Youth-Youth Protection and Committee Meeting

Tuesday's meeting on 3/4 will start at 7 pm. There will be no recreation time for the youth as they will begin their training at 7 pm. All adults must attend the Committee Meeting. Only youth and Trainers will be allowed downstairs during the Youth-Youth Protection training.

Hello Scouts and Scouters,

For upcoming events we have:

10th Regular Meeting at 7 pm

11th Swim night on the 11th at 7:15 pm at Washington Park Rec Center

15th Christmas Party at Hotcakes Restaurant (18th and Humboldt) Cobra Patrol be there at 3 pm, everyone else at 4 pm. This is just like the summer picnics bring one hot and one cold dish to feed 8-10, bring your utensils, plates, bowls, napkins, cups. Water and Lemonaid provided. Since Cobras set up everyone else gets to clean up. Bring a gift wrapped (no more than $10) for the gift exchange - siblings too and the we are collecting new and gently used sports equipment to give to a Charity for disadvantaged youth.

17th Last Regular Scout meeting for the year, 7 pm

19th Dragon Patrol Meeting, 7 pm

23rd Food Basket distribution. 4:30 meet at St. John's the more drivers the less time it will take. Need drivers and Scouts, Sign up at meetings.

Due to weather, the original date of the first day of my project has been pushed back to the 29th of March. (In case you missed my announcement last tuesday at the meeting, PLEASE note the date change from the 23rd to the 29th!)

The second, more physically demanding part of the project has been pushed back from the 29th-30th of March to the 7th of April.

If you missed the last committee meeting and haven't seen my troop announcements then let me fill you in.

My project will consist of re-building old wooden benches in the amphitheater at the Bluff Lake Nature center. (3400 Havana Way, Denver CO, 80238. Over by the eastern edge of the old Stapleton airport.) I will be rebuilding the benches with flagstone. The first day, the 29th, we will be tearing the old ones out. On this day I welcome all scouts to help me with the project.   Remember, you need service hours to advance in rank!
The next day, the 7th of April, I will begin assembly of the benches. This will not be light work (the stone is 74 pounds per linear foot!) and I highly advise more experienced, stronger youths to participate. As well as adults who feel up to the task.

The 29th tear down phase will start at 9am and go until roughly 4pm. Depending on what time the work is completed. I need volunteers to bring work gloves, water bottles, and sunscreen. But if you forget I will have some extra at the site. I will provide some breakfast snacks as well as lunch for all volunteers.

Updates for the 7th will come in the future.

Calling all those adults with color guard experience and those just wanting to help out. We're looking for a few adults to work with those boys interested in being a part of Troop Color Guards to teach flag etiquette, improve marching and presentation form, teach calling and in general work with the boys to improve Color Guard appearance. This is for Troop Color Guards, Special Color Guards we get asked to do and in preparation for the Sport's Breakfast coming soon in March. See Phil or Tammy if you're interested.

Hello Everyone,

There will be a large (12"x 12"x 6") USPS Flat Rate shipping box at Troop meetings for Platoon 3 of the 484th MP Unit donations. The box will be put out at each Troop meeting until it is full. When it is full it will be shipped to Afghanistan. I have more flat rate boxes to replace it.

When Order of the Arrow flyers first went out there was a list of items to donate. With feedback from the Platoon 3 members the list has shrunk to 2 items. Beef jerky and unscented baby wipes. The request now is for just these two items.

Please bring packages of jerky and wipes this Tuesday evening. I'd also like to take a troop photo to enclose with the shipment, as this is a Troop 199 version of an OA project.

Subject: Denver Area Council - Boy Scout Jamboree Shakedown Trip

Greetings! My name is Joe Bajek and I am the Scoutmaster of the Denver Area Council Jamboree Shakedown Troop for this summer. You, or your Scout, stopped by and expressed some interest in the National Scout Jamboree and/or Jamboree Shakedown trip at the Denver Area Council Scout Show. This is some follow-up information.

With the 2013 Jamboree at the new Bechtel Summit Reserve site in West Virginia, BSA is hosting a program Shakedown trip. A Troop has been invited from each council in the U.S. for a long weekend to test the Jamboree program. The trip will be July 12^th—17^th this summer (2012). Denver Area Council is sending one Troop. We are looking for 36 Scouts to attend!!! It's a great opportunity to be part of the 1^st expedition to The Summit!!! We will be participating in program, just like at Jamboree. There is no prior Jamboree experience necessary – and you DO NOT have to be going to the 2013 Jamboree to attend this trip. Any registered Scout, Scouter or Venture Scout who is First Class and 12 by July 2012 can attend.

The cost is $800 (there are scholarships available) – which includes all travel, meals, lodging and equipment – all you bring is your Scout uniform and clothes for 5 days!

So think about this – pass this on to your Troop and friends – be part of the first expedition to The Summit!!!

Just a reminder that this Tuesday the 22nd is our Board of Review night. All Scouts must sit for a Board of Review so be in FULL CLass A Uniform and bring your Scout Handbook.

Only those trying for a rank advancement must have a Scoutmaster conference BEFORE their Board of Review.

Calling All Adults to participate in this process as a Board of Review member. No special requirements required. Assistant Scoutmasters you can assist with the Life Scout's Journey to Eagle reviews.

Med Form Night

Hi All,

Next Tuesday the 17th we'll be doing Med Form Night. We're going to start with the youth and if there is time will work in Adults. Forms are on the Troop Website. They are fillable forms. Please come to the meeting with the forms COMPLETELY filled in with the Scout information, medical history, emergency contact etc. Just a reminder that the Council Camps require a copy of the Scout/Scouter's immunization record and insurance card. Please bring copies.

Copies of signed forms will be available after copies are made provided you let Cheryl Boness know you need a copy.

New Parents we also need you vehicle information for Tour Permits. Form attached. If you've changed vehicle information or insurance please provide a new vehicle form to the Troop.

If you are able to take blood pressure please let Jeff Amundson know. Also some older scouts are needed to help with Height and weight stations. If you can be early to help set up that would be great!
