Not too long ago, building authority online as a coach meant writing blog posts and hoping Google’s algorithm would notice you. But today, the game has changed: SEO AI has entered the picture.

More and more people are skipping the search bar entirely. Instead of Googling “How do I prepare for my first coaching session?”, they’re asking ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini. Instead of scrolling through ten blue links, they’re reading the AI-generated answer, and often stopping there.

If you’re a coach, this presents both a challenge and an opportunity. The challenge is obvious: if your name, your content, or your coaching insights aren’t mentioned in those AI-generated answers, you risk becoming invisible. The opportunity is equally clear: if you learn how to optimize your content for both traditional SEO and AI search (AIO, or AI Optimization), you can become the coach whose voice is consistently quoted, recommended, and trusted.

This isn’t chasing trends. It’s a new way of building authority, where being findable by both humans and machines is the foundation of long-term growth.

Why Visibility Isn’t Enough Anymore

Most coaches don’t struggle with expertise. They know how to help people. The real struggle is visibility. But visibility on its own is fragile. A viral Instagram Reel can make you visible for 24 hours. A clever tweet might circulate for a week. Even a paid ad campaign can dry up the moment you stop funding it.

Authority is different. Authority is visibility with weight. It’s when people don’t just stumble upon you, they trust you. They quote you. They refer you to others because your voice rings true.

And authority is built through consistency, clarity, and connection. That’s where SEO and AI optimization come in. They’re not magic buttons, but they do ensure that your authority doesn’t remain hidden in a corner of the internet. They amplify it.

SEO: The Classic Engine of Discoverability

Let’s start with SEO, as it remains the cornerstone. Despite the rise of AI search, Google isn’t going anywhere. Millions of people still type their questions into that search bar every day. And when they do, coaches who understand SEO are far more likely to be discovered.

The beauty of SEO is its compounding power. A blog post you publish today doesn’t disappear tomorrow. If optimized well, it can continue to attract readers (and potential clients) for years.

For coaches, SEO works best when you focus on:

Long-tail keywords. These are specific, intent-driven phrases, such as “career coaching for midlife professionals,” rather than broad, competitive terms like “life coach.” Long-tail keywords attract fewer people, but the ones they attract are more likely to convert into clients.

Evergreen content. Answer questions your clients will be asking five years from now, not just what’s trending this week. Burnout, confidence, leadership transitions, and imposter syndrome: these aren’t going away anytime soon.

Readable structure. Use clear subheadings, short paragraphs, and direct language. This makes your content digestible for both humans and search engines.

The way you structure SEO content also makes it more AI-friendly.

AI Search: The New Gatekeeper of Authority

When someone asks an AI assistant a question (“What are the benefits of career coaching?” ), the AI doesn’t magically know the answer. It scans numerous sources across the web, identifies trustworthy explanations, and compiles them into a cohesive narrative.

This means that your online authority now depends on whether AI can easily find, interpret, and accurately quote your work.

In practice, this requires slightly different habits from traditional SEO. AI models don’t just favor keywords; they also prioritize clarity, quotability, and signals of authority.

For example, if you write:

“Burnout coaching is not about teaching people to work harder. It’s about reshaping how they respond to stress so work no longer depletes them.”

That line is memorable and quotable. It’s far more likely to show up in an AI-generated answer than:

“Burnout coaching helps individuals deal with stress.”

Do you see the difference? AI tools prefer clear, strong statements that they can lift directly. Which means writing in a sharp, definitive voice isn’t just good for your readers; it’s good for your discoverability in AI-driven search.

How SEO and AI Work Together

Think of SEO as your foundation and AI search optimization as your amplifier. They aren’t rivals; they’re two parts of the same ecosystem.

SEO ensures your content is accessible. Without it, neither Google nor AI will surface your work.

AI optimization ensures your content is recognizable. It’s not enough to exist online; you need to be the kind of voice AI tools want to quote.

When combined, they create a system where your content is:

Discoverable in traditional searches.

Recommended in AI-generated answers.

Trusted by human readers once they land on your site.

That’s authority in action.

The risks

Overusing AI Writing Tools

Let’s talk about AI writing assistants for a bit. As a coach, your most precious resource is time. Writing long-form, SEO-friendly, AI-optimized blog posts takes hours you may not have. AI tools can help. They can:

Generate outlines from client questions.

Suggest keyword-rich subheadings.

Draft FAQ snippets that align with how people ask questions in search or via AI.

Summarize the research so you don’t have to start from scratch.

But there’s a considerable danger: if you let AI do all the writing, your content will sound like everyone else’s. That’s why the rule of thumb is this: let AI draft, but let your voice dominate.

Take an AI draft, then rewrite with:

Stories from your practice (anonymized, of course).

Metaphors that reflect your style.

Opinions that make you stand out.

Your uniqueness is your ultimate SEO and AI advantage. Machines can generate content, but they can’t replicate your lived wisdom.

Over-Automation

It’s tempting to think: if AI can generate 20 posts a week, why not flood the internet with content? More isn’t better if it’s generic.

Excessive automation risks diluting your authority rather than building it. Imagine a potential client lands on your site and every post feels like a stiff, corporate brochure. They won’t feel connected. They won’t feel seen. They’ll click away.

Your authority doesn’t come from volume. It comes from resonance. From someone reading a post and thinking: This coach gets me.

That’s why the balance is so important: use AI for efficiency, but never outsource authenticity.

Practical Steps to Start Now

If you want to build authority with SEO and AI search, here’s a practical way forward:

Pick one core question clients ask you.
Don’t overcomplicate it, just start with what’s already on your radar.

Draft with AI.
Use a tool to create a structured outline. This saves you from staring at a blank page.

Rewrite in your voice.
Add stories, metaphors, and bold statements. Make it unmistakably yours.

Polish for SEO.
Refine the headline, meta description, and headings to enhance the overall content. Fill in keywords naturally.

Format for AI.
Add a FAQ section. Use short, direct answers for common questions. Include at least one quotable, memorable line.

Repurpose.
Share highlights on LinkedIn. Record a quick video. Send it to your newsletter list.

Do this once a week, and in a year, you’ll have a library of 50+ authority-building assets, discoverable on Google, quotable by AI, and trusted by humans.

Be the Coach Worth Quoting

The internet is noisy, but authority cuts through the noise. SEO helps people find you. AI optimization helps machines recommend you. But only your authentic voice makes people stay.

The coaches who thrive in this new era won’t be the ones who write the most content or master every algorithm hack. They’ll be the ones who consistently show up as clear, confident, quotable voices.

[ld_course_list orderby=”ID” num=”1″ col=”1″]

Branding is the currency of trust. Coaches who thrive in the modern marketplace aren’t just skilled at guiding transformations; they’re also skilled at communicating who they are, what they stand for, and why their clients should care. Branding coaches sit right at the intersection of these two truths, teaching others how to harness narrative, visibility, and positioning to build sustainable businesses.

However, in an industry that thrives on visibility, the loudest voices often drown out the most effective ones. Showmanship, with its dazzling carousels of staged success and endless reels of motivational platitudes, can sometimes overshadow substance. Meanwhile, many quieter coaches, sometimes even shy about “putting themselves out there,” are delivering consistent results to their clients without the fanfare.

So how do we navigate this divide? And more importantly, how can coaches learn from the industry’s branding leaders without getting lost in the noise of self-referential popularity contests?

Let’s explore.

The Rise of Branding Coaches

The coaching industry has exploded in the last decade. Once confined to executive boardrooms and niche therapy-related spaces, coaching has gone mainstream, encompassing life coaching, wellness coaching, business coaching, spiritual coaching, and more. With this boom came the natural question: how do you stand out in a crowded market?

Enter the branding coach.

Branding coaches became the mentors behind the mentors, helping coaches (and other entrepreneurs) articulate their message, clarify their identity, and project a professional presence online. The best of them don’t just talk about logos and Instagram colors; they guide their clients to align brand strategy with core values, archetypes, and audience psychology.

As one industry leader put it, “Branding is not about who shouts the loudest, but who tells the truest story.”

The Seduction of Showmanship

Here’s where things get tricky…

Social media favors spectacle. A coach with slick videos, aspirational photo shoots, and bold claims about six-figure months often garners more attention than a quieter coach whose work speaks for itself in client results. This isn’t a moral failing but an algorithmic one. Platforms reward engagement, and engagement often comes from performance.

The danger? Coaches (and clients) can confuse popularity with effectiveness.

A viral reel doesn’t equal a sustainable coaching framework.

A polished personal brand doesn’t guarantee client transformation.

A flood of testimonials can sometimes mask shallow outcomes.

The truth is, too much showmanship can create an echo chamber where coaches brand themselves primarily for other coaches rather than for the clients they serve. It’s branding that becomes self-referential: all lights, no grounding.

The Quiet Coaches Who Deliver

On the flip side, many coaches hesitate to brand themselves boldly because they see this showmanship and recoil. They think, “If that’s what branding is, I don’t want any part of it.”

But this is a misconception.

Branding isn’t about pretending to be someone you’re not. It’s about clarity, consistency, and resonance. Quiet coaches can excel at branding if they approach it from their strengths. For example:

An analytical coach might share thoughtful, research-driven insights in long-form newsletters rather than chasing viral content.

An empathic coach might build brand equity by nurturing small communities and fostering word-of-mouth growth.

A creative coach might showcase their ideas through storytelling, metaphors, or visual journaling.

These approaches may not feel as flashy as a neon “I hit 7-figures this month” post, but they can cultivate deeper, more sustainable trust.

What tunes?

Some patterns help:

Practice what you preach
Coaches who embody the same branding strategies they advise. If they emphasize storytelling, their own brand narrative is compelling and consistent. If they stress authenticity, they don’t shy away from vulnerability in their content.

Prioritize client outcomes (not likes)
Instead of endlessly broadcasting your own wins, coaches who showcase the results their clients achieve better conversions. The client’s story becomes the proof of the coach’s effectiveness.

Invest in long-term credibility
Industry recognition doesn’t come from a viral reel; it comes from years of consistent client results, speaking engagements, published work, and contributions to the field.

Blend visibility with depth
High-impact branding coaches know they need visibility, but they use it strategically to point back to depth, whether that’s in paid programs, intellectual frameworks, or community-building.

Practical Tips (Without Becoming a Showman)

So how can you apply these lessons if you feel wary of all the razzle-dazzle?

Start with Clarity, Not Performance

Instead of asking “How do I go viral?”, ask:

What do I stand for?

Who do I serve?

What transformation do I help create?

Your brand will grow stronger when it’s rooted in clarity rather than spectacle.

Share Client-Centered Stories

Shift the spotlight. Share anonymized case studies or detailed examples of client wins. This not only demonstrates your credibility but also helps potential clients imagine themselves in the story.

Pick Your Medium (Not Every Medium)

If you hate dancing on TikTok, don’t force yourself into it. Perhaps you excel in podcasts, long-form articles, or intimate group workshops. Branding works best when it aligns with how you naturally communicate.

Build Proof Over Time

Forget the “overnight success” myth. Consistency beats intensity. Regular newsletters, thoughtful LinkedIn posts, or a reliable YouTube schedule will build more trust than a short-lived blitz of content.

Dare to Be Vulnerable (But Not Performative)

There’s a difference between honesty and oversharing. Share challenges when they serve your audience, when they illuminate the lesson behind the struggle. This keeps your brand human without slipping into drama.

HOWEVER…

Here’s the hard pill to swallow: the coaching industry sometimes rewards popularity more than effectiveness. The loudest voices set trends, even if they’re not delivering the deepest results.

But the tide is shifting. As audiences become savvier, they’re looking for substance beneath the style. Coaches who can combine credibility with clear, aligned branding, without falling into hollow showmanship, will become the benchmarks of the next decade.

Reclaiming Branding

Branding is not about playing small, nor is it about inflating yourself into a spectacle. It’s about alignment.

For the shy or quiet coach: your reluctance to “show off” is not a weakness. It’s a reminder that branding is not synonymous with bragging. Your job is not to compete with the showmen, but to build a brand that reflects who you are and the results you consistently create.

Branding is not a popularity contest. It’s the business of trust, transformation, and resonance.

When people think about marketing, they often imagine loud sales pitches, clever slogans, or aggressive campaigns. But for coaches, those tactics usually backfire. Coaching isn’t about pushing a product, but about transformation. And transformation requires trust. For that, you need educational content marketing.

Educational content marketing is a natural fit for coaches. By teaching, you’re already doing what you do best: guiding people toward clarity and growth. You’re also building credibility long before you ever get on a call with a potential client.

A sales conversation becomes infinitely easier when someone has already experienced your expertise through your content. They’ve read your blog, listened to your podcast, or joined one of your free webinars. They don’t need to be convinced; you’ve already shown them what working with you feels like.

That’s the power of educational content. It plants seeds of trust that grow into long-term client relationships.

Why Trust Comes Before Sales

Many coaches struggle with this. The temptation is to sell. You’ve invested in your training, you know you can help people, and you want clients now. So, you post something like:

“I have two coaching spots available this month; DM me to apply.”

There’s nothing wrong with this, but if someone has no idea who you are, why would they invest hundreds or thousands of dollars after reading a single LinkedIn post?

Coaching is a high-trust business. Before someone invests, they need to feel confident that:

You understand their struggles.

You have the knowledge to help.

You’re a good fit for their personality and values.

Educational content checks all three boxes. When you consistently share valuable insights, your audience begins to see you as a trusted guide, not just another coach shouting into the void.

This is why hard-selling often undermines authority. The more you push, the more skeptical people become. But when you teach freely, you build goodwill. And goodwill, over time, converts.

What Educational Content Really Looks Like

So what does “educational content” mean in practice?

It’s not about writing academic essays. The best educational content feels useful, practical, and digestible. It’s something your audience can apply immediately to make their lives a little easier.

For example:

A leadership coach might write a blog post titled “Three Daily Questions to Build Confidence as a New Manager.”

A wellness coach could create a 10-minute YouTube video on “The 5-Minute Stress Reset You Can Do at Your Desk.”

A career coach might launch a podcast episode about “How to Reframe Job Rejections Without Losing Confidence.”

The form doesn’t matter: blog, video, podcast, webinar. What matters is that you’re giving value in a way that feels generous, not transactional.

IT’s a Long Game (Content Builds Authority)

One of the biggest misconceptions about marketing is that it should deliver immediate results. Post today, get a client tomorrow. But the truth is, educational content is a long game.

That blog post you write today may not bring a client this week. But six months from now, someone could stumble across it while searching for solutions. They read it, they resonate with it, and suddenly they’re following your work, joining your newsletter, and booking a discovery call.

Educational content has a compound effect. It works quietly in the background, building your reputation even when you’re not online. Every podcast episode, blog post, or webinar becomes part of a library of trust that keeps paying dividends over time.

Teaching Without Giving It All Away

At this point, many coaches worry: “If I give away too much for free, why would anyone pay me?”

What you need is:

Free content shows what to do and why it matters.

Paid coaching dives into how to do it, customized to the individual.

For example, a free guide might explain: “These are the 7 habits that drain a manager’s confidence.” That’s valuable! But what happens in a paid session is far deeper: you help a client unpack which of those habits show up in their life, why, and how to shift them.

In other words, free content attracts. Paid coaching transforms.

Storytelling: The Secret Ingredient

Educational content doesn’t mean dry lectures. The best content mixes stories with insights.

Think about a simple LinkedIn post. Instead of writing,

“Consistency builds habits,”

You might write:

“A client told me yesterday, ‘I just don’t have the willpower to stick to new habits.’ What I reminded her, and I’ll remind you too, is that willpower isn’t the issue. Structure is. When you design your day with small cues, consistency becomes effortless.”

Notice the difference? One sounds like a tip you’ve heard a thousand times. The other feels personal, relatable, and memorable. Stories humanize your expertise.

Please note that storytelling needs to be backed up by reality.

How to Get Started (Without Overwhelm)

One danger with content marketing is burnout. Coaches feel like they need to be everywhere (posting daily on LinkedIn, running a podcast, writing blogs, making Reels). But you don’t need to do it all. In fact, doing less with focus is far more effective.

Here’s a simple framework to start:

Pick your content pillars. Choose three themes directly tied to your coaching niche. Example: resilience, leadership confidence, career transitions.

Choose two main formats. For example, combining a blog with LinkedIn, or a podcast with a newsletter. Stick to what you can realistically manage.

Batch and repurpose. Write a blog post once a month. Break it into four LinkedIn posts. Record a podcast episode by repurposing your blog.

Add a next step. Always include a gentle call-to-action: download a resource, join your email list, or book a free call.

Need help?

If you need help with your marketing strategy or how to plan it, consider joining Branding and Marketing for Coaches or getting my branding and marketing DP framework.

[ld_course_list orderby=”ID” num=”1″ col=”1″]

TRAP: Vanity Metrics

It’s easy to get discouraged when your content doesn’t rack up likes or shares. But vanity metrics don’t equal business success. A post that gets 20 likes but lands you a client is more valuable than a post that goes viral but leads nowhere.

Measure what matters:

Are more people viewing your profile?

Are you starting meaningful conversations?

Are discovery calls being booked?

That’s the true ROI of content marketing.

Thought Leadership

Educational content doesn’t just generate leads. It positions you as a thought leader.

Thought leadership is about shaping conversations in your industry. It’s saying: “Here’s a problem I see, and here’s a different way to think about it.”

When you consistently share perspectives that challenge, inspire, and educate, people don’t just see you as a coach. They see you as a voice worth following. That’s how reputations and coaching businesses are built.

Serve First, Sell Later

Educational content marketing is the opposite of the hard sell. Instead of shouting “Hire me!” you’re saying, “Here’s something valuable that can help you right now.” The more you teach, the more trust you build. And the more trust you build, the easier it becomes to attract clients who are already convinced of your value.

At the end of the day, people don’t just buy coaching. They invest in a guide they trust. And trust is built through teaching.

LinkedIn is a goldmine for coaches. It’s where professionals go to learn, network, and find solutions to the challenges they face in leadership, career transitions, wellness, and beyond.

But let’s be real for a second. Most coaches feel one of two things when it comes to LinkedIn:

Overwhelmed. “I don’t have time to spend hours writing thought-leadership posts, commenting on everyone’s content, and managing DMs.”

Inconsistent. “I post in bursts when I feel inspired, then disappear for weeks.”

Both approaches lead to frustration. Bursts of activity get some short-term attention, but without consistency, they lead to dry up. On the flip side, burning yourself out trying to “be everywhere” isn’t sustainable.

That’s where the 15-minute habit comes in.

With just a quarter of an hour a day, you can stay visible, nurture relationships, and grow your coaching business on LinkedIn without becoming a slave to social media.

the 15-Minute Habit

The key principle is this: tiny, consistent actions beat occasional big pushes.

Think about coaching itself. You wouldn’t tell your clients to meditate for 5 hours once a month. You’d tell them to meditate for 10 minutes a day. The same principle applies to LinkedIn.

Think about it:

Algorithmic visibility. LinkedIn rewards consistent activity. The more often you engage, the more the algorithm trusts you’re active, and the more your posts and comments are shown.

Human visibility. Your audience remembers the people they see often. Small but steady actions make you part of their professional environment.

Energy sustainability. Fifteen minutes a day is doable. It prevents the all-or-nothing cycles that create burnout.

This isn’t about flashy launches or viral posts. Those are exciting, but they don’t create sustainable growth. The real engine of LinkedIn growth for coaches is small, daily actions done well.

How it works

Let’s break it down. What can you realistically do in 15 minutes?

5 minutes: Commenting strategically

Engage with 3–5 posts from people in your network or ideal client space.

Leave thoughtful comments that add value, not just “Great post!”

Example: If someone posts about struggling with leadership confidence, you might comment:
“This comes up a lot with my clients who are new managers; confidence often grows when they reframe mistakes as part of the learning process. Thanks for highlighting this topic!”

Why? Comments expand your visibility beyond your direct connections and position you as insightful.

5 minutes: Connecting personally

Send 1–2 personalized connection requests.

Mention a shared interest, a post you enjoyed, or a reason for connecting.

Why? Personalized requests are far more likely to be accepted and remembered.

5 minutes: Sharing one micro-insight

Post a short reflection, tip, or client-inspired lesson (always anonymized).

Why? Micro-posts keep your profile active without needing an essay. They show your voice and values.

That’s it. Three actions, 15 minutes. Done consistently, they create steady momentum.

Why Daily Beats Sporadic

Many coaches try the “content blast” approach: posting long articles, scheduling weeks of content in a frenzy, or launching a visibility sprint.

The problem? Once the burst is over, visibility plummets. Coaching is a relationship business. Relationships aren’t built in bursts. They’re built with consistent presence.

Consider two scenarios:

Coach A posts a brilliant 1,500-word article once a month. It gets good traction for two days, then they go silent.

Coach B spends 15 minutes daily commenting, posting micro-insights, and sending thoughtful requests.

After three months, Coach A has four posts. Coach B has 60+ micro-engagements, dozens of new conversations, and is a familiar face in their niche.

Guess who wins?

Preventing Burnout

One of the biggest risks for coaches on LinkedIn is social media fatigue. You start strong, then the demands of coaching sessions, admin work, and life take over. Suddenly, LinkedIn feels like a burden.

The 15-minute habit solves this:

It sets a boundary. You’re not “living” on LinkedIn.

It keeps the activity sustainable, low effort, high impact.

It reduces guilt. You don’t need to do everything every day. You need to show up consistently.

Think of it as brushing your teeth. You don’t skip it, but you also don’t spend hours on it.

The Myth of Big Launches

Big, flashy launches are overrated. Yes, they can generate buzz. But without consistent daily engagement, launches often flop. Why? Because people don’t buy from strangers. They buy from coaches they trust and recognize.

Trust isn’t built in a launch week. It’s built in the everyday presence that makes someone think: “I keep seeing her posts, I like her perspective, I wonder what it’d be like to work with her.”

The 15-minute habit establishes the baseline trust necessary for successful launches.

Strategic Commenting: The Hidden Growth Engine

Many coaches underestimate commenting. They see it as “supporting others,” not lead generation.

However, comments often get more visibility than posts. When you leave a thoughtful comment, everyone engaging with that post can see your name and perspective.

Tips for strategic commenting:

Focus on posts in your niche.

Add a unique angle, question, or personal story.

Avoid clichés like “Great point!” (They don’t make you memorable.)

Use comments to spark conversations. If someone replies, you can later connect personally.

Think of comments as micro-posts with built-in distribution.

Building Relationships, Not Just Followers

The 15-minute habit isn’t about chasing follower counts. It’s about building meaningful relationships that turn into clients.

That means:

Following up when someone comments on your post.

Continuing conversations from comments into DMs (without pitching immediately).

Staying human. Show your personality, your values, your quirks.

Remember: people invest in coaching when they trust the coach, not just the content.

Slow, Steady, and Sustainable

Coaching is about transformation, and transformation takes time. So does building a coaching business on LinkedIn. The 15-minute habit is your sustainable engine. No burnout. No guilt. Just consistent presence that builds trust, authority, and relationships.

Big launches might get attention. Viral posts might feel exciting. But neither creates the steady growth that keeps your business thriving.

What does? Fifteen minutes every day, done well.

Most coaches think marketing is about visibility. Post enough on Instagram, run the right ad, show up on LinkedIn every week, and clients will find you. However, visibility without depth doesn’t convert. You can give depth online using Jung, the hidden secret to magnetic coaching brands.

People don’t just buy coaching. They invest in stories that help them see themselves in a new light. They choose coaches who feel like guides on their journey. And nothing creates that depth better than Carl Jung’s teachings on archetypes, symbolism, and the unconscious.

I’m not going to use The Red Book to look intellectual. This is about using Jung’s work to craft a brand identity that resonates at a subconscious level, where real connection happens.

If you understand this, your marketing won’t just stand out; it will stick.

Why Jung Belongs in Your Marketing Toolbox

Carl Jung (1875–1961) wasn’t a marketer. He was a Swiss psychiatrist who explored the human psyche through concepts like the collective unconscious, archetypes, and individuation (the process of becoming your true self.)

Why does this matter to you as a coach?

Because branding is psychological work, it’s about shaping how people perceive you. But more importantly, it’s about aligning that perception with their inner world.

Archetypes give you a shortcut to emotional resonance.

Symbols speak to your audience without you having to “convince” them.

The shadow helps you own your uniqueness by integrating the parts of yourself (or your niche) that others avoid.

Individuation ensures your brand is authentic and sustainable, not a mask you wear to please the algorithm.

When you use Jung’s insights, you’re not just building a marketing plan. You’re building a brand with soul.

Find Your Brand Archetype

Jung identified universal archetypes (characters and patterns that show up in myths, legends, and everyday life). These are hardwired into our collective unconscious, which is why certain brand personalities feel instantly familiar.

Why Archetypes Work in Branding

Archetypes give your audience a sense of “I know who you are” before you’ve explained a thing. They help you:

Speak in a consistent tone.

Choose imagery that feels “on-brand.”

Craft offers that feel aligned with your promise.

Common Coaching Archetypes

While there are 12 classic Jungian archetypes, coaches often gravitate toward a few:

The Hero: Motivates clients to overcome challenges. (Fitness, mindset, performance coaching.)

The Magician: Transforms clients’ reality in a way that feels almost mystical. (Life transformation, healing, manifestation coaching.)

The Outlaw: Breaks industry rules to liberate clients from outdated systems. (Rebel business coaches, non-traditional leadership coaching.)

The Caregiver: Nurtures and supports clients through big life changes. (Grief coaching, holistic wellness.)

The Sage: Offers wisdom, frameworks, and intellectual clarity. (Executive coaching, thought leadership mentoring.)

Still don’t know yours?

Do this free quiz below and discover your archetype. It only takes 2 minutes. (Click on the image to find the free quiz.)

Once you know your archetype, your brand voice, visuals, and content direction become much clearer.

Make Your Client the Hero of the Story

One of Jung’s key insights is that myths and stories aren’t entertainment—they’re mirrors for our inner life. That’s why storytelling is the most powerful marketing tool you have.

This story is not about you! It’s about your client. Although you might be tempted to explain all your CV online, people can check all that information in a section of your LinkedIn profile. What you need to do is to make your clients the hero of the story.

your clients’ Hero’s journey

Think of your client’s journey like the Hero’s Journey. Very much like Bilbo (or Frodo and Sam), they go on an adventure that will change them forever. The hobbits who leave the Shire will return having grown internally.

Ordinary world: They’re stuck, frustrated, or searching.

Call to adventure: They discover the possibility of change.

The mentor appears: That’s you, the coach, guiding them.

Trials and transformation: Coaching sessions, challenges, breakthroughs.

Return home changed: They leave with tools, confidence, and results.

Why This Works

Too many coaches make themselves the hero: “I transformed my life, so you can too!”
Although your story can resonate with your audience and you can use it, focusing all your marketing on that will fall flat. Make your client the hero and position yourself as the Magician, Sage, or Heroic Ally who guides them.

Example

Instead of: “I’ll teach you how to grow your business,”
Say: “You’ve built something you’re proud of. Now, let’s take it from hidden gem to powerful brand your clients can’t stop talking about.”

Need help with this?

You can fetch the DP framework core system that I use with all my coach clients.
Embrace Your Brand Shadow

In Jungian psychology, the shadow is the part of ourselves we hide or deny. For brands, the shadow is often what you avoid saying because it feels risky. However, integrating your shadow makes your brand magnetic.

What’s a brand shadow?

A productivity coach who admits they once struggled with burnout.

A wellness coach who calls out toxic positivity in the self-help space.

A business coach who’s open about failing in their first venture.

By naming the truth others avoid, you:

Build trust.

Show you’re human.

Differentiate yourself in a sea of generic marketing.

Align with Individuation

Individuation is Jung’s term for becoming your most authentic self (integrating all parts of your identity). In branding, individuation means building a business that reflects your true values, not just market trends.

Signs Your Brand Isn’t Individuated

You feel drained by the “persona” you use online.

Your offers are based on what sells for others, not what excites you.

You dread showing up because it feels inauthentic.

How to Apply Individuation to Branding

Write down your non-negotiable values.

Check every offer and piece of content against them.

Let your brand evolve as you do—don’t get stuck in a static identity.

A brand in individuation feels natural to run because it’s an extension of who you are.

Speak to the Unconscious with Symbols and Color

Jung believed that symbols are the language of the unconscious (the hidden layer of the psyche where meaning is felt before it’s understood). That’s why specific images, shapes, and colors can stir something deep in us without a single word being spoken. When you choose symbols that align with your archetype, you bypass rational analysis and speak directly to the part of your client that craves change. This is what makes a brand feel instantly familiar, trustworthy, and resonant.

Color works in the same way. Blue doesn’t need a caption to whisper “trust” and “stability,” just as red doesn’t need explaining to evoke energy and passion. As a coach, your palette becomes part of your promise: a visual shorthand for the kind of transformation you offer. The key is consistency: When your colors and symbols show up across your website, social media, and client materials, they reinforce the emotional thread of your brand. Over time, your audience doesn’t just see your brand; they feel it, and that feeling is what makes them return.

Why Depth Wins in the Coaching Market

The coaching industry is more crowded than ever. Coaches who only market with “tips and tricks” get lost in the noise. Coaches who build brands using Jung’s ideas don’t create depth, and in doing so they create movements, attract loyal communities, and build businesses that last.

When you weave archetypes, storytelling, shadow work, individuation, and symbolic branding into your marketing, you move beyond selling services. You start selling identity, transformation, and belonging: the three things people invest in most.

Talent alone isn’t enough today. You can be a brilliant life coach, a skilled wellness mentor, or an experienced leadership advisor, but if your ideal clients can’t find you, connect with you, or even know you exist, your business will struggle to grow. That’s why you need to know essential digital marketing as a minimum. Yes, digital marketing is no longer optional anymore.

The coaches who thrive today are not just those who can deliver transformation. They know how to translate that transformation into a digital presence that’s impossible to ignore.

It’s no longer a question of “Should I invest in digital marketing?” but rather “How can I create a strategy that amplifies my voice, reaches the right people, and builds trust before they ever speak to me?”

This is where personal branding, SEO, and multi-channel engagement come in; not as “nice-to-have extras,” but as the essential foundation for long-term success.

Digital Marketing Is the New Coaching Baseline

Let’s touch the itchy spot first:

Coaches who ignore digital marketing risk becoming invisible even if their coaching skills are world-class.

Word-of-mouth referrals, networking events, and local reputation still matter, but they can’t be your only growth engines. They’re unpredictable and limited by geography and the size of your existing network.

Meanwhile, coaches who embrace a digital-first mindset (even those with less experience) are growing faster and charging more because they’ve mastered visibility. They’re using online platforms to showcase their expertise, build communities, and maintain a steady flow of potential clients.

The reason? Digital marketing allows you to:

Be present where your ideal clients already spend their time.

Control your message and position yourself with precision.

Build credibility before a single consultation is booked.

Create scalable systems for lead generation and relationship-building.

This isn’t about becoming a full-time marketer instead of a coach, though. It’s about aligning your marketing with your coaching philosophy so it feels natural and sustainable.

Your Website IS The Home Base of Your Coaching Business

Think of your website as your digital headquarters. Everything you do online, from social media posts to guest articles to podcasts, should point back here. It’s the one place you fully control, unlike rented space on platforms like LinkedIn or Instagram.

A strong coaching website does far more than list your services. It should reflect your personality, values, and approach so visitors can instantly feel what it might be like to work with you.

How to make it work for you:

Show your personal voice. Many coaching websites fall into the trap of generic “business-speak.” You’re not writing a corporate report! You’re speaking directly to humans. Use words, tone, and examples that mirror your coaching style. If you’re warm and encouraging in sessions, your copy should feel the same.

Lead with clarity. Within seconds of arriving, visitors should know who you help, what problems you solve, and what results you deliver. Your headline isn’t just decoration; it’s your chance to hook the exact person you want to serve.

Guide them with intention. A clear navigation menu and prominent calls-to-action (CTAs) help potential clients take the next step: whether that’s booking a discovery call, downloading a free resource, or subscribing to your newsletter.

Capture leads. Not everyone is ready to invest right away. Give them an easy way to stay in your world, such as an email sign-up tied to a valuable lead magnet.

For example, a career coach’s homepage opens with “Helping ambitious women in tech land their next leadership role without burning out.” Right away, the visitor knows exactly who she works with and what transformation she offers. Add in a free PDF called “The 7 Interview Mistakes Tech Leaders Make” as the lead magnet, and you have a natural pathway from casual visitor to warm lead.

SEO: HELP PEOPLE FIND YOU

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can seem like a world of mysterious algorithms, but at its core, it’s simply about helping the right people find you when they’re actively searching for help.

For coaches, SEO works best when it’s laser-focused on niche keywords. Competing for broad terms like “life coach” or “business coach” is a losing battle without enormous resources. Instead, target specific, intent-rich phrases your ideal client would actually type into Google.

Think:

“Mindset coach for female entrepreneurs in London”

“Wellness coach for remote workers”

“Executive coach for first-time CEOs”

When you know these phrases, you can:

Naturally weave them into your website copy and blog posts.

Write articles that answer specific client questions.

Optimize your meta descriptions and headings so search engines (and humans) know exactly what you do.

SEO isn’t an overnight game, but a long-term asset. A single well-optimized blog post can keep attracting new visitors for months or even years, without extra effort once it’s live.

Multi-Channel Social Engagement

Your website and SEO bring people in. Social media is how you go out into the world and meet your audience where they are.

Many people get overwhelmed, thinking they need to post everywhere, every day. The truth? You need to be strategic.

Pick one or two platforms where your audience is most active, and commit to showing up there consistently.

LinkedIn is ideal for professional audiences, executive coaching, career transitions, or any niche that overlaps with work life.

Instagram works well for lifestyle, wellness, and creative niches where visual storytelling matters.

YouTube or podcasts help build authority through deeper, more educational content, and they pair beautifully with SEO.

The goal isn’t just to “be active.” It’s about engaging: commenting thoughtfully on posts, joining conversations, and sharing insights that demonstrate your expertise. When your audience sees you as a consistent, valuable voice, they’ll remember you when they’re ready to invest.

Content Marketing TO Build Authority and Trust

If your website is the home base and social media is your networking space, content marketing is your stage. It’s where you demonstrate expertise, share your philosophy, and prove you can get results, all before someone works with you.

Strong content does three things:

Educates: providing your audience with quick wins they can implement immediately.

Inspires: sharing stories and mindset shifts that show what’s possible.

Connects: letting people see your values, your story, and even your quirks.

For example:

A leadership coach might share a carousel on LinkedIn: “3 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Accepting a Promotion.”

A wellness coach could post a 2-minute video on Instagram about “desk stretches that fight fatigue.”

Over time, your content library becomes proof of your expertise. New followers can read everything in one go, just like a Netflix series, which helps build trust quickly.

Email Marketing: Your Private Channel to Potential Clients

Social media is great for reach, but you’re always at the mercy of algorithms. Email marketing gives you a direct line to people who have already shown interest in your work.

When someone joins your list, usually by downloading a free resource or signing up for a challenge, they’ve taken a step toward working with you.

Use email to:

Share tips, insights, and resources.

Tell stories that show your coaching in action.

Invite readers to events, programs, or calls.

The beauty of email is intimacy. It’s where you can be a little more personal, a little more in-depth, and build a relationship that leads naturally to coaching conversations.

Your Digital Marketing Mindset

To make this sustainable, you need to think about marketing like this:

Marketing is not separate from your coaching. It’s part of the transformation you offer.

Basically…

When you write a blog post answering a client’s common question, you’re coaching.

When you post an insight that inspires someone to take action, you’re coaching.

Finding clients isn’t just about being good at what you do, but about making sure the right people know you exist, trust you, and see you as the person who can help them. In the coaching field, direct outreach and inbound leads can help you land your clients on LinkedIn. But what are these?

Direct outreach: You take the first step and approach potential clients.

Inbound leads: They find you and approach you first.

The most successful coaches don’t rely on one or the other: they blend both. But the balance, and the way you use them, matters more than most think.

Understanding Direct Outreach

Direct outreach is proactive. You’re not waiting for the phone to ring; you’re identifying your ideal clients and starting conversations with them.

On LinkedIn, this might mean:

Using advanced search filters to find people in your niche.

Sending personalized connection requests.

Following up with relevant, tailored messages.

The goal isn’t to pitch immediately but to start a conversation that leads to a natural invitation to work together.

The Right Way to Do Direct Outreach

Bad outreach is everywhere. You’ve probably received those generic “Hi, we help coaches like you 10x their business” messages within seconds of connecting. That’s boilerplate pitching, which is why many people equate outreach with spam.

Good outreach, on the other hand:

Is personalized: You’ve read their profile, noticed their work, and can reference something specific.

Offers value first: This could be a relevant resource, an introduction, or a thoughtful question.

Respects timing: You don’t drop a sales pitch in the first message; you nurture the conversation.

Pros of Direct Outreach

Fast feedback: You know quickly if someone’s interested.

Control: You choose who to approach.

Scalable: You can set daily or weekly outreach goals.

Cons of Direct Outreach

Time-intensive: Personalization takes effort.

Higher rejection rate: Many won’t respond.

Brand risk: If you’re too aggressive or spammy, you can hurt your reputation and even face LinkedIn restrictions.

Understanding Inbound Leads

Inbound leads are the opposite: you create content, resources, and visibility so that your ideal clients find you.

On LinkedIn, this usually means:

Posting valuable content consistently.

Sharing case studies, stories, and insights.

Hosting webinars or live events.

Creating lead magnets (guides, quizzes, templates).

Inbound is about thought leadership, showing up with expertise so people trust you before they ever send you a message.

Why Inbound Feels Different

When someone reaches out to you first, the dynamic changes:

They already know a bit about you.

They’re more likely to see you as an authority.

They tend to convert faster because they’ve pre-qualified themselves.

Think about it: if you’ve been posting weekly insights about stress management for executives, and an executive messages you saying, “I’ve been reading your posts for months . Can we talk?”, that’s a much warmer lead than a stranger you cold-messaged yesterday.

Pros of Inbound Leads

High trust factor: They already believe you can help.

Faster close rate: Less convincing needed.

Brand building: Every post adds to your reputation.

Cons of Inbound Leads

Slower build: It takes time to gain traction.

Less control: You can’t predict when leads will arrive.

Requires consistency: Sporadic posting won’t work.

Jackpot: Mix Both

Relying solely on inbound can leave you waiting months for leads. Relying solely on outbound can burn you out and damage your brand if done poorly. The sweet spot is combining them:

Use direct outreach to start conversations now.

Use inbound to build authority and attract higher-quality leads over time.

Think of it like planting seeds (inbound) while also knocking on doors (outbound). The seeds grow into a garden that feeds you long-term, while the door-knocking keeps dinner on the table today.

How to Blend the Two on LinkedIn

Define Your Ideal Client Clearly

Before doing anything, know exactly who you’re looking for: Industry, job title, challenges, goals, etc.

Create a LinkedIn Content Plan

Your inbound system could be something like this:

Post educational content 2–3 times a week.

Mix in personal stories to show relatability.

Share results and testimonials to build credibility.

Identify & Engage with Prospects

Use LinkedIn search filters to find people who match your client profile.

Engage with their posts genuinely: comment thoughtfully, not just “great post.”

Do this for a good period of time and learn more about them as they post.

Connect with a short, personalized note.

Follow Up with Value

Once connected, don’t pitch immediately. Send something useful:

A link to a relevant article you wrote.

A free guide or checklist.

An invitation to a free webinar.

Make sure you don’t contact too often or too sporadically. Also, make sure you create a connection/relationship first.

Move from Conversation to Call

When someone engages positively, invite them to a quick, no-pressure chat. The target is to create trust.

Track & Adjust

Keep track of:

How many people you reach out to weekly.

How many respond.

How many turn into calls and clients.

Don’t try to over-reach too much, as this might feel overwhelming. Direct outreach is time-consuming and takes a lot of effort.

When Outreach Hurts

Aggressive outbound tactics can damage your brand faster than they bring in clients. Some warning signs you’re crossing the line:

Sending mass, generic messages.

Pushing for a call without establishing relevance.

Following up excessively after silence.

Not only can this hurt your reputation, but it can also lead to LinkedIn penalties, reduced visibility, or even account restrictions.

The safer route? Keep outreach conversational, relevant, and genuinely helpful.

Coaching is a relationship business. You’re not selling a gadget, but asking someone to trust you with their goals, fears, and personal growth. This is a big task that calls for well-thought-out lead magnets and conversion tactics.

On LinkedIn, you might already be posting valuable tips, sharing inspiring stories, and engaging with other professionals—people like your posts, which might encourage them to comment or even connect. But likes and follows don’t pay the bills.

To turn attention into actual coaching clients, you need something more deliberate, a way to invite people into your world so they can experience what it’s like to work with you. That’s where lead magnets come in to help you.

Why Lead Magnets

A lead magnet is a free, valuable resource you give in exchange for someone’s contact details, usually their email address. The “magnet” part isn’t just about attracting people; it’s about pulling the right people closer.

For example, you can see one of my lead magnets below. In exchange for your email, you get to know your Jungian archetype for marketing and branding.

This also works for coaches because:

It solves a real, specific problem your ideal client is wrestling with right now.

It gives them a taste of your approach before they ever book a session.

It builds trust through generosity; they get value before spending a cent.

That said, most coaches either don’t have one or they’ve created something too generic to resonate. “Free tips for a better life” might feel safe, but it’s too vague to compel anyone to click.

The real magic is in niching your magnet down so it feels like it was designed for one person only, the exact person you most want to work with.

Why LinkedIn Is the Perfect Place to Use Them

Many coaches still view LinkedIn as a corporate résumé wall, but it has evolved into something much more powerful. It’s now a vibrant content platform where people come to learn, network, and find solutions.

On Instagram, people might be scrolling to relax or be entertained. On LinkedIn, they’re already in a problem‑solving mindset. That means they’re more likely to download a guide, attend a live session, or sign up for a quick training, especially if it’s connected to their professional or personal growth.

Better yet, LinkedIn gives you a unique advantage: you can reach out directly to new connections without being lumped in with spam accounts. As long as your message is relevant and human, people are open to hearing from you.

A thoughtful post that leads to a relevant freebie? That’s how a stranger becomes a warm lead in a matter of days.

What Works Best as a Lead Magnet

If you’re picturing a hundred‑page PDF or a lengthy video course, stop right there. The most effective lead magnets, especially on LinkedIn, are the ones that give a quick win.

If someone gets a result from you in minutes, they immediately see your value. And they’re far more likely to trust you with the bigger, deeper work.

A few examples that tend to work brilliantly for coaches:

Short guides or checklists: A career coach might offer “The 7 CV Mistakes That Cost You Interviews,” while a wellness coach could share “The 5‑Minute Stress Reset You Can Do at Your Desk.”

Mini trainings: Ten‑minute videos that solve one pressing problem, like “How to Ask for a Raise Without Feeling Awkward.”

Templates and scripts: Ready‑to‑use tools, like a “Discovery Call Conversation Script” or a “Weekly Meal Plan Template.”

Live sessions: Short, interactive workshops or Q&A calls on a hot topic.

Quizzes or assessments: Interactive tools like “Find Your Leadership Archetype” that give instant, personalised insights.

Notice the pattern? Each one is laser‑focused, quick to consume, and directly linked to a paid service you offer.

From Connection to Client: How the Funnel Works

A good lead magnet is just the first step. The real conversion happens when you combine it with a simple follow‑up system.

For example, you post a short LinkedIn article about how most professionals unknowingly sabotage their own job interviews. At the end, you say:

“I’ve put together a quick checklist of the most common interview mistakes and how to avoid them. You can grab it here.”

A reader clicks, fills in their email, and instantly receives the checklist. In that first email, you thank them, add a small bonus tip, and invite them to reply with their biggest interview challenge.

They reply. You respond with a useful pointer and mention you have a few free career clarity calls available this week.

Suddenly, you’re not a stranger on LinkedIn anymore. You’re a trusted advisor they’ve already spoken to. That’s how a lead magnet turns into a client; through conversation, not cold selling.

OVER BLOWN Fear

Some coaches avoid freebies altogether because they worry about attracting people who will never invest. And yes, there will always be those who download and disappear.

But the ones who never buy were never going to buy anyway. They cost you nothing. The ones who do buy? They’re often the people who first said “yes” to a freebie.

The key is alignment. Your lead magnet should solve a small piece of a bigger puzzle; the same puzzle you solve in your paid offer. That way, people who want the full transformation naturally see you as the next step.

Making It Friction‑Free

Even the best lead magnet will flop if you make it hard to access. This is where a bit of tech setup makes all the difference.

The essentials:

A simple landing page with a clear promise and an opt‑in form. Tools like Typeform or MailerLite make this easy.

Automated delivery ensures they receive their resource immediately, eliminating the need for manual emailing.

A built‑in link to your booking calendar (using Calendly, for example) in the follow‑up email so they can take the next step without hunting for it.

Think of it as smoothing the path: they should go from LinkedIn post to resource in two clicks, and from resource to booking in one more.

What to Avoid

A few traps will kill your lead magnet’s potential:

Being too broad: “Improve your life” is forgettable.

Making it too long: if it takes hours to consume, most won’t finish it.

Offering something unrelated to your actual coaching offer: it confuses your funnel.

Skipping the follow‑up: they won’t chase you.

Turning This into Action

If you’ve been relying on “post and pray” to find clients, start here instead:

Identify one specific, urgent problem your ideal client faces.

Create a short, high‑value resource that solves it.

Share it regularly on LinkedIn: in posts, articles, and direct messages to new connections.

Automate delivery and follow‑up so every new lead hears from you without delay.

Done consistently, this turns your LinkedIn activity into a steady stream of conversations with people who already see your value.

NEED HELP?

A lead magnet isn’t just a marketing trick. In coaching, it’s a gift; a way to serve before you sell, to demonstrate your expertise without asking for trust first. The coaches who master this don’t chase clients; they create a path for clients to find them.

Having an account on Instagram and posting occasionally isn’t a strategy. Coaches need Instagram content strategies to convert, but many just post on the go (which is a big mistake). If you want Instagram to bring you discovery, followers, and, most importantly, clients, you need a plan. And that plan can’t just be “go viral.”

The best coaches on Instagram aren’t trend chasers. They’re the ones showing up consistently, telling compelling stories, and building trust through authentic, valuable content.

Let’s break down exactly how you can use Instagram’s visual storytelling tools (Stories, Reels, and strong CTAs) to create trust, grow visibility, and turn followers into leads.

Why Instagram

Before diving into tactics, let’s answer the big question: why should a coach invest time in Instagram at all?

Because your audience is already there.

Instagram has over 2 billion monthly active users, and it’s a discovery engine. People go there to be inspired, learn something new, and connect with brands and people they trust.

For coaches, it’s the perfect platform to:

Showcase your personality and values

Demonstrate your expertise through quick tips and stories

Build relationships before someone ever books a call

Create visibility for your offers without feeling salesy

The magic is in how you show up, and that’s where content strategy comes in.

Consistency + Authenticity

You might think Instagram success means chasing trends and hitting viral moments. But the reality is more sustainable: consistency and authenticity. But why?

Consistency keeps you visible. The algorithm rewards creators who post regularly and engage with their audience.

Authenticity builds trust. Your followers can spot overly curated, inauthentic content a mile away.

The coaches who succeed here don’t try to be someone they’re not. They double down on their identity and how they help. (Bottom line: show as you are!)

Instagram’s Key Storytelling Tools

Stories: Real-Time Connection

Stories are the behind-the-scenes, low-pressure side of Instagram. They disappear after 24 hours (unless saved to Highlights), making them perfect for:

Daily check-ins

Client wins (with permission)

Sneak peeks of your process

Quick tips or motivational boosts

Polls, quizzes, and question stickers to engage your audience

Why they work

They humanize you. People want to see the person behind the expertise. When followers see you walking the talk (showing your morning routine, prepping for a coaching session, or sharing a book you’re reading), they feel connected.

Pro Tip: Use interactive features (polls, sliders, Q&A) at least once a week to boost engagement. Instagram pushes your Stories to more viewers when they interact with them.

Reels: The Visibility Engine

Reels are Instagram’s growth powerhouse. The algorithm pushes them to people who don’t follow you yet, making them ideal for attracting new audiences.

For coaches, great Reels content includes:

Short, actionable tips (“3 mindset shifts to stop procrastination”)

Myth-busting (“Why you don’t need 5am mornings to be productive”)

Story snippets (“How I went from burned-out to running my dream coaching business”)

Client transformations (with permission)

Inspirational messages with a clear takeaway

Best practices

Hook viewers in the first 3 seconds: ask a question or make a bold statement.

Keep them 7–15 seconds for maximum replay value.

Use captions: many people watch without sound.

Add relevant hashtags (more on that later).

Static Posts & Carousels: Depth and Expertise

While Stories and Reels are fast and engaging, static posts (especially carousels) let you go deeper:

Share mini-guides (“5 questions to ask yourself before hiring a coach”)

Break down a concept step-by-step

Provide a personal story with a lesson

Share a powerful quote with your commentary

Carousels encourage swiping, which increases engagement and time spent on your post—both signals the algorithm loves.

Crafting Content That Converts Followers into Clients

Know Your Content Pillars

Content pillars are the 3–5 main themes you consistently post about. For coaches, they might include:

Educational: Tips, frameworks, or tools your audience can use

Inspirational: Stories of transformation, quotes, or your journey

Engagement: Polls, questions, “this or that” to spark conversation

Promotional: Highlighting your offers, testimonials, or free resources

When you know your pillars, you avoid the “what do I post today?” panic and keep your content relevant to your audience.

Write CTAs That Move People

A great post without a call-to-action (CTA) is a missed opportunity. CTAs tell your audience what to do next.

Examples:

“Save this post so you can use it later.”

“Comment with your biggest challenge around [topic].”

“DM me the word ‘coach’ if you want details on my program.”

“Click the link in bio to book your free call.”

Mix soft CTAs (engagement-focused) with direct CTAs (sales-focused) to build relationships and guide action.

Use Strategic Hashtags

Hashtags increase discoverability.

Use a mix of large (#coaching, millions of posts), medium (#confidencecoach, hundreds of thousands), and niche (#mindsetcoachingforwomen, under 50k).

Rotate hashtags to avoid being flagged as spam.

Keep them relevant (Instagram can detect if you’re keyword stuffing).

Posting Rhythm

If you’re serious about converting on Instagram, you need a sustainable posting rhythm. A simple starting point could be:

Reels: 2–3 per week (visibility)

Stories: 4–6 days a week (connection)

Static Posts/Carousels: 1–2 per week (depth)

Adjust based on what your analytics show is working.

Engagement: The Secret Growth Lever

Posting is half the work. The other half? Engaging.

Reply to every comment on your posts.

Comment thoughtfully on posts from your target audience.

Respond to DMs promptly.

Engage with Stories from people you want to connect with.

Instagram rewards creators who engage with their audience, so show up as part of the conversation, not just a broadcaster.

Can Authenticity Hold You Back?

The mantra “authenticity over trends” is popular in coaching circles, and for good reason. But you need to be balanced!

Focusing on authenticity alone could actually limit your rapid growth potential.

If you avoid trends entirely because they feel “too salesy” or “not me,” you might be missing high-visibility opportunities. The key is to adapt trends to your style rather than rejecting them outright.

Example: A productivity coach might skip dancing videos but still use a trending audio to share quick tips. You keep your brand voice intact while riding the algorithm’s current. (Note: this depends on your coaching niche, so be careful how you balance the act!)

Tracking What Works

Don’t guess—measure. Use Instagram Insights to:

See which content types (Reels, Stories, carousels) get the most reach and engagement.

Identify your top-performing topics.

Check when your audience is most active.

Track link clicks to measure conversion potential.

Data tells you where to double down and where to adjust.

It’s a lot of work

True, it is! And you have to be constant or people will just ignore you (or worse: forget you completely). That’s why you need to choose a main platform and a secondary one for your online marketing strategy. If you try to be in too many places at the same time, it can burn you out in no time!

Before putting all your effort into Instagram, consider who you coach. If your clients are mostly within HR departments, you need to be on LinkedIn.

Need Help?

Instagram isn’t just a place to “be seen.” For coaches, it’s a place to be remembered, trusted, and hired.

If you need help with your marketing strategy or how to plan it, consider joining Branding and Marketing for Coaches or getting my branding and marketing DP framework.

If you’re fishing for clients on LinkedIn, you’ve noticed that the coaching marketplace is getting crowded. Spending time on your LinkedIn profile optimization isn’t a waste of time, but the smartest thing you can do. But, do you need to optimize only on LinkedIn? Not just there, but wherever you have a profile online.

Why?

Your profile is your digital handshake, your business card, and, often, your first coaching session all rolled into one.

And yet… most coaches treat their profile like an afterthought. They write a generic headline (“Life Coach”), upload a half-decent headshot, list some past jobs, and call it done.

The result? Potential clients scroll right past. Not because they don’t need a coach, but because nothing about the profile told them:

“This is the person who gets me, who understands my challenges, and who can help me change my life.”

Today, we’re going to fix that.

Why LinkedIn Profile Optimization Isn’t Just About Looking Good

Profile optimization is not about making yourself look like everyone else with a glossy photo and some keyword stuffing. It’s about creating a clear, authentic, and trust-building introduction to who you are and how you help.

For coaches, this matters more than for almost any other profession, because coaching is built on trust.

Your profile has one job: Help the right people find you, trust you, and take the next step toward working with you.

That means:

You need to show up in searches when someone types “career coach for women” or “confidence coach London.”

Your headline, imagery, and About section need to signal authority and empathy in seconds.

The story you tell must make your ideal client think, They’re talking about me.

Step Into Your Client’s Shoes

Before we start “optimizing,” you have to know what you’re optimizing for.

Imagine you’re your ideal client. You’re scrolling LinkedIn late at night because you’re stuck in a job you hate, or you’re feeling burned out as a new manager, or you’re trying to lose weight for the tenth time.

What would you search for?

What kind of photo would make you pause?

What words would make you think, Yes, this person gets me?

This exercise shifts the focus away from “what do I want to say about myself?” to “what does my client need to hear first?”.

Your Headline: Your First, and Often Only, Hook

Your headline is prime real estate. It shows up everywhere: in searches, comments, and connection requests.

Many coaches waste it on their job title. The problem? “Life Coach” is too vague. People don’t search for “life coach.” They search for solutions.

Instead of:

“Life Coach”

Try:

“Helping New Managers Lead With Confidence (Without Burning Out)”

See the difference? One is about you. The other is about them.

Photos That Build Trust Before You Say a Word

We’re wired to make snap judgments about faces. A high-quality, approachable headshot can instantly raise your credibility.

The Banner: Your Silent Sales Tool

That large rectangle behind your profile picture? It’s not decoration. It’s your billboard, or, in other words, what I call the real estate part of your LinkedIn profile.

Instead of leaving it blank, use it to:

Showcase your tagline and website.

Feature a photo of you in action: speaking, coaching, running a workshop.

Add a subtle call-to-action, like “Book Your Free Discovery Call.”

The About Section: Where You Turn Browsers into Believers

Too many coaches treat the About section like a mini résumé. However, clients don’t hire résumés. They hire people who understand them.

Think of your About section as a conversation over coffee.

The structure I recommend:

Hook: Start with the problem your client is facing. (“You’ve read the books and taken the courses, but you still feel stuck…”)

Connection: Share your “why” for coaching. (“I know how that feels — because I’ve been there.”)

Credibility: Show results you’ve achieved for others. (“Over the past 7 years, I’ve helped 200+ leaders build confidence and achieve promotions.”)

Invitation: Give them the next step. (“If you’re ready to lead with confidence, book a free call today.”)

When written this way, your About section becomes a story that positions you as the guide to their journey, not just another service provider.

Experience: show your value

Even if you’ve changed careers, your past experience can strengthen your coaching profile.

Instead of:

“Managed a retail team of 10.”

Say:

“Coached and developed a team of 10, resulting in a 30% increase in sales and three promotions.”

Same role. Different framing. One says “manager.” The other says “coach.”

Featured Content: Your Greatest Hits

Your featured section is where visitors go if they want to see proof of your expertise.
Curate it like your highlight reel:

Your most-read blog post

A client case study (with permission)

A podcast interview

Your YouTube video on a key coaching topic

A link to your free resource

Think of it as the “try before you buy” section of your profile.

Recommendations: Let Others Sell You

Testimonials build trust faster than anything you can say about yourself.

But here’s the key: specificity sells. Instead of “She’s a great coach,” aim for:

“Before working with Jane, I doubted my leadership skills. Six months later, I led my first major project and received a promotion.”

Ask happy clients and past colleagues for endorsements that highlight the transformation, not just the transaction.

KEYWORDS

Keywords help you get found. But overdo them, and your profile starts sounding like an SEO experiment instead of a real person.

The sweet spot:

Then, what happens with that profile? Potential clients sense something’s off. The profile feels more like a sales page than a person they can trust.

For coaches, YouTube can be more than just a platform to share advice. It can be the engine that drives business growth, client leads, and brand authority. But uploading great videos isn’t enough. YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world, and its algorithm isn’t just watching your content; it’s watching how people interact with it. This means that you need SEO on YouTube.

Thus, mastering SEO is non-negotiable. This doesn’t mean stuffing keywords into your content like a robot, but rather understanding how YouTube thinks and how your audience searches. SEO is what helps people find your content in the first place. Combine it with a deep understanding of YouTube analytics and the recommendation algorithm, and you’ve got a roadmap for turning one-off views into a thriving audience.

Why Coaches Should Care About SEO ON YouTube

YouTube is saturated with content, but not all of it is optimized. That’s your opportunity.

If your content isn’t showing up in search results or on the recommended feed, it may as well not exist. Coaches who embrace YouTube SEO don’t just wait for viewers; they earn them.

And it matters, because:

YouTube videos often rank in Google search results.

Viewers who discover your video through search have higher intent.

SEO helps compound your visibility over time—one video can bring traffic for years.

Imagine posting a video today that still drives client inquiries six months from now. That’s the power of good SEO.

The Building Blocks of YouTube SEO

Let’s go step-by-step through the SEO elements that matter most for discoverability and how you can apply them to your coaching content.

1. Keyword Research

Before you hit record, start with search intent.

Use Google’s Autocomplete to find what your audience is searching.

Think in terms of problems and aspirations: “how to set boundaries,” “morning routine for mindset,” “confidence tips for introverts.”

Choose long-tail keywords that are specific but have low competition. Example: Instead of “confidence coaching,” try “how to build confidence before a job interview.”

Tip: If you’re a life coach, use client language in your keyword phrases. What do they actually say when they describe their challenges?

2. Optimized Titles that Hook and Rank

Your title needs to do two things: grab attention and include keywords.

Front-load your main keyword. Example: “Confidence Tips for Coaches | 5 Ways to Show Up Authentically”

Keep it under 60 characters to avoid truncation.

Don’t clickbait, but do create curiosity. “The #1 Confidence Tip No One Talks About (That Actually Works)” is better than “Confidence Coaching 101.”

3. Descriptions That Work for the Algorithm and the Viewer

YouTube scans your video description for keywords, so give it something to work with.

In the first 2–3 lines, include your target keyword naturally.

Next, write a few short paragraphs explaining what the video covers, including any relevant resources, and link to your coaching offer or lead magnet.

Use timestamps if your video is longer. YouTube loves clear structure.

Bonus: Add related hashtags (like #confidencecoaching or #lifecoach) at the bottom of your description. These create clickable tags above the video title.

4. Tags: Less Important, But Still Useful

YouTube has downplayed the role of tags, but they still help with misspellings and related topics.

Use a mix of specific and broad tags: “confidence tips,” “life coach advice,” “how to be more assertive,” etc.

Include variations of your main keywords.

Understanding the Recommendation Algorithm

Not all YouTube traffic comes from search. In fact, much of it comes from the recommendation engine (those videos that autoplay next or appear on the homepage).

How do you get on that feed?

1. Click-Through Rate (CTR)

If no one clicks your video, YouTube stops showing it. Your thumbnail and title need to earn the click.

Use expressive facial expressions, bold text, and emotional cues in thumbnails.

Test different styles: contrast, colors, or curiosity-driven images.

2. Watch Time and Average View Duration

YouTube cares deeply about how long people watch your video.

Hook viewers in the first 10 seconds: Ask a question, state a bold truth, or show a teaser.

Avoid long intros. Get to the point, or you’ll lose them.

Use pattern interrupts (graphics, camera angle shifts, music changes) to keep attention.

Tip: Add a mid-video CTA like, “If this is helpful so far, give it a like. It helps the algorithm know this content matters.”

3. Session Time

It’s not just about your video; it’s about keeping users on YouTube.

Use end screens to suggest other videos.

Create playlists that encourage people to look for your content.

Encourage subscriptions in a natural way: “If you want more content like this, hit subscribe so you don’t miss the next one.”

YouTube Analytics

Once your videos are live, analytics become your secret weapon. Don’t post and ghost—analyze and adapt.

Coaches who thrive on YouTube don’t guess: they test, review, and refine. Every upload is a feedback loop.

Common YouTube SEO Mistakes Coaches Make (And How to Fix Them)

Generic titles like “Mindset Coaching #5”
→ Fix: No one’s searching for that. Make titles that solve a specific problem.

When SEO Becomes a Trap

The rise of YouTube SEO has led some coaches to treat the platform like a content farm. Every video is crafted around search trends, with robotic delivery and keyword-stuffed language. It gets clicks… but loses hearts.

“Overemphasis on SEO risks turning coaching channels into keyword farms, losing authenticity for the sake of algorithmic reach.”

Viewers want humans—coaches who connect and who care.

Here’s the balance:

The best-performing coaching videos aren’t always the most polished—they’re the most genuine. The ones that make people feel seen, heard, and hopeful.

To wrap up, here’s a simple system coaches can follow to grow their YouTube presence without losing their authenticity:

1. Search-Driven Topics

Start with what people are looking for, but make it personal.

2. Storytelling Structure

Use real stories and case studies. Frame the video like a coaching session.

You don’t need more hours in the day. You need to get more mileage out of the content you already create. That’s the magic of content repurposing, a strategy that turns one powerful idea (a webinar, a live session, a voice note) into a week or even a month’s worth of brand-building content.

Instead of letting your best moments vanish into Zoom archives or buried podcast episodes, repurposing lets you multiply your visibility without multiplying your workload. One live session can become a blog post, a series of Reels, a newsletter story, a carousel, a podcast, and a dozen social captions.

It’s not about copying and pasting. It’s about working smart, extracting the gold you already have, and letting it do the heavy lifting for you.

Content Repurposing Isn’t Lazy

Repurposing is not cheating. In fact, it’s what great communicators, educators, and even spiritual teachers have always done. They repeat the same message in different ways because repetition builds trust, reinforces learning, and keeps the mission alive.

As a coach, your voice is your brand. But you don’t need to keep reinventing the wheel every time you post.

You do need to show up with consistency, clarity, and energy.

And that’s exactly where content repurposing shines.

It turns one idea into a cascade of assets across platforms without draining your creative reserves.

Start With a Core Content Asset

Think of your content like a tree. The trunk is your core content: one long-form, high-value piece that captures your thinking and presence. This could be:

A recorded webinar

A 60-minute live coaching session

A podcast episode

A YouTube tutorial

A deep-dive blog post

From there, you branch out into leaves—bite-sized, contextualized, audience-friendly assets.

Example

A recorded live session becomes:

5 short Reels or TikToks

3 quote graphics

1 long-form blog post

1 carousel post for Instagram or LinkedIn

1 email with a personal takeaway

1 podcast episode (if you strip the audio)

4 tweet-style text posts

Suddenly, one live hour = 2 weeks of cross-platform visibility without creating anything new.

What Coaches Often Miss: You’re Sitting on a Goldmine

Most coaches are already creating brilliant content. The problem isn’t creation. It’s circulation.

If you’ve ever said:

“I don’t have time to post every day”
“I’m too busy with client work”
“I don’t know what to say this week”

…then content repurposing is your rescue strategy.

That workshop Q&A that sparked a debate? There’s a reel, a poll, a podcast, and a carousel in there.

However, you need a system to capture and reuse it, not just good intentions.

Delegation is Visibility’s Secret Weapon

Enter: your Virtual Assistant (VA), video editor, copywriter, or social media manager. You don’t need a team of 10. But you do need to stop being the bottleneck of your own brilliance.

Here’s what a repurposing workflow might look like with a VA:

You record a live Zoom session or a 15-minute voice note

You upload the raw file to a shared Google Drive folder

Your VA pulls the content, cuts video clips, finds quotes, writes a blog post, and schedules everything on social

You review final content in batches

You show up to engage with comments, DMs, and shares

That’s it.

And if you don’t have the budget for a VA yet? No problem.

You can still repurpose content like a pro using AI tools for a fraction of the price.

Tools like Descript let you edit video and audio like a doc, strip out quotes, or instantly generate captions. Platforms like OpusClip can cut short-form videos from long sessions with AI-powered highlights. Use ChatGPT to turn transcripts into blog posts or captions (and then edit the output so it has your voice and your take). And Canva templates can handle your visuals with ease.

The point is: you don’t have to do it alone, and you definitely don’t have to do it manually.

But What About Authenticity?

“If I repurpose too much, won’t I sound repetitive… robotic… fake?”

Fair question.

We’ve all seen accounts posting the same quote in ten formats, recycled endlessly until it loses all soul.

This is what I call zombie content: lifeless posts that technically check the content box, but feel hollow. Avoiding that fate is simple: don’t let automation replace presence.

Repurposing is not a substitute for your voice. It’s a support system that extends your presence across formats.

Think of it this way:

You’re the author.

Your content team (or VA) is the translator.

As long as you’re the source, and your stories, tone, and insights are at the heart of what’s shared, authenticity stays intact.

Tools That Make Repurposing Easier

If you’re not ready to hire help, automation can support you. A few starter tools:

OpusClip

Great for turning long-form video into short-form clips using AI. Smart cutting, easy captions.

Descript

Transcribe, edit, and export video and audio. Works like a doc.

Notion

Organize your content calendar and repurposing workflow. Track what came from what.

Canva

Turn templates into branded graphics. Design once, reuse forever.

Metricool

Schedule everything across platforms in one place.

Even solo coaches can look like they’ve got a team without losing their weekends.

Repurpose ≠ Repeat

Let’s be clear: repurposing is not duplication. It’s about shifting how you express an idea, based on the platform and context.

On YouTube, go deep

On Reels, tease an insight

On Instagram, show the visual

In your newsletter, reflect

On LinkedIn, teach

Same topic. Different angles. Fresh delivery. That’s how your audience stays engaged and your message gets remembered.

You’re Not “Too Busy to Market”

Coaches often wear too many hats: mentor, marketer, admin, cheerleader. Burnout isn’t a badge of honor. And ghosting your audience isn’t a growth strategy.

Content repurposing gives you a third option: strategic visibility with less effort. You don’t need to create more. What you need is to circulate better.
