It's a a sub-genre of downtempo and closely related to trip hop. For the past 6 months or so this genre has been my obsession after I discovered the work of Sixtoo (Speakerbruiser, Six Vicious, Vaughn Robert Squire .. what ever he is going by these days :D) a producer hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I find Sixtoo to be brilliant, inspiring and outrageously talented. So far I only have two albums by him: "Jackals and Vipers in Envy of Man" and "Chewing on Glass and other Miracle Cures", which I have to say is one of the best albums from start to finish that I have ever heard along with War Stories by Unkle. I hope that he releases more great albums in the near future.

It's been a while since I've updated (man, you guys, I have like 6 blogs now that I'm solely running it's effing crazy!) So here's what I've been listening to obsessively lately.

Sixtoo - Chewing on Glass and Other Miracle Cures
Villain Accelerate (as side project collaboration of Sixtoo and Stigg of the Dump) - Maid of Gold
Unkle - War Stories
Sofa Surfers - Constructions: Remixed and Dubbed
Blockhead - Downtown Science

Delicious.

Well, I wanted to give a quick update. Talk to you soon

I Miss the 90s

WARNING! Random babble ahead!

I've been feeling a little bit nostalgic lately. I got a brand new computer all fresh with no music and as I began to download I found myself particularly attracted to 90's tracks that I loved as a kid. DON'T LAUGH, but I've been rocking out hardcore to Christina Aguilera, Nsync and Backstreet Boys ... (ok you have permission to laugh now.) I also have been drawn in to 90s rock, r&b, rap, dance, other pop ... Everything is bringing back so many memories of when I was a kid and a young teen so carefree, feeling like I'd be young forever, living a perfect childhood. Time flies to quickly!

I've come to conclusion that the 70s was the best era for music, however the 90s is hands down my favorite.

Damn, I totally loved this song and forgot about it

Finally, Another Britney Post

Every music magazine I received this week featured Britney Spears. Hundreds of blogs are covering her as well alls I gotts say is ..

I'm tired of trying to dissect this beeyotch. She's a waste in more ways than once. Do we really need to know how/why/when/what/where? More importantly who still gives a foook? I'd be happy if I never had to risk seeing her period panties again!

The end.
.......................................

Side note: Hey, guys! I'm finally making an appearance. I'm still working two jobs so its been hard to make the time to write about music. I'm quitting one job next month so I will finally have the time again. I'm really looking forward to coming back :)

BRB, Transitions!

I swear I'm not neglecting this blog! I'm in the process of switching homes and switching careers. I'll be back next week and posting sporadically over the next couple of weeks until I'm all settled.

In the meantime if you have any suggestions about things you'd like to see me write about email me and keep me updated! I'll try my best to post requests while I'm getting myself situated.

Hope everyone is doing well and rockin out.

Bridgette

P.S. this is probably my favorite song right now ..

I can't stop singing it!

The Eight Sexiest Sirens of Indie Rock

I found this list compilation from OMG Lists! and have to say I found it refreshing and agreed with majority of the list. Every one knows Beyonce is hot, Rihanna is hot, Gwen, Jessica Simpson, ect. But, I think it is about time to acknowledge new pretty faces of the less mainstream scene.

8- Joanna Newsom

When most people think of musical instruments, they tend to envision things like guitars, drums and pianos. But not a lot of people will think of the harp. Pay some attention to the beautiful Joanna Newsom, however, and the harp will suddenly look a whole lot more enticing. The lovely Ms. Newsom owns a fragile sounding voice that still somehow manages to convey a sense of strength; she's ridiculously easy on the eyes as well.

7- Kori Gardner

The only thing that could potentially keep Kori Gardner, one half of the awesome Mates of State, of our list is the fact that she's happily married to her bandmate, drummer Jason Hammel. And while it's wrong to ogle another man's wife, especially considering how obviously in love they are-go see them live and you'll see what we mean-there's no denying that Kori still qualifies as for our list. She's not only hot but she also packs enough energy to bring the house down. Who the hell knew that the organ could be such a rocking instrument?

6- Karen O

We're not big fans of the helmet shaped haircut that Karen O normally wears on stage and her outfits, while funktastic, are have just a little too much personality for our tastes. But there's still no denying that the energetic leader of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs deserves a place on our list. While she tends to hide her face away, there are moments when her vibrant smile and attractive features come into view. But her true strength lies in her unique voice and boundless energy. We're willing to bet that dating Karen O is like riding a rollercoaster: you strap yourself in and go on the ride of your life.

5- Jenny Lewis

While we love her for her music, our infatuation with the lead singer of indie darlings Rilo Kiley began when in our adolescence, when we first saw her starring opposite Fred "Kevin Arnold" Savage in the awesomely bad movie "The Wizard." But rather than take the low road, as most child actors tend to do, Jenny Lewis is riding high on the success of her music. And while she's matured into a certified hottie, our inner 12-year olds will always think of her as the spunky and cute Haley.

4- Feist

If we had to describe the haunting beauty of Feist and her music with a single word, we would have a tough time choosing between 'sophisticated' and 'vulnerable.' So we'll just mash to the together and call her 'sophistinerable.' Or would 'vulneristicated' be better? Either way, Feist lands on our list of sexy sirens because she's, well, hot and she can sing. What else do we have to say?

3- Regina Spektor

Judging from the photos that we could find, Regina Spektor isn't very tall. We're guessing she stands no taller than 5 feet. We could be wrong and really, it doesn't matter, because her diminutive frame packs a voice strong enough to reach the highest rafters. Her quirky songs and quirkier demeanor make her shine and easily earns her a spot high up on our list.

2- Neko Case

Whether she's singing alone or as part of indie rock group, The New Pornographers, Neko Case is as red hot as her hair color would suggest. Armed with a powerful voice and a sophisticated charm, Neko Case is the kind of girl that your mother will love and that your friends will drool over.

1- Cat Power

The enigmatic Cat Power catapults to the top of our list thanks to a sultry voice, a beautiful face and an undeniable stage presence. There is no doubt that Chan "Cat Power" Marshall has both the voice and the beauty to easily win the top slot in our little countdown. Just watch her video for "Lived In Bars," and you'll have all the proof you need. Now, if she'd just say yes to our marriage proposal...

..........................................................................................

Who would YOU add to this list?

I would have to add

Regine Chassagne

Of Arcade Fire Regine is beautiful and talented. I love the fact that she plays the accordion and the xylophone because, like Joanna, it just seems so random. Those are not instruments one typically goes into band class aspiring to play but they work well for band and I give her props for thinking outside of the musical box. I also appreciate her unique vocal style. She sound comes off as so fragile, yet so strong when need be.

Marie Digby

The Queen of Covers! Marie has a knack for taking modern pop hits and turning them into seemingly meaningful acoustic ballads as well as creating her own originals. This gal has definitely got the look with her Japanese-Irish gene pool: soft, delicate facial features, beautiful eyes and hair I would kill for!

Best of 2007

Everybody's doing it, right? I want to thank you all for stopping by and reading my blog. I apologize for the lack of updates over the past couple of weeks, but with the holidays and all I've been quite busy and haven't had the chance to write all that I had planned to. Things should go back to normal and the updates will become more frequent starting next week.

Hope you are safe and merry,

Bridgette

Get the F*ck Out of My Show!

A bit of controversy erupted last week when Tori Amos told two front row fans to get the fuck out of her San Diego show! Before security guards escorted the two girls out she scolded them by saying that sitting in the front row is a privilege and those seats are hers to reserve for the true fans. (video posted below)
According to MollyKnight.com (12/12) the girls were being loud, antsy and talkative during Tori's set and were obviously distracting her. She seemingly bit her tongue through a couple of songs, before finally blowing up.

Reading the comments at other blogs I have seen a mixed reaction over how people feel about the incident; some people have called Tori a pretentious jerk for booting the girls out, others (and apparently the crowd at the show) have supported her saying they appreciate that Tori recognized the problem and got rid of it.

So, the question I ask is: Is it ever OK for artists to kick fans out of their shows?

In my opinion, I just can't see any validation in the argument that if fans pay for their seats they have the right to spend their time at the show anyway they please. It is a privilege to see an artist and you are on their time when you are there, so there should be certain guidelines to follow at a concert which includes common courtesy and etiquette. Excessive talking, running about, goofing off and causing mischief is not only disruptive to the artist, but the fans around who are there to enjoy the music.

I personally cannot stand it when people treat concerts as a night at the bar. They drink heavily, do drugs openly, then drunkenly stumble up and down the isles and then puke all over the floors where everyone around them has to endure the smell for the next 2 hours. Then they pick fights, assault strangers and end up passing out before the main act comes on stage. It's ridiculous and a waste of a seat. I'm sure there is always some true fan who didn't get to make, but would love to be there for the experience and not the booze. I think it's awesome when artists recognize this disruptive behavior and remove it. I applaud Tori and other artists who throw out the bad eggs. I wish this would happen more frequently.

Miss the shenanigans? Here's the video for you.

Music Innovation: Gibson Robot Guitar

Last week on December 7, 2007 guitar manufacturing company, Gibson released the much-anticipated Gibson Robot Guitar. The Robot is a Les Paul-esque luxury guitar ran by lightweight microprocessors and motorized tuner knobs to automatically tune itself in accordance to the owner’s preference. The guitar features a push-pull LED Master Control Knob that is the dictator and mastermind of the guitar. When the Master Control Knob is set to “tune” you would simply strum the guitar once which signals the tune-control-bridge to adjust the pitch of the strings, the bridge then drives the Powerhead motorized knobs to adjust themselves accordingly to achieve the perfect tune for the guitar. The Master Control Knob features six pre-set tuning options such as Standard Open E, DADGAD, Drop D, Open G, Flat E and Double Drop D. Wait! There’s more! Not only does the Robot auto-tune itself, it will also assist with string changes and intonation. Robot will literally “walk” the player through the process with its LED lights. There really isn’t much brainwork or hassle required on the player’s end, as the Robot slogan goes “All you have to do is play!”

The First Edition Robot Guitar is currently being sold for an ERP of $2,499 in limited quantity at 400 retail locations.

For more information visit Official Gibson Robot Guitar Site

Additional Pictures

Gibson Robot Guitar Official Video

Is Led Zeppelin the Greatest Band Ever?

Minnesota Public Radio proposed this question along with the following piece:

"With all the media coverage of the Led Zeppelin reunion there has been several mentions of them being the greatest band ever. Mojo magazine referred to them that way, Rolling Stone put them on the cover and called it "the most sort after reunion in rock'n'roll history." The BBC reported that people from over 70 countries were at the show earlier today and had interviews with many of them saying in many different accents..."they are the greatest band ever!"
While they were 'away' a few have made a grab for the title, most commonly perhaps the Stones, who have a claim simply through longevity, but who wins?Let's answer this once and for all, which side are you on and explain why;
The A-Side of the argument is ..."Led Zep are the best band ever"
B-Side...if not them then who?"

My Answer:

Do I think Led Zeppelin is the greatest band in the World or ever? Honestly, no. I don't think it is possible for any band to be the named greatest band in the world factually. It's all a matter of opinion and perhaps maybe statistics*. I think people should be honest and realistic with these "crownings" and first admit and/or realize that not every band will appeal to everyone in the universe in the same way. Some one will want to say the Bealtes are better, or Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, U2, Queen, Sabbath .. and rightfully so as these are all great bands. All of them are important, influential and talented in their own unique way and will continue to be so most likely until the end of time.

Do I think that Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest bands in the world or ever? Sure! They're on the list above along with many other acts. They've sold over 200 million albums worldwide. They've released many classic songs that the world will never escape such as "Kashmir", "Black Dog" or "Stairway to Heaven". They've also influenced many great musicians of today and the past.
I am very excited that Led Zeppelin has decided to reunite and perform live. I wish I could see them in concert and would love it. Unfortunately, I could never afford them!

In closing, yes Led Zep is good, but I kind of dislike these "Greatest Band Ever!" or "Bestest Song/Album of All Time!" lists or crownings. I usually find them annoying, unfair, and sometimes cliche.

... And with that said, Massive Attack is totally the bestest band ever!

*Statistics judge quantity, not quality. I can't bring myself to fully rely on stats.

Ten Awesome Cover Songs

Songs that are almost better than the originals ..

10) Howie Beno and Cruella Deville - She Bop (Cyndi Lauper)
Goth-ish rocked out version of the Pop original.

9) Jose Gonzalez - Teardrop (Massive Attack)

8) Iron and Wine - Such Great Heights (The Postal Service)
While the original was very sweet, Sam Beam Beam makes this song downright dreamy and romantic.

7) Brown Derbies - Karma Police (Radiohead)
The Brown Derbies covered this song Acapella. Not too many Radiohead fans care for it, I think it's awesome.

6) Genitorturers - I Touch Myself (Divinyls)
See previous review

5) Nickle Creek - Toxic (Britney Spears)
This is a fricken bluegrass band covering a fallen pop princess. It's impressive how they incorporated every instrument in the band to match spot on to the digitally-composed original.

4) Calexico - Alone Again Or (Love)

3) Revolting Cocks - Do Ya Think I'm Sexy (Rod Stewart)
Industrial-Dance. A considerable strip club anthem.

2) Gus - Don't Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult)
Unknown artist, Gus created this acoustic cover and it screams "MAKE HOT, SWEET LOVE WHILE LISTENING TO ME!" This track is from the Scream soundtrack, and that's pretty much all the info I have on Gus and the song. I really believe this cover is 10x better than the original; infact I love it so much that it is actually tied for number one with ...

1) Stereophonics - Ooh La La (Goldfrapp)
This "Ooh La La" pretty much sums up musically why I love the Stereophonics. Within the first 30 seconds it is evident that these guys genuinely rock. I don't prefer this cover over the original or vice-versa, but WHOA, this version is monstrous. You go boys!

Amazon MP3 Store: Potential Apple iTunes Destroyer?

Only 3 months after its launch, Amazon.com’s new MP3 Store is already the 3rd largest digital retailer in the U.S., right under iTunes (#1) and Emusic (#2). This rank is an incredible achievement, but may leave some wondering what all the buzz about and how Amazon has achieved such quick success. In short that means the music is controlled and restricts how people can install, listen to, view and duplicate their music files. "Kate Moss" is a bit creepy and morbid sounding, yet it's slightly humorous. A open letter of sorts addressing Kate and her image in the media.

2) Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
Doesn't need much commentary as I don't know a person who isn't familiar with this song. Samples music from Clint Eastwood's film "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly".

3) I'm From Barcelona - Britney
The greatest thing Britney Spears has done in the past few years was inspire this song. I'm from Barcelona rocks out about the media's obsession with Crazy Ass BS. A bit tongue-in-cheek about her "awesomeness". Or at least I hope so.

4) Amy Anne - Johnny Depp
Such a cute song, albeit a bit psycho-obsessive. I like the "lounge" sound of it.

5) The Postal Service - Clark Gable
I'm not sure how I feel about the Postal Service. I give them credit for techno-emo and making it work. "Clark Gable" sounds similar to their hit "Such Great Heights".

6) Matthew Sweet - Winona
A nice ballad. Presumably named after Winona Ryder

7) Tori Amos - Not David Bowie
N/C

8) Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes
N/C

9) David Bowie - Andy Warhol
N/C

10) Teenagers - Starlett Johansson
I really like this song. So tenderly indie. Obviously named after Scarlett.

Do you guys know of any others?

Music News: Kevin Dubrow, Casey Calvert, Bjork, John Lennon and more!

Quiet Riot Singer Dies

Drummer, Frankie Banall confirmed his website Sunday that his Quiet Riot band mate, singer Kevin Dubrow, 52, died of unknown reasons. I mean, seriously when recording this song what message was Underworld looking to convey? Did they want us to procure anti-depressants or prophylactics? Eh, same difference right? Some say “Cowgirl” is about kinky, lustful, sadistic-masochist sex. I, on the other hand, am almost fully convinced that “Cowgirl” is a story of heartache. Karl Hyde sings lyrics of a guy who has been dumped by his woman. He can’t stop thinking about her, dreaming about her, feeling the hurt of his love, yet he’s simply invisible to her.

Sounds depressingly mushygushyblech, right? Nah, despite the meaning this song is upbeat and demands to be danced to. “Cowgirl” starts with a dismal, trance-like “getty-up” intro and progresses a techno-dance track. Karl Hyde’s vocals are digitally altered to a sexy, deep, raspy, growl. Also his obscure lyrical styling is still slightly present in “Cowgirl” however; the gist of this song is easier to comprehend than most others he’s crooned.

Ten Guilty Pleasure Songs

Songs I will never let others catch me enjoying ..

10) Korn "Twisted Transistor"
Ask a Korn fan, any true Korn fan and they will tell you that this song is so not metal. It's incredibly NOOB, a watery poop nugget from Korn's past material, sell out in the extreme. I still think it's the coolest song they've ever done.

9) Lil Kim "How Many Licks"
She’s dirty, she’s horny, she’s slutty, shes in control. I love it!

8) Gwen Stefani "What You Waiting For?"
The decline of my beloved Gwen, yet I find this song perfectly acceptable, and only this song. Please Gwen, go back to your bitchin pre-2002 No Doubt ways.

7) My Chemical Romance "Demolition Lovers"
No one knows I once listened to emo. Like 6 years ago, OK?!

6) Hollywood Undead "Turn Off the Lights"
Dumbest excuse for a band/rap group ever. So why do I have their song downloaded to my computer?!

5) Jennifer Lopez "Get Right"
Jennifer sucks so bad. She's so obnoxious and squealy. However, I can ride the elliptical like no ones business when this song is on.

4) Kanye West "Stronger"
I don’t like Kanye. I don’t like rappers sampling Daft Punk. 2+2=7

3) Kriss Kross "Jump"
This was so cool when I was 5. Secretly it’s still cool 17 years later.

2) Shania Twain "You're Still the One"
Mushy, gushy country love. How romantic.

1) Britney Spears "Gimme More"
It’s Britney Bitch! Eff off, Britney. Out of all the singers in the world why are you the one who is vocalizing my favorite pop song?

Hope those who celebrated had a Happy Thanksgiving!

TOOL Concert Review (11-19-07)

“Wow.” I thought as I arrived to see TOOL last night (November 19, 2007) at the Tulsa Convention Center. The traffic and parking wasn’t atrocious but police officers were lined up at the door: We had to be frisked before going in. Thoroughly frisked. Typically only attending small venue shows, I had never been frisked before. But that was understandable and fine. The Dimebag tragedy was one too many.
I took my seat and shortly after 8, TransAm (a band I had never heard of before) graced the stage. I’m not going to outright say those guys sucked, but they were unimpressive. Their sound was loud and obnoxious synth pop; the vocals were yelled and annoyingly digitalized. However, it could just be that their type of music is the kind that does not work well live. They may sound good on record, and since I’m into some synth-pop I'd be willing to give them another chance. TransAm played about 5 songs and left behind a nonchalant crowd.

It seemed as if an eternity went by during the intermission as the crew changed over to TOOL's set. I don't know how long wait realistically was, I'm guessing around 30 minutes. Finally at around 9pm the lights darkened and we all went crazy jumping from our seats and onto our feet. From stage left TOOL emerged. Justin Chancellor (bassist) came out waving to the crowd followed by Danny Carey (drummer), Maynard James Keenan (vocalist), then Adam Jones (guitarist). The band immediately started up “Jambi” which was visually the coolest set they did. The stage was mostly orange as fire screens played behind the band. Due to this effect absolutely nothing was visible but band's black shadows. It looked really cool, especially when Maynard began doing his “back-bend” dance.

The show was overall astounding both musically and visually. I was amazed by how perfectly the band played their instruments, especially Justin when rolling around on stage drunk as a skunk (Maynard announced that it was Justin's birthday). When it came time for his bass solos and intros he really came through and couldn’t have been more spot on. There were absolutely no flaws, quite an admirable task in my eyes. I was also impressed by Danny’s estimated 5-minute drum solo during “Lateralus” (at least I think it was "Lateralus", it was hard to tell since a lot of the extended versions went on about 15 minutes and morphed into other songs). My only complaint is that Maynard's mic was turned down so low that I could hardly hear him or understand anything he was saying. At any rate I got the jist of it and made due by singing along to most of the songs.
In my opinion the best songs that were performed were “Stinkfist”, “Schism”, “Flood” and “Lateralus”. I don’t know a lot of the new songs as I’m more of an old school fan. However I knew ahead of time what the setlist would be so I didn't anticipate any favorites from Opiate, Undertow or Aenima. I did appreciate what I heard from 100,000 Days and may now consider picking up that album now.
The showed concluded with a group hug, a bow to the audience, and Justin in a huge afro wig. The fans were thanked and guitar picks, water bottles and drum heads were distributed amongst the first rows. TOOL seemed to really care about giving stuff away at this show and because of that I was so jealous of the people up front!. Anyway, I left the show pumped up and thoroughly satisfied. TOOL was everything I had expected they would be and totally worth the $65 ticket, which I had no doubt about about.

(Picture directly linked from Source)

Rewriting Record Contracts: The 360-Deal

Since 2001 record sales have staggered in decline at an estimated 25%. Record labels invest a large amount of money into acts, and for the past few years it has not being paying off. What once was a deal of artists agreeing to hand over about 85% of album shares, but pocketing profit from tours, merchandising and publishing has been morphed into what is called the “360-Deal” or the “Multi-Rights Deal”. What this means is that not only do record labels get about 70-85% of album sales, they will also receive a cut of tour sales, merchandising, and publishing.
The 360 Deal allows labels to capitalize on artists as a brand and push more paths of revenue, thus giving the label more incentive to push the success of an act and market them in every way possible( this is due to the growing "mogul" trend amongst most current artists). The label will now own the act in everything they do and pocket a rough estimate of 30-50% of net earnings.

Well what exactly does that mean? Here’s a break down of a typical 360-deal:

Album Sales: The artist will get somewhere between 15-30% which is an estimate of $1-$3 per album sold. The larger percentage goes into the label’s pockets and covers production expenses.

Publishing: Artists get about a dime for writing their own songs and music, more if the song is featured in film or television. The labels now get a cut of that.

Touring: After all standard “touring” expenses are covered (travel, equipment, set costs, staff) the label will now get 10% of what’s left over

Merchandising: We’re no longer just talking T-shirts here. We’re talking endorsement deals, clothing lines, fragrances, energy drinks.. whatever the artist puts it’s name on the record label takes 10% of.

So what’s the verdict of the 360-deal? Is it healthy for new artists or is it screwing them over royally?

At first thought one may think the artists are getting screwed in the 360. It’s not terribly difficult to gain recognition as a musician these days with the phenomenon of Internet marketing and music distribution. An act can simply upload a video on Youtube or add their songs to Myspace and create a nice-sized fanbase without the help of a label.

On second thought, digging in deeper to the specifics of 360-deal the advantages are kind of handsome. The label now has more incentive to work harder for an act because they are now a major investment. In the 360 acts are groomed more carefully in hopes to promise longevity and success in their careers, music and otherwise. They are marketed in more ways than ever, and marketed harder; in order to push sales and generate profit. To cover the inevitable lack of initial finance acts will also receive a larger advance and up to 30% of album royalties (double the standard percentage).

Whichever side you decide to take 360 is spreading throughout the music industry like wild fire. Robbie Williams as a 360 contract, as does Madonna, the Pussycat Dolls, Cartel and Paramore. Labels are even on the lookout over Internet blogs in search for the “Next Big Band Brand” scouring through emo, indie, pop-punk and jam acts. The reason being that these types of bands collect large fan bases quickly and do well on tours and in merchandising, which means more cha-ching for the labels. So be on the lookout if you’re e-promoting your band you just may be 360-ied

TOOL Tonight!

The time has come. People either love or hate this album because it’s gloomy, musically experimental and nearly lyric-less (only one song has vocals on it and it is those of Tyler Durden). However this soundtrack is stellar; it's well-produced and complimented Fight Club the film perfectly.

2) Gorillaz Gorillaz
Gorillaz’s not-so humble beginnings. Gorllaz is a blend of musical styles including trip/hip hop, punk, reggae, latin, electronica, rock …. and surprisingly it all works!.

3) Mezzanine Massive Attack
Musical Masterpiece. Mezzanine is the album that brought trip hop to the mainstream masses, and is considerably one of the most innovative works of our time.

4) Mer de Nomes A Perfect Circle
The MdN era is the most talented and creative APC has ever been, and perhaps ever will be. Each song is exceptional and imaginative; it’s like listening to an adventurous, somewhat trippy, medieval fairytale. When I listen to this album I feel like I am dreaming.

5) 1992-2002 Underworld
This album is a best of compilation of 1992-2002 from the insanely talented electronic-dance group, Underworld. All of the fan-favorites (my favorites anyway) and popular tracks are convienantly featured here on one album.

6) Surrender The Chemical Brothers
Perfect and diverse from beginning to end. CB at their best.

7) A Hundred Days Off Underworld
For A Hundred Days Off Underworld experimented with a softer, more laid back sound. This album was almost a 180 from any of Underworld’s previous work, but certainly was not disappointing. I find this album very comforting.

8) Spacemonkeyz vs Gorillaz: Laika Come Home Gorillaz
Gorillaz's debut album remixed into a nearly-unrecognizable dub-reggae-ska compilation. The outcome is mellow, groove-y and genuinely dub. Theperfectsoundtracktosmokeadoobieto.

9) Lovesick Celebrity
Dark, moody, emotional and vulnerable. The lyrics are heartfelt and the music is well-crafted. An awesome effort by alternative rock band, Celebrity.

10) Aenima Tool
It’s TOOL, man. C’mon.

This list has been added as a new feature to the right column of my blog underneath the songs of the week playlist. The playlist will now include songs from most of these albums. Take a listen, and I hope you enjoy!

Chris Rock Criticizes The Music Industry

And I agree!

Chris says:
"Music kind of sucks. Nobody's into being a musician. Everybody's getting their mogul on. You've been so infiltrated by this corporate mentality that all the time you'd spend getting great songs together, you're busy doing nine other things that have nothing to do with art. You know how shitty Stevie Wonder's songs would have been if he had to run a fuckin' clothing company and a cologne line? … Rap sucks, for the most part. Not all rap, but as an art form it's just not at its best moment. Sammy The Bull would have made a shitty album. And I don't really have a desire to hear [billionaire] Warren Buffett's album - or the new CD by Paul Allen. That's what everybody's aspiring to be."

Which brings us to my rant: Why don't people care about the music these days? Why is music simply viewed as just another platform to rake in cash? I'm tired of seeing these supposed musicians slapping their name on any and everything out of greed. Clothing lines, perfumes, cellphones, bottled water, energy drinks, make up, hair color, resturaunts, credit cards, tv shows, movies, the list goes on! The music ends up being just as cheap as all of the other rubbish they're dishing out.

Is anyone capable of just being a musciain anymore for the sake of the art and not the possibility of mucho money?

No Doubt - New (SotD#13)

The lyrics perfectly explain a lot of how I feel right now. A woman USING a man as a cure for her lust, and forcing him to put her sexual needs first; demanding that he do nothing less than fall down on his knees to worship her. When Gen puurs that she touches herself she merely throwing the bloke a bone as if to say “Good boy.” Yes, Mistress Gen! I completely agree with your concept.

Click the banner below to listen to and download "Touch Myself" by Genitorturers at Amazon.com

(Picture: Genitorturers vocalist Gen courtesy of Myspace)
