach event for our Senior High Youth.

After Fred was discovered, the students returned to DFC for a fun-filled lock-in night with games, food and fellowship. What a great alternative to the typical Halloween party scene!

October Mission:Denver Report
Mission Denver was on Saturday, October 31st. We had eight tubs full of hygiene packs this month. Thanks to the church for continuing to keep us well supplied. It was great to see Jon and Krystal Tinniswood along with four young men and a friend from the Tennyson Center to help in serving. There were about 200 people that received lunch, clothes, and hygiene packs this month. A special thanks goes to the faithful crew that come every month for Mission:Denver.

How You Can Help

Help Support Our Youth, It’s Easy!
Stop by the Student Ministries Booth or the GL Welcome Center and purchase a King Soopers gift card. We sell cards in $25, $50 and $100 increments. For each card you purchase, a percentage goes to the Youth Department. Your support will help our youth go to retreats, missions trips and camp. Stop by and see how it works!

Pantry
During the holiday season, we have many families and individuals in need that come to the church in search of help. The DFC Pantry is an important ministry here at DFC. We depend on your contributions to help those in need. If you are able, please donate non-perishable food, hygiene and paper goods to the Pantry. Right now, we are running low on oatmeal, canned salmon, peanut butter, canned veggies and soup, tomato paste, spaghetti sauce, crackers, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and all sizes of diapers. We truly appreciate your donations.

DFC Military Support Group
We are a group of concerned church members with relatives in our country's armed forces. We meet on the first Sunday of each month, 5:00- 6:00 PM, in Room 200. Our next meeting will be on December 6th.

Right now we have a special need: current addresses (including country) for our military people. They are listed on the back of the "Prayer Requests" brochure, available every Sunday at the main usher stations around the church. If you can help us out, send the info to Pinky Sloane, 720-344-8825, email pinkysloane@q.com.

Here are some specific service members for whom you can pray right now:

SGT Jeffrey Leeper (US Army), his wife and new baby are moving with his unit from Grafenwohr, Germany to Schweinfurt. They hope to come home to the states for Christmas. (Grandparents are Dean & Barbara Kornelsen.)
1LT Nathaniel Miller (USAF) flies the Air Force's C5A cargo aircraft. He is now at an airbase in Spain, ferrying Army helicopters in his C5A to a unit in Afghanistan. (Mother is Nancy Miller.)

We're gathering/updating addresses to begin sending cards and letters to our military people, and we'll be in with the Missions Council at church on Nov. 15, offering boxes for folks to fill and mail to our service members overseas, especially those in the war zones, for the Christmas season.

31st Annual IN Group Banquet—Saturday, Nov. 21
This event will be at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. The theme is “Around the World with Dr. Jim Diehl.” Tickets are $20.00 (reserved by table number) and are available at the IN Group Booth (south entrance). Music will be provided by Van & Miriam Owen accompanied by Linda Jackson on the piano. Note: Semi-Formal dress. The IN Group is now open to all adults. The reception area will be open at 5:00 pm in the Community Room.

Baptism Class
Sunday, November 15th, will be Pastor Shawn’s first baptism service here at DFC. He will baptize people in our morning service. If you are interested in being baptized, please come to the class this Sunday, November 8th at 5:00 pm in Room 200.

A Taste of Christmas - Sat., Dec. 5
Ticket sales begin this Sunday, November 8th! Tickets are $12.00. Volunteers are still needed in all areas. See Gay Borrego at the ministry booth near the South Entrance.

Widows and Mature Single Ladies of DFC
Join us for a brunch on Saturday, Nov. 14th at 10:00am in the Fellowship Hall of DFC. Our own Dixie Whittaker will be our speaker. Secret Sisters will be revealed! Singles Bowling & Dinner

Shoebox Christmas
Christmas is just around the corner and our tradition at DFC is to fill "Shoeboxes" for the needy in our world. This year boxes will be delivered to the Navajo Nation in Arizona and Jesus of Nazareth Compassion Center in Denver. Boxes will be distributed November 8th & 15th with boxes returning on Sunday, November 22nd when we will celebrate Thanksgiving with an Offering for World Missions & "Build the Wall" of gifts. We will also have opportunity to reach out to our Military with care packages. Those instructions will be distributed Sunday, November 15, 2009.

A Final Word from Randy - 11/06/09

In our service last Sunday, people responded to the Spirit’s calling without hesitation, thirstily. The response was not far from Jesus’ analogy in the Parable of the Soils:

“But the good soil represents honest, good-hearted people. They listen to God’s words and cling to them and steadily spread them to others who also soon believe.”
(Lk. 8:15, TLB)

Let’s invite those Fresh Rains of the Spirit—those showers of blessing—not so that we alone may be well-nourished, but also that we may produce a large crop for His kingdom by “steadily spreading [His words] to others who also soon believe.”

Kid's Corner - 11/06/09

As you will recall, our church family collected 10,000 pieces of candy for this event. Every single morsel was shared with the children! In addition, the Ground Level Auditorium was packed with families who experienced a “dinner theater” of sorts. While the magicians entertained the crowd, families dined on hot dogs and warm chili. Families also enjoyed fellowship with one another.

We would like to thank the 80 volunteers who made Trunk-or-Treat a priority. Volunteers included grandmas and grandpas, moms and dads, teens, kids, and even one baby (with the help of her parents). Thank you for your time, your smiles, your welcoming words, and especially your prayers for those who came to Trunk-or-Treat 2009 filled with curiosity about our church and, more importantly, our Savior.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.” Psalm 136:1(NIV)

Board Perspective - 11/6/09

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Last Saturday we pulled our PT Cruiser into the church parking lot alongside several dozen other vehicles to pop the hatch, decorate the interior and participate in Trunk-or-Treat. Earlier in the day, the Mission:Denver crew had been downtown ministering to the homeless as they do each month. Those are just two examples from a long list of thriving ministry activities in which to be involved at DFC. If you haven't yet found a place that's right for you, the leadership is nearly ready to help you along that discovery path. Stay tuned for more details soon.

"...and they took note that these men had been with Jesus" (Acts 4:13). These words delivered by Pastor Sunday morning have continued to ring in my ears through the week. Though it is the longing of my heart, I can't help but wonder if anyone takes note that I've been with Jesus. I've come to the conclusion that it depends on HOW I spend my time with Him.

In Luke 9:23, Jesus puts it all very clearly in perspective. It's not about me. I must deny myself. I must be vigilant about rejecting my ego -- the focus on "I" -- where the enemy of my soul always lurks. Once I've been saved, my primary mandate is to simply be a witness for Jesus (Matt 10:18; Luke 24:48; Acts 1:8, 2:32, 24:48).

So, I can spend my time before Him focused on me and my desires. Or I can realize the incredible responsibility He has entrusted to me to carry the message of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-20) and grasp the fact that He is engineering every circumstance in my life to maximize my ability to be a witness (1 Peter 4:12-19). Only then will the "fragrance of the knowledge of him" spread wherever I go (2 Corinthians 2:14).

Nicaragua Work and Witness Trip Report

Thanks to DFC for supporting missions! A team of nine returned safely from Nicaragua, Central America on October 27 from an eleven day Work & Witness trip. The team ministered to children through Vacation Bible School and started construction of a 30x60 foot cement block church. The church is located 1 ½ hours by plane (or as John Bruneau and I learned, 8 hours by bus) from the capital city of Managua. From there, another 45 minutes by boat, then a one hour trip by truck on bumpy roads to the site of the town and church. The town of Las Colinas has about 1,000 people; the Nazarene church is healthy with 110 members. A new church is needed as the current one is constructed of wood and does not hold up to the rain and termites. The young pastor and his wife are expecting their first baby and are living in the front ¼ of the current church. $12,000 from DFC missions and W&W team members bought materials to build this new facility for the Nazarene church in Las Colinas, Nicaragua. We were blessed to have about 12 men from the congregation building the church with us. The ladies of the church prepared traditional rice and beans with chicken for our lunches every day. Construction of the church will be complete within the next five weeks.

Vacation Bible School with puppets and a gospel message were presented in 4 remote towns. Construction on the church was every day until 3:00pm, and then the whole team would pack up for VBS at various churches in the area. It was encouraging to see pastors, parents, and children serving the Lord in what appeared to be a difficult place to live. On the way back from one of the churches our truck got stuck in the mud. Three hours of rain contributed to the deterioration of the dirt covered plank bridge such that our truck got stuck half way over the bridge. We all had to get out of the truck then lift the back wheels of the truck back onto the wood planks of the bridge.

Team members on this trip were John Bruneau, Marvin Floyd, Don and Michael Funk from Seattle, Dale VonSeggen, Gwenda, Josh, and Levi Rakes, and myself Gene Rakes. Once again it was amazing to watch God put things together for His purposes. Each team member had unique contributions to help accomplish the mission. We were happy to have additional contributions of $700 for the purchase of Bibles.

One story of God's planning was that one day when we arrived for VBS we found the church to be locked with no sign of a pastor or a key to the church. There was a misunderstanding on the day we were expected to arrive. Fortunately one member of the congregation knew about a school that was meeting nearby. The school was a wooden, one room, dirt floor building with about 15 students between 1st and 8th grade. The teacher let us hold VBS in the classroom during normal school hours. More children and parents from the community continued to come to the school house for VBS until there were about 40 children in all. We had puppets, the salvation story, a craft, and a soccer game with all the children. What an awesome God we serve!

A Note from Pastor Shawn - 11/6

Dear Members and Friends of DFC,

When we see and sense God moving among us it reminds us that God does want to pour out His blessing on us! Jesus said in John 10:10 “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” Jesus wants to bless us and He wants to bless the church! In order for that to happen we must listen and respond; that is what happened last Sunday! He is always ready to pour out His Spirit. The question is: are we ready to receive the power of God?

As I prepare for Sunday, I am praying that you will make yourself ready to hear and respond to His loving voice. I want us to dream of how much He wants to bless us and our families. He wants us to live in victory. Some of us experienced a real Spirit victory for the very first time while others were renewed. Keep living in that victory and trusting God for today and tomorrow!

I believe God wants to bless our church! This Sunday, we will be talking about His Church and the people who make up His Church. Please come prepared to hear His voice and bring someone with you who, like us, needs that drink of living water that changes everything for His glory!

May His Presence be your Peace!

Board Perspective

Pastor Shawn delivered another inspiring, challenging message Sunday morning. As we begin to settle into the reality of what we are called to do and be as a community of believers, it deepens the appreciation of the incredible gift of salvation afforded us through the Lord, Jesus Christ. This past Tuesday, we as a Board had our first opportunity to meet with Pastor Shawn officially assuming his role in directing the leadership of the church. The passion he demonstrates from the pulpit was also present in our meeting as he began to share with us a little about what the future might hold for us. Inclement Weather Policy
Wednesday and Thursday evening activities were canceled earlier this week because of the snow. If you are ever wondering if a church event will be cancelled because of the weather, there are several ways to find out for sure. You can tune into local TV stations, check our website, call us, or even receive such information as a text message on your cell phone. For details, read our Inclement Weather Policy.

“Trunk-or-Treat”
Trunk-or-Treat -- where we decorate the trunks of our car, fill it with our portion of the 11,000 pieces of candy the Children’s Department has collected, and distribute same to costume-clad urchins -- is happening in the DFC West Parking Lot, from 4-7pm on Saturday. There will be live entertainment, a Gospel presentation, games, and lots of fun as we offer DFC’s alternative to Halloween to the children of DFC and the surrounding community. See “How You Can Help” to get involved.

A Taste of Christmas
It’ll be here before you know it! “A Taste of Christmas” will take place on, Saturday, Dec. 5. Tickets (only $12.00, ladies!) go on sale beginning next Sunday, November 8. (Hostesses, your pre-sales need to be taken care of this Sunday, Nov. 1.) We have 21 hostesses confirmed already! Volunteers are still needed in all areas. See Gay Borrego at the booth near the South Entrance on Sunday.

Children’s Christmas Musical
Adventure Zone Worship is rehearsing the kids Christmas musical, "Mystery At the Manger". All elementary students should have a listening CD and are encouraged to be listening to the musical 24/7! If your child does not have a CD, please contact Gwenda Rakes at 303-761-8370 or Deanna Griffiths at 303-905-1926 and we will make sure they receive one. Mystery at the Manger will be presented on Sunday, December 13th as part of the morning worship service!

Sad News
Scott Nauman’s father, Glenn L. Nauman, passed away on Monday, October 26th. Many of you have asked about funeral arrangements. A Celebration of Life service was held this morning, Friday, October 30th at 11:00 am at St. Luke’s Church in Faribault, MN. Please be in prayer for Scott and his family in this time of loss.

Nazz Jazz
This past Sunday night Nazz Jazz played their final concert in Greeley, Colorado--an epic/epoch event in Dr. Jerry Nelson’s long and storied tenure at DFC. Thank you, Jerry, and members of Nazz Jazz—past and present—for your considerable contributions to the musical context of DFC.

Last Sunday
What a remarkable day of worship we experienced together as a congregation last Sunday! The Sunday morning service was marked by the inspired preaching of Pastor Shawn and worshipful, celebratory music from choir, orchestra and congregation! Sunday evening’s service was very well attended. The congregation, led alternately by four different song leaders, sang heartily the hymns of the church. Thank you, Linda Jackson, for organizing this wonderful evening of worship. There will be a repeat!

Congregation Contributions
Thank you, DFC, for your generous contributions of hygiene packs to support Mission:Denver, our ministry to Denver’s unemployed and under-employed. And thank you, as well, for supporting “Trunk-or-Treat,” DFC’s Halloween alternative for children; you provided—at present count—more than 11,000 pieces of candy for the children of DFC and the surrounding community!

Honoring One of Our Own
Heather Hill, daughter of Winston and Carolyn Hill, will be singing the National Anthem at the Jets football game this Sunday. Why will she be singing the Anthem? Well, that in itself would not be unusual for Heather, an internationally acclaimed opera singer. But, she is singing the Anthem this Sunday, because the New York Jets are honoring her father, Winston Hill, the Namath-era, multiple Pro-Bowl, offensive tackle, for his service to the Jets and to the game at-large. Parenthetically, Winston is a new addition to the First Impressions team at DFC.

Grateful Staff
For the past few years, October has been designated as Pastor Appreciation month. The ministry leaders of DFC want to thank members of the Church Board and the congregation for your thoughtful and generous expressions of appreciation that have been directed to all levels of the church staff and to various lay leaders as well. God bless you.

How You Can Help

Mission:Denver happens this Saturday, Oct. 31. You can still contribute hygiene packs if you drop them off by 8 am Saturday morning, or you can deliver them to the Mission:Denver site at Volunteers of America, 2777 Lawrence Street, by 10:30am. Better yet, why not stay, roll up your sleeves and join in on the action!

For the “Trunk or Treat” Halloween alternative event, trunks and workers are still needed! Contact Jerry Storz at 303/918-2676 or Laura Nelson at 303/324-2890.

Movers Needed! Two of our church families are in need of movers on Saturday morning.

Lyle and Goyan Campbell need 3-4 workers for about three hours to move boxes and furniture items about 10 blocks into a storage unit. A pickup truck is also needed. Please call Lyle at 303-941-9460, or Goyan at 720-253-3869.

Emergency help is needed in moving a family this Saturday morning at 9 am. Please call Julie Asmus (303-758-8436) for details. No pianos or appliances are involved; the items include couches, beds, and boxes. Pickup trucks are needed. The move is from 1720 South Fairfax, which is east of Colorado Blvd off of Mexico near Ash Grove Park.

Inclement Weather Policy

In the case of bad weather, the most important thing is for everyone to be safe. Please do not travel to Denver First Church for worship services or activities if you feel that doing so would be unsafe. If there is an actual state of emergency (declared by the governor), services and activities will be cancelled.

If bad weather makes you wonder whether church or a church event has been cancelled, you can tune in to TV stations 9(NBC), 7(ABC) or 4(CBS) to find out. Church-wide Communication
In the event of a closing or delayed opening due to inclement weather or other emergency, an announcement will be placed prominently on the church website and on the church voice messaging service at 303.761.8370. Office staff will attempt to notify the contact person for affected activities. A determination of church program status will be made and communicated as expeditiously as possible. The goal is to make a determination by 7:00 am for morning and daytime operations and activities, and by 1:00 pm for evening activities. Sometimes there are circumstances that make these timelines unrealistic. We appreciate your understanding.

Worship Services, Sunday Programs and Special Events
Every effort will be made to conduct Sunday morning worship and Sunday School. Only extremely hazardous weather, impassable travel conditions, severe damage to facilities, and/or a power outage at the church will cause a cancellation. If at all possible, weddings, funerals, and major one‑time special events will be conducted as scheduled. Cancellation of Sunday evening programs will be announced on the voicemail greeting at 303.761.8370, and will be posted prominently on the DFC website by 1:00 pm.

I had seen church buses in my neighborhood and asked some of the other kids what that was about. They told me that the bus took them to Sunday School at 2000 S. Milwaukee St. One Saturday afternoon in March 1971, the doorbell rang and there stood a tall, lanky, red-headed man. “Hello! I’m Jim Middleton and…” He explained the bus ministry and DFC. The next morning, I was waiting for the bus and hopped on when it pulled up.

I hope to have some impact on someone else’s life. (Perhaps I have; over the years I’ve led 12 people to Christ.) All because Jim came to my door one day in March 1971.

Friends, do you see it? In his first message to his new congregation, Pastor Shawn spoke on “The Principle of One”—keeping our focus, not on the 99 sheep that are in the fold, but on the one that is still out there. Jim had that focus, and by focusing on this one, an additional 12 have come into the fold! And, in speaking with Shirley, she mentioned that each of those 12 people have led at least 1 more person to the Lord! Isn’t that wonderful!

Please join me in praying that, over the course of the next 30 days, God will put someone in your path and mine who is a “Shirley,” just waiting to be asked…to follow Jesus.

The Mystery of the Manger

Have you played Clue recently? This board game that has been around for years continues to captivate astute young sleuths! Well, there is a different type of mystery being solved in the Children’s Department. The Mystery of the Manger is the title of the Christmas musical that will be performed by our DFC kids on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 10:30 am. Rehearsals for this musical started in September and will continue until the 13th of December. Each age group in the Children’s Department (Preschool, Elementary, and DOGS) follows a specific rehearsal schedule that has been woven into their Sunday morning programming. Whereas each small group rehearsal is important, there are several whole group rehearsals that families will want to mark on their calendars: Sunday, November 1, 2009; Sunday, November 29, 2009; and Sunday, December 6, 2009.

If your family faithfully arrives at 9:00 am for Sunday School, then your child will be present for his/her engaging Sunday School lesson and be on time for these rehearsals. Sunday School teachers will escort all children from their Sunday School classes to the rehearsals. Each of these whole group rehearsals will begin at 10:30 am.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Last weekend also marked the end of an era of ministry for Nazz Jazz, the big-band group of musicians and vocalists from among our ranks who have been traveling ambassadors for DFC for several years. It has been my privilege to be a member of that group since its inception. We've played many different venues over the years. But the Father saw fit to allow us on Sunday night to place an exclamation point at the end of the ministry by culminating a weekend of concerts (Friday in Cheyenne and Saturday in Loveland) with an opportunity to play the Union Colony Civic Center in Greeley on Sunday. It is a beautiful, 1750-seat auditorium that has hosted many of the biggest names in the music business as well as Broadway productions. We were truly humbled by the grace of God to allow us such an opportunity where He could receive the glory.

As I reflect on the many ministry opportunities the group has been afforded over the years, I am struck by the impact of our (human) leader and arranger, Dr. Jerry Nelson. For those who are relatively new to the DFC family, you may not be aware of the monumental talent our Father has entrusted to this man. For those who have been around for awhile, you have certainly benefited from it. But the most striking thing about Jerry is his perspective about this incredible talent.

You see, his talent is most-assuredly world class. And, just as assuredly, it is this talent that has opened so many doors for Nazz Jazz to use music as a vehicle for evangelism. But Jerry ever keeps the understanding that he is able to do what he does because he has been given a "five-talent gift" (Matthew 25:15).

Just like Timothy, we all need a Paul as a role model and mentor. Jerry has consistently been that to me and so many others as he always reflects the glory back to the Master Gift Giver. Nazz Jazz is grateful to you, our church family, for allowing us to represent Him and you. And we are grateful to Him for giving us our very own Paul.

The Body of Christ

Dear Members and Friends of DFC,

I have been here at DFC a little over two weeks and have been able to experience this Body firsthand. The first thing I have observed is faithfulness! The people of DFC are very faithful and involved. When Paul says ‘each part does its work’ it reminds me of what I have observed. I want to say thank you to all of the faithful people of DFC. We are working together for the building of His Kingdom.

The second observation that I have made is the sense of family. The Body of Christ is a family. And as we know, sometimes families have differences. The Bible does not hide that there were times of differences and even divisions in the early church. It shouldn’t surprise us that we would struggle with the same thing today. We are imperfect and at times can have differences.

The key for me is that the family is held together by Him. If we will follow Him together we will stay on the right track. Also it says we are “built up in love.” 1 Peter 4:8 says “love covers a multitude of sins.” If we will build each other up in love, the Body of Christ cannot be defeated! This is my prayer so that the people of Denver cannot help but see we are a community of love, grace and power and want to be a part of it!

Lets us keep being the Body that builds itself up in love!

Christmas time is always a special time. Of course we Christians recognize Christmas as the time that God sent His Son into the world to save the world. It is also a time when most people exchange gifts. As a child I always looked forward with anticipation to Christmas Eve when those gifts would magically appear in the night. It was our tradition that my little brother and sister and I would wake up early and go out and see the tree lined with many new gifts. What a wonderful time of receiving those special gifts! When I ponder all the gifts I have received in my life, I must say I am a blessed man! I have received so much in my life it overwhelms me. But without hesitation the most incredible gift I have ever received was the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, God‟s Son! It is by far the gift that has made the most difference in my life. When I think of gifts that I have received, the free gift of Salvation through Jesus is the one I cherish the most. Any gift that is given must be received. Jesus said in John 1:12 „yet to all who received Him‟. A gift is not a gift until it is received. Today we will be speaking on this most incredible gift of His grace. The question is - will we receive this gift of all gifts?

A Note from Pastor Shawn

What a tremendous time we have had our first full week at DFC! I have met so many wonderful people that make up the family of DFC. I want to thank the dozens and dozens of folks that have made us feel so welcome. We are truly blessed to be part of the DFC family, and I am so glad to finally be here!

Speaking of family, Tuesday night I took my family to the airport and dropped them off so they could fly back to California. I suddenly became emotional as I drove down the highway. (Which is no surprise as I have been known to cry at Hallmark card commercials!) However, I was surprised at how much I missed my family! I am looking forward to the day when they will be here experiencing Denver and DFC with me permanently. (Click here to read the rest)

Board Perspective

In a contest, you often hear about "momentum" swinging in one competitor's favor. You can't see it. You can't really measure it. But its impact on a situation is as real as any physical factor. I think "excitement" is a close cousin to momentum. And there is definitely excitement at Denver First Church! That excitement is generated by the anticipation of being part of a body with intentionality. As part of the leadership of the church, the Board is committed to partnering with the staff in developing ministries focused on achieving the common goal of reaching the lost with the Gospel. Spiritual Formation is a term used to describe the growth of the believer as he/she progresses toward becoming a fully devoted follower of Christ. In recent months, we have been impressed by the need for our congregation to move toward greater spiritual maturity. The ministry of Christian Education at DFC takes seriously the Apostle Paul’s charge to equip the saints to become deployed into “works of service,” as described in Eph. 4:11-13... DFC Nazz Jazz Concert Cancelled
The concert at DFC has been cancelled. Please join us in Greeley at the Union Colony Civic Center (701 10th Ave) for the NazzJazz Farewell Concert, October 25th at 6:00 pm. This is a free event.

Baptism Classes
Adult Baptism Class: Pastor Bud Curry will meet with adults interested in becoming baptized on November 8, from 5-6pm in Room 200. To register, please call Sarah at 303.806.2625.
Youth Baptism Class: Kari Wright will meet with youth interested in becoming baptized in the Rock Room on November 11th from 6-7pm.

31st Annual IN Group Banquet
Saturday, November 21
This event will be at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. The theme is “Around the World with Dr. Jim Diehl.” Our musical treat will be Van & Miriam Owen singing, with Linda Jackson on piano. Tickets are $20.00 (reserved by table number) and are available at the IN Group Booth (south entrance). Note: Semi-Formal dress. The IN Group is now open to all adults. The reception area will be open at 5:00 pm (in the Community Room). The DFC ministerial Staff will again provide service at your tables, with additional assistance from The Refuge Class.

Seniors Choir
Rehearsals have begun for our new Seniors Choir (soon to be named). If you love to sing and are available to rehearse and go to perform on Friday mornings, you are invited to attend. Rehearsals are Friday mornings from 9:15 - 11:00 am in the Music Room.

Trunk-of-Treat
What is a Trunk or Treat? A safe alternative to Trick or Treating that is put on by many churches, schools or small organizations around the country. They are very popular for both the kids & their parents. This is also a great outreach tool to encourage our neighbors to come join in the fun!

How do you decorate a trunk? Trunk decorations can be simple - just place them on, in and on the ground around the vehicle with the trunk or tailgate open. You can use fall leaves and pumpkins, your favorite sports team items, outdoor themes like camping (tent, sleeping bags), skiing (all your skiing, snowboarding, tubing stuff), fishing (a small boat, fishing poles, tackle box), tropical theme (beach towels a baby pool & flip flops). Have fun & be creative. It doesn't need to be elaborate or over the top - just fun! You can come in costume or not, it's entirely up to you!

Make it comfortable - bring a chair to sit in and have fun handing out the candy that so many people have donated for our event. Check in for the trunks starts @ 3:15 pm. All vehicles must be checked in by 4:00 pm. Don't Forget! Our trunk volunteers get a free meal & hot/cold drinks!

Hunt for Fred October & All-nighter
The Rock, 10-12 grades, will meet at DFC, Friday October 30th at 6:00 pm. We will have dinner and then go to Southlands to follow clues to find “Fred October.” We’ll then come back to DFC for games, food and fun (all night - until 8:00 am Saturday morning). Cost is $20 per person. Don’t forget to bring friends!

Rev. Dave Ralph
While celebrating Pastor Shawn‘s installation as DFC’s Lead Pastor, we also want to acknowledge that this past Sunday was Rev. Dave Ralph’s last official Sunday serving as ‘acting’ pastor for DFC’s congregation. He has been in that capacity since Pastor Stearman’s resignation. As such, he has been a staying force for the staff and the boards whenever there have been questions of protocol or issues that needed a firm decision. We are grateful for his service.

Shipshape for Shawn
Thank you to all who were involved in making things ‘Shipshape for Shawn.’ We had asked for 100 volunteer spots to be filled over the course of Oct. 10 – 17th. Our best estimates are that 140 spots were filled! We appreciate all who helped us inside the church and out to get things in shape for the installation service on 10/18.

Praise & Worship Ministry
We want to thank Scott Nauman, the praise & worship team, and the choir and orchestra for all of their preparation to help us to have such a wonderful morning of praise and worship. We know there were extra rehearsals involved and each person’s participation was greatly appreciated.

Thanks to Steve & Jeannie Laird and friends for preparing the snacks for the reception that followed the service this past Sunday.

Candy Collection for our Fall “Trunk-or-Treat”
Final contributions of candy to “Trunk or Treat” may be made at the Children’s booth, Receptionist’s Desk, or placed in the Children’s Ministry outer offices. Thank you to all who have contributed!

Hygiene Packs for Mission:Denver
Sunday is Communion Sunday at DFC. A recent addition to our celebration of Communion has been the giving of hygiene packs for Mission:Denver. Please place the hygiene pack(s) you are donating in the tubs provided at various locations throughout the Sanctuary. God bless you for your generosity.

Movers Needed!
Two of our church families are in need of movers on Saturday morning:

Lyle and Goyan Campbell need 3-4 workers for about three hours to move boxes and furniture items about 10 blocks into a storage unit. A pickup truck is also needed. Please call Lyle at 303-941-9460, or Goyan at 720-253-3869.

Emergency help is needed in moving a family this Saturday morning at 9 am. Please call Julie Asmus (303-758-8436) for details. No pianos or appliances are involved; the items include couches, beds, and boxes. Pickup trucks are needed. The move is from 1720 South Fairfax, which is east of Colorado Blvd off of Mexico near Ash Grove Park.

Toward this end, we have asked Karen Gunstream to assist us. Karen is recognized as a godly woman, a gifted teacher of God’s Word, and a compassionate leader in our congregation. In recent months, Karen has taught Women of the Word; she has helped us design and implement a series of adult Sunday School teacher trainings; and she has assisted us with the development of the new Adult Sunday School Teacher’s Contract.

I have asked Karen to accept the role of Lay Consultant in Spiritual Formation, to assist us in reaching our goal of fulfilling Eph. 4:11-13. I am pleased to announce that she has accepted this position. Please encourage Karen and pray for her as she co-labors with us.
