A few people are beating the system using a simple trick. When they are thirsty or need a parking ticket they slip a peso coin into a vending machine. The machine obliges because the size of a peso coin is the same as a one dirham coin. That works out as 13 sodas for the equivalent of one dirham..

A number of residents have discovered that a Philippine peso is as good as a dirham whether it is to buy a soft drink or a parking ticket.

"This is nothing new. It is an open secret," said Maria Juan, a resident.

A peso is equivalent to about 7 fils and a dirham is about 13 pesos.

One of the reasons attributed for pesos working in vending machines is that their weight and size is more or less the same as a dirham.

Despite taking a seemingly disinterested stance for a long time, Etisalat is to be congratulated for finally acknowledging the wishes of their customers and the fact that these web sites offer harmless fun without threatening the security or culture of the UAE.

When I saw this for the first time I did'nt know how to react. At first I thought she was singing a parody finally and realizing she was seriously performing a crap. She embarassed herself on a National TV and surely now she's gone international.

Leyte Landslide

SAINT BERNARD, Leyte, Philippines -- In a matter of seconds, the homes and families of the central Philippine village of Guinsaugon were wiped out, buried under a mountain of soil and rock.

Now survivors must come to grips with both a painful past and an uncertain future.

Around 2,000 people lived in Guinsaugon, near the town of Saint Bernard in the central island of Leyte, before a landslide triggered by two weeks of heavy rain wiped the village from the map on Friday.

More than 200 of Guinsaugon's children were in the elementary school when the landslide hit and were buried along with the rest of the village. Now, only a handful of very small children can be seen among the survivors.

Series of unfortunate events...
The tragedy happened first in October 1991, when flashfloods wiped out around 4,000 residents of numerous barangay in Ormoc, Leyte. Twelve years later in 2003 the tragedy is back, with a with landslides killing more than 200 people in Southern Leyte, the same province where this devastating mega-landslide happened (2006) 15 years later after the first tragedy.

Ingredients for Disaster...
First, the volcanic rocks or “pyroclastic materials” on the mountainous slopes were not “consolidated,” meaning, they were not hard enough.
Second, as a result of weathering, the rocks formed a thick soil cover.
Third, La Niña came, softening the soil cover, which had already been rendered unstable by the fault line and the previous rainfall.
Fourth (my point of view) Lack of Environmental Awareness and Responsibility on both people and the Government.

Combine it all and the rest is History!

At least 74 people were trampled to death early Saturday in a stampede outside a stadium where thousands of people had gathered to watch a popular TV game show, the Philippine Red Cross said. About 500 people were injured and hospitalized.

About 30,000 people were waiting to get inside the stadium for the program "Wowowee," said Vicente Eusebio, the mayor of Pasig, the Manila suburb where the stampede occurred.

The raffle tickets can be obtained at the gate so everyone was in a hurry. There was pushing and people in front of the gate were crushed. Gordon blamed poor organization of the event for the tragedy.

A charitible act in pretext of profit?

People heed out for the call trying their luck to win the big raffle (doblado, sa ULTRA at homeviewers ay may nag-aantay na malalaking premyo) as promised by the show and hoping to hit it bigtime.

Blame it on whom?
Sadyang sumasalamin sa ganitong mga sitwasyon ang kawalan ng pag-asa ng mga Pinoy na umahon sa kahirapan at umaasa na lamang sa guhit ng kapalaran at nagbabaka-sakali.

It was not the responsibility of the MMDA, Police or any enforcers, the whole thing was an ABS-CBN's sickening event. The blood of these poor people are on your hands. Apologies are not enough, even shouldering the funeral expenses of those who died but responsibilty and liability is everything.

Thousands of "genderless" expatriates are working in the UAE, according to a labour official compiling statistics on the 2005 labour market.

Around 14,000 expatriate workers in the UAE have no known gender, said Dr Khalid Al Khazraji, labour undersecretary at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

"They are registered under 'it'," he said.

Konica Minolta Holdings said Thursday it will pull out of its money-losing camera business and will sell part of a plant, development knowledge and other assets for digital cameras to Sony.

Instead, the company will focus on technologies that don't cater directly to consumers, such as optics, copiers, medical equipment and device parts used for displays.

Wave 2: Time up for camera film? Nikon turns to digital

TOKYO -- Nikon, the iconic Japanese camera maker, has put another nail in the coffin of traditional photography with plans to stop selling most of its film models in favor of hot-selling digital cameras.
Nikon said it will end production of all but two of its eight single-lens reflex (SLR) analogue models and axe all of its non-digital compacts, signalling the end of its more than 50 year history of selling film cameras.

Sales will end when stocks run out - news that could trigger a rush by camera buffs to snap up the remaining ones. Experts believe the days of conventional film cameras are now numbered.

Better grab and hold on to your old conventional SLR cameras for it will be a treasure in the future and it's extinction is imminent..

She was sexy and smooth. Her curves was perfect for the hands no matter how big your plan is. Touching her makes you nervous, but it awakens the monster inside you that has been sleeping for a while. The moment I touched her flashes of ideas came into my mind like never before. I was confused what to do first and I was afraid to blew my first shot. So there I was holding her firmly, looking through her eyes, adjusting my grip, focusing to the beauty of nature. I squeeze her curves, holding her tightly, afraid that she might fall. I found my target and slowly pressed my pointy finger, she made a noise and adjusted the position. I pressed again, this time she was quiet not moving a bit. I sensed she is ready and with no second thoughts I pressed her fully. She made a sensual sound that can make someone not to stop. But I have to, I have to see the result. I don't want it to be a dry one. I want it to be full of life, as if it has been sprinkled by drizzling rain. I want her to be happy, ecstatic and she was.

It's a new Canon EOS 350D Kit w/1GB CF Card ( promo for Dubai deferred Shopping Festival). For now, lemme' fiddle with my new toy...But I guess I have a lot of reading, experiment & self study on photography. Thinking of joining a club though to ease things up.

UAE mourns..

Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has died.

He died at such a young age of 62.

Surely he will be missed by people who knew him and greatly loved him.

Dubai, Workers at a Jebel Ali labour camp have given up eating meat amid claims one of their colleagues was a cannibal who snacked on a body kept in a freezer.

Chinese men are sticking to a strict vegetarian diet because they say they’re worried they could end up dining on one of their colleagues in the camp’s canteen.

Rumors began Thursday night after a fight broke out between two groups.

Police were called to the scene, and wild stories soon began to spread that officers had discovered the half-eaten body of a Filipino man in the freezer of one of the men involved in the fight.

Police confirmed they were called out to the fight, but laughed off suggestions they’d found a body, half-eaten or otherwise. But labourers at the camp remain convinced that the man is a cannibal, and might not have been acting alone.

How on earth these people are so gullible to rumors. Maybe the hard labor conditions or the racial division among laborers stirs-up their fragile minds in creating and believing these rumors.

The true cannibals are those who don’t play by the rules and those who exploit others for their own sake. Unfair trade and labor practices, corrupt bureaucracy and government officials are to name a few.

Relatively speaking though these are not cannibals they were in the same league. Buwaya (crocodile), Linta (leech) and the most prominent of them all is the Tuko (chameleon) famous for its extra grip and camouflage abilities.

So what would you prefer Chinese or Filipino or simply Sweet & Sour or Adobo?

Localized ika-nga ang location nila kahit saan. Siguradong talo si Big Brother. Ingat lang sa mga katulad nila.

Siguradong maraming Pinoy ang nabubuhay na parang PBB. Halimbawa: yung mga nakatira sa boarding house na may striktong landlady na kung saan lahat ng gawin mo'y nakikita't pinakikialaman, yung mga nakikitira ka sa kamag-anak na bawat alis mo't uwi ay inoorasan at binubusisi ang 'yong mga lakad at pinariringan ka ng "ehem" na saksakan ng dami ng kahulugan, yung mga nagbe-bedspace or sharing na lang ng kwarto sa ibang taong di mo naman kamag-anak na kung saan ay limitado ang kilos mo't baka maibida sa ibang tao ang iyong bawat galaw. Iyan ay ilan lamang sa mga halimbawa...siguradong may mga iba pang sitwasyong maihahalintulad, marami sa aming mga OFW ang nakakaranas ng buhay ala PBB na nagtitiis sa masikip na company accomodation (kasama ang mga ibang lahi), sa labour camp, sa makipot na studio flat, sa inuupahang silid na puno ng kamang double-deck para lang may matuluyan. Ikaw Kuya at Ate naranasan mo na ba 'to?

There's no denying the Philippines the overall title this time.
Pounding the opposition on various fronts, Team Philippines yesterday clinched its first ever overall championship of the Southeast Asian Games with a Day 8 deluge of 23 golds, pulling away from the opposition and rendering today's closing events with no bearing.

So Unlikely for a Premiere
Thailand's Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will seek informal talks with Southeast Asian nation leaders over alleged biased officiating in the SEA Games. He questions some of the decisions in favor of the host country, which led to the defeat of Thai taekwondo competitors, including Olympic bronze medallist Yaowapa Burapolchai.

"We may need to talk to straighten out the fact that it would not be good for things to continue as they are," he said yesterday, without elaborating, or referring to any particular sporting events or decisions by referees.

"Watching a number of the events has made me question how things have turned out. But I don't know what to say. The SEA Games will no longer be popular or commonly accepted if it continues in this way," he said, alluding to the fact that decisions in some events have favored local athletes.

"It is hard to win at the Games since the hosts are cheating," Jaruk Areerajakaran, secretary general of Thailand's Olympic Committee told reporters, conceding that the Thai team would not be able to win its targeted 110 to 118 gold medals.

Political Stigma?
It doesn't mean that if our President is being accused of cheating her way to Presidency is that the Pinoy athletes are cheating. Our athletes are just regaining our dignity by gaining medals despite of our leaders political disgrace and by showing that even though we have a rotting political system we are not bunch of losers not to mentioned we have the so called "homecourt advantage" and how can a host nation rigged results in huge proportions? A batch of new 100-peso bills that mispelled President Gloria's surname from Arroyo to Arrovo is the poke of fun among Filipinos specially in the opposition, literally translated "a robo" means robbery, ripoff, burglary and theft that some of her detractors says it befits her.

After watching National Geographic Specials "Super flu" my concerns about this H5N1 virus hitting the Emirates is imminent. If this virus goes global it will be a chaos in Biblical scale wiping out not thousands but millions of lives or even half the world population.

Chances are?
Considering the chances of Emirates in having birds with this virus is not farfetched. In my observation though I'm not an expert on birds, aside from the Emirates' rapid development it has also created nature amenities such as parks, sanctuaries and protected wildlife sites to balanced development and nature. I remember watching a documentary about the wildlife in Arabia, on one of the series they featured the effects of changing the landscape or greening the sands to the migratory patterns of birds. I'm not against building such parks and sanctuaries I'm an advocate in preserving nature (been an active mountaineer in college). These sprawling man-made oases creates distractions from those high-flyers and lures migratory birds to have their pit-stop in these areas before going elsewhere or considering it their new habitat.

Relieve?
Upon reading the issue "Bird flu virus is not able to survive heat" on Gulf News, I was relieve but after a while it puts me to further analyze whets goin' on by comparing the local and international news. Now it keeps me at the edge of my seat mmmm..there's a big difference. Naaah, I finally realized I'm reading a Senseless Daily better check it on the net or watch CNN and BBC. The virus can't survive heat? Hey! it's winter...I think this press release is kinda late..

Ghost in Arabia..
This story is an actual event happened somewhere along the mangrove coastline of UAE by a friend of mine. Here how it goes, it was a cold winter night under the spell of the crescent moon that lits the mangrove shore. A group of people are scouring the sandy and watery ground to catch those elusive crabs when someone from the group suggests that they'll wait and rest inside their car after several hours out in the mangrove bushes and instead with the group still hunting for crabs and clams in the middle of the night. It was low tide and the time was past midnight, they can barely heard the group that gone far because of the shallow coastline all they can hear are the sounds of crickets and insects around them, they we're sitting inside the car for a while when suddenly out of the dimly lighted shrubs appears what to be a person from their group who's maybe bored and tired of catching those crabs. As the silhouette of a man came closer and clearer just right in front of the car they saw an unimaginable image they won't forget in their entire life. It was a figure of man dressed in condura without a head floating in the air. It seems that the time stood still as they were shocked and speechless. And with the blinked of an eye it disappeared in the cloak of darkness. So for those who likes crabbing and halaan picking at night BEWARE!!!, surely this is a kind of an scary experience more than a bite from the crabs claw. Awwwooooo!!!!
